Then the light faded into many places on the ground, as though they had been sucked in. On the ground lay thirty or so sunstones. "What Faerie trickery is this?" Ares snarled at Lalaith, who shrugged, wondering how the Valar had made the sunstones appear. "It's not a Faerie trick," said a voice from behing the Valar, causing the five gods to turn around. They saw two young men standing there, both clad in the typical leather armour of the Faerie peoples. The dark haired one spoke again. "It is not a Faerie trick." "Yeah," the blonde haired man agreed. "And at least now we don't have to go to the sunstone recharging centre at the top of the city. Thank you for your help." The Valar looked at each other, questioning looks written on their faces. Eris decided to just roast the two insolent humans and shot two bolts of lighting at them. The two men immediately reached into pouches on their belts and drew out a sunstone each. They raised the sunstones and the lighting streaked into them, causing the sunstones to glow with power. The glowing stopped, but the sunstones were still brighter than they were before. Suddenly, Lalaith understood. She cleared her throat, the Valar turning around to face her again. "Leave now," she commanded. "You can't stop us as long as we have our sunstones." "Mark my word, we will kill you," Ares threatened before all the five Valar disappeared in flashes of light. "Ever the coward," Lalaith said. "Ares always runs whenever he's not sure if he can win a fight." "But how did the sunstones do that?" AJ asked, picking up a large red sunstone from the ground. "Oh, we use sunstones for power sources," Lalaith explained, bending down to pick up more sunstones to hand them back to JC and Lance. "The sunstones store energy and that energy can be drawn from them later. It helps us keep magical items charged at all times without having a mage drain out every drop of power from his body. The sunstone also get their power from the sun, light, fire, and lightning. That's why they absorbed the power charges thrown at us." She finished picking up the last sunstone from the ground and handed the now fully charged sunstones back to JC and Lance, who placed the small jewels into their pouches. The five friends then turned get into the basket cages used to carry people to the higher levels of the city. They reached Lalaith and Brian's house and began to eat their dinner, putting the previous encounter out of their minds. "So why were you shouting in the cave?" Kevin asked Justin. The two were sitting near the fire to keep warm. Two days had passed since they had been rescued from the giants, and only now was Kevin talking and asking about it. They had spent the first day trying to repair the partially destroyed academy, which was no problem with Estel's and Stile's magic and Hercules' strength. They had finished repairing the academy and while Chris and Howie had decided so stay there, Justin and Kevin had to follow their teachers. So Justin and Kevin had followed the four elves into the forest where Kevin was now trained by both Alegifu and Gil, while Justin was trained by both Estel and Stile. The elves were now out in the forest, looking for some fruits to eat, as well as some meat. Kevin sat in front of the fire, fletching an arrow, waiting for Justin to reply. Justin looked deeply into the fire, blue eyes sparkling, and tried to remember what had happened, since it was a non-stop rush ever since Kevin and Gil had appeared to rescue them. "I remember shouting to be careful and to go away because it was a trap of sorts," Justin said. "But why in Quenya?" Kevin asked. "I saw Gil and knew he was a Faerie, so I shouted in Quenya," Justin said simply. He was still staring at the fire. "How did you know he was a Faerie?" Kevin pressed, suddenly curious. "My, you're the kender today," Justin remarked, never taking his eyes off the fire. "I saw the way he walked." "Huh?" Kevin said, confused. "How can someone walking tip you off on what race they are?" Justin finally turned away from the fire to look at Kevin, his eyes rolling at Kevin's ignorance. "You were taught by an elf. You should be more observant. All they Faerie walk toe first." "What do you mean?" Kevin asked, not understanding. He was tired and hungry from two days of hard work and training, and his brain was not functioning well. "You know how humans walk, with their heels touching the ground first, then the toes?" Justin asked patiently. Kevin nodded and Justin continued. "Well, the Faerie walk toe first, then the heels. When they run, they only use their toes, and the way their legs are stretched when they run increases their speed." Kevin nodded to show he understood. Or at least that was what Justin thought. When he looked at Kevin, he realised that Kevin had nodded of to sleep. Justin smirked and began to once again stare at the fire. Justin felt a hand pat his shoulder. He suddenly came out of his trance-like state and turned to see who had tapped him. He found himself looking into a familiar set of blue eyes. He smiled and pecked the man's thin pink lips. Estel smiled and sat next to him in front of the fire. The two sat in front of the fire, their arms around each other. In the night sky, the moon and stars shone brightly, the nightingales sang their beautiful songs and the crickets chirped, creating a romantic environment. Justin leaned towards Estel, kissing him on the lips again. His tongue flicked in and out of Estel's slightly open mouth, causing the latter to moan with pleasure. Justin reached out and began to pull Estel's leather armour over his head. He lifted the shirt over Estel's waist and decided instead to unbuckle Estel's belt. He reached the buckle and began to undo it slowly. He placed his hands into Estel's pants, and Estel gave a small jerk. "Justin, stop," Estel said, breaking the kiss. Justin ignored him and continued to move his hands lower into Estel's pants, playing with Estel's soft pubic hair. Estel groaned and tried to back away. "Justin, stop," Estel said more fimrly. He gave Justin a small push away from him. Justin removed his hands and backed off from Estel, tears in his eyes. "What's wrong?" Justin said, his heart hurting. "The mood is right, we're both in love. What's wrong with this?" "I-I can't do this," Estel stuttered, looking down at the ground. "We're not...we're just not ready for this." "What do you mean 'we're not ready', Estel?" Justin asked angrily. Estel could not bring himself to look at Justin, and he looked at the ground, mumbling something. He arranged his clothes and disappeared into the trees, into the night. Justin sat down on the log again, tears filling his eyes. He cried for a long time, before falling asleep. The cheerful morning sun failed to make Estel smile, even though sunrise was his favourite time of the day. Estel sat at the top of a tree he had climbed in the night. He did not sleep at all the night before but he was not tired. He stared at the birds flying in the pinkish sky, looking so carefree and cheerful. The elf wondered how he would explain to Justin why he had reacted the way he did the night before. He finally decided to tell Justin the truth and hoped that Justin would understand. The sun had finally risen, it's golden rays catching Estel's golden brown hair, causing it to glow brightly. Estel took in the warmth of the morning sun and calmed himself, forgetting for the moment about everything else except how beautiful Eru's creation was. He smiled and began to sing. Gil tapped Justin's shoulder, waking the latter. Justin looked at Gil and remembered what had happened last night, which he assumed was some sort of quarrel, even though no one had shouted. His eyes began to tear, and he hugged Gil, taking comfort from his friend. Finally he pulled away from Gil. "What's wrong with Estel?" Justin asked Gil, hoping to get some answers. "What happened last night?" Gil asked. Justin told him about Estel and him nearly having sex the night before, and how Estel had suddenly became frightened and disappeared into the night. Gil listened patiently, his clear blue eyes peering at Justin as though seeing into his soul. When Justin finally finished his story, Gil nodded understandingly. "You see Justin," Gil said after a moment of thought. "The Faerie do not believe in sex before marriage, and Estel was practicing self-control in turning you away. He just could not break his moral convictions just for you." "So what does that mean?" Justin asked tearfully. "That he doesn't love me?" "No," Gil said soothingly. "It just means that he's willing to wait for you, and that even though he loves you, he still remains true to his morals, and if you can't accept them, he would have to leave you because he loves Eru more than he loves you. You understand that, don't you?" "Yeah," Justin said softly. "I should have thought of that before, especially since I was in Caeranos for a few weeks. I don't know what came over me." "Nothing came over you," Gil said. "You were just being human. And human's are different from the Faerie, so there's bound to be some problems in your relationship, but if you can overcome those problems, your relationship will be even stronger than it first was." Justin thought for a moment, his sobs decreasing. Finally he looked at Gil. "Thank you, Gil. Thank you for being there." "What are friends for?" Gil said smiling. "And what are brothers for, while we're at it. Hmm...Estel really owes me a lot for this. Or maybe I should just become an advisor on love." Justin and Gil laughed at the joke. The sun's rays were suddenly bright to Justin once again, his heart lifting up towards the beauty. The two elves stared at the sun which had risen not too long ago. They marveled at the beauty and magnificence of the morning, forgetting for a moment the human they had taken in. He slept soundly, tired out from the day before. Finally he stirred and woke up. He was about to ask them if there was anything to eat, but discovered a clay bowl with some food inside. He quickly ate the soft Faerie bread with small pieces of fruit embedded inside. There was also another small bowl filled with smashed blueberries, which Joey spread onto the bread with a golden butter knife next to the bowl. After eating four slices of bread, he picked an apple out of a wicker basket next to where he had found the bread and began to munch on the juicy fruit. It was surprisingly cool, as though it had been kept in a fridge. Joey stacked the empty bowls onto each other and buried the apple core in the ground. He walked towards the two elves and heard someone singing beautifully. As he neared, he realised that neither of the elves were singing. In fact, both seemed oblivious of any noise, the way they were staring with wonder at the environment around them. "Do you hear the singing?" Joey asked, bringing both elves out of their reverie. They listened for a monent, their pointed ears increasing their hearing tenfold that of Joey's. Larel smiled and began to hum along to the song. "I remember this song," Larel said, stopping his humming. "My mother used to sing it every morning when the sun rose while she was preparing breakfast for us." "The voice sounds familiar, don't you think?" Nirnaeth said, listening more intently. "Isn't that Estel?" Larel tilted his head to hear the singing better. His eyes opened wide and he grinned. "Let's surprise him!" Joey pointed back at the campsite. "Err...shouldn't we clear that?" "We'll do it later," Larel said. "He might stop singing and then we won't be able to find him. I haven't seen him in a while." The three made their way through the trees, following the sound of Estel's voice. Finally, they reached the tree where Estel was in. It was easily found, especially since the birds had also joined in with Estel's singing. Larel and Nirnaeth grinned mischieviously. "Three...two...one," Nirnaeth whispered. When she reached zero, Larel and Nirnaeth let loose a bloodcurdling shriek that shook the trees, ending the song immediately. All the birds flew away and Estel was so shocked that he gave a small yelp before falling twenty feet to the soft, mossy base of the tree. He got up and dusted himself off, glaring angrily at his two siblings and Joey, who were laughing their heads off. "Estel, are you okay?" came a voice from a short distance away. A few seconds later, five more figures appeared through the trees. "Gil!" Larel and Nirnaeth shouted at the same time. Gil stared at them and laughed, rushing over to them and hugging them both tightly. He stepped back from them and was pushed aside by Stile, who also hugged his siblings. He also stepped back and was in turn pushed away by Alegifu, who also hugged her brother and sister like as though she had not seen them for a few months. Joey stood in the shadows a little way off, letting Larel and Nirnaeth laugh and talk with their family. He was a little shocked when a curly-haired blonde with blue eyes rushed at him and hugged him tightly. "Joey!" he shouted, tackling the surprised Joey to the ground. "Justin?" Joey said, surprised. He smiled and hugged his band mate tightly. "I missed you guys!" "Hey Joey," Kevin said as soon as Joey got up. Joey smiled at Kevin and they smiled at each other. Kevin peered through the trees as though looking for someone. He turned to Joey. "Where's Nick? You two left together, didn't you?" "Err...that's sort of a long story," Joey said unsurely, wondering if he should tell Kevin about how Nick had been acting. "I'll tell you later." "He's fine, isn't he?" Kevin asked. Joey nodded slowly. Kevin smiled and the three friends began to recount their adventures, Joey listening to the other two intently, cleverly evading questions of what had happened to him. The company packed up their two campsites and began to travel through the forest to somewhere only the elves knew. Shareela looked at Hera as the goddess explained about the war among the gods. "Aphrodite and I both chose to remain 'neutral' in the war, but Aphrodite is going to take part in it without anyone knowing it. She will try to enlist the help of your people, but since you treated her the way I told you to treat her, she will only appear to your followers. I want you to tell them to agree to help Aphrodite, pretending that they don't know a thing of what's been happening." "Why, my queen?" Shareela asked. "Because I want to humiliate her," Hera said. "I want her to think that she has control of the situation and then at the end of the battle, I want to reveal her as the 'mastermind' who cheated by declaring neutrality but attacked anyway. That way, I will not only get her meddlesome nose out of my way, I will also have sworn my vengeance on the elf who defied me by sending my people after his seven children and killing them." "Is that the mother of the children?" Shareela pointed at a stone statue of an elven woman kneeling, as though cradling someone lying on the floor, a look of sorrow etched on her pretty face. Hera glanced at the statue and nodded, an evil sneer on her face. She spit on the statue. "At last I will have my vengeance on your children, Calendra. You have lost Graem, and now you will lose your children. The name Narelen will soon be nothing more than words in the history of the Faerie." She laughed, an evil cackle which resonated throughout the room. Shareela laughed along with her queen, the two of them enjoying the sadistic mirth they derived from their evil laughter. And unnoticed by the two cackling women, a tear slipped down Calendra's face, splashing onto the floor at her knees. ------------------------------TO BE CONTINUED------------------------------ I'd make this a bit longer but then I decided to make chapter 15 extra, extra long, so this is just a 'get ready for action' story. The next chapter will take a longer time to come online because of that, so don't worry if I don't post for a while after this chapter. I'm going to try to make Chapter 15 the best chapter so far.
