The first thing that he thought about was the pain that he felt, well... everywhere. The second thing to come to mind was Jerrison. Where was his friend? Hey prayed that brute that attacked him didn't get his hands on Jerrison too. "Oh, good you woke up." The man standing above him scared the shit out of him. "Don't get excited I'm not going to hit you again. You just have to remember something. You didn't see me. It wasn't your boyfriend that beat you up but it wasn't me, either. Got it?" The large man stood beside the bed in his nursing whites. Heath nodded slowly. He was afraid to say anything for fear of angering the hulking man. "Good. Hey, don't take what I did personally, okay? It was just work. I tried not to do much damage but I kinda oopsed with the arm, sorry about that. They can fix the dental work too. I hear your boss is footing the medical bills." "Jerrison..." "Oh, lover boy is in jail. They think he did this which is what the boss wanted. Oh, one other thing. Slow him down on the digging into his situation. If he doesn't keep his nose where he it doesn't belong it may get more than just broke. The boss says next time the person who gets hurt'll be a lot closer than just a boyfriend. Tell lover boy that. I don't know who he was talking about though. I gotta get back to my floor. I was just watching you for Nick while he went to the can. Remember what I said." The man turned and left the room as another man in whites entered. "Your patient woke up." The hulk said. "Cool. I better call the doc." The younger, much smaller man said. "Yeah, cops might wanna know too." He slipped out and the closed quietly. "How are you feeling?" "Like I just went three rounds with The Incredible Hulk." "Ouch," The nurse said with a grimace. "Yeah, exactly," Heath closed his eyes painfully. A detective from the police showed up an hour later and went through the story with Heath several times. He left unhappy but with little doubt that the suspect in custody was not the assailant. His supervisor wouldn't be pleased but there was little to be done if the victim refused to finger the guy as the assailant. The guy he described as his attacker sounded more like a cross between Hulk Hogan and a mutant from another planet. The guy they had locked up didn't even close to fit that description. The mystery was if the attacker he described truly was the attacker, why was there so little damage done? He pulled out his cell phone and called into the station to begin the process to get the suspect released. Heath lay with eyes closed waiting for Jerrison to get to the hospital. He knew once the cops released him he would get there in pretty short order. At least he hoped he would. The meds the nurse gave him had eased the pain some but he was still having trouble getting a good breath or getting comfortable on the narrow hospital bed. A doctor entered the room as he adjusted the bed controls. "How is the patient this evening?" "Who are you? My doctor was here an hour ago." "Oh, just the floor doctor, I do rounds every so often to make sure everyone is resting comfortably." The man approached the bed. Heath watched his suspiciously. His trust levels were at their lowest ebb at the moment. Having the shit beat out of you will do that to a guy. "I'm alive, otherwise, we'll see. You mind leaving me alone, I want to rest." "Certainly, I have something here that may help." The man removed a syringe from his coat pocket. "I'll pass thanks." Heath said. "The nurse gave me a shot before the cop got here." "This isn't for pain, this Is just a sedative." "I said, no." Heath replied. He pressed the call button. "Yes?" A voice called from the wall. "I need some help in here." Heath called. "Everything is fine," The doctor called out. "Who is that?" The man said nothing. He moved across the room quickly, tossing the cap from the syringe to the floor as he aimed it at Heath. "Oh, fuck!" Heath tried to make a jump over the rail to get away but got tangled in his IV line. Two men in security uniforms rushed into the room as the man in the doctor's coat reached the bed. Heath tried to kick out. He hit the man right art and sent the syringe flying across the room where it bounced off the wall and hit the floor and rolled under a chair. The two security men grabbed the man by the arms and pulled him away from the bed as a nurse entered the room. "What's going on in here," The nurse asked. He was the same nurse who had called the doctor after Heath had woke up. "Looks like we got an imposter with murder on his mind; Grab that syringe under the chair, there, but be careful, no telling what's in it." One of the guards said. He was a black man who could have rivaled the assaulting nurse in size easily. The nurse donned plastic gloves and retrieved the syringe then placed it into a zip lock style baggie. "Let's call the police. Bring him out of here so the patient can ret." The nurse said. The guards escorted the assailant away as the nurse came over to the bed. "Aren't you the attention getter today?" He looked Heath over. "Are you okay?" "I guess. I got a little tangled up trying to get away." "I see. Let's try and get things straightened back out." The nurse carefully realigned the IV cables and other assorted monitoring devices. "There you go. Do you want something to help you sleep?" "No, I don't think I want to trust anything right now. That guy said he wanted to give me a sedative. I think he wanted to make me permanently sedate, as in dead to the world." "That would be my guess." "Life just keeps getting more interesting." Heath said. "Don't it though," Replied the nurse. "Rest now, I'll check in on you later." "I'll rest; I doubt I'll sleep though." Heath said. "You never know. Excitement does strange things to the mind and body, especially when they are already weak from a trauma." The nurse smiled and left the room Heath stretched out and closed his eyes. In the space of four days he had met a hot guy, fallen in love, been beaten up and nearly murdered by someone else, what else could happen?
