Give Me Just This One Chance Chapter #1 I was late. Again. I worked just down the street from where my mother, sister, and I live, but time and time again I'm late, due to my carelessness. I rushed into the Starbucks employee entrance at the mall, and hanged up my coat, suddenly face to face with the manager. "I know! I know! I slept in!" It was a lie, but, anything to save my ass. "I don't care! If it happens again, you are FIRED!" His face was throbbing with frustration and was a lovely shade of purple. He grabbed my arm and said in a low murmur, "Look, I'm sorry. It's been really hectic around here lately, and I need all of my 'ployees on the job, awake and smiling." I nodded, showing that I understood. He let me go. I went to get my pin and visor on, clocked in, and went to my station. I was on sample duty. I. Hate. Sample. Duty! But, little did I know that it was about to change my life, in ways that I today still cannot comprehend. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Marc. Marc Dejarnett. I am 20 years old, 5'11", 155 lb., brown hair, hazel eyes, glasses, etc. Since I'm a dancer (mostly hip-hop and jazz and the sort), I've got a pretty good body build, but I'm not Herculean. I compete and take classes at my local dance theater, the Compilation. I'm good, but I'm no pro. Oh, and by the way, I'm gay. But anyway, I was on sample duty (ugh), handing out sample mini-muffins, when a blonde guy (really cute blonde guy) comes up to me and asks me how to get to the music store. I look at my watch, 3:29. Aaah, what the hell, close enough. "Well, I am off of work in about 10 seconds, so I could show you how to get there, since you look like you're in a hurry." He furrows his brow, "Are you sure?" I flash him a cheesy grin. "Yeah!" I offer him my hand, and he shakes it, "The name's Marc. What's yours?" "Uummm...name's James." "Nice to meet ya." "Ditto." "Come with me." I said and motioned for him to follow me. We walked back to the back where I clock out and grab my coat. I walked out of the employee's entrance and looked behind me. The guy was behind me by about two steps. "Hey, man, you don't have to walk behind me, come on up here!" I motioned with my hand for him to come up beside me. He was next to me in two strides. I decided to try to converse with him. "So, you from here?" "Nope. From Mississippi." I nodded and umhmed my approval, "Ahh, the Cajun State. Well, me, I am from here, good ol' Georgia." He murmured something under his breath, but I thought he was just talking to himself. "Hey, Marc." he called to me, "Do you like Nsync?" "Yeah! Their songs are great for my choreographies!" "Ohh, well, who's your favorite?" I thought about it for a second. "Well, I'd have to say that Lance Bass is my favorite. I mean, those eyes. Those beautiful, green eyes." I must've been looking tired or something, because James asked me if I needed to sit down or something. "Well, I have been standing up all day. Why not?" "Okay." So we stopped at one of the benches and sat down before I realized that we had already been in and out of the store. "So, what CD's did you get?" "Oh!" he opened his bag and showed me the contents. "Well, let's see." I said, "Destiny's Child: the Writing's on the Wall, 3LW: No More (good song), Charlie's Angels Soundtrack, and Nsync: Space Cowboys." I whistled. "Man, that's all of my favorite material! Mind if I look in the case of 'Space Cowboys'?" "Sure, go ahead." he handed it to me. I opened it up and looked at the little folder of pictures that you usually get in CD's and opened it up - right to the picture of Lance. I looked at it, absorbing his every feature: his piercing, green eyes, his slightly upturned lips that always sent me into shocks of ecstasy, and his perfectly spiked, beautiful, blonde hair. He almost reminded me of someone, James. "Would you like me to leave you two alone? You look as if you're in love!" I looked at him. "I wouldn't know. I've never been in love before. But I think I am." I cocked my head at him. He just looked too familiar. "Could you take off your sunglasses for a second? I mean, you just look kinda familiar, I wanted to see if I was remotely right." James sighed. "I will, but first, I need you to promise me something." I nodded. "I need you to promise me that you won't scream or yell or talk really loudly, ok?" I nodded. He reached for his sunglasses and slowly pulled them off. Almost immediately I recognized those piercing green eyes. I gasped: "Oh, shit! Oh fuckin' shit!" With that, I got up and ran to the restroom. ******************************************************************** Well, that's it for this round! Stick around and things'll get lots better.
