I shook my head groggily. "Cad e sin?" "Huh?" I heard the person next to me ask, just as groggily. "What's that?" I asked again, this time in English. "I think that's my cell phone," Justin groaned. He reached for his jeans on the floor and fished his phone out from his pocket. "Hello?" he asked. The returning voice was screaming so loudly that even I could hear it. "Justin, where the hell are you!" Justin held his phone a few inches away from his ear while the screaming voice continued. "We've been so worried. We called and called and called, and you didn't answer." "Sorry JC," Justin said loudly. I shot a worried look to the door, hoping my sister had left for home. "Sorry? SORRY?!" JC's voice was louder. Justin pulled the phone another two inches away. "WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?!" "Ugh," Justin repied, not really answering. "What time is it?" "IT'S FIVE IN THE AFTERNOON! YOU'VE BEEN GONE FOR ALMOST TWENTY-FOUR HOURS!!" JC screamed, showing no signs of slowing down. I guess it must be because of all the singing practice and concerts. Either that or he had natural endurance and volume, and put it to good use in the concerts. "What?" Justin's eyes shot open. "I've been gone for so long?" "Oh duh," JC said. "What have you been doing, sleeping the whole day?" "Yeah," Justin said. "That describes what I've been doing, all right." "Don't be funny with me, kiddo," JC said. He must have calmed down because I could not hear him anymore. Justin put his phone next to his ear. He talked for a little while, and promised that he would go back home by four tomorrow afternoon. He said his goodbyes and hung up, then snuggled next to me again in the bed. "This is the longest date I've ever had," he joked. "It's certainly been the most enjoyable and interesting one I've ever had," I laughed. Justin gave me a sexy smile (yes, smiles can be sexy, especially if they are his). "I'm the best of the whole lot of people you've dated, huh?" he asked happily. "You could say that," I grinned. "Since you're the 'whole lot'." His eyes widened in shock. "You mean this is the first time you've ever dated?" "Yup," I said. He blinked a few times, then shook his head. "You're kidding, right?" "Nope," I said. He made a face and nodded. "That means you've never been given a 'real' kiss," he noted. "Even if I had dated, I doubt I'd have received a 'real' kiss anyway," I said. "Call me stuffy, but I'm really careful about relationships. Very, very careful. Which is probably why I never had a real one until now." "Aww," Justin cooed. "So I'm a real one now, huh?" "Yup," I grinned. "Don't let it go to your head, though." "Too late," Justin said, grinning like an idiot. "I'm on cloud eight." "Eight?" I asked. "Wasn't it nine?" "Yeah, but I can't be on cloud nine if we're just dating," Justin said. "I lie awake and I drive myself crazy, drive myself crazy, thinking of you." "Okay, when you sing your own songs it comes off pretty weird," I teased. Justin snapped his fingers. "Damn, was this close to scoring." "Dream on," I laughed, grabbing my pillow and whacking Justin's head. "Hey ow, that hurt," he said, grabbing the spare pillow and attacking me back. I retaliated to his attack and soon we were in a full blown pillow fight. I managed to hold Justin down and smother him with my blanket while hitting him with my pillow. My door burst open suddenly, and both Justin and I stopped moving. "Dylan Caoilte Filan, aren't you even going to say 'bye' to your sister?" Rachel shouted angrily. She looked at me kneeling behind a large bump on my bed, a pillow in my hands, wearing a tank top and shorts. "What are you doing?" she asked. "I'm, err, arranging my bed," I said lamely. She rolled her eyes. "Ta tu ar buille," she said. I glared at her. "Slan," I said. "Aren't you even going to walk me to the door?" she growled. "Ta me tuirseach," I replied. "Go hifreann leat," she said, storming out of the room and slamming the door. Justin pulled the covers back a bit. "Is it safe?" he asked comically. "Yup, she's gone," I said. "Until the next sleepover. But you might not be here then." "Good," he laughed. "What were you speaking just now?" "Irish," I said. "Didn't I tell you? I was born there, and lived there until I was seven. Melvin and I were neighbours then, and even now. It was like our families followed each other across the world." "So you, Melvin and Rachel speak Irish?" he said. "Way cool. What did you say?" "I said bye, and that I was tired," I said. "Then she said 'to hell with you' and left. Before that, she said I was crazy." "Okay, the whole conversation sounded better than it meant," he laughed. "Can you teach me to say 'I love you' in Irish?" "Ta gra agam duit," I said. "Ta what ditch?" Justin asked, confused. "Maybe you should spell it out, I might catch it." "I doubt that," I laughed. "It's written very differently from English." "Okay," he pouted. "I guess I'll just have to ask Melvin to teach me some choice words and surprise you." "That would certainly make things interesting," I laughed. "Weirdness." "I just thought of something," Justin said. I looked at him quizzically. "I've seen how you eat. Won't everyone be suspicious as to why you've only come down for one meal?" "Oh, I forgot about that," I said, making a face. "I wasn't hungry until you mentioned it." Justin rolled his eyes. "Just great, now you're going to leave me here to go and eat, and bring back leftovers again." "Nope," I said. "You can come down and eat too. Faith and Jimmy will probably be in their room. I'm pretty sure Leon and Diane have gone with Rachel to the doorstep of my parents' house, and Brian and Edwin won't come back until Diane tells them it's safe, so the only people left will be my friends." "And what if the other four people come home while I'm still downstairs?" Justin asked. "Well, Leon is the only homophobe, but he'll be quiet when Brian tells him to," I said. "And why is that?" Justin asked. I laughed. "Brian weighs around two hundred pounds." "Oh," Justin said. "Well, that makes a whole lot of difference." "Come on, get dressed," I said. "Let's go eat." "Okay, I think I'm full," I said, patting my stomach. "You think?" Justin said sarcastically. "I'm surprised that you even got that much food down." "What?" I said defensively. "I only had pasta, some pizza and mashed potatoes. And some desert." "When you say it that way, it sounds normal. But it's nowhere near true," Justin said. "More like four servings of pasta, two *whole* large pizzas, and six servings of mashed potatoes. And I hardly think that two pumpkin pies count as one desert." "Hey, you had some food too," I said lamely. "Yeah," Justin said. "One scoop of mashed potatoes, a serving of pasta, and a slice of pie. I didn't even get to touch the pizza." "Well, at least you know that an all-you-can-eat buffet dinner makes the best date for me," I laughed. Justin rolled his eyes. I heard the sounds of the Playstation in the living room stop, and Reuben, Melvin and Joy came into the kitchen. "Water break," Melvin said, answering my unasked question. "What game are you playing?" I asked. "Rival Schools," Reuben said. "I won." "Of course. You cheated," Joy said, faking anger. "And how exactly?" Reuben asked. "Well, you fought a girl," Joy said. "And a first-timer girl at that." "Melvin's no first-timer," I said quickly. Melvin's face turned red as he blushed. He shot me an angry look, then went on drinking water from a glass. "Well, if you want to play, the machine's free," Reuben said. "Just go easy on Justin, though. Otherwise he won't stand a chance." "Yeah, I'm not ever going to play with Dylan," Joy laughed. "I can't win Reuben, and he's no match for you at all on Rival Schools." "How about Melvin?" I winked as I spoke. Melvin shot me a dirty look, and I guessed Joy's answer before she said, "Melvin? There's no challenge with Melvin. He just isn't cut out for these type of games." "You won him?" I grinned. Joy smiled. "Of course! Who can't?" "Hey, I was gave you chances," Melvin argued. "Riiiiiiight," Joy rolled her eyes. "And screaming 'oh shit, oh shit, how do I control this freaking thing?' shows how well you play the game." "Pog ma thoin," Melvin growled. "Maelbhin, tog bog e," I said, glaring at him. He stared grumpily at me, then stormed off. "What's up with him? I hate it whenever one of you guys gets angry, you keep speaking in Irish" Joy asked. "What did he say? What did you say?" "He's upset," I said. "I guess we teased him too much. He pretty much told you to kiss his ass. I told him to take it easy, but he's still upset." "Should I go talk to him?" Joy asked. I shook my head. "Let him have some time," I said. "I'll talk to him later when he's cooled down." Joy nodded. Justin looked at me. "So are you going to teach me this game or what?" I smiled and led him to the living room to play. I introduced him to the game, which was about students from different schools fighting each other because they suspected each other of attacking their rival schools, and later the found out it was the teachers of Justice High who were behind the attacks. We played the dual game, and I taught Justin the basics of playing. He picked them up quite fast. I was playing with Shoma and Nagare, a basball player and swimmer from Gorin High School. Justin took Roy and Batsu from Pacific and Taiyo High respectively. "They're cute," he explained. I just rolled my eyes. Joy and Reuben came to watch us play. We started, and I went easy on Justin. He must have played a lot of fighting games because he played really well, and almost beat me a few times. Reuben was amazed too, since he is the second best of us, and Justin was almost his equal. We were playing for a long time, and joking with each other that we did not notice the front door opening. "Well, if it isn't the losers," I heard a familiar, hated voice. I ignored it and continued playing. Justin took a quick glance at me, and ignored the voice too. "Are you playing that stupid game again?" Leon asked. "That's the dumbest game in the world. Only losers play it." "Leave them alone, Leon," I recognised Brian's deep voice. "Yeah, they didn't do anything to you," Edwin said. Leon gave them cold stares, then stormed upstairs. I briefly imagined him irritating Melvin, and smiled at the obvious outcome. Melvin could have taken on Brian and won if he was angry enough, and he did not get angry easily. In this state, a wrong move on Leon's part could land him with some broken bones. I must have thought for too long because Justin waved his hand in front of my eyes. "Huh?" I said. Justin laughed. "I was beating you up and wondered why you weren't fighting back." "Oh, oops," I said, blushing. Brian laughed at me. Both he and Edwin had brown hair and eyes, but while Brian was round, Edwin was like a stick. They were both about Reuben's height, and that made Brian quite intimidating to most people. "Hey, aren't you that Justin fellow from Nsync?" Edwin said suddenly, pointing. "Yeah, I am," Justin said cautiously. "Cool, nice to meet you," Edwin said, holding his hand out. Justin shook his hand, then Brian's. "That's Brian, and that's Edwin," I said, pointing them out. "Hi," Justin said. Figuring it was rude to have a conversation with the Playstation on, I switched it off. Brian and Edwin took seats on the couch next to Reuben and Joy. "Hurricane Rachel passed, huh?" Edwin said. Joy rolled her eyes. "It was terrible." "What did she say when she saw Justin?" Brian laughed. "She hates boybands with a vengeance. To her, they're worse than gay people." "Well, she didn't see me, and I didn't see her," Justin said. Brian's eyes widened in amazement. "You're lucky," he said. "What were you doing, hiding under the bed?" "Err, not quite," Justin laughed, winking at me. Reuben caught the wink and pretended to puke. "Oh, Reuben, your sister called," Edwin said. "She said that she could help get you a drummer for the tour if you wanted." "Oh sheesh," Reuben complained. "My mom and sis like to meddle in in my life. Maybe that's why I'm staying here." "Well, if you need a drummer, I'm always here," Edwin said, pointing to himself. I looked at Joy, and she winced, remembering our conversation. Reuben looked slightly worried too. "We may not need a drummer after all," Reuben said. Edwin looked disappointed. Brian looked at all of us, and must have caught us trying to hide guilty looks. He closed his eyes for a moment, which he does when he's thinking hard about something. He's very smart, and he got the answer in no time. "Wait," he said, opening his eyes. "You guys thought of this before, right?" "Yeah," I said. "Thought of the possible outcomes. Not pretty." "Worried about Leon and Rachel coming along," he surmised. Reuben, Joy and I gave guilty nods. Brian laughed. "Well, Edwin and I told your sister that we'd help you out with the drums and bass guitar," Brian said to Reuben. "So it's too late." "Oh no," I groaned. "Rachel AND Leon on tour. I'd rather die." Brian laughed again, and got an evil glint in his eyes. I noticed it and smacked my forehead with my palm. "You already thought about it too," I accused him. He nodded. "We agreed that we'd join you guys on tour and help you out. But Leon's not coming with us." "He's not?" I asked happily. "Nope, and he won't know until it's too late," Edwin said. "He's too nasty and hates being versatile. He won't ever play your kind of music. Plus he's temperamental, and a few times, he'll just dump his guitar and walk out of a jamming session. It's irritating." "So you guys planned everything already?" I asked. Edwin and Brian nodded. "We're thinking of getting Diane for vocals because she sings well," Edwin said. "We even came up with a list of songs that we could play, that would still include your instruments and singing styles. We thought of everything." "When exactly was this?" I asked. I looked at Joy and Reuben, and they were on the verge of laughter. "You two knew it all along!" I shouted. "Yeah, we wanted to surprise you," Joy said, her eyes twinkling. "And why wasn't I consulted?" I asked. "Because you were sleeping the whole day long," Reuben said. "Edwin went to call you, but he said you were sleeping, then called us over." "Wait," Justin panicked. "You mean you saw the two of us sleeping together? We didn't do anything, just sleep. Don't tell anyone! Oh no, what if you already did." "Don't worry," Brian said. "We're keeping quiet. Besides, you two look good together." "Thanks, I think," I said. Justin breathed a sigh of relief. "We still have to check with Nsync's management about bringing three extra people," I said. "Aren't we supposed to meet them or something?" "I'm not sure," Reuben said. "So what songs have you lined up?" I asked. "We took a bunch of songs that can be sung by either guys or girls, or rotated," Brian said. "So Diane and Joy can sing too. And since you and Melvin are Irish, and I'm half Irish, we decided to pick a whole lot of songs of Irish groups." "We've got B*Witched, Westlife and Boyzone songs, most of which can be handled by you and Melvin," Reuben said. "We also took some songs from Mero, and the songs from Josie and the Pussycats. We picked songs that could be sung by you and Melvin without making it seem like you two are girls or something." "And how about Diane?" I asked. "What will she do if she's not singing?" "She'll be playing the acoustic guitar," Brian said. "Bet'cha didn't know she could play." "You're right, I didn't," I said. "Cool, this is going to be interesting. Did anyone write down the songs?" "Yeah, Melvin has them in his room," Reuben said. "The only problem is the meeting with management. There's been no news from them at all." "Oh shit," Justin said. "What's the time now?" Brian checked his watch. "Six thirty." "We have meeting with the management tonight," Justin said. "What time?" I asked. "In half an hour," Justin said, standing up. Everyone groaned. Justin raised his hand defensively. "Hey, people forget things sometimes. That's why JC called this afternoon." "Just great," I said. "Luckily we have four bathrooms. Three upstairs and one down here." "Yeah, and eight people to use them," Brian said. "Who's taking the one down here? Oh heck, Reuben and I will take it." "No one take longer than ten minutes," Reuben said, jumping up. "If we hurry, we'll all be there a few minutes late." "Okay, I'll tell Melvin," I said. "Hurry, people! Where's Diane?" "I'll tell her," Edwin said. "She's in her room. Your mom picked your sis up, so they didn't need to bring her home." We rushed upstairs, and I told Melvin about the whole situation. He rolled his eyes and said he would be ready. I remembered that I had not picked my clothes from the laundromat yet, so I borrowed some of Melvin's clothes again. Reuben offered Justin some of his clothes too. I was about to walk into the shower when Justin walked up behind me and put his arms around my waist. "Wanna shower together?" he whispered into my ear. "Nah," I said. "Maybe when we know each other better. Like I said, I'm a cautious, especially since this is my first relationship." "Okay, I understand," Justin said. He squeezed me before letting go, and I rushed to the bathroom. Everyone rushed through everything, and we were ready in about twenty minutes. "How are we going to get there?" I asked. Justin smiled. "No problem," he said. "I managed to get a limo while you were still in the bathroom. It should be here soon." "Heh," Edwin laughed. "He gets limos like we get taxis." "About time," Chris said, looking up as we walked into the room. I saw JC and Joey and two people I didn't recognise sitting around. "Where's Lance?" Justin asked. "On the way," JC replied, looking up. "Who are all these people?" "I'm here, I'm here," Lance said, running into the room. "Sorry, I got caught in traffic." "Okay, shall we begin?" a woman in a suit asked. I sat next to Justin while everyone took their seats, and the meeting began. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ To be continued... How did you like it?
