Subject: Encountering Nick - Interchange - Chapter One

DISCLAIMER: I don't know any of the men depicted in this story. It is
simply slash fiction and is not meant to be taken seriously. If it is
happening somewhere then that might be really hott but I doubt it. I do not
represent their record labels in anyway and am no connected with them in
anyway.

The only thing I have remotely in common with these boys is that Ashley
Parker Angel of O-town and I were born on the same exact day, August 1,
1981.

FIRST THINGS FIRST: What's up everybody, ND here. I'm the author of "Nick
and Ashley", "Josh's Heart" and the new story "Rival Hearts". I also did
the Brian sideline in this story but Kdawg, a very good friend of mine and
an excellent author approached me with an idea like this a looooong time
ago. We both got super busy and couldn't complete it during the
summer. We're both back now and excited to get this going.  "Interchange"
has arrived! This will run directly along side of "Encountering Nick" but
will deal with O-town and eventually will run directly inside and through
and around the main story.  You'll understand when it happens.

Interchange-Chapter One

FIVE MONTHS AGO...

"Here we are at the red carpet special right before the MTV Video Music
Awards slated to take place at 8pm tonight at the Hammerstein Ballroom. I'm
Kurt Loder and I'll be your host up until showtime. Let's see who we can
pull aside. Look it's the Backstreet Boys-guys come over here!" Kurt Loder
said into the camera.

All five boys stepped over and put on their happy faces. They were dressed
up in casual suits...some even drawn down with a loose tie here and there
to make it look fashionable.

"So how are you guys?" Kurt asked a starter question.

Everyone responded with a resounding "Good."

"So now you guys are not only up for a few awards but are performing
tonight, is that correct?" Kurt asked to get the conversation going.

"Yeah we're up for Best Single, Best Video and Best Group" AJ spoke up and
answered

"That's impressive, you guys have really come a long way huh? I remember my
first interview with you." Kurt said reminiscing.

"Yeah I think Nick was still taller than me back then." Brian joked as
everyone had a laugh.

"But no seriously we've really tried to give our fans everything we
possibly could and quite possibly pave the way for other artists like
ourselves to come in and take over if and when we decide to call it quits."
Kevin said.

"When do you think that will happen?" Kurt asked a serious question to the
guys.

"It's tough to say, you know no one can dictate when the success will stop.
You just gotta keep trying to stick together." Howie said somewhat lying.

All five guys felt a little tense around each other lately. Brian and Nick
seemed to be spending a little extra time together than usual, which was
cool when they first started the band but now it's kinda annoying. Kevin
was always talking to management about something. AJ was always with Jenny
since they were engaged and Howie was always out on the prowl looking for
someone to share his life with since it seemed like everyone else had one
but him. It was all old and new stuff but it seemed to be getting a little
too tense for everyone's liking.

"Well, look who it is, one of those artists that you seemed to have paved
the way for into this genre of music. Welcome to the red carpet O-town."

Ashley, Erik, Dan, Trevor and Jacob all stepped up wearing much more of a
casual ensemble than the other boys.

"Hey Kurt, we figured we'd drop in and say hi." Ashley said with that
killer smile.

"I gotta tell you, I never thought you guys would make it...considering the
way you guys did it but you've put all that behind you and are really
making a name for yourselves now." Kurt said

"Thanks Kurt, I think." Erik said with a laugh.

"When's the new album coming out?" Kurt asked

"We're almost done with it. We wanted it to be perfect. We didn't want to
just throw some songs out there to fill an album. We want to look back on
it in ten years and go that was fun to make and it represented us at that
time. Only a few more months until O2 comes out," Dan said.

"That's great to hear, I'm sure it's gonna be great. Alright thank you all
for the interview and let's take it back up to John Norris." Kurt said
wrapping up the interview.


"What did you think of BSB tonight Danny?" Ashley said as he was lying on
his New York hotel bed, shirtless with his hands behind his head, wearing
just a pair of mesh shorts low on his waist.

"They seemed like nice guys." Dan responded laying down next to his
boyfriend.

"Yeah they were nice but they didn't really seem like they got it
together."  Ashley said.

"What do you mean Ash?" Dan said starting to play with Ashley's blond hair.

"Well I was listening to their interview before we decided to casually
mosey on over there and they were talking about what it would be like after
it was over.  That's not really a great way to tell the press they're not
going anywhere." Ashley said looking up at the ceiling.

"I guess that's better for us right?" Dan asked.

"Exactly" Ashley said as he turned towards Dan and looked into his blue
eyes. "This is our chance I think. Justin Timberlake is going solo,
Backstreet Boys are on the decline yet we're just starting. This is our
chance to really take advantage of the genre and step in and lead the way."
Ashley said.

"It's exciting stuff." Dan said with a smile

"It's our chance Danny." Ashley said.

"As long as I'm with you then I'll be happy." Dan said as he leaned in and
kissed his boyfriend.

Both men were incredibly hot for each other and each of them knew
it. Ashley ran his hand underneath Dan's shirt and began to play with his

disrupt the band. Seeing as there is no band anymore then he will now focus
on that." Trevor said as he read the article.

"He said he's looking for opening acts too for when he goes on tour after
his recording is finished...probably in about 4 months or so." Erik said
looking over Trevor's shoulder.

"We should jump on that guys. This could be our chance to really get things
going. If that tour goes well that might give us enough popularity to get
our own headlining tour since the album will be coming out around that time
too." Ashley said with enthusiasm.

"I'm gonna have to go with Ash on this one." Jacob said catching onto
Ashley's enthusiasm.

There was another reason Jacob was so quick to agree with Ashley...because
he had a thing for him. He always had a thing for Ashley. In the beginning
when the band was first formed Ashley and Jacob were the two tightest. They
even co-wrote a few songs back then...some of the earliest stuff they
did. They would stay up late into the night just talking, playing music and
just enjoying each other's company.

Then Dan came into the band. He was like a breath of fresh air for a group
of guys that wasn't taking this seriously enough. He was everything
professional that each of them wanted to be. Ashley loved it. He wanted to
make it famous so bad that he clung to Dan to try to get the band where
both of them wanted. This made Jacob grow further away from Ashley and
closer to his girlfriend Janie.

He loved Janie since they were kids but the more time he spent around
Ashley the more he was starting to come to understanding of his
sexuality. After Ashley wasn't around that much he grew his dreadlocks back
out, starting painting his nails again and decided to get back to the real
Jacob instead of Jacob the pop star wannabe. He gave the band an edge and
management loved it but it tore Jacob apart inside, especially that night
about three months ago.

"Guys, me and Danny have an announcement." Ashley said in front of the
group.

"Me and Ash are together." Dan said with his low voice.

Those words rang through Jacob's head like a bell as the clock struck
twelve. He was so torn up inside but was still fighting for any chance he
could have back at Ashley. He had to do something. Maybe this little thing
with Dan was just a phase. The phone rang and woke him out of his daze. He
had somehow come from the breakfast table into his room and laid down on
his bed to think. He felt like a zombie sometimes and forgot how he even
got places. He had to get this together. He picked up the phone dismayed
already knowing how it was.

"Hey Janie" Jacob said with a frown.

PRESENT TIMES...

"It won't happen to them. I doubt it." Geoff said to Nick. "O-Town seems
like such a together band. I bet they have no problems at all."

"People thought the same about us." Nick said uncertainly. "Every band has
it problems."

"Oh. That sucks." Geoff said bleakly.

They laid in each other's arms on the bed of the hotel room, still staring
up the ceiling, just enjoying the other's company."

"So," Geoff said to Nick, "have they told you yet who your new opening act
will be?"

"Nope." Nick replied. "I won't know until tomorrow."
