Date: Wed, 31 May 2000 20:53:36 +0100 From: Jonathan Arnison Subject: I Should Be So Lucky [1st Installment] I-Should-Be-So-Lucky So here is the first installment of my first story that I have decided to put up on here. I hope that you'll enjoy it, I hope that you'll like the characters and I hope that you'll give me feedback at TrueBlue86@cwcom.net Now, how quick I get this out depends on whether people like it and when I have the time, but I should... Oh, the usual disclaimers apply - This story has no relevance to anyone in real life and bears no relation to the sexuality of any members of N Sync whatever it may be. I take no responsibility for anyone reading this underage - please make sure your town/ state/ country laws allow you to be reading this. This story is meant for mature people who can make their own descisions about what they read. If love between members of the same sex makes you uncomfortable, please get lost :) Oh and, if you ARE underage and you get caught, you're on your own, baby, okay? :) One last thing, please read these great stories: Search and Rescue, Brian and Me and Josh and Just - they're all excellent stories with great plots and development. And do service to America... buy Madonna CD's :) (You'll understand) CHAPTER ONE My senses came to me all at once. I jolted awake. My eyes opened, I searched around me for something, a shred of something. I knew I was lying in a bed, a very uncomfortable bed, obviously not mine. I could sense someone else in the room, yes, I could hear someone breathing. They sounded as if they were asleep. On further adjustment to the lack of light, I realised I was in a hospital. I felt myself - no I wasn't attatched to anything. I moved every part of my body and I felt it all. I couldn't remember or even think for the life of me why I would be here. I went through a checklist - Name: Aidan Halstead, Age: 24, Likes: Madonna, Kylie Minogue and definitely not where I am right now. As I thought a little more I wondered where I had been. Then it clicked. Everything came back to me. I had been at a N Sync concert. I was on holiday in the US with my friend Lia and we had gone to the concert. That was it. I felt a lot better knowing a little more about myself. But I still wasn't comfortable. As I shifted a little more I made a loud enough sound to wake the person sat near me. "Hey, you, you shouldn't be awake" said a soothing voice, "Well, it's better than being asleep" I thought out aloud, "Where am I anyway?" I questioned, hoping for something more than a, "Nevermind" "You're in the hospital. Can you remember what happened?" said the voice. "No, not really" I said - meaning, No, not at all. The figure shifted his chair and moved in closer to me. "You were at a concert, well, our concert." that made me startled, "Do you remember who I am?" said the man. "No." I replied, expecting "A Doctor" to be the answer. "I'm JC, from N Sync. I decided to sit with you, since most of this was all my fault." replied the voice, guiltily. As I sat and listened, I heard him describe exactly what had happened. It seemed whilst the show was on, myself and my friend Lia, who was strangely not anywhere near me in the hospital, had been dancing away when JC had beckoned myself and Lia to go up on stage to be part of a new thing they were trying where they had a few fans on stage to dance and be stupid. I wanted to ask why he would have picked me out of all those screaming girls but I saved that for later. Anway, while we were making our way up a few girls got overheated and began fighting with Lia, I stepped in and soon there was a mighty push forward which crushed a few people and sent me flying into the barriers (I had been on the front row) - I had been unconscious with some head injuries, nothing serious, and Lia had just been a little bruised. JC had decided to come and check up on me because he had felt a little guilty but ended up staying the night, completely tired out from performing. "Well, I don't know what to say but thank you for caring" I managed, slightly, but slightly awestruck at who was with me. "You're completely welcome, I just felt guilty." he replied, "Please accept my apology?" he questioned, like a small child who had broken his mother's favourite ornament. "Of course I will" I said back. "Am I okay?" I asked. "You're fine now, I believe." he said, "You'll probably be out in a few days" he said, "I think they just want you to rest" he said. Annoyed and scared I said, "But I have to fly home tomorrow morning" "England right?" he asked, "I recognised the accent." "It's called Great Britain actually..." I said, with a humorous tone, so as not to make him uncomfortable, "I'm from Chester, in the north." "Okay, sorry sir" he laughed, "I'm not a geography student." he replied. "It's okay" I laughed, "We'll work on it." "What's your name?" he asked "Aidan... Aidan Halstead" I said, and then, in a flash of worry, "I have to discharge myself. I need to catch my flight. How will I get back?" "Oh no you won't" he said, sternly, "You're resting. You'll probably leave the hospital by the end of tomorrow and you can stay with us in our hotel. I feel so responsible for this." he admitted. "No way, I couldn't" I answered, "I really shouldn't. That would be imposing and you have shows to play, you don't need the hassle of someone clogging up your hotel rooms." "Nonsense. We hire whole floors, and while we are here in New York we're hiring a beautiful hotel which has four bedrooms connected to a main living area. There's two sofa beds. There's enough room" he said, rather over-enthusiastically. "And I'm sure the guys would love this." I replied, sarcastically. "Well, they won't have a say anyway. But they won't mind. They felt bad too. They're coming in the morning to check up on you. I'll run it by them then. For now, get to sleep, stop worrying and cheer up. You'll be okay soon!" he said cheerfully. The morning came, and I felt refreshed. I wanted to leave to catch my flight, until I looked at the clock and it said 11:30 - ah well, only 2 hours too late. JC was nowhere to be seen and I had completely forgotten about Lia. Just as I was pondering this, JC entered the room smiling happily. "Where's Lia?" I asked, forgetting my manners. "Hello to you too," he laughed, "She's in the waiting room. She's asleep. She's going to stay with us too. I ran it by the guys. They're perfectly happy with it. And between you and me, I think Chris has the hots for your friend." he laughed. I couldn't help laughing along too, no matter how pissed off I was. "Here come the guys now" he said. I shifted, feeling slightly uncomfortable and awkward. I was greeted by overly-cheerful "Hi's" and "How are ya's" and all I managed was a smile and a "Hi" "So Hi!" said Chris, smiling, "Get enough sleep?" he laughed "Yeah, too much. I should be halfway back to the UK by now" I replied, still really pissed off. "Nevermind huh? You're still staying with us right?" asked Chris, a little over-enthusiastically "Yeah. Why do you ask?" I questioned, knowingly. Out of the corner of my eye I saw JC laughing. "He's 'in love' with your friend" said, who I believed to be, Justin "Hey! Shut your mouth" laughed Chris, "Sorry about that" he said to me. "It's okay." I replied, "Lia wouldn't say no though" I laughed, making Chris blush bright red. "Oh please... look at him!" said Lance, laughing, "He's a lovely shade of red. My my you look attractive" "Could you stop it!" shouted Chris, a little in jest, but a little in annoyance. At that moment I heard an almighty scream and saw Lia run in and practically knock the life out of me. She gave me a huge cuddle and a kiss and I heard everyone laughing. "How's my little sweetheart?" she asked. "Hurting" I replied, much to the amusment of everyone else. "Awww... snookums" she said, kissing me again. "Hey, are you two married or something?" asked Chris, a little out of jealousy, a little out of surprise. "Oh please, like I'd marry this thing. Pity the guy who ends up with her" I said, laughing. "Same goes to you" she said, only this time I could sense that they hadn't really guessed that I liked guys. I also liked girls, may I add at this point. I had the capacity to fall in love with both sexes. Anyway, back to the story, I gave her a look and asked if I could be given time have a wash. I asked Lia where our suitcases were and she said she'd been to collect them the previous night. JC offered to put them in the Limo waiting outside for myself and Lia whilst I washed, and so I accepted. I got out of the bed, cleaned myself up a little and made my way to the waiting room where Lia was waiting. "They've gone back to the Limo" she said, "I said I'd wait here" "Sure, hun." I replied, "By the way, did you realise Chris has a major crush on you?" "Yeah, Joey kind of laughingly said something about it to me. It's really funny. I Don't blame him though" she laughed "Please girl," I said, mockingly, "I pity the guy. He could be with Britney Spears right now If he wanted." "It's brains over beauty" she retorted, "Actually, it's just beauty and brains over nothing" she laughed "Britney is not that bad" I said, "She's okay." "Did you see the "Oops I Did It Again" video?" she asked, "One word: Fat" We both laughed our way out to the Limo, feeling a little self-concious and hopped in. There were two seats left and, surprise surprise, one was next to Chris. I sat down next to JC leaving Lia to sit with her lover boy, and she just shot me a look that meant "I will kill you" Then she smiled at me and said, "Did you bring your CD's?" asked Lia, startling me "Of course" I said, "Why?" wondering what was coming here. "I just wondered if you wanted to display your musical taste to they guys" she laughed "Why, what do you mean?" Justin said "Well, for one, he loves Madonna" she said, expecting groans, but instead it was met with "She's okay's" and "I liked 'Beautiful Stranger'" "And for another, do you remember 'I Should Be So Lucky'?" she asked "Nope." they said, in unison "Perhaps I can explain" I interjected, "Kylie Minogue. Heard of her?" Immediately Joey got up and started laughing and singing "Come on baby, do the Loco-Motion" "Yes, thank you Joey" I replied, "Well in the UK and Australia and most of Europe she's second only to Madonna. She's had a fair few number one hits. She's been releasing stuff since 1987." I began, not realising I was "doing my Kylie thing again" as Lia liked to call it, "She's had 5 UK Number 1 hits, which is more than Mariah or Whitney. In fact, she's a lot more famous than them in the UK still" "Nobody cares" said Lia, laughing "No I do." said JC, "Play some of her music" he asked "Are you sure?" Lia asked, "I mean, you do want your ears to stay intact" she laughed "Very funny, Missy" I said, placing the "Greatest Hits" CD into a player in the Limo. I selected track number 14, a particular favourite of mine, out came the cool synth noises, deep bass and club percussion of "What Do I Have To Do?" "What year was this released?" asked Chris, "It sounds quite good actually" "It's 1990" I said, "It was a big hit" "I like it." said Lance, who, up until this point had been very quiet, "It sounds really clubby." he pressed next and was greeted with "Shocked", another clubby song which also had done pretty well. I thought I had managed to convert them, until Lia decided to select track one, "I Should Be So Lucky" - everyone laughed. "What the hell is this man?" asked Justin "It was a HUGE hit" I said "It's um..." stuttered Lance "Yeah, I know. You think it is crap! Well, I love it! It's so cute and fun and that's what pop music is about." After one long heated discussion about Kylie I made my way, extremely tired, to the hotel room. JC offered to carry my bag for me with a bright smile which gained a "Oh yeah?" look from Lia, which only made me feel even more pissed off and tired. "Save it girl" I said, in my best mock gangsta voice. Everyone turned and stared, not getting the joke, and this just made Lia break down into hysterics. The elevator doors opened and we climbed in. It was pretty cramped but luckily only three floors and the whole time JC's butt was staring at me. I'm sorry, but I am red-blooded and I couldn't get over that tight butt. The door opened and we walked to the room which was really quite grand. I was still thinking about JC's butt singing along to "Where Is The Feeling?" in my head, not realising I was actually singing out loud the line "Anytime you want me to, I can make you happy" "What was that Aidan?" asked JC, laughing "Ummm..." I said, turning a very nuclear shade of red "He was just singing... AGAIN" said Lia, looking like she was sick of me "Hey, I have a sweet voice darlin' - If you're not happy with it, piss off" I said, feeling sick of the accusations from Lia. She always insults me when I sing. "I love the way you say 'Piss Off'" said JC, quite surprisingly, "It sounds much more... vindictive when you say it with that accent" "Wait 'til he says it in German" Lia laughed "You speak German?" he asked "Yup. Almost fluently." I said, "I study it back home - I'm doing a degree in German and European Studies. I had studied it before in school though" "Interesting. I speak French" he confessed "Aaah... Bonjour" I said, "Ich spreche Franzosisch nicht so gut" I replied in my best German "He says 'I don't speak French very well'" translated Lia for JC who had a very quizzical look upon his face. The guys began to get changed, they wanted to go out clubbing and myself and Lia were going to stay behind. That is, until Joey asked us both if we wanted to come and, Lia, making herself completely obvious, said 'Yes' as if she'd been asked to marry Tom Cruise. I was feeling overly tired and decided upon a quiet night in with some CD's, room service courtesy of N Sync and some cable TV, even though I'd heard American TV was pretty bad. "Are you sure you're not coming?" asked a very well-groomed Lance "Nope." I replied, "I'm feeling tired... the TV and some CD's will do. That stereo over there looks inviting." With that I pulled out a copy of Madonna's Greatest Hits and began playing "Live To Tell", one of my favourite songs. "JC, hurry up" said an annoyed Chris, "We gotta get there, come on man" "I've decided not to come" replied JC, walking from the bathroom, "I'm tired as well, and plus we can't have Aidan sat here on his own, can we?" he said, looking at me and flashing a smile. "Nope." said Lia, smiling at me knowingly. The guys all made their way out chatting, and Lia was suspiciously walking close to Chris, I was thinking to myself how they were going to be together before the night was out when I heard JC sniffling. I looked over and he was sitting on the balcony listening to "Live To Tell" "What's wrong?" I asked, quite concerned. "It's these lyrcis. They're beautiful. They're just so... I can relate" he stated "What, you have a secret? Ooh... sounds like 'The National Enquirer' could make a bit from this" I laughed. It was met with silence. I listened as another verse of "Live To Tell" made it's way from the stereo with Madonna's soft, innocent voice. "If I ran away, I'd never have the strength, to go very far, How would they hear, the beating of my heart. Will it grow cold, the secret that I hide, Will I grow old. How will they hear, when will they learn, how will they know?" "JC, you're scaring me" I said, "I don't like to see anyone unhappy" "Well, you'd be unhappy too if you were... me" he said though his tears "What's bad about being JC. He's sexy, funny, smart, a great singer" I said, trying to cheer him up "And he's also gay" he stated, turning away from me... To Be Continued... Hehehe well what will happen? (Oh bollocks, like you don't know...) Well, mail me (TrueBlue86@cwcom.net) I promise there will be less Madonna and Kylie references in the next installment. I just needed to get you to understand that I... sorry, the character ;) Loves Madonna and Kylie very much!!! :)
