Somehow, Chad had found a blown up picture of the Rolling Stone cover. Jeremy hadn't had the heart to tear it down. Chad covered Jeremy's eyes with his hands. "I have a surprise for you, honey," Jeremy could hear the smile in Chad's voice. "Okay," Jeremy grinned. Chad led him to the bedroom. He removed his hands from Jeremy's eyes. He blinked a few times before he saw the gift. Kevin's eyes stared at him as his mouth dropped. "Oh Chad," he breathed. "How did you find this?" Chad shrugged with a smile. "I've got connections," he laid his arm across Jeremy's shoulders. Jeremy practically jumped into his boyfriend's arms. "Thank you so much, Baby," he grinned and kissed Chad with as much passion as he could muster up. "Jeremy?" Mica's voice brought him back from his memory. "Hey," he whispered. She hugged him. "I'm sorry." Jeremy broke the hug. "Don't be sorry. You didn't do anything. Let's just go to the concert and have fun." "Um. About that concert..." "Dammit." "I'm sorry. My sister dumped her daughter on me at the last minute. Somehow, Marcy found out that I had tickets and called me up. Apparently, I owe her a favor or something. I'm really sorry, Jeremy. I tried everything I could," Mica looked like she was going to cry. Jeremy wrapped his arms around his tiny friend. "It's okay. They'll come back to Ohio and we'll go together. Take Daisy and have fun." "Are you sure? I can tell Marcy that the tickets didn't come through before she brings Daisy down." "Mikey, it's okay. Go and have fun. You see me all the time, you never get to see Daisy." Mica sighed. "If you insist. I'll call you when I get back." "Alright, bring me back some souvenirs, okay?" "Of course," Mica hugged him as her beeper went off. "Dammit. Marcy and Daisy are at my place. Bye Jeremy," she kissed his cheek and left the house. Jeremy sighed and slumped down into his computer chair. He flipped it on and waited for it to boot up. He opened up his writing file and scrolled down until he found the document he was looking for. `From Chad'. He opened it and read the letter. Dear Jeremy, You won't believe me because you never did but you deserve better than someone like me. You don't understand how special you really are. That's why I left. You need someone better than me. I met someone, Jeremy. She completes me. Her name is Noelle. She's smart, funny, gorgeous, and is just all around perfect. I love her, Jeremy. You know I love you but I need something you can't give me. Noelle is everything I want in a person. You both mean the world to me but she won in a hands-down vote. I'm sorry. Love always, Chadwick Tears streamed down Jeremy's face. He didn't understand why he constantly tortured himself with that letter. He closed the document and opened a fresh one. "Waves crashed around Liddy. Her love, Derrick, was gone. Never again would she look into his deep green eyes or run her fingers through his shaggy black hair..." "Yuck," Jeremy sneered and deleted the passage. With a heartfelt sigh, he shut down his computer and fell onto his bed. Emotions ripped through his body. He knew he should be angry about not going to the concert, not having the chance to meet his secret fantasy. Of course, in Jeremy's mind, he didn't deserve such luck. He felt like he was destined to be alone for the rest of his life, to be miserable, own dozens of cats, maybe a horse or two, to work at a job that he secretly loathed, and to never experience love, ever again. Jeremy sighed and looked up for the clock, instead his gaze fell open a shining object. The open pocket knife. "No," he whispered. "I wont do that again." Still, he found himself picking up the diamond. A rush of almost, happiness erupted through his veins. Turning it over, over and over again, staring at every centimeter. He rolled up the sleeve to his shoulder, this one shone smooth and tan. Closing his eyes, he christened his other joint. But as always, things do look up, at least, for a few minutes. Jeremy peered at his clock. 1: 03. 1: 04. 1: 05. "Dammit, Mica!" he yelled in frustration. Why hadn't she called yet? As if a prayer was answered, the phone rang. It felt like angel's singing to Jeremy's ears. He picked up the receiver and pretended he had been asleep. "Hello?" he asked in a groggy voice. "Hello? Mr. Gavitts?" an unsure voice asked in return. "This is Jeremy Gavitts. Can I help you?" "Mr. Gavitts, I'm a nurse from Montgomery Hospital. A friend of yours, if I'm correct, named Meka Nibb had you placed on her contact form." "Her name is pronounced Myka, what's wrong? Why is she at the hospital?" Jeremy felt fear racing through his body. Mica couldn't die. She was all he had left in this pathetic little world. "She's been in an accident."
