Comments preecherdave@gmail.com A lot of the background has been filled in but there is still a lot I have to do to establish characters and fill in more background. I still need this chapter and most of chapter 3 for that as well. Robert has interesting insights on his last night in Paris. As in Chapter 3, Five Years On, the story will begin to take shape. Previously Timothy came in slowly to dock the boat. When Timothy stepped out of the boat, there was an expectant look on his son's face. "Eh bien (well)? "Pas trop pire, mon fils (not too bad, son). "Quoi (what)?" They all broke out laughing Timothy grabbed his kid in a headlock and said for the first time that day in English. "Don't get too cocky and sure of yourself but pretty damn good." They bumped fists. Luc had done just as well and the two cousins went up the hill talking animatedly about their skiing exploits that day. The day ended with a camp fire on the beach. For the first time, he sat dreamily on the beach with the fire's warmth and soft conversation around him. In his mind, Robert had drifted off and felt the phantom, Anna, come up close to him and put her hand on his naked thigh and then go a little farther until she was rubbing her fingers along his growing cock. He had to cover himself with his hands. He mentally moaned, "Ah fuck." That night as he finished himself quietly in bed, his mind replayed the scene the evening after the grad dance. They lay together naked, touching each other in their most private and sensitive parts. He was kneeling over her and he entered her. He ended spilling over his naked torso as he had finished in her, filling the condom in an overwhelming, explosive climax. He fell asleep with a sense of loss for the first time. Neither he, nor Anna had sent any emails since she had left the city. Present There were a lot of goodbyes the next day. It had been a great weekend and July 1st for everyone. Robert was soon over his sense of loss as he started to think over his next week at work. Later in the evening when they were home and unpacked, he started his research on Paris. He became engrossed in the sites and history of the ancient city. One of the first sites that caught his attention was the Musee d'Orsay. It had many glowing reviews. That led him to articles on French Impressionism. It was a term which he had heard before but he really didn't know anything about it. He started reading articles and was entranced by the background and then the examples of the early style and how Impressionism grew and transformed itself. The internet pictures were incredible. It was the first site that he really researched but it was obviously a top choice for him. He fell asleep happy with the weekend, pleased with his research for work and his first sampling of the tourist sites of Paris. As he drifted off, he remembered the word arrondissement. He would have to look that up tomorrow for its history and where they were. There was no phantom with him this night and no sense of loss. At breakfast the next morning, as they were leaving, he looked at his two dads mischievously. "Oh by the way, I have added the Musee d'Orsay to my list." Jeremy looked at Timothy and then they both looked at their son, "And what is it famous for and where is it?" Nonchalantly in flawless French, "French Impressionism is fascinating: the Musee d'orsay has one of the best collections. I would love a guided tour." He paused. "In the 7th, across the Seine from the Place de la Concorde. Closed Mondays. Opens 9:30; there can be long lines. RER line C, Musee d'Orsay. We could visit the Tuillerie Gardens on that day after our visit to the d'Orsay. There is bridge across the Seine almost right at the Musee." Jeremy muttered, "Smart ass." In the strictest tone which his dads had often used on him as he grew up, "Dad! ... Language!" He ran to the door to escape his dad's attack. They laughed and joked on the way to work. He did his assigned work and late in the week, he made a couple of suggestions for small changes. They were obviously good ones as his boss used them. Over the next weeks, he went to some clubs and some of the summer blockbusters with his friends still in town. He enjoyed the dancing but didn't connect with anyone. He and his friends worked out together and spent some nights talking out on the deck. They went to the cottage each weekend, leaving immediately after work and arriving home at dusk on Sunday. It was a good summer better than he had figured it would be. The third weekend at the chalet had just been the three of them and Luc and his girlfriend. It had been Robert who had casually said that Luc and his girlfriend should stay in the main chalet as they were staying in their own cabin. Luc had given him a nice smile of thanks. Robert went to bed that night a little lonely as he realized his dads had each other and Luc had his girlfriend alone in the big chalet. No need to keep the noise down. He would have liked to be the fly on the wall that night in the chalet, no, not really. He fell back on his left hand. The third week was half finished. He arrived at work ready to get to his tasks. At some point in the morning, his computer screen flickered and went dead. Shit he thought, he would have to find another one; luckily, his program saved every entry he made. His work was backed up to a central filing system as his computer backed up automatically. He heard voices in the cubicle next to him and his phone rang. He answered to discover that the system was down everywhere. Then it flashed through his mind, the boss and his assistant were out of town on holidays. It was just very junior staff and himself. He went to find the junior staff deluged in calls from around the office. Robert thought quickly and walked to David's office. There were a couple of frustrated people with him including Jeremy. They looked a Robert. "Looking at his father, Boss, all the systems are all down in the office. Please make an announcement that we are going to try and get the system running. We'll put in a call to our tech support computer people. I am going back to see what I can do." David and Jeremy looked at each other surprised at his confidence. David went with him. The other young guys didn't seem to have a clue what to do. Robert heard his own voice almost off in the distance. "Guys come over here to the table and sit down. Bring some paper with you. Be calm." He was amazed. They were seated and all eyes were on him. He had given it some thought as he had walked back to their area. "OK, we had a problem like this at the school last year. Here are some of the causes that we came up with for our system crash: an electrical spike, a malfunction of the main filing system or one of our computers did something to the system. Christian, you phone the tech support firm and explain the problem. Boss, would you go with Pierre and make everyone turn off their computers." He put his hand up to stop them leaving and he sat thinking for minute. "Oh, right, there are people absent today; it is summer. Make certain that their computers are unplugged not just turned off." David looked at him non plused. This was his kid nephew taking charge. "What are you going to do?" He smiled and yelled, "Christian do you have tech support? What line?" He punched in the line. He listened for a minute. "I am going to try the simplest thing. We are shutting down all the computers in the company. Then, we are going to start up the main file server. I need the codes for the start up. No our boss and assistant are away. David is with me." Handing David the phone, "Boss, he wants to talk to you." David listened. He identified himself. "He seems to know what he is doing. Give them to me." David looked at Robert who was sitting now at the main file server. "OK, start it up and I'll give you the codes." "Remember that no one is to turn on their computers until I say so." He sat in front of the file server, drew a deep breath and he pushed the button. It went on. It slowly went through its opening sequences. David gave him the codes as they were needed. Minutes later, it looked like it was working. They walked back to his cubicle and with another deep breath, he turned his computer on and in a minute, it was up and running. "Boss, it is possibly important that we don't overwhelm the system. "I want it known that our department will go around and start each computer in my sequence." He told Christian and Pierre what he wanted them to do. They started with David's and it was up and running. They went to their main receptionist and down through the staff until the office was operating again. The IT guys were sitting around the table and Robert let out a deep breath. "That was fun." It seemed to break the mood. Everyone was laughing almost hysterically as David came into the room. "That laugh sounds like a bunch of lunatics. Pretty tense for a while. Right? Guys well done. Take a break. Go for a walk. You deserve it. Robert, I think that the big boss wants to speak to you." Robert's telephone rang. "OK, send him up." "Tell Mr. Marchese-Milner that the tech guy is here and I want to talk to him and discuss what I want done. I'll see him as soon as I can." David did a sloppy salute. "Yes, sir!" With a smile, quietly, "Smart ass." David left his area laughing loudly and shaking his head. The tech guy came in before the others left. The tech guy looked at them all. "Who do I talk to?" Before Robert could answer, two arms pointed at him. They introduced each other. Robert noticed a fairly thick French accent in his English. He replied in French. "Let's go to the file server and I'll tell you what happened and what we did." "You speak fluently." Robert nodded yes. The guy continued in French. "So tell me what happened, what you did and what you want me to do." A few minutes later the guy was running through diagnostic tests that they had both agreed on. There seemed to be no problems with the server. They walked back to his area. "You seem young to be in charge. Robert laughed and explained the situation. "A summer hire? You didn't panic." "My papa is a senior partner in a law firm and he always says that when things go bad, 'don't panic'. Sit, think, look at alternatives and try the simplest thing first. If all fails, panic but it won't do any good and won't make you feel any better." "Smart papa." "You have no idea." They were both chuckling. He phoned his dad's secretary to discover that Mr. Marchese-Milner was busy. So Robert went back to work. The young IT guys treated him as one of their own. It felt good. Later in the car driving home, "So I hear that you called David a smart ass today." "Just using my dear dad's words of a few weeks ago." Laughing, "You have the entire office talking. You know who you reminded me of today?" Robert shrugged and nodded no. "Your Papa. 'I am in charge not anyone in this office, me'. Well done young man. I think that an order of your favourite Thai dishes for supper tonight and a nice glass of sauvignon blanc to go with it. I have a really good bottle in the cellar." "Dad! Not necessary. I did my job." "Son, accept honest compliments with dignity. David tells me that the other guys didn't know what to do. You had them, sit, think and search for answers, just like your Papa always taught you. You took charge. You saved us a lot of money and trouble this morning. A little celebration is in order. Besides I feel like Thai food." It was often a learning session with his dads and then a final comment to deflect. So Robert decided to let his dad know that he was listening. "Thanks Dad." Small smile from his dad with a brief hand and squeeze on his leg. Of course, they went through it all again over supper but there were moments of laughter and of course, praise from his Papa and the final hug which lasted a bit longer than usual. His dads always talked about Philipo's hugs and how wonderful they made them feel. They had learned well. He felt appreciated and loved yet again. The summer passed quickly. Robert had started to organize himself for his trip to university. They would arrive back from Europe and only a few days later, it would be the long 250 km drive to his university and moving into his dorm room. He so hoped that his roommate and he would become friends or at least get along with each other. He didn't know if he was a hockey player or not. Robert was going a week early to try out for the team. Maybe his roommate would be there for the same reason. He already had a lot 'stuff' out. Every time his thought of something, it was put in a pile in the spare bedroom. He had a nice good bye from the staff and an offer to come back the next year. He told them that he would have to wait until he saw if there were any summer jobs with the computer department at the university. They were seated in a row of three seats and they were hurtling down the runway. He had been told many times by his dads so at almost the exact moment, they all said 'wheels up'. He had flown before but never for 7 hours and 5 minutes and never to Europe. He had bought a pair of noise cancelling headphones and after the meal, he had turned off the screen in front of him, put the earphones on and slept fitfully until he realized that landing was immanent in less than an hour. He felt some what rested but knew that the day would drag later. There were the usual line for custom clearance and then luggage. The were soon in a taxi on an autoroute driving madly toward the 5th arrondissement, the Latin Quarter. They had rented an apartment for 8 days. Of course, he had read about the area it was in: close to the Pantheon, the Luxembourg Gardens, the Boulevards St Michel and Saint Germain, the Sorbonne and an R.E.R stop that would take them underground any where in central Paris with some very easy changes to other lines. The dads had said that the food prices in restaurants were high and the food not always that fantastic. There were lots of small grocery stores in the area so they would eat breakfast and some other meals in the apartment. That was OK with him. He was all eyes as he took in the buildings and the speeding cars, many of them were French models that were not sold in Canada. It seemed so different from their city. They crossed the Seine and he just made out Notre Dame off in the distance. He had caught a glance of the Eiffel Tower earlier. He was excited. They were quickly settled in their apartment and they decided to go to the Musee Cluny or as it was called now the Musee du Moyen Age in the afternoon. It was a short walk from their apartment. He was stunned by the age of the tapestries, especially La Dame a la licorne (The Lady and the Unicorn), over 500 years old. In beautiful condition, stunning in its detail and colours. He enjoyed all the rooms and they spent a couple of hours in the museum. It was a great start to their trip. Sleep came easily that night. They set out the next day to walk in the Luxembourg Gardens, tour the Pantheon, eat in a small but well know restaurant and wander. It was everything that he had imagined Paris to be from his reading and more. He was totally taken in by the boulevards and then the small winding streets with old quaint buildings with so many cafes and small restaurants. Even the French sounded different from the French at home. They had a great day but more was coming. He had talked his dads into going to a couple of gay dance clubs. They had protested at first but he knew that they would enjoy it. That night was their first one. They dressed in appropriate attire and took a taxi to the area of the one that Robert had found. He had decided that he would dress the part and would dance if he were invited. He let his dads know that he had no intention of doing anything but staying with them. Anna was gone and he could have some fun. They arrived later in the evening and after a very good meal at the restaurant close to the night club, they entered it. It was his first time in a gay club. There were guys every where, some dancing very close, others talking and laughing with their friends. He saw a couple against a wall kissing and fondling each other. The place pulsated with the music. His dads were a little older than a lot of the guys but they still looked great. He had already seen some heads turn at them and at himself as they went by. He had worn rather form fitting pants and a shirt which showed off his well developed physique. As Jeremy and Timothy had commented quietly to themselves, he was ripe for the picking had he been gay. Robert and Jeremy went up to the bar to get some drinks and it was just natural that they were speaking English loudly to be heard over the beat of the music. They leaned over and Robert ordered in French to the bartender. They had passed a guy whose tongue had almost dropped out of his mouth as they passed. Minutes later the fellow came up to their table and in very poor, accented English asked Robert to dance. He looked at his dads and winked and accepted. The guy walked close to him. "I hear English to that man. He friend, older lover. OK I dance you." Robert smiled. He had better switch languages. In his best French accent, "The two men are my dads. They are gay. I had a girlfriend back home." He gave the guy a smile. "You still want to dance with me." "Oh, yeah. You are very handsome. You must work out and play sports. You look really good. You speak French fluently. Different accent." "Yes, I work out and I play hockey. I stay in shape. I have a Canadian accent and I speak both English and French. I am not the only one who has an accent; you speak Parisian accented French. " He smiled and winked. "Yes, I would like to dance." They danced; at first it was fast and Robert was able to dance like everyone around him. Jacques was a very good dancer and Robert could see that he too was well built and good looking. His pants were even more form fitting than is own. A walking advertisement for his special attributes. He was hung. They didn't try to talk; it was just too noisy. The music turned slow and without asking, Jacques pulled him close and started a slow dance. By force of habit, Robert started to lead. There were some awkward moments until they finally were in sync. Robert could feel the heat of the body. For the first time, he could smell a man. He felt the hardness; no breasts just hard pecs and the different way of moving while dancing. It became clear that Jacques was not going to just dance. Robert felt a hand go down his back and come to rest on his butt. The hand felt around a bit and then pulled them closer. Robert could feel a change; Jacques was becoming hard. Damn, so was he, well just a bit. It had been months since he had been this close to anyone like this. The music stopped. They separated. Jacques looked at him. "I know that I shouldn't say it but you are a very handsome man. I understand what you said about you and your dads. Can we have a drink and talk?" Robert figured why not. He saw his dads coming off the dance floor. He had seen them dancing the slow piece. God they were incredible together. He caught their eyes and he signalled that he was going to the bar with Jacques. They smiled. They sat and chatted. Jacques' job, Robert's own studies and plans for university, his reaction to Paris and France, Anna and Jacques' recent, ex boyfriend. The music had started and they went back out to the floor. The slow piece had the same effect, especially on Jacques. It was fairly obvious when they separated. Yes Robert did look down. It was impressive. Jacques said that he had to visit the WC (washroom). Robert needed a pit stop too. In the WC at the urinals, Robert didn't look down but he knew that Jacques did. They washed and they were walking down the hall. There were a few guys kissing and fondling each other. There were a couple of hands not just down but down inside a guy's pants. Not quite what you would see at the clubs that he went to. Before entering the dance area again, Jacques stopped and leaned against the wall. Without saying a word, he quickly pulled Robert to him and kissed him. Robert felt the tongue against his lips but he didn't open his lips. It did feel sexy as hell. He could feel the light bristle of a late days growth on Jacques' chin. He was kissing a man. They broke the kiss. "I am sorry. I shouldn't have done that but you are a beautiful man." "Jacques, you probably want to hook up with someone tonight." He winked. "You may need it after all this." He raised his eyebrows. "I could sort of feel it on the dance floor and certainly just now." "I could give you a very amazing night." "I could feel that too during the dance." Looking over towards their table. "Sorry but I think that my dads are ready to go. I have enjoyed this evening more than I ever expected. Because of you." He leaned over an kissed Jacques on the lips and lingered a bit longer than he should have. "Well our guy is having experiences he doesn't usually have. Or is this not the first?" With a disgusted look, the one word. "Dad!" He was not going to tell them about his experiments with a guy from the hockey team the year before he met Anna. It may have been how a lot of guys started their experiments. They had been a little tussle over some food or something while they were playing some video games and they had an active wrestle on the floor and had become aroused. They ended up with their pants open and they fingered and stroked each other, no climax. He, and he assumed his friend, was afraid to go for the finish. A couple of weeks later, his buddy mentioned what they had done and told him it left him really horny. Well one thing led to an other and they ended up masturbating each other to the most incredible and messy climax. They did it a lot of times watching movies or while playing computer games. They even sucked each other off a few times and tasted each other. It only stopped when the guy started dating. Then he met Anna. Later in bed, he did go back over the time with Jacques and he stroked himself to a strong orgasm. In his mind, he started with Jacques and then at the end, there was a faceless female. He slept soundly that night. The next day was the Musee d'Orsay. The dads always listened to him and they had bought tickets online for the guided tour at 10 the next morning. They arrived early for the 9:30 opening and were quite close to the start of the line up. The interior was immense as they had kept a lot of the structures of the former train station. They met the guide who was a very attractive young female whose French and figure had Robert distracted several times. He hoped that it didn't show. It was every thing that he had hoped for. He had asked a thousand questions. He had obviously read a lot about Impressionism. They said au revoir to their guide and Robert insisted that they do one last walk through the Impressionist galleries to look at their favourites for the last time. They did walk across the bridge to the Tuileries Gardens. They walked to the right and then turned around and walked under the lovely tree lined paths to the Place de la Concorde. It was Robert who told his dads that this was not always a place of 'concorde'. During the revolution, this was the Place de la Revolution and was where a guillotine was set up and it was the one that dispatched Louis XVI. They walked a lot that day. They ended up eating in a roof top, mini restaurant in Au Primtemps, one of the leading department stores in Paris on the Blvd Hausmann. What a magnificent view. They could see the Eiffel Tower in one direction and make out Montmartre and Sacre Coeur off in the distance in another direction. Sacre Coeur was on their list of sites to visit. The days that followed were simply incredible for Robert. He fell in love with the city as so many have in the past. After the top 'etage' of the Eiffel Tower, he forced his dads to cross the Seine and to have their picture taken in the exact spot that Hitler's had been taken many years before. Sunday morning mass at Notre Dame had cemented the magic and history of Paris for all of them. Robert sat in the huge interior with the organ playing and then the solemn words of the mass handed down over millennia. Somehow taking the sacrament moved them all. None of them were that religious but it was their history, their tradition, their culture. As the wheels went up, a lot of memories went through Robert's head but it was the final Saturday at the Club that made him smile. The club was a little classier and certainly more expensive that their first one. The clientele was richer and slightly older. There were a lot of obviously rich, young men who gave him a second and third glance. They had ordered and were sitting talking. Robert looked around. There were a lot of very attractive young men on the dance floor and more sitting at tables drinking and discussing who knows what. Eventually, the dads stood up to dance. He assured them that he was fine sitting at the table by himself. That didn't last long. Very shortly after his dads went to dance, a young, very good looking, well dressed guy with an obviously expensive hair cut came and asked him to dance. Robert again figured why not. The guy was a good dancer, very smooth. He had rather active hands that managed to accidentally touch Robert all over his body especially in the slow dance. They talked for a minute between dances and Robert decided that he wasn't his type. At the end of the slow dance, he stepped back. "I think that I should really be honest with you. You seem like a good guy and I don't want to lead you on." "You don't like dancing with me?" "You can really dance. No, the two men I am with are my fathers and they are gay. I'm not. I have a girlfriend back home. I didn't want to lead you on. I am sure that you would want more than I can give. Sorry." The guy didn't know that one of his statement should have been 'I had a girlfriend'. It was like a strike of lightning. The guy smiled, "A shame. You are one of the best looking, new guys who I have seen here in a while. Thanks for telling me." The guy was gone quickly, like a lightening bolt. Robert thought to himself that there are pickup lines and get lost lines as well. The same thing happened several times. The last guy came up to him. In very good French, "Hi, I am Andre. There is a rumour that you are straight. I would like to meet this straight guy who looks so good in those clothes and who really dances well. Maybe I can change his mind." Laughing at an interesting pick up line, "I doubt it but I would like to see your technique." The guy laughed right back. "You know, there is a little gay in all you straight guys." Robert pointed to his dads dancing on the floor. "See those guys?" "You mean the older guys?" "They are gay. They are my fathers." "No shit. They are HOT. Just a little old for me. Come on over to the bar. I want to hear the story. By the way what is your accent? Quebecois?" He was surprised that someone recognized his accent. "French Canadian." He nodded. He liked Andre. He had a beguiling smile with a mocking sense of humour. Obviously intelligent. They had a drink and talked for way over half an hour. They got the personal stuff out of the way quickly but Andre was amazed at how Robert was adopted by two guys. Possibly difficult here in France especially back when Robert was a child. Their talk ranged all over, the American influence in Europe, the EU, the political scene in Canada and France. Their hopes and aspirations for the future. After some very sensual dancing, they finally said goodbye with a lingering kiss. Robert had opened his mouth and he had just touched the tip of Andre's tongue. Robert realized that he had really enjoyed Andre. They had clicked in a way that he had not clicked with anyone in a while. Andre reminded him of Anna and their relationship. Much the same kind of person except for the private bits. He realized, maybe for the first time, that it wasn't just sex but it was the whole package of someone who you could enjoy yourself with, a soul mate. Well, the sex was important. He was horny as hell. Maybe in Turin, he would find a female like his Andre tonight. He could still feel that tongue, tip on the tip. He still wasn't sure why he had done it. Their time in Turin was going to be different than Paris. They were going to visit the family roots of the Marchese family. His dad had met the younger members of the family when he had gone over to Italy, like him, the summer before his first year at university. He had had a great time. They had not only kept in touch but Jeremy and Timothy had visited several times over the years when they were in Europe when Jeremy was giving presentations. This would not be long days visiting tourist sites although that they would do some of that. A lot would be talking and meeting family who Robert had not met. He was really looking forward to it. Then for their final days in Europe, they would take the early morning train to Rome and spend a few days cramming in the sites of the eternal city (he had done a lot of research). They would leave Europe from Rome to Canada. Comments I have had some feedback from some readers who were trying to read some of my previous stories. If you go to Authors on Nifty and find my name, when you try to access Surprised Eric and Dave from the Authors list, it doesn't connect to anything. Surprised Graham and Robert is just not there. If you want to read them, use the date and category, Adult-Friends or Beginnings etc. and go the appropriate category and date and they are there and active. If you liked this story, you might want to read the others that I have published on Nifty.
