Chapter 2

"I might as well face it," replies Chris, "I'm doomed to remain alone forever."

"No you're not Chris, " replies JC, as he hugs his friend, "You'll find the man of your dreams."

"I thought I had."

"Well, I'm very sorry about that Chris," replies JC, "But, you're just not my type."

"Why not?"

"Because I don't think it's a good idea for friends to get romantically involved, that's all."

"Well, look at Lance and Justin! They were friends before they got together, very good friends. And now they've been together for over a year and are for all intents and purposes married to one another."

"Well, I don't know what to say about Lance and Justin. I'm happy that they found love with one another. But, I guess I just don't care for the idea of friends dating friends. Maybe it's because I wanted Lance so badly two years ago, and then he fell in love with Justin. That hurt me a lot, and I guess it set a precedent for me. No dating or falling in love with people who I'm very close friends with."

"Well, I guess I can see where you're coming from," replies Chris, "So, I don't suppose Tyler is seeing anyone is he?"

"Chris, Tyler is not gay," replies JC, "Or at least if he is, he hasn't told me. And since he knows that I'm gay, I doubt that he would keep it from me if he was."

"Yes, I suppose you're right," says Chris, "So, are we doomed to be alone here? Or do you think we'll find love someday?"

"I'm sure that we'll both find love someday, Chris, it just looks like it's going to take a little bit longer then either of us planned."

"Josh if it takes any longer for me to get a man, I'm going to be over the hill before I lose my virginity!"

"Oh, come on Chris, you're not that old. You're not even 30 yet for crying out loud," replies JC, "And there's no way that you're still a virgin!"

"What? How are you going to tell me whether or not I'm a virgin or not? I am a virgin, JC."

"You are not!"

"I am so, and I would say that under oath to the grand-jury!"

"Okay, so maybe you are," replies JC, as he gives up, still not totally believing Chris.

----

Once again, Kevin sits alone in his office, looking with longing at the picture of Nick and him in the heart-shaped frame. Kevin is very happy that Kristin isn't home right now. Despite the fact that since their fight the other day she hasn't tried to get into his pants, which he is thankful about. It seems to be all Kristin is interested in. Kevin is sure that if she had her way, they'd be having sex twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Of course, this may be an exaggeration. The only reason that Kristin was probably hounding Kevin so much is because he hasn't made love to her since the night of their wedding in June. Kevin just can't bring himself to do it again. He's sure that he will not be able to betray his heart again. He knows that Kristin will probably get very angry with him, and probably want a divorce if they don't have a sexual relationship, but at this point Kevin really doesn't care.

In the months since their wedding, Kevin has been doing a ton of thinking, and he really does regret marrying Kristin. He's actually been tempted to call his lawyer and have the necessary papers drawn up to dissolve the marriage. The only thing stopping him from doing this is the fact that he knows what would happen if the press got a hold of that. It'd probably be all over the covers of every tabloid magazine in the world the day after Kevin signs his name to the papers. And then of course he'd have to explain things to his mother and his family, who all think that he is straight and madly head over heels in love with Kristin. The other Backstreet Boys would also undoubtedly want to know why he filed for divorce.

"Oh god, Nick, I want you so much," replies Kevin softly, as tears begin running down his cheeks, "I love you, Nick, I love you with all my heart. But, I can never have you. Oh god, LIFE IS NOT FAIR!!"

----

"Brian, honey? Is something wrong?"

"No, why do you ask?"

"Well, you've been kinda distant lately is all. And it seems that the closer to our wedding we get, the more distant you become."

"I'm sorry Leigh, I don't mean to be," replies Brian, as he kisses Leighanne on the forehead, "I just have a lot on my mind what with the upcoming tour, that's all."

"Okay, well, I have to go out for awhile, Bri, I'll be back later, okay?"

"Yeah, sure, honey," replies Brian, as he stares off into space, and Leighanne just looks at him for a moment longer, before heading out to her car.

"I never thought I'd say this, but I honestly think it may just be time that I stop this charade," replies Brian softly to himself, "I do love Leighanne, a lot, but I really don't think I can marry her, not when I have feelings so much deeper for someone else. But, I don't want to hurt Leigh, and calling off the wedding with only a week and a half to go would certainly do that. But then again, the longer I wait, the more painful it's going to get.

"I'm going to go see Kevin. I've got to tell someone how I'm feeling, and maybe he can give me some perspective, as a happily married man."

----

Kevin is brought out of his daydreams of Nick by the sound of the doorbell. He lays the picture of Nick done on the desk, gets up, and heads out of his office. Kevin heads downstairs and answers the door to find Brian standing there, looking rather confused and upset about something.

"Brian what's wrong?" asks Kevin of his cousin as he ushers him into the house.

"Kevin, I need your advice," replies Brian, with an intense seriousness in his voice, "I'm having second thoughts."

"Second thoughts about what, Bri?"

"About the wedding."

"Well, Brian, it's natural to get cold-feet."

"This isn't cold-feet, Kev, I'm honestly considering calling off the wedding."

Before Kevin can react, Kristin comes in.

"Hello, Kevy. Hi Brian."

"Um, Kris, I have to talk to Brian in private," replies Kevin, as he takes Brian's arm and leads him upstairs to his office, not thinking about the picture of Nick and him that's sitting on his desk.

Kevin and Brian go into Kevin's office and Kevin closes and locks the door. This is Kevin's favorite room in the house, because it is soundproof with the door closed. The only reason Kristin was able to hear Kevin the other day when he shouted downstairs that he was in his office is because the door was ajar. Kevin comes in here when he needs to think, and get away from Kristin, which is almost all the time, because it seems whenever she's home all she wants to do is go to bed.

"Brian what do you mean you're considering calling off the wedding?"

"I know how it sounds, Kev, I can't believe that I'm even thinking it. But I don't think marrying Leigh is a good idea."

"Why not, Bri? You love her don't you?"

"Yes, Kev, I do love Leigh, that's not the problem."

"So, what is the problem?"

"I haven't been totally honest about some things with her, and there's another person, who doesn't know it, that I'm in love with. And that love is deeper then what I feel for Leigh."

"So, why aren't you with this other girl?"

"That's just it Kev, it isn't a girl. I'm in love with another man."

"Come again?"

"I'm in love with another man, Kevin, I'm bi-sexual. And I suppose you hate me now."

----

"James?"

"Yeah, Just?"

"Tell me that you love me."

"I love you, Justin, baby."

"Thanks, I just love hearing you say it."

"Well, I'm going to keep saying it every day of our lives," replies Lance, with a smile as he kisses Justin on the forehead, "You have my heart, Just, that's a permanent lock."

"What did I ever do to deserve you?"

"Hey, you're not the lucky one here, Just, I am. I should be asking you that question."

"I love you, James. With all my heart and soul, and I'll never stop," replies Justin as he pulls Lance into a passionate kiss, their tongues wrestling playfully in each other's mouths.

"You two never stop, do you?"

"Well, we love each other, what can I say?" replies Justin, as he breaks his kiss with Lance to reply to Chris.

"Well, I'm glad you two are happy," replies Chris, "Now I just wish that I could get a man."

"As do I," replies JC.

"Well, you're both gay, why not..."

"Don't even say it, Lance. I'm not going to date Chris," replies JC, "Our relationship is and always will be strictly platonic. We're good friends and nothing more. Okay?"

"Fine. So, do either of you have any prospects at all?"

"Yes, my baby asks a very good question. Are there any guys either of you have your eyes on? Or are you two going to spend life as confirmed bachelors?"

"At the moment, I have no prospects," replies JC, "Something which for the moment, I am okay with."

"Well, I'll admit that I don't have anyone right now," replies Chris, "But I assure you that's temporary."

"I'm sure it is," replies Lance, "Mr. Confirmed Bachelor."

"Oh that's it, you asked for it," replies Chris as he grabs a pillow from the sofa and attacks Lance with it.

Lance quickly starts to defend himself with a pillow of his own, and Justin joins in to help out his husband. JC who decides that despite this being somewhat childish, it's not fair that Lance and Justin have teamed up against Chris in this pillow fight, so he quickly grabs a pillow and joins in. The four guys continue to hit each other with the pillows for several minutes, until they all begin getting rather tired.

----

"I do not hate you, Brian, I could never hate you," replies Kevin as he pulls Brian into a hug.

"So, what do you think I should do?"

"Well, if you're serious about calling off the wedding, you should do it asap," replies Kevin, "Don't make the same mistake that I made."

"Same mistake that you made? What do you mean, Kev?"

"Well, Brian, if I tell you something, will you promise that you won't give me any lectures or anything?"

"Of course, Kev, I promise. What's up? What mistake did you make?"

"This one," replies Kevin, as he takes a picture off of his desk and shows it to Brian.

"That's from your wedding, Kev," replies Brian, as he looks at the picture taken on Kevin and Kristin's wedding day, "I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to say here."

"My marrying Kristin was a very big mistake," replies Kevin, bluntly, "It's something that I never should have done, and I regret it now. I've actually considered divorce. Only thing stopping me is the undoubted media attention such an action would get."

"Kevin, I don't understand, I thought you loved Kristin?"

"I do, in a platonic brotherly way," replies Kevin, "The truth is Brian, I only married Kristin so that I could go on hiding in the closet about my homosexuality."

"Your what?"

"My homosexuality, Brian, I'm gay."

"Well, I suppose I'd be a hypocrite if I told you that that was wrong, considering that I have similar feelings," replies Brian, "But, why didn't you tell anyone? How long have you known anyway?"

"I didn't tell anyone for the same reason that you probably didn't," replies Kevin, "Fear of rejection by loved ones and friends. To answer your second question, I've known since I was 17 years old, I've just never really wanted to accept it."

"Well, I'm a little shocked I guess," replies Brian, "But I obviously have no problems with it. Though I have the feeling that the rest of our family will probably have big problems with your homosexuality and my bisexuality."

"Oh, that's a given," replies Kevin, "Remember we've been taught practically since birth how wrong it is."

"So, Bri, who is this man that your in love with?"

"James Lance Bass."

"NSYNC's Lance, huh? Well, I don't blame you cuz, he's quite the hottie."

"That he is," replies Brian, "So do you have any guys that you like?"

"There is one, that I'm head over heels in love with," replies Kevin, "And I have been in love with for quite some time now."

"Who?"

"Nick."

"Our Nick?"

"Yes, Brian, I'm in love with Nick," replies Kevin, as he gets the laminated photo of Nick from the compartment under his desk and shows it to Brian, "I had to look at this on my wedding night while Kristin was changing into some lingerie just so that I could keep a hard-on. I'm telling you now Brian, I really, really hated making love to Kristin, I was actually crying while doing it because it broke my heart so much to not be sharing my first time with Nick.

"So, Brian, all I can say is if you've got any doubts whatsoever if you can be happy with Leighanne, especially since you love some one more then her, a person with whom we will soon be spending a lot of time, I suggest that you do call of your wedding."

"Yes, you're right, Kevin. I can't marry Leigh if I have feelings for someone else. As for you, Kevin, I think you should end this sham of a marriage very soon. The longer you stay in it, the more painful it will be."

"Yes, that's true, Brian," replies Kevin as he goes over to his desk, "In fact, I'm going to call my lawyer right now and ask him to draw up the divorce papers."

To be continued...

Well, I hope that you enjoyed the second chapter of The Perfect Couple. I will try to get another installment out as soon as possible. However, I of course have to work on some of my other series as well, such as Nick and Brian, Affairs of the Heart, and a new yet to be posted series which is in the developmental stages at the moment entitled, Like an Angel from Above. Until next time, stay *NSYNC.
