The sex isn't a major part of it, nor is it graphic. If you're looking for masturbation fodder, look elsewhere. There will be many slow times in this story, just like there are in life. Other times, things will fly at you too fast. There will be boring days, and exciting days. It's just how it's flowing.

Chapter 70

I pulled my phone out so fast I dropped it. Billy handed it to me, then he and Josh sat on either side of me as I answered and put it on speaker "We've been watching, who is it? Please tell me it's not Mom or Pop." I begged my son.

"No, Dad. Still nothing on them. This was Sarah. It looks like she was near the center of the explosion. Her body's burned pretty bad. Grace wants to take all the bodies to Quantico, to help with the investigation, but I told her that you'd have to make that decision. I'm worried about a human Doctor finding out too much."

"Grace? I'm guessing she's the FBI agent in charge?"

"Yeah, Grace Burroughs. She's been a ton of help, and she didn't flinch when she was told that I was in charge. She says she's known about us all her life, and that's why she's on this team."

I looked questioningly at Billy and he got the message. He pulled out his phone, and I heard him asking for the President's office as he walked away.

"Well, tell her I'll need to think about Quantico. Give her my number. I've heard and seen how you're doing, Son. I'm proud of you."

"Thanks Dad, but a lot of it is Brandon. He's just like Papa. I get an idea and before I can say anything, he's already doing it. I asked him about blood and before he could reply, the truck was pulling up with it. Anyway, I need to go. Grace needs me to clear everyone away so they can use a drone and the dogs. I'll call when I find them Dad, and I WILL find them, I swear it."

I nodded, like an idiot, then said "I believe you, Son. Please, be careful climbing on that debris. I don't need you getting hurt too."

Derrick laughed "Too late. I've sprained my ankle twice, and broken my thumb and index finger each once. Lucky I saw how Opa set Jesse's arm and I have the blood handy. The ankles took five minutes, the thumb an hour, and the finger is still a little tender. Give my love to Papa and the pups." And he disconnected.

I went to find Billy, alone in the lounge, and heard him saying "Thank you Mr. President. I'll call them now."

He looked up and I said "What did you find out?"

"Remember when George told us about the people in the IRS that handled vampire taxes? Well, it seems there are also teams at the FBI, CIA, and Pentagon that handle vampire issues. He gave me the phone numbers of all the contacts I need. It's safe to send the bodies to Quantico, they'll go to the medical examiner that knows our anatomy. This Agent Grace Burroughs is actually the head of the vampire team for the entire US, and has passed up promotions to stay where she is."

My phone rang and I looked to see a Quantico number. I held it out for Billy to see, and when he nodded, I answered "Hello Agent Burroughs. I understand you've been a great help to my son. What can I do for you?"

"Thank you, Your Majesty. I'm just doing my job. Derrick, er, Alpha Warnick, told me I needed to ask you before we send the bodies to Quantico?"

"I think you can call me Greg, and I know you can call him Derrick. And yes, now that we know about your team, you have my permission to do anything you feel appropriate. I'll tell Derrick that, if he doesn't take you at your word."

"Thank you, Your... er, Greg. And please, call me Grace. I'm sure Derrick will trust me when I say I've spoken to you. He's an incredible young man, by the way. You should be proud of how he's handling things."

"Thank you. I am very proud of him, and his brother. We've just been watching things live from a camera on the garage. I need to ask, in your experience, is there hope for finding survivors in the main house?"

"Greg, I've heard of humans surviving under rubble like this for days. Vampires are tougher than we are, so until we find bodies, we are not giving up on your mates and pups, so don't you give up." I heard a tone, then she said "Forgive me, but I need to take this, it's the Director. Derrick or I will call as soon as we know anything." And she disconnected the call.

I was starting to ask Billy about the Pentagon when Clint yelled up the stairs "Luncheon is served, Your Majesty. Don't make me come drag your royal butt down to the table!"

We laughed and headed down the stairs to the dining room. Joshua, Troy, Victor and all of the dukes were already sitting. They had left the head and the seat to its right empty for Billy and I. Tanya told me that she and Sam would sit with the pups in the other lounge, if that was ok with me. She thought they didn't need to hear our conversation. I looked to Billy, and after a short conversation through the bond, I told her to bring them in. They need to learn the realities of life. The three older boys had already lost one set of parents, so this would be a lesson in properly dealing with grief. Tanya nodded, then she and Sam sat on the sofas with Davie and Charlie, letting Chipper, Jesse, and Jeremey sit at the table.

Clint had done a simple meal of hamburgers and French fries. Comfort food, and it did the trick. Chipper got his plate, then asked me "Is there any news about Mom and Pop?"

"No news yet, buddy, but Grandma Mary got stuck in the pool house, and Craig helped get her out. She's ok now."

Jesse was staring at his plate as he whispered "Just my luck."

I stood and walked around to him, kneeling and putting my arms around him "What do you mean by that?" I asked, as gently as I could.

"Father always told us we didn't deserve to be happy. It's just my luck that we come live with you and Papa and Mom and Pop and was starting to feel like we belong and could be happy, and now they're gone."

I pulled his chin up so he was looking into my eyes and said "They're not gone, Son. They're missing, but until we find out for sure, we hope. Don't give up hope, ever, until you're sure. And if they are gone, you still have Papa and me, and we love you more than you can imagine. So you're going to be happy, even if I have to tickle you until you pee your pants!" I said, as I quickly dropped my hands to his ribs and tickled him as he squirmed. His arm hit the plate and knocked it to the floor, breaking the plate and splashing ketchup all over the carpet.

"OH MY GOD! I'm so sorry!! Don't beat me, please!!" he screamed as he tried to get away from me.

I wrapped my arms around him and held him tight as I said "No one will ever beat you again. If they do, they'll answer to me. Accidents happen. Plates can be replaced and carpets can be cleaned. No one's mad at you. If anything, it's my fault for playing at the dinner table."

Billy came around and picked up Jeremey, who had tears in his eyes, and asked him "What's wrong little guy?"

Through his sniffles he said "Father would have made him lick the floor clean and locked us both in our room for the night after our beating. I'm sorry I'm crying. I was just so scared for Jesse."

"No one is getting beat, and no one is getting locked away. What we are going to do is this. Jesse and I are going to clean up this mess we made, so Clint doesn't have to. Then we're going to get a new plate, and eat. How's that sound?"

Jesse scrambled out of my arms and was on the floor in a flash, reaching for the broken pieces of China. I grabbed his hand before he could reach one, and said "How about you let me pick up the sharp pieces so you don't cut yourself. You ask Clint for a cloth and something to clean this up with, ok?"

Jesse nodded to me, then jumped up and ran to Clint "Mr. Clint Sir? Daddy asked me to ask you for something to clean up the mess he made so you don't have to."

Joshua choked on his burger and Troy almost spit his soda out when they heard this. Clint looked down with a smile and said "Come with me, Your Highness. We'll find something down in the kitchen."

Jesse looked at Clint like he had two heads, then said "I'm not my highness, I'm Jesse." Then he turned to me and asked "Dad, what's a highness?"

I tossed the plate fragments into the trash, grabbed a towel from Clint and wiped up the worst of the ketchup. The carpet was stained, and who in their right mind puts carpet in a dining room anyway? I had to look into changing it to hardwood, or tile.

I picked Jesse up and put him back in his seat as Billy did the same with Jeremey, then I said "I guess in all the excitement, no one told you, huh? All my pups are princes or princesses now. The Councils decided they should be dukes and barons."

Jeremey looked up and excitedly asked "Do I get to wear a crown?"

As Chipper said "Does that mean I can kiss Kailani in her sleep to wake her up?"

"No, you're not wearing a crown. And only if she says you can, Chipper." Just then, I noticed a hamburger floating off the table and towards the sofa. I jumped up and grabbed it, then looked over and said "Charles David Fowler Warnick! We do NOT use magic to get things we want. You ask, and someone will get it for you, do I make myself clear young man?"

Charlie looked like he was about to cry, but he said "Yes Daddy."

I stepped over and handed him the hamburger, and kissed his forehead as I said "You need to learn to control your magic, little man. Uncle Frederick will teach you, but for now, you need to have patience."

Joshua sat up and almost shouted "Frederick and Grand-pére are in the magic library!"

Before I could get to my phone, Billy had called Derrick and had him on speaker. "Derrick, have you dug down under the office wing yet?"

"No, there's nothing under that wing."

"There's a secret room under that whole wing. Frederick and Grand-pére said they were going to be doing work in there this morning." I said.

"Would it survive the blast?"

"It was reinforced concrete, for security, so I'm guessing it's solid enough to survive."

"It's only been six hours, they should be ok for a day or so. I need to focus on where the injured might still be buried under rubble, unless this is an order, Father?"

I bowed my head and sighed. Then I said "No, you're right. Focus on what you think is best. Just keep them in mind, and try to get to them within two or three days. There should be food and water stored in there, so they should be fine. Any other news, while we have you?"

"Grace's people got to Papa's office and got a few computers out. They almost shit when the balcony in your office collapsed, but no one was hurt. They'd like to take them to Quantico as well. I thought I should check with you and Papa first."

"Alpha's don't need to use language like that, Son, but I understand. And yes, Grace has my blessing to do whatever she feels is appropriate. If we trust her with our existence, we can trust her with our business secrets."

"I agree, and sorry, Dad, I'm just under a lot of stress. While I have you, I'll give you everything we have so far. Grandma Mary is fully recovered and is down at Clint & Co's house. You know we lost Edward, Sarah, Patrick, and Amanda. Tommy's two men that were on the towers at the front door had broken legs, but they've healed up fine and they're working the gate. Two of the housekeepers were doing laundry, by the garage, and they were in rough shape, but they're going to pull through. We are pretty sure the only ones still missing are Samantha, Frederick, Grand-pére, Amie, Andrew, Pop, Mom, and the girls. Can you think of anyone that's not accounted for?"

"Andrew and Amie were off today. It's their anniversary, so there's a good chance they weren't there. Has anyone tried calling them? Or Frederick and Grand-pére?" Joshua said as he picked up his phone and dialed.

"I thought Frederick was with you, and Grand-pére is always at the farm. I didn't think about either of them."

I heard Joshua talking to Andrew so I looked and he gave me a thumbs up, so I said "Andrew and Amie are ok. Josh is talking to them." I looked to George and Joan who had also made calls. They both shook their heads so I went on "Frederick and Grand-pére aren't answering, so they're still missing. Anything else? I should let you go, you need to get some rest."

"I'll rest after I find everyone, Dad. I'm fine. You take care of Papa and those pups. Love you Dad."
