AGE OF WANTONNESS by Macout Mann Chapter 21 The next morning Spangler meets with the city attorney, the mayor, and his administrative assistant. Randall Bishop, the attorney, has prepared an agreement in which the ownership of the tabernacle is transferred back to the fellowship in consideration of the fellowship's paying back property taxes and adopting a series of policies and practices. Chief among these is the recognition that all citizens have the right to follow their own consciences with respect to morals and legal behaviors, and that the fellowship will cease all protest demonstrations against otherwise legal acts. Spangler reads the document carefully and feels that he can agree to all the terms, not that he wants to, but he's hardly in a position to argue. Yet he says, "We need some concessions from your side as well." "We're giving you your fucking tabernacle back," Mayor Weatherby says. "That oughta be enough." "We feel that the right of our people to follow their consciences should also be recognized," Spangler rejoins. "For example, we should have the right to appear outside Ole Town without being tormented." They discuss a number of reciprocal obligations to be added to the agreement "in the name of fairness," as Spangler put it. And finally the mayor and city attorney agree to several. These are incorporated into the document, and duplicate d-screens are prepared. "I am prepared to sign for the fellowship," Spangler says, and he imprints "Zachary Spangler, Attorney at law and in fact" on each screen. Weatherby signs for the city. Both feel that an era of better feeling, if not good feeling, is at hand. After the two lawyers leave, the mayor celebrates the concordat with the Pilgrims by screwing his administrative assistant until his dick is sore. After all, what's an administrative assistant for, anyway? Joan Weston calls Jasmine Masters and says that she wants to have a celebration for Zach. "He worked hard on the Jennings case," she says. "I'd like for the two of you to join us for dinner and the show at Anything Goes tonight." "We'd love to," Jasmine responds, "and we can come over here afterward. Josh is coming too, of course?" "Certainly," Joan says. Ben Stiles hears about the results of the trial on tv. He decides to give a party too. He calls the mayor and invites him and his wife. He tells the mayor he's also inviting Mike, Susannah, and Ashby. "Invite Mike's parents, too," the mayor requests. "He's an old fuck buddy of mine." At the manse, Brother Bryan begins writing his sermon for Sunday. Doubtless to be the most contrite he's ever preached. The Cranes, Susannah, and Ashby arrive promptly at eighteen huundred hours, when Anything Goes opens. Ashby will have to excuse himself to appear in the second part of the show. The mayor and his wife arrive shortly after. Ben has had a place set for himself, although he knows he'll have to be up from time to time to play host to customers. He's ordered for the whole group, a superb dinner including Artichoke Soup, Scampi, Chicken Kiev, Caesar Salad, and the club's signature Chocolate-orange Cream Pie. When the Weston party arrives, Zach sees the other celebrants, comes over to greet them and especially to thank Mike and Susannah for their help in the case. "Come and let me introduce you to my friends," he tells the three youngsters. Jasmine looks hungrily at Mike and Ashby and tells Ashby she understands he's sensational in the show. "You all must come to see us," she says. "I really mean it. We all can have so much fun." "Do come," Masters echoes, "Jasmine is always up for an orgy." They all laugh. Back at their table, the mayor tells them all about the agreement with the Pilgrim Fellowship. "Ought to make my reelection a cinch," he chuckles. The first act of the show is spectacular as usual. At the interval, Susannah asks, "Can we go into one of those little rooms, Mike?" "I'm not on duty," Mike says. "You'll have to ask Mr. Stiles." "Tonight you can do anything you want," Ben laughs. "I'll chaperone," Ashby giggles. "Me and Steve will take another room," the mayor says THE END Copyright 2012 by Macout Mann. All rights reserved.
