I asked as I picked up the receiver. "Mike?" I knew the voice. "JC?" I asked as I sat up. "No, it's Rebecca... your manger, remember? Were you drinking?" I've been doing this the past couple of days. The last I heard from JC was that he wasn't out to the other guys in NSync...that was two days ago. I've been hallucinating, hearing him whenever I pick up the phone and seeing him whenever I do stuff. "No, of course not!" I protested. "What do you want?" "Were you thinking of touring for your new album?" she asked rather happily, something rare for her. "No," I replied, "I told you that I wasn't going to tour for little bit. I'm enjoying being a businessman and still being a celebrity. It's nice to have a nine to five job, co-founding and owning my own record company and all, is my escape from the celebrity world. It helps me think that I'm normal for those eight hours a day. That's when I'm just the boss." "You're always the boss," Rebecca laughed. She was right though, I was in complete control of my career now and wouldn't have it any other way. My first record contract gave the label complete control of my music and image, now I have a hand in everything I do. I write the lyrics to my songs, someone else writes the music. I co-direct my videos, was president and owner of my record label, which I founded after leaving my old one... "Where are you going with this?" I was completely confused, which isn't uncommon for me at this time in the morning. "Well, I got a call today from Robert Freedman, remember him?" she asked. "He directed `Turning the Tables', the comedy I starred in a couple of years ago..." "Yeah, well, they have everything they need to start the sequel, except you," she exclaimed. "Not interested," I replied. "What?" she screeched. "Since when aren't you interested in doing a movie. Aren't you the one always complaining that you want to be remember as much as an actor as you are a singer?" I remained silent. "Listen, kid," she began to explain, "the first movie was a big hit and they're willing to pay through the nose for you to come back in the sequel. I mean mega-bucks, boy. Come on..." "Maybe." "Good, I'll have them mail you the script ASAP, tell me if you're interested then..." she said before hanging up the phone. I plopped back down and buried my face in the pillows. *Ring...* Ugh indeed. "What?" I mumbled. "Mike!" Oh God, I'm having that hallucination again. I've never felt like this about anyone before, no one has ever made me hallucinate. "Mike?" "What?" I asked. "It's me, JC..." wow, this was a good one. Usually once they started to talk the dream ended. "Um, ok..." "Aren't you happy to hear from me?" Oh my God. It is him. Caller ID proves it, unless I'm having a double hallucination and imagining that his number is being displayed. "Yeah, of course, where are you?" I asked. "Well, we've finally wrapped up the tour, so I'm on my way back to New York..." "Ohhhh," I whined, "how cute. The first thing you're gonna do is come see me." "Well, actually we're going to New York to rehearse for the Michael Jackson concert, but you're a fringe benefit..." he chuckled. "Fringe benefit?!" I faked being mad. "Kiss my ass!" "I'd rather do something else to it..." I could almost hear him winking at me... "Yeah, me too, like talk," I said, crushing his hopes. "About..." "You. Me. Carson. Us." I listed the choices. "And mostly importantly... is there an us..." "Of course there is an us... we just haven't had much time lately. We will, promise..." he said soothingly. "Whatever, listen, I am NOT going to the Michael Jackson tribute with you so I..." "Why not?" "I'm not exactly a big fan of his..." "But there will be other people performing..." "I am not paying $2,500 to see you guys, Britney Spears, Whitney Houston, and Destiny's Child. I see you all at the VMAs..." I laughed a bit. "Please, come on, I love the guy, you have to like him a bit..." "I like `Scream', that's it, and I doubt he'll do that song. Sorry, but I'm really a Jackson fan...Michael Jackson or otherwise." "Janet?" "Rhythm Nation album is it..." "Who is your inspiration?" "Madonna, she has more a message. I believe in that more than just making money..." "Mike, come on, I..." "Listen, no, I don't want to go, just go with the guys..." "Alright...I guess..." "Well, when do you get in?" "Two hours, JFK airport, be there..." "Ok," I answered, noticing that he wasn't as excited as he was when we first started talking.
