I've gotten a lot of positive feedback, and some negative. I'm open to suggestions and feedback, but it is what it is. You can comment as you like at Jst4fun2nyt@gmail.com. The sex isn't a major part of it, nor is it going to be graphic. If you're looking for masturbation fodder, look elsewhere. There will be slow times in this story, just like there are in life. Other times, things will fly at you too fast. There will be boring days, and exciting days. It's just how it's flowing. With work, I'm getting about a chapter done a week. So I'll post twice a week, and see how that flows. Here is the house plan I used for inspiration for their new lake house. I've modified it to fit my dream, but this is what gave me the idea of the general layout. https://archivaldesigns.com/collections/castle-house-plans/products/balmoral-castle-house-plan DONATE to Nifty so you can continue to enjoy my story, and the thousands of others!!!! https://donate.nifty.org/ ********************************************************************************************* Then, out of the mouths of babes, as the saying goes, our plan fell apart. "Dad? If you tell your Mom that your Dad's dead, shouldn't she already know that through the mating bond?" I pulled away from the hug to stare at him. How did I miss that? How did Dad miss that? So we turned and went back in. I looked at Dad and said "Can you block Mom totally?" "Well no, I can always tell she's..." and he stopped as he realized how stupid we all were. "Let me guess, your new pup realized it?" I nodded "Now what?" "Now we go on with the plan and hope that your pack is as loyal as you think they are, and that my mate is a good actress. Unless you have another plan?" I shook my head "No, this is it. How did I miss this?" "Greg, I'm 500 years old, and I missed it. I've had that connection for so long it's part of me and I just forgot. At least we don't have to break their hearts. Go son, and you still can't let them come to me, not now." "I know. I'm just... I feel so stupid right now." "Stop. What do you say about mistakes?" "Make them and move on, forget the loss and learn the lesson." "Exactly, now go." I kissed him again and left in a slightly better mood, like he said, at least I don't have to break their hearts. And, he didn't mention, I don't have to lie to my pack. They trust me, I can't do that. Dad wouldn't leave the room, and no one knew this room existed, but I still put an illusion over the door so it was hidden. I'd have to bring him lunch but Tommy and the others needed to rest. Billy, Josh and I went to my office and we talked about how to regroup. There really were only two choices, and both had risks, but I chose to trust, so I mentally called Scott and Bea to the office. "We need to talk to Mom, where is she?" "I think she's up in the tower study with the pups, why?" "I only want to do this once, let's go." As I headed out of the office and towards the foyer with my mates and son following. We climbed the stairs to the second floor and went to the study where Mary and Donna were on the floor painting with watercolors with the pups. "Mom, we need to talk." I saw her tense and smelled the flash of fear, then her eyes flicked like she was thinking and I knew she was touching that connection. She found it intact and she relaxed. "What's wrong Greg? What's happened?" "Should I leave you alone Greg? Do you want me to take the pups?" "No Mary, you should hear all of this as well. Kevin's dead. I killed him." Mary gasped and Donna just sat there staring at me. "And James?" "I have him somewhere safe, but you can't see him. Maybe not for a while." "Kevin betrayed us and James is in danger." "Did he tell you that?" "No Greg, but I know James, and I knew Kevin. I don't need any more details, and you shouldn't provide them. You'll keep him safe?" "I'm doing my best but it's complicated." "And I have to act like he's dead, so this will work?" I nodded "James underestimates you Mom, yes, that's it exactly." "How big do you want this played?" "Only as big as we need to be believed. What would you do?" She thought for a few minutes and I saw her pull Davie tight to her. "Tell me the story first." "They went to dinner in Manhattan, got jumped in an alley by a group and got killed." "I don't think you could sell that Greg, James was an Alpha." "He was, but he submitted to me, he couldn't shift to Alpha form anymore. And having lost that, he's basically our omega for a while, so he's very weak. Kevin just left the pack, as a nomad, his beast was weak too." She nodded, thinking "Had to be at least 6 of them?" "Nine." "You have evidence?" "Video, and bodies beaten and cut beyond recognition." "We'll have a small funeral, here. I'll have to lie to a few old friends but over time, they'll forgive me once they understand. You can't lie to your pack Greg, everyone will have to be told the truth." "I've realized that. Our first plan was to break your heart. I was about to when Josh realized you would do exactly what you did when I walked in. You checked the bond, didn't you?" She smiled "I did, and I would have known. I would have played along, but it would have killed Scotty and Matt. And when the truth came out, your pack would have just a tiny doubt about you. I'm an Alpha mate Greg, even though he's not an Alpha now, I know my place. Scott might have to do this one day too, and he'll do fine. When will you announce it?" "Pack meeting at dinner tonight, there's more I need to discuss, then we'll let someone in New York contact us. Kevin was on the Council, so there will be attention. If they find out I killed him, I'm dead." "They won't Greg, I can see it in your eyes. Kevin is dust, isn't he?" "Ash." "Anything else you need me to do?" "Please don't talk to Dad through the connection? I don't want you to know where he is, incase something happens to you. Send him your love, check that he's safe, but nothing more. Am I asking too much?" "No, you're protecting both of us, I understand. Thank you for letting me do that much." "I couldn't stop you, but I know if I ask, you'd respect what I say. I really am sorry Mom. And while I'm being honest, I had to drink from him to know that I didn't have to kill him. I went in prepared to do that." "I wouldn't expect anything else Greg. The pack comes before your personal feelings. I'll see you at dinner, ok? I want to enjoy the pups, they'll get me through the loss of my mate." I knelt down and gave her a kiss on the cheek "I love you both, remember that." She smiled as we headed back to the office. When we were all in, my pain exploded in magic and the door slammed shut behind us. From downstairs I heard Frederick starting to come up so I shouted "I'm locking you in the vault, we're safe, we just need privacy!" I heard them both "Yes Alpha" and I shut the vault door. Scott slowly walked up to me and put his arms around me. "Did you really go there planning on killing Dad?" "If I had to, yes." "And will you tell us, just us, what really happened?" I pulled out of his embrace and turned to look at them all looking at me. No judgment, just love and trust, so I told them, everything. They listened without comment, without question. When I finished, I was sitting with my head in my hands. "And if you had found that Dad was in with Kevin, you would have killed him?" "Yes Scott, without a second thought." "Do you know how much I love you right now?" I looked up shocked. I had just told him I was prepared to kill his father, our father, and he loves me? He smiled "You don't get it, do you? You might be the son of James Warnick, but first, you're the Alpha of this pack. You put your life one the line to protect us, and you were willing to live for centuries having killed your father, to protect your pack. If one of us betrayed this pack, you'd kill us in a second, wouldn't you?" I looked up and started to deny it, but I realized he was right. It would kill me, but no one was above my pack, so I nodded. They all smiled, then Scott stepped to my side and knelt, looking into my eyes "I will die for you Alpha." Followed by Billy, then Bea, all doing the exact same thing. Then Joshua knelt, "I swear to you, I will not inherit this pack. I will die protecting you." That broke me and I was a crying mess for the...I don't know how many times in the last several hours. And again, they all wrapped me in their arms and held me until I was done. I was still a mess, but we had things that needed done so I unbound the door and opened the vault. Scott and Bea headed back down while Joshua and I tried to focus on something other than the Council, for now at least. Billy had gone to his office, and Josh and I were trying to project his travel needs. For some reason, I was stuck on buying those planes. Once again, it was Josh that made me see my priorities when he said... "Look, from a purely business standpoint no, we shouldn't buy until we know the need. But we have to think about the pack, and having humans fly us around, possibly overhearing a slip of the tongue. Or if we need to do something, not exactly legal... I say we just do it for the pack, and hope the business pays for it." Before I could send him a message Billy walked in. "Two, on their way in a week. Permits applied for with the FAA an hour ago, Leonard says he can have things built before we're legal do use it, which should be before we get back from Hawaii." I stared at him "Watching the video feed?" "Nope." "Mate bond?" "Nope." I just nodded "What else?" "I called Tammy Patrillo and listed Todd and Lisa's house." "You can't do that, they didn't surrender... he stopped at Mike's when they dropped the pups at school?" "You're learning this game Greg, so what's next?" I looked from Billy to Josh. I really am liking this game, and it's helping my mood. I looked up to Billy "He's either about to come through the gate or about to call?" "My bet is gate, but we'll see. Before or during lunch?" "Free meal of course, 11:45." I laughed. "And what's his main issue with the job?" I didn't have to think for even a second on that one "The travel." "Todd hates to fly, you're right." Josh said. "That might be a problem then. Billy, can you pull out a win in the bottom of the ninth?" "He hates to fly commercial. It's not flying, it's the damned TSA. You just bought him a plane, get him an office downtown." "Really? Is that your final answer?" Billy nodded and smiled. I looked at my phone "It's 11:30, we'll know shortly. And you mentioned the office, get Leonard, Craig, and Johnny here..." I stopped when his smile grew "12:30?" "One, Craig has to go get Johnny." Joshua had watched this and was shaking his head, amazed "And you need me why?" "So we can play our game without being asked to approve someone buying toilet paper." I said. "So, you hired me to buy toilet paper?" "No, I hired you because..." Billy's phone pinging stopped me "Todd's at the gate?" A nod. "Why do I even play? Ok, what else?" "I'll give you two guesses, Todd will be here before you can get a third one." I leaned back and thought about everything and it hit me "Johnny's engineered the roof for a helipad and you ordered another Bell." "You're getting better Greg, keep this up you'll be running things around here." Joshua's laugh echoed down the hall and I heard Todd say something to Andrew about his crazy brother-in-law. "Mr. Pierce to see you Sire." "We're expecting him Andrew, thank you." I stood and shook Todd's hand "Care to join our game?" Todd looked confused but when Josh nodded he said "Sure, I'll bite. How do we play?" "It's called `stump the psychic runt'." I said with a laugh. After a dirty look from Billy I went on "You're here to say you'd love to accept the job, but you hate the travel?" Todd looked surprised, but nodded. "And it's not the travel, but the TSA?" "Josh told you that." "Nope, I didn't know that was the reason you hate flying." Joshua said. "We've solved that, we're buying a plane. So you'll accept, and you're wanting to move here?" "You're crowded, I heard that already." "We have two 4 bedroom houses, and a 6 bedroom house, but that one's too big." "Ok, keep going, I'm intrigued." Todd said with a smile. "Oh he's enjoying it Greg." Josh laughed. "But you feel you need to sell yours first. Sadly, you gave it to me this morning, it's already listed." Todd looked from me to Josh, then landed on Billy "Amazing." "And, you timed your arrival hoping to have lunch." I threw in with a grin. "Well, Amie is an amazing cook." And we all laughed, then the phone rang "Hello George." "Kevin Spencer was killed last night." "Oh my god George, what happened?" "That's not all of it Greg, your Dad was with him. He's dead too." I sat for a second, then "Billy, get Scott and Donna in here, now! Call Matt at the school, tell him I need him and Liz ASAP." Billy ran out of the room so George would hear the commotion. "What... what happened George?" "They were out to dinner, they got jumped as they left. Must have been several of them, but it's a mess Greg, I'm so sorry. I'll be there tonight if you need me." "No, let me talk to Donna, she's going to need time to deal with it. Then she'll want a service so we'll need to plan. I have to go George, keep me up on the details as you get them, I'll call you if we hear anything." "Give her a hug for me Greg. And I hate to bring this up now, but as a Prince, we'll need to fill his spot on the Council. We'll have to discuss that within the week. I'm sorry you have to do that while you're mourning James." "It's part of service George. I'll manage. Send me information on how we do that so I can do it wisely, please?" "I'll email it to Billy right now Greg. Let me know if I can do anything at all for you." "Thank you, I have to go, Donna's coming down the hall." And I disconnected. Todd got up to go and I looked at him "Where are you going?" "Well, I should leave you to deal with that. I am sorry your loss Greg." "Sit, relax. You'll understand tonight, at dinner. Have you been in a pack before?" "No, your Dad was... Well, I don't want to speak ill of him right now, so no, I haven't." "Dad wasn't the best Alpha, Todd, you can say it. He said it, he said it to me when I became Alpha. I'll try to cut this short, but you've been pulled into a world-wide mess, with the Council and all that I told you about yesterday. We're a big part of this, and it's a huge chess game. The first moves have been made, but neither side knows who just made the move." I said with a grin. "Your Dad isn't dead, is he?" "I didn't say that, did I?" "And you didn't deny it. And I just heard a Prince of the Council confirm that he's dead." "And unlike most things you'll hear in this house, you are free to tell that to anyone that would care to hear it. I need to be clear here Todd, you've entered a powerful pack, and you're in a very high level position, because of two things. Well, technically three. One and two are how you opened your home for those two pups. You stretched and sacrificed to do right by them, that means your heart is where I need it. And three, my son thinks a lot of you." "That's only two... oh, twins, one and two. So I'm reading this right, I should keep my ears open and my mouth shut, except when the door is open when someone could over hear that phone call, like it is now." "Josh said you were smart. I'm not usually a hard-nosed guy, but I have to let you know one thing I learned this morning. My husband said that I would kill him if he betrayed my pack, and do you know what I said?" He just looked at me so I went on "I said yes. I didn't know it until he said it, but he's right. My pack comes before my own mates, and they know it. So when you say you're on my side, in my pack, that's what I'm putting at your back. Everyone in this room will die defending you and your pups, have no doubt. And have no doubt that if it is you we're defending them from... You can get up and walk away right now if you want to. I'll buy your house and get you a job at double what you were making. Or you can join us at lunch and be part of this." "You said you aren't that hard nosed guy, so I'll answer with a question." He waited, and I waited... then he asked "What's for lunch?" We all smiled as we got up to go to the kitchen.
