Date: Tue, 4 Jan 2000 20:25:22 EST From: SkiFree0300@aol.com Subject: To Be Loved By Fame, Part 6 How is everyone? This is the sixth chapter of To Be Loved By Fame, and I hope you all enjoy it. Oh, and Nick and Devon get back together in this chapter, so don't worry, ya'll. This in no way, is anything about the Backstreet Boys. This whole story is a complete fantasy and work of fiction. TO BE LOVED BY FAME (CHAPTER 6) I couldn't believe what I heard him say. I looked at him with a disbeleiving face, and just walked out. I picked up my bags, and told the driver to stop the bus so I could get out. "Devon, where are you going?" Brian asked. I just shook my head, and exited the bus, quickly disappearing into the crowd. Remembering that Sheri still had a hotel room here and wouldn't be leaving for home for a few days, I walked slowly back to the hotel, and up to her room. I knocked on the door, and when she answered, I just collapsed into her arms. "S-Sheri, he dumped me," I said looking as depressed as possible. "Th-That FAG. If I EVER see him again, I'll punch his pretty-boy face in," she snarled. "P-please Sheri, stop. Somebody saw the engagement ring, and he was freaked. I guess this was the best for both of us," I said. "Of course it wasn't. I think you need some rest, and then you guys should talk about it," Sheri said in her motherly tone. She sat me on the couch and wrapped me in a blanket. I fell asleep withing seconds. (Back in the Bus) Nick sat on his bed just looking at the spot that Devon had just vacated. How could I be so dumb, he thought to himself. I just dumped the cutest, most caring and wonderful individual in the whole world. Nick broke down crying quietly again. (In the Hotel) Sheri left for the studio, so I walked around and found the liquor cabinet. I drank just about everything there, and was so completely drunk, that I walked out onto the balcony. I looked at the street 3 floors down, and lifted one leg over the railing. Then the other. I stood with my back pressed into the iron grill. Goodbye, I thought, and released my hands. Millions of pictures of me with Nick flashed through my head as I plunged towards the street. Suddeny, a sharp pain ran through my body and everything went black. (Back in the Bus) Nick's eyes were red, and he stumbled out into the lounge. "Nick, how could you," everyone said at once. "I-I wasn't thinking," Nick mumbled. "Damn straight you wren't. YOU just let go of the most wonderul person I have known in my life. You won't find a bunch of guys as nice as Devone around quickly to take his place," Brian said narrowing his eyes at Nick. "B-Brian, I'm so sorry," Nick said, and collapsed into tears. Quickly, the boys surrounded him and comforted him. Howie, on the other hand, was staring at the screen of the T.V. "LOOK AT THIS NOW EVERYONE," he shouted pointing at the screen. Carson Daly was standing in front of a picture of the front of the Hyatt hotel which was roped off by yellow police lines, and crowds grouped around it. The sirens of police cars and ambulances filled the air. . . . . "Devon Michael Anderson, a rising Hollywood Star and declared the "Sexiest Guy in America" according to a vote sponsered by Tean Beet Magazine last month, who was a main character in the popular T.V. show 7th Heaven, and would have played the boy "Nicholas" in the upcoming movie "To Die For", did just that in an apparent suicide attempt outside his best friend Sheri's hotel room in San Fransisco. Sheri made references to just being dumped by his now ex-girlfriend, and referred to him being in a state of shock most of the day. No weapons were found at the scene, and murder is not suspected. The alcohol kept in a cabinet in the room was mostly gone, so Devon was most likely in a stupor when he jumped from the third floor hotel balconey. Devon is in intensive care, for damage to his ribs, arms, and a very bad case of internal bleeding. Will he be around tommorow? We don't know. Doctor's say he has a below 15% survival chance but they can't place the exact number yet. . . . . . The T.V. screen showed Devon's body being lifted onto a stretcher, blood was everywhere, and the ring was still on his finger. Nick arose from his place on the floor, and touched Devon's face on the screen, before breaking down into sobs again. "Driver, DRIVER. Get us to the San Fransisco Medi-Center ER, NOW," Brian yelled. "NO, No, I can't face him. How can I look him in the eye," Nick said looking at each of the guys. "YOU HAVE NO CHOICE YOU FUCKING ASSHOLE. WE'RE GOING NOW AND YOU ARE GOING TO GO BACK OUT WITH HIM UNLESS HE'S ALREADY DEAD," Kevin yelled so that everyone looked at him with disbelieving eyes. "Nick, you practically killed Devon yourself, and now you refuse to visit him in the hospital when he's dying?" Kevin said. He turned and stalked to his bunk, slamming his door shut. (At the Hotel) "Devon, Devon, can you hear me?" Sheri said. I could barely hear Sheri, and the world was swimming into view. "S-Sheri. What happened," I said looking weakly up at her. "Oh Devon, you jumped off the balcony of my hotel room. OHHH, how could I have left you alone in the state you were in," Sheri started crying. "S-Sheri. N-Nick. I need him before I die," I said weakly. "NO DEVON, you won't die. You'll get better and then you can-," Sheri started to cry again. "S-Sheri. Don't. Get the ring. P-please," I said. Sheri disappeared down the hall. She returned with all the jewlry I was wearing. My ring, the chain, and my watch. I turned to her, took the ring, and slipped it on my ring finger. "I love you Nick," I said as I saw blackness come into view. "I l-love you," I repeated as I looked at the engagement ring on my finger. "Devon, DEVON, baby, wake up please, look at me," I heard Nick yell. "N-Nick? Hold my hand," I said in barely a whisper. Nick walked to my bed and lifted my hand. He noticed the ring was still on my finger. "D-Devon, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done it. Please please forgive me. I love you, and you know that," he said. The world came back into view, and I saw Nick's gorgeous face above me, his perfect golden locks falling into his deep blue eyes. I reached up and brushed the hair from his face. It took every bit of energy I had left. "N-Nick, why? WHY," I asked him tears coursing down my cheeks. "You've taken everything I had and destroyed it. Why?" I said staring up at him. Just then, the doctor's came in, and everyone had to leave. Nick lingered, holding my hand. I felt myself go limp, and my hand dangled down the side of the bed, and I closed my eyes, never knowing this kind of peace before. I travelled slowly into the darkness, and dropped into a peaceful sleep. "What have I done," Nick said softly, pulling his hair in the hall outside Devon's room. "Well, plenty," Sheri said shooting him an I Hate You look. A Doctor came out into the hall, and sat next to Nick, Sheri, and the guys. "Well, your friend is doing very much better than we thought. The internal bleeding has been sealed, and the ribs reset. Thank goodness ther was no damage to the lungs. Now, which of you is Mr. Nick Carter," the doctor asked. Nick slowly raised his hand. "Mr. Anderson would like to see you in there, alone," the doctor said. Nick slowly turned and walked in. I lay on the bed staring at the ceiling when Nick came in. "Nick, I'm going to pull through physically, but I'm not sure if I'll ever be the same mentally," I said grimly. "Devon, all I want is for us to be back together. So much has happened, and our relationship is moving forward way too fast," Nick said, tears starting to fall on the bed. "Nick, I'll always love you, you know that, don't you?" I said. "Oh Dev, how can I ever repay you," Nick said looking deeply at me. "How about a kiss for starters," I said cracking a small smile. Nick leaned down and kissed me on the mouth, pushing his tounge into my mouth. "Jeez Nick, I miss your scent, your taste, your presence, and you've only been gone for a few hours," I said. "Look Dev, we're back together and that's all that matters," Nick said. "Now get some sleep," he said smiling. I looked up at him and smiled as my eyes closed. I couldn't have been happier. Nick looked at the sleeping Devon happily, and kissed him on the forehead, Nick took the chain from the nearby bedstand and lifted Devon's head enough to clasp it around him. "I love you," Nick whispered as he left the room silently. Nick turned and walked out into the hall. "SO. . . ," Sheri said looking dangerously at Nick. Nick shot a smile at the group, and that was all that was needed. Everyone hugged him, especially Sheri. "Nick, I don't know what to say to you," Sheri said. "You almost murdered my best friend, and I hate you for it. However, you made his life-dream come true, and I have never seen him happier. For that, I thank you. "Would everyone please stop acting like I did Devon a favor," Nick said, his intense blue eyes flashing. "Love doesn't happen unless both people want it badly. I need Devon just as much as he needs me, and from my point of view, it's more Devon's favor to me. "Nick, I'm just so happy you feel that way," Sheri said smiling at Nick. "OH, but if you ever dump him again, I'll have to kill you." "Hey guys, let's lighten up. How about goin' clubbin?" A.J. said to us. "Sounds fine," Sheri said taking Brian's hand. "How about it baby," she said. "Sounds fine to me," Brian said kissing Sheri on the forehead. "Well, have a good time guys. I'm just gonna stay here with Devon," Nick said looking at the ground. "Nick, you're so thoughtful," Sheri said smiling. Nick watched as the group disappeared down the hall. Then, he turned and walked back into Devon's room. I was in a dream. I saw angry faces all around me. "That serves you right, faggot," I heard Nick's voice yell in my ear. "Who needs little faggots," I heard a different voice say. People were emerging from the mist with clubs. All of a sudden, they started hitting me all over my body. I screamed for them to stop, but they just kept hitting me harder and harder. Finally, I felt my muscles go limp. I arched my back in pain, and suddenly, I was jerked awake by a hand on my arm. (End of dream) "Dev, Dev, wake up. It's just a dream," Nick said. I looked up and saw Nick's heavenly face above me, and I smiled. "You were yelling "Stop Nick," Nick said looking a little strange. "Was I hurting you," Nick asked. "Well, yes. It was just a dream though," I said looking at him. "I know, but I don't ever want to hurt you ever. Even in your dream," Nick said. "ALRIGHT, what is going on in here," a woman in a white coat said as she bustled in the door. "It's alright doctor, I was just having a bad dream," I said. "Really now? It sounded a lot like someone was raping you," she said as she bustled over and took my temperature. "Well, just try and get some sleep. Mr. Carter, try to leave him alone." After she left, I saw Nick remove all his clothes but his boxers, and felt him slide into the bed next to me. Almost automatically, I slipped my arms around his hard body, and fell asleep. I woke up feeling refreshed, but as I tried to sit up, white-hot pain lanced through my body. I whimpered and lay back, trying to remember what had happened. I cringed again as a sharp pain ran through my back, but altogether, it felt good to be alive. I was suddenly jolted back to reality by a slight tapping noise at the door. "Come in," I said quietly, which took just about all the strength I could muster. Then, I looked down and realized Nick had fallen asleep next to me with hardly any clothes on. "Well, actually, could you wait a moment," I said, but it was too late. "Mr. Anderson, I just came in to check to see if you we-," I heard the doctor stop. "Oh, I'll just come in later," she said, as she turned and left. "Nick, NICK. Wake up," I whispered in his ear. "Oh, hey Dev," he said stretching. "Nick, I'm so glad you came back, but you have a concert today, don't you," I said looking at him. "Devon, I won't leave you alone. I don't know how you're gonna come with me, but I'll find a way," he said kissing me gently on the top of my head. I slowly got out of bed and walked out to get a drink. I was really sore, and my legs hurt, but I could manage. "Wait babe, I'll get it for you," Nick said, quickly grabbing a paper cup and walking out into the hall. I slowly sat back down, and looked at my reflection in the mirror. My hair was really matted, and my eyes which were normally bright, were dimmed. What a fuckup, I thought to myself. I really need a shower. "Dev, here you go. Don't drink it too fast," Nick said in a motherly tone. "Thanks mommy," I said giggling. I looked up at him slowly. "Get me out of here," I said. "W-What?" he asked me. "I said, get me out of here. I know I'm not really recovered, but I can't stand another minute in this place," I said. "Well, I'll do my best. Can you walk?" he asked. "Sure. You'll just need to hold my arm," I said. "Well, It's worth a try," he said. I threw on my clothes which were sort of bloody, but it didn't matter. Nick held my arm, and we walked to the front lobby. "Mr. Devon Anderson needs to be signed out please," Nick said in a commanding voice. "I'm sorry, but we need you're ID first," the man at the desk said. "Well, I'm Nick Carter, and this is my best friend. He really needs to get out of here right now," Nick said urgently. "T-The Nick Carter? Can you sign an autograph for my daughter," the man said. "Sure. Just give me some paper and a pen," Nick said. He quickly signed the piece of paper. "Can we leave now," Nick asked hopefully. "Sure, I'll just say you left to be transferred to another hospital nearer to your hometown," he said. "Thanks a mill, pal," Nick said, and he dragged me out of the hospital. We walked over to the limo, and Nick helped me inside. "Comfy?" Nick asked as he propped my up with some pillows. "Yea, thanks Nick, you're the greatest," I said with a weak smile. "Sure. Just try and get some sleep," Nick said looking at me with a caring smile. "Sure babe, anything for you," I said lovingly and wrapped my arm around his neck. Before I knew it, I was asleep. I woke up, and the clock said 3:16. Damn, I thought. Nick's concert was at 6:00. I would probably end up being stuck in this hotel room until he got back. "Hey sleepy," Nick said as he kissed me on my forehead. Let's get you up so you can come to the concert," he said. "We can make it a surprise to all our fans that you're still alive and well. I got off the couch, and headed towards the bathroom. "Let me grab a shower first Nick," I said as I gingerly removed my bloody clothing. I walked into the shower and turned on the water as hot as it could go. I looked at the incision made across my stomach from the surgury. Well, it'll go away, I thought. The hot water really stung my wounds, but I just flexed my hands, and thought about Nick. I turned the water off after I had gotten all the blood off of my. I walked out of the shower and started drying off. UGH, I thought, looking at my reflection in the mirror. I ran some gel through my hair, and fixed it just how I wanted it to be, and threw on some Abercrombie boxers. Hmmmm, what to wear, I thought. Then, I turned to look at Nick, and almost fell over. I had never, and I mean never, seen him look better. He wore a really tight dark blue silk t-shirt with a matching button down shirt, left open. He wore the same sort of dark blue pants which fanned out at the bottom, and some black docs with thick soles to match nicely. His hair looked so perfect and it was gelled so that a few sprigs stuck in front of his eyes. "How do I look, babe," he said turning around. "Uh-um, stunning," I said looking at him trying to drink him all in. "Really, well, I've got the same for you," he said picking through his huge clothing stack. Then, he pulled out the same outfit, but in a dark green and threw me some black docs. "Lucky we wear the same size," he said smiling. "N-Nick, you're so nice. You share everything you have with me. I'm just wondering why you do it? You could basically have any person in the world, and you choose me. I don't quite get it," I said touched by his generosity. "Didn't we already go through this?" he said. "You are the sweetest, most caring and most beautiful person in the world, and I should be the one who is thankful. He bent down and wrapped another bandage around my middle, being careful not to break my recently set ribs. "Wow, you say the nicest things," I said, tears coming into my eyes. "Thanks Devon. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me," Nick said. "Oh, and be careful with that t-shirt. It's really tight, and I don't want it to crush your ribs. That would be horrible. I'd have to take you back to the hospital too." "Thanks babe, you care so much," I said carefully putting on the clothes he gave me, and slipping on the identical shoes. When I was finished, I stood up, Nick moved us both over to the mirror. I looked in it, and saw that we were very much alike. We were both about 6'1, we both had blue eyes, and we both had blond hair, but mine was cut very much shorter. We both were very skinny, and had the same soft facial features. "A penny for your thoughts," Nick said kissing me softly, his lips barely brushing against mine. "Well, I was just wondering if we were twins, seperated at birth," I said jokingly. "Yup, same here," he said as he sprayed some cologne on both of us. "Let's get out of here and you can get some front row seats," he said kissing me. "Oh Mr. Carter, can I have a backstage pass," I said in my little girl voice. "Nope, sorry. I don't want to have anybody backstage except Devon Anderson," he said jokingly. We kissed for awhile, and then left the room, heading for the elevator. We managed to avoid the usual crowd, as most of the people had already left for the concert. He pulled me into his limo, and we were whisked away. "N-Nick, I don't know if this is a good idea. What if I start bleeding," I said, thinking of my recent encounter with death. "Well, I don't know what to say. Just think that if you die, you'll be in my arms," Nick said smiling. "There's no place I'd rather be, dead or alive," I said smiling. We got out of the limo, and I suddenly realized that we were not in San Fransisco. We were in Los Angeles. "Uhm, I hate to announce to you this, but we're not in San Fran anymore," I said. "Really? Well, you fell asleep in the limo, so I just let you sleep. Our concert is in Los Angeles today, and if you hadn't run away, you would be at the hotel here," Nick said. "Oh, well I hate to say it, but you were the one who dumped me," I said. "Oh yeah," he said quietly blushing. We walked inside the concert hall, and I couldn't believe how many people there were. Nick walked past thousands of screaming fans. He and I walked backstage. "A kiss for good luck, babe," Nick said. "Sure," I obliged kissing him. "Alright, better go claim your seat," Nick said sweetly. I walked to my first row seat and thanked god that I'd found Nick. Aside from the killer pain in my middle, and the soreness from the fall, I felt O.K. The lights dimmed, and the boys walked out. The crowd immediately started screaming. Nick glanced at me and smiled fingering the ring on his finger. I casually did the same for mine. The songs started, and I was still interested even though I listen to these songs 24/7. When it was the last song of the show, "I want it that way" I started to tear up. All the guys were staring straight at me, and I returned their stares one by one. At the end of the concert, I walked backstage to congratulate them. "Hey Devon, I'm glad it all worked out," Brian said as he hugged me. I still got that strange feeling that he was holding on a little more than was needed. "It's alright Brian. Everything's gonna be O.K," I said. Nick came out, and he ran up to me, kissing me. I savored his taste, and then we walked out to the limo. As we went passed Carson Daly with his MTV mic and people all around. "Alrighty everyone, the question for tonight has been one that nobody has answered right. What kind of boxers does Nick Carter wear. Come on ladies. I'm sure someone can take a guess," he said. I glanced at Nick, and walked over to Carson. "Actually, they're Abercrombie, blue with green stripes," I said casually and Nick grabbed me and we laughed uncontrollably. "OH, and how do you know this," Carson asked amusedly. "Oh, we have ways," Nick said, and we ran out the door to the waiting limo. "Oh god babe," Nick said with tears running down his face. "That was so funny. You should have seen the look on Carson's face. We were both doubled up laughing. After the fit had subsided, we took the limo to our Los Angeles Hotel. "Nick, I hate to bring this up, but all of our stuff is at the San Fransisco Hotel," I said. "Nope, sorry babe, but I had it all transported. We're sharing a room here, and I hope you don't mind the close quarters," he said. "Not at all. I hope we just get closer and closer," I said. The bright city lights flashed overhead, playing an assortment of shadows across our faces. I looked up, thinking how lucky I was, and the exact same thought was running through Nick. Hey, hoped you liked it. I promised you I'd get them back together, right? Well, E-mail me at SkiFree0300@aol.com
