Joey said, as he took a drink from the coke he held in his hand. "Sorry, just thinking, I guess." JC said, as he hesitantly looked in Joey's direction. "So, what's on your mind?" Joey asked, getting straight to the point. "I have a lot on my mind, Joe. I just don't know where to start." JC said, not looking at Joey. "Well, why don't you start at the beginning." Joey said, sensing how nervous JC was becoming. "The beginning? I'm not even sure where the beginning is right now." JC said, confusing Joey a bit. "Josh, we've been friends for quite a few years now haven't we?" Joey said, glancing at JC's profile. "Yeah," JC responded, glancing towards Joey, then returning his attention to the road. "We're pretty tight, aren't we?" Joey asked, looking out the side window. "Sure, we are. What are you getting at?" JC asked, glancing once more at Joey. "What I'm getting at, is this. You can tell me anything. I thought you knew that." Joey said, looking back at JC. "I do, Joe. The thing is, sometimes it's just harder to tell the people that are close to you about certain things." JC said, not sure where he wanted to go with the conversation. "I understand that. I know when I told you guys about Kevin and me, I was afraid of how you were going to react." Joey said, not taking his eyes off JC. "You were?" JC asked, looking into Joey's eyes. "Yeah, you guys are the best friends I have. I wanted your approval. Although, I did notice that one of my friends wasn't all that happy about the news." Joey said, hoping to open things up for JC. "Me?" JC asked, as his heart skipped a beat. "Yeah, it was sort of obvious. I have to admit, you did your best to cover it up, but I could tell you weren't happy about it." Joey said, finishing his drink and looking back at JC. "It's not that I'm not happy for you, Joe." JC said, not taking his eyes off the road. "Then what is it?" Joey asked, hoping to get this over with as soon as possible. "I don't know. It's a lot of things." JC started, not sure how to tell Joey what was on his heart. "Josh, pull into that park over there. Let's get out of this car and just sit down and talk about it, okay?" Joey said, wanting to go to a place where he had Josh's complete attention. "Okay, that sounds like a good idea." JC said, moving to turn into the nearby parking lot. Once they had parked the car, they got out and started towards the park entrance. It was a nice area, complete with swimming pools, and hiking trails. They decided to grab a seat at one of the picnic tables. At that time of the day, it was a place with a little more privacy. "Josh, can I ask you something without you getting mad at me?" Joey asked, trying once again to get JC to open up to him. "Sure," JC said, turning to look at his friend. "Well, does this problem have anything to do with you being gay?" Joey asked, as gently as he could. "What!" JC asked, loudly at first then containing himself. "What do you mean does it have to do with me being gay? What makes you think I'm gay?" JC asked, suddenly even more nervous. "Oh, I don't know. Maybe, because you told me, you are." Joey said, completely taking JC by surprise. "When, did I say that?" JC asked, totally unaware. "Do you remember that last time you and I went out to a club?" Joey asked, hoping to remind JC of their conversation. "Yeah, I remember. I don't remember saying anything like that." JC said, his emotions overloading. "Well, you were pretty drunk. You told me when I was helping you into bed." Joey said, reflecting on that evening. "I did not tell you I was gay." JC said, denying what he knew to be the truth about himself. "Are you?" Joey asked, looking into JC's eyes. "What? C'mon, Joe." JC said, not sure what to do with himself. "It's okay, Josh. I'm not going anywhere." Joey said, hoping to ease his friend's mind. "Joey, I," JC started, but not able to find the words to say. "Just say it." Joey said, placing his hands on both JC's shoulders. "Okay, you're right. I'm gay." JC said, as his eyes filled with tears. "It's okay. I understand." Joey said, as he started towards JC with open arms. "No, you don't. You don't understand anything." JC said, turning from Joey's arms. "Umm, why do I get the feeling there's more to this than you being gay?" Joey asked, towards JC's back. "I don't know. Maybe, because you know me." JC said, turning towards Joey with tears dampening his cheeks. "Josh, what's going on, man? It can't be that bad, can it?" Joey asked, not sure he really wanted the answer. "Yes, it could be." JC said, not able to look at his friend. "Just tell me." Joey said, his heart feeling as if it might explode with fear. "I'm not sure, I know how." JC said, fear gripping his heart as he looked into his friend's eyes. "Josh, I'm going to ask you a question. No matter how you answer, I want you to know that I love you and we'll get through it, okay?" Joey asked, taking JC's hand in his. "Okay," JC said, not sure he was ready for this question. "Josh, is something going on with you and Kevin?" Joey asked, blind siding JC once again. "What?" JC asked, completely stunned by the question. "Are you in love with him?" Joey asked, his heart pounding with emotion. "No, I'm not in love with, Kevin! Why would you think something like that?" JC asked, pulling his hand from Joey's. "Then what is it? What could possibly have you this upset?" Joey asked, in concern for his friend. "Promise me that what I have to say, won't change our friendship." JC said, turning towards Joey. "Nothing you can say is gonna change how I feel about you. Now, what's up?" Joey asked, hoping to finally get his answer. "I'm not in love with, Kevin. I'm in love with, you." JC said, his knees almost failing him as the words left his mouth. "Oh my God," Joey said, almost inaudibly, as he took a seat on a near by bench. JC's words echoed over and over in his mind. "You hate me don't you?" JC asked, bringing Joey back to reality. "No, I don't hate you. I could never hate you." Joey said, his emotions going in a million different directions. "Joey, I didn't mean for this to happen, it just did." JC said, attempting to explain himself. "How long?" Joey asked, catching JC off guard. "What?" JC asked, standing in front of him. "How long have you, you know." Joey asked, looking up at JC. "About a year," JC said, lowering his eyes. "Why didn't you tell me?" Joey asked, as he stood to his feet. "Because, I didn't want to lose you." JC said, as he turned from Joey. "You're not going to lose me, Josh." Joey said, as he walked to him, wrapping his arms around his waist. JC shivered at Joey's touch. Feeling his arms around his waist, caused a stir in his emotions, as well as his groin. "What do we do now?" JC asked, placing his arms over Joey's. "I don't know." Joey said, resting his chin on JC's shoulder. "Are you okay?" "Yeah, I think so." JC said, rubbing Joey's arm. "Are you sure?" Joey asked, as he gave him a slight squeeze. "Yeah, I'll be okay." JC said, trying to convince himself as well as Joey. "Josh, I know this was hard for you. I just want you to know, I appreciate you telling me." Joey said, as he released JC. "I wanted to tell you for a long time. I just couldn't do it." JC said, turning to face him. "What made you decide to tell me tonight?" Joey asked, his curiosity getting the better of him. "Kevin," JC stated. "Kevin?" Joey asked, "Is this what you guys were talking about the other night?" "Yeah, he sort of dragged it out of me." JC said, with the first hint of a smile since they had started talking. "That's what he was trying to hide from me." Joey said, more to himself than to JC. "Yeah, he thought it would be better coming from me, than from someone else." JC, stated, matter of factly. "Well, he was right about that." Joey said, as Kevin's face passed through his mind. "He was going to tell you, but he wanted to give me the chance to do it, first." JC said, giving Joey some new understanding on the situation. "That sounds like him." Joey said, as a smile crossed his face. "You really love him don't you?" JC asked, as he looked as his friend. "Yes, I do. There's only one problem with that." Joey said, causing confusion in JC's mind. "What's that?" JC asked, giving Joey a curious look. "I love you, too." Joey said, his words exposing a hidden battle within him. "What?" JC, asked, not believing what he had just heard. "Josh, come over here and sit down. I think it's time we put all the cards on the table." Joey said, taking a seat and patting the area next to him. JC, understanding what he meant, walked over and took a seat next to him. As he sat there he could see the mixture of emotions running through his friends mind, as well as his heart. Suddenly, the reality of his love for him became overwhelming as he watched the battle raging within him. "Joey?" JC started, as Joey held up his hand to silence him. "Josh, just listen, and don't say anything until I'm finished." Joey said, looking into his friend's eyes. JC returned Joey's look, seeing an almost pained look in his eyes. Conceding, he motioned with his hand for Joey to continue. "Josh, that night we went out to the club, I knew I enjoyed being with you, and that I wanted to do that as for as long as I could. We opened up to each other that night. We shared things with each other and we became so much closer. Closer, than I ever imagined that we could, to be honest. We were so happy. We had such a good time. When we got home, I helped you upstairs to bed. There was just something more there. I helped you out of your clothes, and started to put you in bed. Then out of nowhere, you told me about yourself. I thought it was just the drinks talking, so I didn't give it a lot of thought. As I pulled the cover up around you, I sat there on your bed, just staring down at you. I knew right then, and there, that I was in love with you." Joey said, glancing once again into JC's eyes. JC opened his mouth to speak, but Joey held his hand up once again, silencing his friend. He knew that if he didn't say what was on his mind and heart, there was a good chance that he would never do it at all. "I've loved you since that day, Josh. I just never dreamed that you would share my feelings. The thing is, it's all more complicated now. I love Kevin, too. I don't want to hurt either of you, but I can't have you both." Joey said, as he took JC's hand in his. "Joey, I," JC started. "Shh, don't say anything." Joey said, interrupting JC's thoughts, as he stood to his feet. JC stood facing Joey as their hands remained locked together. Although, Joey knew he loved Kevin, he found himself being drawn to JC in a way he'd never known. Suddenly, under cover of the darkness, that neither of them had realized had come upon them, they drew closer to each other until their lips met, igniting something between them that they had never known was there. JC moaned as he felt Joey's lips unite with his own. Time seemed to stand still at that moment as they explored each other, tasted each other, needed each other. To Be Continued...
