I got tired of it but I know I had to end it. This isn't how I plan to end things but it's much better than leaving the sries hanging. **************** ordinary love 11 **************** "Is there anyway I could make you change your mind?" Shawn asked Drew in a somber voice. He was watching his friend packing his things. "No," Drew said in a hallow voice. "I need to get away from here." He continued packing for a while until he felt tears falling down his eyes. He sat down on the bed and wiped them away. Shawn moved to his side and started to rub his back. "So things didn't work out between you and Nick," Shawn said softly. "That's not enough reason for you to move back to Dayton." "You don't understand," Drew sighed out deeply as he tried to calm himself down. "I've fallen so madly in love with him and he made me feel like I'm the only person he could ever love. That's why I don't understand how he could do this to me." A trace of bitterness crept into his voice. Shawn remained quiet as he though back on what happened the past three months. At first, Nick and Drew's relationship seemed to be going strong. Nobody knew that the two were lovers except him, Lisa and Joey. Drew was hesitant at first to be involved with Nick but he finally learned to love him and accept the situation they were in. Everyone else thought that the two were very close because they work together. It wasn't unusual for Drew and Nick to be seen having dinner or going to parties together. But none of them realized that Mrs. Greene knew about Drew and Nick. Shawn knew that Drew was worried about Nick the last few days because Nick was distant and always quiet. Nick just said that he was worried about the huge business thing he was having in L.A. But while Nick was in L.A., Mrs. Greene invited Drew for dinner. Drew was nervous but thought it was just about business. He wasn't prepared for what Mrs. Greene was going to say. "I know," Mrs. Greene said to Drew. Drew almost choked on the steak he was chewing as he looked at Mrs. Greene in shock. "I know about you and Nicholas," Mrs. Greene repeated as she stared back at Drew grimly. "I'm guessing that you love my son." "I..I do," Drew stammered out as he turned beet-red. "Then you must realize that nothing good would come out of your relationship with him," Mrs. Greene said in a somewhat icy voice. "All you could bring to him is grief. He'd lose everything because of you. His clients would desert him. His company would go bankrupt. His friends would abandon him." "That's why I'm asking you to leave him," Mrs. Greene continued. "If you truly love him like you say, do what's best for him." Mrs. Greene then pushed a piece of paper towards Drew. It was a medical certificate stating that Fiona Dupree was pregnant. Drew stared at it in disbelief, realizing what Mrs. Greene was saying. "Nick and Fiona are going to get married tomorrow in Las Vegas," Mrs. Greene continued. "Nick didn't want his son to be a bastard. I beg you as a mother to leave my son. You know that he's better off with Fiona than he is with you." Mrs. Greene then pushed another paper towards Drew. It was a check worth 1 million dollars. "That should be more than enough for you to move to another city and start a new life." Drew stood up and left Mrs. Greene's place. He didn't take the check nor said any word to Mrs. Greene. How could Nick keep something like this from him! He literally felt like his world was falling apart. Now here he was, packing his thing and moving back to Dayton with his parents. He couldn't even wait for Drew to come back and say goodbye to him. He knew Mrs. Greene was right. This was the best thing for everyone. "Why not just stay here and find a new job?" Shawn asked him softly. "I don't know," Drew said as he gave his friend a weak smile. "When Nick and I first got together, I wasn't sure about my feelings for him. But somehow he made me fall in love with him. I love him so much that I want what's best for him." "And his mother is right," Drew continued. "I'm not what's best for him. Whether I like it or not, all I could ever be for Nick is a secret lover. You know that's not what I want. Even though I say that I don't believe in fairytale romance and true love, that's still what I long for." "If I stay here, I might give up and lose the tiny spark of hope I have left of ever finding true happiness. I might start to think that being gay means that I can't find true love. That no one would ever truly love me. That even if I do find a person who can love me, he won't do it because he's afraid of a lot of things." "So you're just giving up?" Shawn didn't quite believe him. "I really thought that Nick was the one for you." "I'm not giving up," Drew smiled at him wanly. "I know that I'll meet someone who would love me, fight for me, who would never ever let me go. I just have to learn to live day in and day out without him for a while. But I will meet the right person for me." Shawn was convinced that his friend would be all right. But inside Drew could hear the doubt in his voice. What he and Nick had felt like the real thing. It felt like they were soulmates. But in the end, they didn't last. He wasn't sure that something like this wouldn't happen again. But he was sure of one thing. He'd strong enough to face whatever happens until the time comes when he'll be truly happy. *****the end***** All comments are welcome at: Sliders21@iname.com
