I've heard Eexodus tell me I should try a boy band story for sooooooo long I figured I'd give it a try. So here it is. All comments welcomed and greatly appreciated. This one's for you E! I'm going to try and write this story from Jeff's perspective as much as possible, but obviously that isn't going to be possible all the time. These first few chapters are just a setup, so don't expect sex and romance after the first three paragraphs. All I ask is that you bear with me while I set things up. Scoop ____________________________________________________________________________ Chapter 1 - By The Hands of Justice "You ready Jeff?" I took a deep breath. "I think so dad. I've been waiting for this day for a year and a half now, pointless to get nervous now." "Hard to believe it's been that long. You're still so young." I turned around and looked at my father. He had this goofy smile on his face, that I'd only seen once before when he married my stepmom. I think it was joy, with a little bit of pride thrown in with it. "I'm 20 dad. I'm old enough to - " "I know son. And yes, you are old enough to get married. I just want to make sure you're ready for this. All I want is for you to be happy." "And I am happy dad. I'm getting married and all my years of work finally paid off with my career. I couldn't be happier." Dad smiled at me and squeezed my shoulder, then straightened my bow tie. "I'm proud of you son. This is your day, and I want you to enjoy it." "Trust me, I will. As soon as Brad shows up that is." "Yes, I wish he'd get here already. I hate it when he's late like this Jeff." I had to laugh at my father's impatience. "Don't worry dad, he'll be here. Brad hasn't let me down yet." "I know son. And I want the two of you to be happy. If you ever have any trouble with him - " I laughed. "Dad, please. All the times you've seen Brad and all the times we've been together: have I complained once?" "No, you haven't. I know, I'm worrying too much. But you're my only son - my only child - and I don't want anything bad to happen to you. I know I haven't been the best father - " "Say what? Dad, you've been a great father, what are you talking about?" "I just thought that after how bad things have been between me and your mother over the last 10 years and how I've always been away at work and never there for you that... Well, I just don't think I did that good a job." I placed my hands on my father's shoulders and looked at him for a bit. He was putting on a little weight which was evident by his too tight suit, and his gray hair was thinning, but he was still the man that I had grown up to admire. "Dad, I think you did a great job. I'm 20 years old, I've got a career starting up, and I'm getting married to the man of my dreams. What more could you ask for?" Dad chuckled. "Grandchildren?" I hugged him and felt his arms wrap around me as he hugged me back. "Ya never know dad. Ya never know." There was a knock at the door. Dad released me from the hug and went to answer it. When he opened it, Carl, Brad's best man, walked in. "Hi Carl, Brad here?" Carl's face was pale and his eyes were wide. I had this sudden sickness come over me. I have always been able to read a situation from the look on Carl's face, and I didn't like this one. "What's wrong Carl?" Obviously dad could see it as well. "There's been an accident." I sat down on the chair behind me. "What do you mean accident Carl?" "The police were chasing someone through the streets at high speed. The car they were chasing... ran a red light at an intersection. Brad's car was coming through the intersection and... and got hit." Carl's face was wet with tears, as was mine, even though I didn't know all the details. "Carl, how's Brad?" Dad was being the rock that I had always counted on. "The car was hit hard. It rolled several times." "How's Brad?" "The police say it was really beat up... couldn't tell what kind of car it was." "Carl?" "Could barely tell the color from all the blood." My father walked up to Carl and grabbed his arms. He shook him a few times as he yelled. "Damn it Carl! Tell me what happened to Brad!" Carl looked at my father, back at me, then at my father again. "He's... he's dead, Bill. He didn't survive the accident." I heard a loud, bloodcurdling scream and realized it was from me. I fell onto my knees, no strength to hold myself up in the chair. My head was spinning and I couldn't see. My arms started to shake and my throat closed. I couldn't breath! I gasped for air, but found none. Then, suddenly, my throat freed itself from the death grasp and I had time for one quick breath before I threw up. That's all I can remember before I passed out... Chapter 2 - He Said What? "So where's the new opening act? Weren't they supposed to be here by now?" "Actually I just got a call from management, they're en route but they're going to be a few minutes late." "Christ, I hate meetings that get dragged on for too long. As if we don't have to go to enough of them as it is!" "I know Nick, but maybe you should calm down a bit. Getting excited isn't going to get them here any faster." Nick sighed and folded his arms across his chest. "Yeah Bri, I know. But I'm just not in the mood to wait today. I barely got any sleep last night. " "You'd think after the last few years he would have grwon some patients," joked Howie. "Lord knows he's grown every other way." Everyone laughed, including Nick who had to chuckle. Just then there was a knock on the meeting room door. "I got it," said Kevin as he went to open the door. When he did, in walked four young men, all in their early twenties. "I guess you guys are O R L?" I looked at Kevin hard, not having a clue what he was talking about. "Excuse me?" "Um, aren't you guys our new opening act?" "Yeah." "Oh. I guess we must have been misinformed. We were told that the name of the band was O R L." Scott, Chris, and Dale were trying hard not to laugh. "That is how you spell it, yeah." "You mean it's a word?" Brian looked about as confused as he sounded. "Actually, yes," replied Scott. All of a sudden AJ burst out laughing. The rest of the Backstreet Boys stared at him not knowing what he was getting on with. Myself and my bandmates just shared an evil grin amongst ourselves. "AJ, what are you laughing at?" "Don't you get it Brian? It's the name of the band, I love it!" "Huh?" "Oh come on Howie, it isn't that hard to understand, hahahahahaha. O R L! It's a fractured spelling of oral. Their name is Oral! Damn, that is raunchy... I love it!" The rest of the guys caught on and the looks on their faces betrayed their thoughts. Nick and Kevin were laughing hysterically almost instantly after AJ clued them in. Howie was kinda unsure of what to think, while Brian turned bright red and lowered his head. "I guess they like it," said Chris with a grin. "It's cool!" said Nick and AJ together, which got them laughing even more. After another minute or so, things calmed down enough for Kevin to begin the meeting. "OK, I guess we should do introductions. I'm Kevin, this is Brian, Nick, Howie, and AJ." Kevin pointed at each of the guys as he introduced them, as if the four of us didn't know who they were. We practically had to blow our management to get them to give us this opportunity: we knew who they were! They all said 'hi' and gave us a little wave or nod. "And I take it you're Jeff?" "Yeah that's me," I replied. Kevin reached out his hand and I took it, shaking it with a firm grip. I turned and indicated my band. "That's Scott with the cuff on his ear, Dale is Mr. bleach blonde, heheheh, and Chris is the one with the nose ring." After more annoying greetings Kevin clapped his hands and rubbed them together. I immediately got this 'Mr. Business' attitude from him that I knew would rot me before long. "With that out of the way, let's get down to business." (See? Told you!) "If you guys would take a seat?" The four of us sat down and I immediately got that interrogation feeling. The four of us were on one side of the table, with the Backstreet Boys sitting across from us. I went on guard automatically, waiting for them to try and control things. "Basically, what's going to happen is that you guys will be with us on our US and Canadian tour, and if things work out, for some European dates. Some of the venues over there like to use their own local talent for opening acts." "Uh huh. If things work out. I guess that's a polite way of saying if we aren't tired of you guys." I sat up perfectly straight in my chair, as did Scott, Chris, and Dale. This was our standard 'you don't run things' approach that we've used with management more than once. "Um, uh, I. We uh, um." Kevin was speechless: Bingo! "You see Kevin, I, that is to say, we, don't like to beat around the bush. We want you guys to be honest with us at all times. If you have something to say, don't use smoke and mirrors just come right out and tell us. It makes things that much easier in the long run." "O - OK." "Great." "So you want brutal honesty?" "Don't go getting nit picky about it of course. But yeah, Brian, we would like complete honesty." "In that case let me start the process by telling you that I honestly don't like you guys at this point." I looked at my three amigos and we all smiled. "Excellent! Brian has the idea. I can see we'll get along just fine, BRok." Brian looked at me with a cold, measured stare. I smiled back at him and continued. "And while we're on the subject of honesty, let's get a few more things clear. We tell each other about every situation that arises," I pointed at the four of us as I spoke, "no matter how small. That includes our social lives, love lives if and when anything we do could have an effect on the group, and our personal lives, under the same conditions." "In other words," picked up Scott, "we know everything about each other that is important enough to mention." "Exactly," chimed in Dale. "Which means we're going to be honest with you," finished Scott. "Starting now," added Chris. "I'm gay. Have been since I was conceived. I'm single, and horny. So don't be surprised if after a night of clubbing you see me heading up to my room with some guy. I have no problems with my being gay, however I don't make it public knowledge, especially now that we're working with such a high profile group. We do have enough respect for you guys not to draw any negative attention. "We also like to smoke a joint or two every now and then, as well as down a few beers. If that's a problem, let us know now." "No problem," said AJ quickly, "it won't be our first exposure to it." He grinned slyly. "Yeah," said Kevin with a chuckle. At this point I could swear I heard Brain growl. I was going to have such a good time getting to know him. I looked over at Nick to see he was staring at me with a big grin on his face. I had a feeling I knew what it meant, but I didn't say anything. "I'm engaged to be married. My fiancee comes with me quite often when we're on the road. She's a nice girl and I hope you guys all get to know her, just not intimately. Last guy that tried to fuck my fiancee is still eating through a straw." Scott finished his statement with a little wink towards Howie, then laughed. Howie realized he was joking and laughed as well. "What about the two of you? Any fiancées? Any habits we can share?" AJ grinned and sat back in his chair. "Nope." "Notta." "Damn!" "Anything else?" asked Brian sharply. "Now that you mention it yeah. In case it ever comes up, although it shouldn't, about a year ago I was supposed to get married to a really great guy. It didn't happen." "Why not?" I looked over to see where the new voice in the conversation was coming from. Big surprise, it was Nick. "My fiancee was killed on the way to the church by a speeding car that was running from the police. He was only two blocks from the church where I was waiting with my father and 200 guests." "Oh god. I'm so sorry to hear that," said Nick with honest sorrow in his voice A round of 'Me too's came from the remaining four. "Thanks Nick, but that was twelve months ago. I've moved on." "Humph." "My sentiments exactly Brian." There was an awkward silence as Brian and I stared at each other. "So does anyone have any problems with me being gay? If so, let me know so we can end this before it turns ugly." They all shook their heads no, including Brian, who was actually the reason that I asked the question. For some reason I respect him more than the others so far. Well... except for AJ. "Actually I'm gay myself." I knew it! There had to be a reason Nick was looking at me like that. "Nick!" "Well Brian they were honest with us. What's the big deal?" "No big deal. I was just surprised to hear you just say it out loud like that is all." The table fell silent again for what felt like a minute. "Well," said Kevin finally, "that's enough for today I think. Maybe we should set up another meeting for tomorrow." "Kevin, what's the point of these meetings?" "Um, well Jeff I just assumed that it would help if we got to know each other and go through the routine. We are going to be traveling and working and staying at hotels together. Might be nice if we had the ice broken before we hit the road." "Makes sense, but don't you think things will progress more smoothly if we just let it fly. Meetings make contact so forced and formal. If we start our working relationship with nothing but meetings, it might stay just that: a working relationship. There's a good chance none of us will really get to know each other." Kevin thought about what I said for a few seconds. "OK, sounds well thought out. What do you propose?" "Well the easiest way I can think of for us to get to know each other is to go out as a group and hit the night life. Let's go clubbing!" "Oh yeah!" said AJ and Nick together, again. "I'm with that!" Said Howie. My three buds were all nodding their heads in agreement. "Sounds like a plan then," said Kevin. "Cool. We'd like a little time to settle in to our hotel rooms first though. Our flight was delayed and we just had time to drop off our bags and haul ass over here." "No problem. We're all on the same floor so it will be no trouble getting everyone together." I stood up and extended my hand to Kevin. He stood and grasped it firmly in his own. "I think it's going to be great working for you guys. We're really glad to get the opportunity." I smiled and Kevin returned it with one of his own. "Should be interesting," he replied. We all headed out through the door. I stayed till last so that I could shake hands with each member of the Backstreet Boys as they passed. When Brian's turn came, he hesitated, but then held out his hand which I shook. I gave him a little smile which he ever so slightly reciprocated. As I expected Nick was the last one left in the room with me. "I think we're going to have a great time!" "You never know Nicky, you never know." He extended his hand and I took it. He quickly cupped his other hand over mine and nearly shook my arm off. He released me and headed out the door, a smile ever present on his face. I rolled my eyes and sighed, but it ended up coming out more like a giggle than anything else. I had to give the kid credit: he was cute. He'll make a great lay I thought to myself as I turned off the lights and closed the door behind me. ________________________________________________________________________________ I am Scoop, hear me type. That's the beginning. Chapter 3 is where the REAL action starts. If you like, let me know. If you still don't know what to think, let me know. If you thought it was a waste of time for you to read, let me know, I'll see what I can do. This story will need feedback to grow and improve (mind you the plot is already set. I can try to adjust if for y'all though). PEACE
