We are now boarding United flight 385 to Stockholm at gate 54. Would passengers seated in rows one through 14 and passengers with young children, please approach the gate. I repeat, we are now boarding United 385 to Stockholm. Passengers seated in rows one through 14 and passengers with young children, please approach the gate." 'There's no way escaping it' Nick thought and felt a sting of unease hit him. He figured that after all this time he'd spent flying over the years, he'd be able to board without feeling the urge to throw up. 'I guess somethings never change' and then he got up from the lounge chair he was sitting in, getting ready to board. Nick looked around him - the lounge he was sitting in was, except for his band-mate Brian and their new "assisting manager", completely empty - the flight to Stockholm wouldn't even be half full and so far, no fans in sight. Boarding this flight shouldn't prove to be too difficult. When Nick rose from the chair, Brian who sat next to him also gathered his stuff and joined him. "Wassup Nick, feeling a bit nervous?" Brian asked, sensing Nick's discomfort and put his arm around Nick's shoulder giving him a friendly hug. "Nah, I'm fine." he answered. "Just feeling a little tired. It's been a long day and it ain't over yet." Nick said, glancing over towards the clock. It read 23.15, the flight from Miami to Stockholm would take more than eleven hours - for Nick that's another eleven hours of no sleep. 'Great, hopefully the in-flight entertaintment will be something interesting' Nick thought. "OK guys, you wanna board?" Matt, their new assisting manager, asked them - well it was more like a statement rather than a question. Matt, or Mattias Young, was of Swedish origin and two years older than Nick. He had recently joined the staff of Jive Records and was assigned to the Backstreet Boys to relieve some of the work load off of Kevin, who had requested more time to spend with his new wife. Matt was treated as any member of the group and did whatever they did, he had gotten especially close with Brian and Nick, resulting in that they often spent time together. "Yeah, let's go" they both answered in unison. Once onboard the plane, they noticed that they were practically alone in the first class area of the plane, giving them even more room than their already spacious seats offered. As always Nick and Brian sat next to eachother, while Matt sat in the seat in front of them, working on his computer. "So, what do you wanna do when we get to Stockholm?" Brian asked Nick while he made himself comfortable in his chair. He was dead exhausted, not even really listening to what Nick had to say. "I dunno, I was thinking, we'd let Matt handle it, he being from Sweden and all..." he answered, letting his mind drift away to the other times they've been to Sweden. 'Even though we've been there quite often, I've never really gotten the chance to see much of what it had to offer' Nick thought. Almost all of their time was spent at Cheiron, recording new songs. 'This time it won't be much different than the other visits, just that now me, Brian and Matt get to spend a couple of days extra in Sweden until the rest of the group arrives. I guess I really should talk to Matt and tell him that I...' Nick was interrupted by the voice of the pilot. "Good evening ladies and gentlemen. Welcome onboard United flight 385 to Stockholm. My name's David Henderson and I'll be your pilot during this flight. You'll be flying in a Boeing 747-300 and it has been in service since 1997. We're expecting some heavy turbulence over the Atlantic ocean, so please, for your own safety, while seated - make sure you wear your seatbelt at all times. ..." and so he continued. When the captain had finished his welcome speech, the screens aboard the flight started to flicker and the "safety onboard" film began. Seeing this and hearing the roar of the engines building up power made Nick feel even more distressed and almost went into a cardiac arrest when Brian, who had fell asleep during the instruction film, dropped his head on Nick's shoulder almost causing Nick's heart to stop. After restoring a normal heart beat, Nick looked around him - the cabin lights was dimmed, Brian fast asleep and Matt was sitting by the window looking out at the airport. There was no sign of any cabin crew, 'they've probably all returned to their seats, waiting for the plane to get airborne.' 'Great' Nick thought. 'I've been aboard for no more than 15 minutes and I'm already getting bored.' Then he noticed the screen installed in the back of the seat in front of him. "Perhaps there's something fun to watch" he mumbled to himself and pressed the power button next to the screen. The screen flickered and he was greeted by a simple message on the screen; "Due to safety concerns, during take-off and landing no video feeds are available, please try again later.". Nick sighed heavily, tilted his own and Brian's seats back, ignoring the safety procedures when doing so, and wrapped a blanket around him and Brian. When satisfied, Nick took out his portable cd and began listening. After been trying to get some sleep for over an hour, Nick felt a pressure had built up and he needed to go to the toilet. 'I need to go to the bathroom'. He sighed and removed his part of the blanket, slowly began to ease his way out of the chair and in the process, making sure that Brian remained in a comfortable position. After a couple of minutes Nick had achieved a successfull release and he was on his way to the bathroom, supporting himself using the back of the seats as he went since the turbulence was getting really noticeable. Nick's heart was beating faster and faster, the dim lights in the cabin and the turbulence wasn't in any way helping against his fear of flying, panick was approaching. When Nick finally reached the toilets, the turbulence had gotten almost violent in its attempts to make him fall, throwing him from side to side in the tight area where the toilets were and he debated whether to return to his seat or not. But since the pilot hadn't lit the fasten seatbelt signs and he really needed to go, he decided to continue. He practically jumped in through the door, slamming in shut behind him. Once inside, the bright light and the possibility to actually get some stability by pressing his arms against the interior made Nick calm down a bit. After a few moments he started to unzip his pants, reaching in to his boxers and took out his member which now actually stood at semi-attention. Nick started caressing his cock and gave it a few strokes. Then he looked down at his cock, the sight made him remember, he sighed and said to himself 'I better talk to Matt and tell him that I ...' Once again Nick was interrupted by the inter-com. "The captain has lit the fasten seatbelt signs, therefor I must ask that everyone returns to their seats and remain there until the signs are turned off, thank you." The voice of the flight attendant stopped. 'Fuck', Nick hastily finished his business and stormed out of the toilet, still putting his pants back on, and rushed back to where they sat. When he got there he noticed that Brian was still asleep, 'Well, I guess I could speak with Matt' and immidiately he began to feel his heart drop and he got unsure of himself. 'Fuck, I know Matt, I shouldn't be nervous, it's not as if he's going to laugh or make fun of me... at least, I don't think he will...' Nick got more nervous and even more embarressed just thinking about it. He went over to Matt and sat down next to him, making sure that his seatbelt was tightly fastened. Matt, who had dozed away, was quite similar to Nick, both physically and mentally but there were two major differences - Matt had brown hair, cut the way Nick had it before he changed to short, and, if Nick's great passion was video games, then Matt's was automobiles. He owned several cars, including a BMW M5 and a Corvette. Since he had learned to drive in Sweden, he could also drive a car with a manual transmission and he could shift gears without you even noticing, something Nick was incredibly impressed by. He was awakened by Nick gently pushing his side. "Yeah, what is it?" he mumbled and turned over to face the window and then fell asleep again. "Matt, Matt! I need to talk to you" Nick half-whispered while pushing Matt to wake up. "Come on" Nick whined. Finally Matt gave up and sat up, tilting his chair up with him and sighed. Looking at Nick he noticed the look on his face, and he was instantly awake, asking him, "Yeah, alright, I'm awake. What's wrong?" with a concerned voice. Nick was already starting to turn red, "Well, there's something I've been meaning to tell you, or more ask you" Nick said, getting even more embaressed, "I, I was kinda thinking," he studdered "you know if you could, would...". Not finishing his sentence, he began on another, avoiding any eye contact with Matt. "There's, I... If you..." Nick then leaned over towards Matt and whispered in his ear. "What the fuck! Are you kidding me!?" Matt exclaimed and started to laugh, "Shit! That's all? You looked like you needed help getting your dick out of your zipper or somethin'!" Matt continued. "So, have I gotten it straight - you want me to teach you how to drive a car with a manual gearbox?". "Yeah..." Nick replied, "if it's OK with you...?" "Sure, but why now? And what about the face?" Matt asked him. Nick hesitated for awhile and then answered, "There aren't so many cars with manual gearbox in Florida and now that AJ ain't around to make fun of me, or any reporters for that matter, I thought it'd be a good time to practice... Also, I've tried a manual once when we were in Germany a couple of years ago and it didn't end up quite well... It was actually really embarressing. Anyway, since then I've always wanted to learn how to do it, but everytime I think about it, the 'Hamburg-incident' pops up and kinda ruins it..." Nick's voice trailed off when he thought about the time he and Brian had borrowed a A-klasse from a Mercedes-dealership in Hamburg. Even though they didn't get far it was as if Godzilla had passed through the area. However, the manager had a daughter who's birthday was the very same day. The girl also happened to be a big fan of the Backstreet Boys... The manager was more than willing to forget about the destruction if they were to stop by and wish her a happy birthday. Nick still today thanks his lucky star for this. He never wants to repeat Hamburg all over again. "OK, how about if we do it the day after tomorrow, I'll try to get us a manual 'til then, 'K?" Matt asked Nick. "Sure, but didn't you rent a stick?" Nick questioned. "Hell no! I got us a BMW 540i, complete with V8 and Steptronic - but I don't think a Steptronic's what you had in mind, is it?" "I guess not, but if I don't get the hang of it, then there's always Steptronic!" Nick said and smiled. "I better get to my seat and try to get some sleep. Sorry I woke you." and then he got up. "No problem dude, g'night." Nick returned to his seat, tilting it back and wrapped the blanket he shared with Brian around him, leaning his head on Brian's chest. Lying there, he listened to Brian's heart beating - thinking about the time Brian had had open heart surgery and how scared he had been. The risk of never being with him again... Nick never told him how he had felt during the operation and the long hours of waiting in post-op, never leaving his side. After several minutes of lying there listening, Nick drifted away to sleep. ******** To be continued Feedback: writer_nike@myplace.com ********
