Date: Mon, 17 May 2021 22:42:19 -0400 From: Justin Forfun Subject: New Reality 29 This story started out of boredom, and has now taken on a life of its own. I've gotten a lot of positive feedback, and some negative. I'm open to suggestions and feedback, but it is what it is. You can comment as you like at Jst4fun2nyt@gmail.com. The sex in it isn't going to be a major part of it, nor is it going to be graphic. If you're looking for masturbation fodder, look elsewhere. There will be slow times in this story, just like there are in life. Other times, things will fly at you too fast. There will be boring days, and exciting days. It's just how it's flowing. With work, I'm getting about a chapter done a week. So I'll post twice a week, and see how that flows. Here is the house plan I used for inspiration for their new lake house. I've modified it to fit my dream, but this is what gave me the idea of the general layout. https://archivaldesigns.com/collections/castle-house-plans/products/balmoral-castle-house-plan I've put the Character list at the end of this chapter. As it's become quite long, I've only listed those who appear in this chapter. I'll TRY to remember to add it to every chapter as they get posted. And on another note, somewhere along the line, Warnick Enterprises became Warnick Industries. It wasn't intentional, but I'm not going to ask the archivist to go back and repost that many chapters. I like the sound of Industries, so I think I'll keep that. Sorry for the error. Please tell me of others? They were dressed and ready for school but were worried about their brother. I was about to say he'd be fine when they got home, when he sat up to say it for himself. "Good morning brothers. I'm fine, thanks. You two get to school and we can talk this evening ok? And thank you for being there with me last night." He said as he pulled them both into a hug. "I could hardly move the morning after my change, and you're picking up pups. What are you?" I laughed Scott told us to hush, as he pointed at a still sleeping Billy "He came to bed at 6, let him sleep." He whispered, so we all quietly got up and headed to breakfast. Josh only paused to reach for his boxers, but when he saw the rest of us going out naked, he shrugged and went with it. I walked to the refrigerator and pulled out the fresh white tail, poured four cups, and put them in the microwave. "Scott and I prefer this, try it, there are others. At least two cups a day for the next week, along with good meals, understand?" "What's different about this than what I had last night?" "Oh, that was stale beef blood. I didn't expect you to drink any of that, how did it taste to you?" "I don't know what to compare it too, but it didn't taste like blood used to. I guess it's on my list of things to learn huh?" I handed him the cup, then gave one to Scott and Bea. Samantha hadn't fed him so I wasn't worried about her for now, but I told her to dig in and explained that breakfast was a casual thing, with everyone eating as they got up. I showed her the blood cooler and rolled my eyes as she poured a small glass of sheep. "Billy's got an admirer." I said, making everyone else laugh. I had to explain that to her and Josh, and he tasted her glass and made a face. That got us laughing again, and we enjoyed our breakfast. Sebastian joined us and, hearing the conversation, told us that the nobles in Europe years ago kept doves for blood for their most honored guests. That took the conversation back to his farm, and I told him to have whatever animals he wanted to supply us with variety. I was sure someone would like all the different flavors, as big as our household was getting. We finished eating and all headed to our shower, taking turns to wash Joshua and Samantha. They were in heaven, having never experienced someone lovingly washing and caressing their bodies. We allowed them to give each other a sexual release, then we all got out and dried each other. They only had the clothes they had worn last night, so they put those on while I called Tyler to see how soon she could get Joshua measured. She jokingly asked me if I just wanted her to open a shop in our basement, then she said to bring him in anytime and she'd take care of things. I headed to the office with Josh following. When we got there, Adam and Todd were waiting, so I told them to come in. "Before we start, Joshua, take the Silverado to this address. Meet with Tyler, she'll make you some suits for your new job. Then go get your things from your house and tell your parents whatever you think best as to why you're moving. If you can keep things from them, you can continue to see them, but if they start to suspect, you need to cut it off before I'm required to... well, just be wise when you're around them, please? Then get Samantha's things from her home. Stop by JP Morgan Private Bank, ask for David Jackson. He'll be expecting you. When should I expect you home?" "My parents moved to Philly when I went there for school, so I won't be seeing them very often. I have a rented room, so I can clean it out quick. I should be back after lunch." "We'll talk at 2." "Yes Father." And he turned to go. "He's really taken to you Greg." Said Todd. "He has, I can't explain it, but I feel close to him somehow. Not a mate bond, but something strong. I hope my bond with my other pups grows as strong. Maybe it's because we're similar in personalities. Anyway, what can I do for you gentlemen this morning?" "We came to ask for instructions Sire." Adam said with a slight bow. "I thought you had a job already?" "I'm retired in this life. I wanted to know if there was anything you could use my skills for before considering my options." "I don't control my pack like that Adam, but if you have skills I can use, I'll certainly do that, if you want. What are they?" "I was the librarian at Duquesne University for the last 40 years, until June when I retired." Frederick had just walked in as Adam said this. We exchanged a look, and when he nodded I said "Frederick will show you what needs done. You'll be working under a high level of secrecy. Nothing you work with is to be discussed beyond that door, understood?" "Of course Sire. Will you want us moving here?" "I think you're close enough, Mars is only 30 minutes away, unless you want something closer. We're crowded in this house, and until Andrew moves people around, I don't know if I have anything on the property right now." "No Sire, we're fine where we are. Thank you." He started to follow Frederick and I added "And please call me Greg? Unless the surroundings require different." "Understood Greg, thanks." "Now, Todd, you do have a job, right?" "I do, but like Dad said, if you have a need I can fill I thought..." "Do you like your job? What do you do anyway?" "I am the GM of the Monroeville Mall. Mostly I handle leasing, oversee maintenance, deal with tenant's whining about sales being down, and look good. Mostly the last one." He said with a grin. I thought about it for a few minutes, long enough that he started to become uncomfortable. "I'm sorry Todd, I'm trying to put things together in my head. I'm working without my organizer this morning and I have to actually think. Are you able to honestly asses your abilities without your ego?" "I'd like to think so, yes." "I assume you have a corporate manager that you answer to, a regional head or something?" he nodded "Could you do his job? On probably four times the scale of his I mean." "How many properties are you talking Greg? And where?" "Pittsburgh area of course, New York City, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles. I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but I think we have 500-600 properties? I'd want you to expand things, where it makes sense." "Are the regional people any good?" "They seem to be acceptable, but they're timid. I want someone between them and me. Someone to make decisions." "Make decisions within what limits?" "I'll say it to you like I said it to Joshua yesterday, if you feel it's in the best interest of the pack to sell everything and put all the cash in the stock market, do it. I don't care. On paper, these are all mine, but the reality is, everything I do is for the good of the pack. So make money and support the pack, and I'm happy. Make honest mistakes with good intent, I don't care. And before you ask, there is no pay or benefits. Pay is take what you need to live, benefits are, work when you need to, otherwise you're off. Now, first, can you handle it?" "If I can replace those that aren't doing what's needed, then yes, I can handle it. I'm not keeping someone's brother or son just because they're family." "I would assume that everyone you'll deal with is a vampire, if not, feel free to make that change, slowly. My second question is, do you want the job? Understand, you'll be traveling a bit and you have two young pups." "May I talk it over with Lisa tonight? Call you with an answer tomorrow?" "Take all the time you want. The position doesn't exist right now, so the only rush is that I'm tired of having to deal with phone calls when someone has a major expense they're afraid to authorize. But deal through Billy, not me directly. If you accept the job, I'll provide appropriate clothing, a vehicle, and we have two planes... well, we have two right now, I'm starting to think we'll be getting more. Anything else I can answer for you?" "No Greg, and thanks, for everything. We love the pups, and we love our new brother-in-law." "If you're my son's brother-in-law, does that make us anything?" I asked with a grin. He was laughing as he left. I wanted to talk with Patrick if he was awake, and I wanted a Coke Zero. I hadn't realized how much I depend on Billy until he wasn't here at my side like he has been for months. And I needed some way to summon Andrew, or Tommy, or anyone, when I need them. I was frustrated, and about to go get a Coke when Billy walked in carrying one. "Have you even looked at your desk?" "Well yes, why?" "Open the top left pullout, the one that used to be for a typewriter." I opened it and found a row of buttons recessed into the wood. I looked up confused. "I'll label them until you get used to them, but everyone of those is tied to the network, if you hit the first one, I will get a text that says to come here. If you hit the second, Andrew gets a text, and so on... I've already talked to Leonard, and he feels really bad for not thinking to do this, so he's taking the space under here" As he pointed under the spiral stairs that led to the bookshelves above the office "and putting in a cooler, so you'll have soft drinks, a few wines, and a small pitcher of white tail. Amie will keep it stocked every morning. And Patrick isn't awake yet, I just checked." I looked at him with my eyebrow raised "Were you just in my head?" "Nope, but I know you, and I know what you need before you need it. It's my job, remember?" "You're right, and I was just thinking how I was lost without you. But I have one question for you. If this has been here all this time, why is it, you've gone to fetch Andrew or Tommy or whomever, when I asked you to, rather than using this?" "Cause... I forgot about it until just now?" He said, breaking us both up with laughter.'' "Fair enough, how are you feeling this morning? Before you answer, if you didn't drink a cup of blood already, get out of here until you do." "I'm fine, and I had two cups with breakfast, thank you `daddy'." He said, sticking his tongue out. "Hey! Is that how you treat your Alpha?" I laughed, "But back to serious, I sent Josh to see Tyler already, he'll be back at... shoot, I forget what I told him... 1? Well, sometime after lunch. Anyway, I offered Todd the job of managing the real estate groups. I told him we have roughly 500 properties, I hope that's right?" "Under our direct control, 673 in the US and 114 in London. 13 in Zell, but I don't know how you count that pack. If you count Serving Alphas we have..." "No, they manage theirs, just what Todd will have, but anyway." "You need more planes." "Exactly. Get with Ted and work it out, tell me what you come up with. I'm thinking similar to the Phenom so we can base them at Butler." "Butler's being a pain already and we haven't even signed the lease." "Then get Ted... never mind, which button is he?" "Um, yeah, I'll call him." He said with another laugh. "Label these buttons, goofy!" Five minutes later we were sitting with Ted looking at planes and talking about options for where to base them. Cessna CJ4 would cost us less, but have less range, same with a Phenom 100. Two more planes would mean we need to work things out with Butler, or find space at Pittsburgh, and flying there was a hassle dealing with the commercial traffic. Ted jokingly said we could always build an airport here, we have the land, and when Billy and I both stopped and looked at him he started talking about what we'd need and the approvals we'd have to get from the FAA. It was at this point I realized we were probably going overboard and brought things to a stop. "Ok, we're talking about $16m in planes, and $5m or so to build a strip here, right?" "Roughly, yes." "And we don't know how much travel Josh and Todd, or someone if Todd doesn't accept the job, will need to do, right?" "Right." "We're just saying he will need to fly some, and we don't know how often, and we're going to buy two planes? Can't we just charter at first, and if it hits a certain point, then we buy?" "Well damn Greg, take all the fun out of it! But you're right, and since we got home, no one has flown anywhere, unless you count the flight that didn't happen." Ted said with a grin. "Right, so we have two planes gathering dust, and we want two more? No, let's back up. Billy, call Brandon Smyth once it's business hours in California, and ask him how fast he could get two identical to ours, and his best price. Tell him we're just doing research right now, but if we need to order, they'll take months to build. After that, get rates from WheelsUp. We can talk to Josh when he gets back and see what he thinks." "Got it Greg." "So do you need me anymore?" "Yes, either you or Mickey will be taking me to New York this afternoon. I need to be in Manhattan around 6. Take the Bell? Or Phenom?" "Bell every time Greg, we'll be in lower Manhattan in two hours, so leave here around 3:45. Just you and Billy?" "Just me. No, add Tommy. I'll have a car waiting. You can both go if you feel better, things might get... yeah, both of you, armed. Billy, tell Tommy." "With all due respect Greg, from the sound of it, I'd like Mickey and I both flying, and Clint in the back, armed as well." "That's fine, but this is another flight that you see nothing, understood?" "Of course. I'm just a pilot, I know nothing." "Let's aim for 3:30, I'm sure it'll be delayed some. Anyway, go. And thanks for your input on this waste of time." "If you have another few seconds Greg?" I nodded "We noticed the house is getting crowded, and we're not household staff. We'd be fine in that 3 bedroom house Leonard is finishing, unless there are other plans? That would free up our rooms on the third floor for staff, or your new son, or whatever." "Mention that to Andrew, he's managing that but I'm sure he'd appreciate you being flexible." Ted nodded his thanks and left. "Where is Leonard this morning anyway?" "He's in the conference room with Sebastian, talking about changes to the farm." Scott said as he and Bea walked in "Frederick already downstairs?" "Yes. Adam is a magic user, and is a trained librarian, so he's handling that for us. You two are going to get dusty down there." "We know Greg, the pups are asleep so we thought we'd go help a few hours. Is there anything special we should be looking for?" "Yeah Bea, any mention of born vampires using magic, and anything you think will help us, offensive or defensive magics. Just keep your eyes open and tell me about things that get your attention really. Also, any mention of humans using magic. We're going to go talk with Leonard, then go see the houses along the lake. I'm leaving for New York about 3, no idea when I'll be home." "We'll be fine without you and Billy." "Just me." I said, and saw their concern. "Please don't ask." They both came to embrace me, then headed downstairs. Billy and I went to the conference room to find Leonard and Sebastian looking at a satellite view of the area, zoomed in on the farm we had bought. "I hate to interrupt but I haven't seen the houses yet Leonard, are they ready for people?" "Painting today Greg, Andrew asked me that same thing five minutes ago. Are we moving?" "Some will be, yes. And before you ask, I would like you and Tommy to stay where you are, you're on the second floor in this wing, right?" "We are, and we would prefer to stay close as well, so there's no problem." "How involved will it be to open up the third floor into larger rooms? There are eight in the main wing?" "Six on the second floor, eight on the third. Not a problem Greg, we planned on your family growing. We can mirror the second floor easily. It would take us a week and you'd never notice it while we do it. Should I start?" "Oh no, I need to talk to Joshua and find out what he and Samantha want to do, then work with Andrew to make the space. Matt and Liz might want to move to one of the houses and their apartment would be perfect. That would solve things for a while, I hope. But enough of that, can you spare the time to show us them?" "Unless you want me specifically, I'd like to get this done. Craig's handling things down there, just look for the Ram, he's been using it." "That's fine, we don't need you, just someone. Let him know Billy and I are on our way please? I don't want to have to search a house for him." Leonard pulled out his phone to call Craig as we left. We walked into an empty garage and I looked at Billy with the obvious question on my face. "Craig has the Ram, Sarah has Grandma's car at the store, Shane has the Suburban. Let's check the other one?" So we walked across the parking area and into the second garage. Three empty spaces. I pulled out my phone and called Tommy "Do we have a vehicle shortage?" "I'm not aware that we do, why?" "Billy and I came out to drive down to the lake houses and there are none in either garage." "Where's your new truck?" "I told Josh to take it to town, where are you?" "I took Jack to the flight school at Butler. I'm sorry Greg, I can be back in 10 minutes." "No, don't do that, it's fine, I'm just looking around and trying to count vehicles and wondering." "I'll fix it Greg. Is there anything special you'd like to have around?" "No, Josh will be getting something and I'll have my truck back, we were just surprised. Is Dad's car around?" "In the lower garage while he's away, yes. Keys should be on the board down there." "Thanks Tommy, tell Jack he needs to buy something so he can drive himself, if he can drive on the correct side of the road." "He says `very funny uncle'. Anything else?" "Yeah, you're going to New York with me this afternoon, be here by 3, armed." "Understood. See you then." "I guess we're going in style." I said as we walked to the separate garage where James had stored his classic cars. "Where are the classic cars anyway?" "Storage place in New Castle." "Have Leonard build something here, somewhere out of sight but not miles away." I said as I started the car. We drove down the back drive, and in 10 minutes pulled up in what had been Billy's driveway when we moved here. Craig was waiting for us. "Good morning Greg. Leonard said you wanted a tour?" "Not a tour, just give me a quick overview of what's where. Maybe we'll look in this one to see what's been done." "Well let's walk and talk. I'm sure you have things to do. We built this one with our pack in mind. I guess we should have adjusted things, since we're all in the house in Squirrel Hill and Sam and Shane are in your house." "Talk to me about that Craig. What's the feeling you guys have? It's just you, Brian, and Johnny?" "All the ones we gathered from the streets are in the pack I guess, but honestly with Sam and Shane here, we don't feel like a pack anymore, just friends that live together. Don't get me wrong, we love Sam and Shane. And Tanya's wonderful, but since they got together and Sam took the sub-Alpha seriously, well. I don't know, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have spoken like that about him." "It's fine Craig. I'll look at options. Leonard is very happy with your work, and the fact that you're here supervising alone says a lot. How's Johnny?" "Oliver jokes that he's going to steal him from you. Oliver's a great guy and all, but Johnny can do everything you need, and he's pack, ya know?" "Well, Oliver lives in Pittsburgh, so he is too, in a sense, but I hear what you're saying. And Brian?" "He's really taken to helping the pups that were on the street. Those three nights that Kalyn was gone, he was personally walking around downtown searching for her. He didn't sleep for three days. When she came back he just hugged her and asked her to let him know if she was going to do that again so he didn't worry so much." "Does he like her as a girlfriend?" "Oh no, he's like that with all of them. When they got home from school yesterday, he sat with them all, helping them with their homework." "Ok, well, I need to meet with you all and talk about this, maybe next week sometime. But back to this house. You say it was built with you guys in mind? So it's 6 bedrooms?" "Yes, master on the ground floor, 5 upstairs. Bathroom for the master, half in the hall, and 3 upstairs. And a nice pack gathering room that looks over the lake." "And the other houses?" He pointed at a house about 500 yards away "That one's 3 bedrooms up, one down, 2 full baths, a half, and a nice family room. About the same distance past that there's another one. Same numbers but different design. We didn't want to just drop boxes here, we wanted them each to look unique." "I'm glad. So just these three?" "No, you know that ridge that comes up from the lake about a mile past the gatehouse?" I nodded "We're finishing three along that ridge, in the woods away from the lake. They're all 2 bedroom, 2 bath. We figured that would spread people out, give privacy and still keep everyone within a mile of the main house. We ran this road back to the main road, so these folks don't have to drive by the main house to go to and from town. The other one we're going to finish the road next week, bring it in by the separate garage, so they can go two ways as well. Both roads have pin pads and cameras tied to the gatehouse. And the barriers are the steel posts that drop into the ground, they'll stop a tank. No one's coming in either of those. We put the gates about 100 yards off the main road so it's not obvious we're defended." "Well you've summed it all up pretty good. So, we have a 6 bedroom, two 4 bedrooms, and three 2 bedrooms, did I keep track?" "Exactly, you can move into these three tomorrow, and the 2's will be ready say Thursday of next week?" "Nice, what else are you working on?" "Leonard said it was ok, so we put your office downtown as last priority, behind these and the school. I'll take these crews there tomorrow though. We'll have it done in a week, commercial stuff's fast and easy. Len has the plans in his truck if you haven't seen them. Johnny did all of that." "Thanks Craig, you're doing great. Have you been using this Ram all this time?" "Just to get around. I don't haul in it. I don't haul often anyway, we got three work trucks for that stuff, we've been keeping them parked here at night." "Tell Leonard to get you a truck, whatever you like. Similar to his, what do you prefer?" "I like your Silverado, that's a sweet ride." "Go get one, I'll call Jonathan. Chevrolet in Cranberry, and don't go work truck, you're supervising, do like Leonard did. Get one like mine in a color you like, whatever you want. Anyway, we've taken enough of your time, we're going to walk through, if it's safe?" "Yeah, just touching up details in this one, no ladders or bare wires here. Thanks about the truck, it'll help at the house too." "Tell Brian to get something if he hasn't, something to help there, an SUV or van maybe, it's up to him." "I'll tell him, thanks Greg. I'll be around inside, yell if you have any questions." And he went to grab something from one of the work trucks as we headed inside. We walked around and looked at the finishes, carpets, and appliances. Everything was what I had imagined. I was happy that whoever lived here would be safe and happy. Then we headed back to the main house, put the car away and headed inside. ********************************************************************************************** Greg Fowler Warnick - Our main character, 17 years old, died and became a vampire.
