Robert saw the tears forming. He held Lucas tightly. Lucas started to cry. Robert's only comment, "Let it out. It ... was ... not your fault; it was those bastards. You were your good, trusting self. You're OK. You're OK. You ARE OK." Finally, his crying became sobs and ended with short intakes of breath. Robert wanted to reassure him in a very physical way but he knew that any physical activity would have to wait until his guy came to terms with what had happened. Eventually they both fell asleep. Robert awakened at sometime in the middle of the night with Lucas holding him like a life line. Robert needed the bathroom. As he climbed back in to the bed, Lucas' eyes popped open. The tears started again. Robert decided not to talk. He grabbed his guy and held him tightly. He put hands around Lucas face and looked into his eyes. He kissed him lightly. Like a drowning man, Lucas clutched him fiercely and kissed Robert with a deep, intense kiss. Lucas looked into Robert's eyes. With a smile amidst the tears. "My hero. Did you break that guy's jaw?" "I can only hope so. You don't take on the partner of the co-captain of the hockey team and get out without a bump or two." Robert kissed him hard and suddenly there was an urgency in their actions. Robert looked at his guy who was suddenly erect and ready. "Lucas, take me anyway that you want but I want you in me." Only minutes later with tears in both their eyes, Robert felt Lucas' rhythm change and from the cathartic look on Lucas' face, he knew that he was finishing and that he would be OK. Robert had yelled Lucas' name as Lucas had come out and sucked him to his own cathartic finish. They kissed with Robert tasting himself. They grabbed each other holding the other as closely as possible. Sleep claimed them. Present Lucas opened his eyes from sleep to see Robert awake and looking at him. "You look so incredible when you are asleep. Yes I pulled the sheet down a bit to see that incredible body but the look on your face was almost angelic. Right!!!" Robert's smile made Lucas smile. "Thanks for everything that you did for me yesterday. Robbie, I am going to be OK. After our time together in the middle of the night and a refreshing sleep, I feel great this morning. There may be flashbacks but I know that you always have my back." He reached up and pulled Robert in for a mind blowing kiss. Robert smiled. "What do you want to do today? We could just walk down St. Michel and then down St. Germain into the 6th, the Saint Germain-des-Pres quarter. Why don't we go down and get a cup of coffee and some croissants at that cafe we saw the other day. It is off the beaten path and looks like a local hangout. With our French, we'll fit in." Before they left, they opened their mail to find a message from Antoine with his regrets, apologies and a suggestion for dinner at his place Saturday or Sunday night. He went on to say that it would just be a few friends and nothing fancy. The two looked at each other and decided that it was a good way to rid themselves of the events of last night. They set a time for Sunday evening when they gave him a call. They had watched how Parisians dressed so when they walked in and spoke to the young waiter in rapid, excellent French, he looked at them and asked if they were students at the Sorbonne as he was. They nodded no but did say that they had been at the Sorbonne last night at a dance with some friends. The waiter said that he had heard that there had been a problem at the dance. The guys only said yes and proceeded to order. The waiter talked to them several times and finally said that he heard a faint accent. They finally told him that they were Canadian and that was the accent that he heard. They left and later had a wonderful meal at a cafe which again was off the beaten track. It looked as if that was way to operate in Paris. They had just walked along the Boulevard Saint Germain looking in shops and stopped for yet more coffee at some of well know bistros. They did visit the Church of Saint Germain de Pres. They took the metro and walked around the L'eglise (church) de la Madeleine and up to the Bvld Haussmann. They went into a few of the famous department stores and walked until they saw the Opera Garnier. They didn't feel like a tour. They caught the metro and arrived back at their apartment in mid afternoon. They rested. Well, they rested after a rather romantic time together. It appeared that Lucas had indeed recovered. Then, time for a shower and dress like young professionals. They arrived at the restaurant to meet Charles and Emile. They walked around the areas as they decided to arrive a few minutes after the arranged time. When they entered the restaurant, they saw Charles stand up. He had a smile on his face. As they shook hands, Charles looked at the two. "My, you two do look spectacular. You do know that you will be he hit on at the club tonight." The guys shrugged to say that they could deal with that. He then introduced them to their friends. One was a professor at the Sorbonne; his name was Claude who was a professor of economics. The other, Thomas, was working with a computer technology firm. They were pleased that no one made any comments about Lucas' bruise and cut. They chatted and Claude ran over the menu with suggestions. The menu did not have a lot of choices but everything looked incredible. They finally made their choices and Claude selected their wines. Charles happened to say that they were lucky that they were not at the Sorbonne last night. He explained that a young man had been sexually assaulted by two men. Robert drew in his breath. "That was actually attempted sexual assault and they had used a drug on the person." Claude looked at them. "You seem to know the details. Not that many details were mentioned in the news reports." Lucas sighed. He pointed to his face. "We were at the dance last night. I was the one who was assaulted. You should have seen what my partner did to one of the guys when he found me just in time." Lucas leaned over and touched Robert. There were gasps around the table and they wanted more details. They told the story in detail. Finally the talk was ended by the arrival of the first course of appetizers. They were glad that their story ended and both guys made an effort to not return to the subject. It turned out that appetizers were as good as the rest of the meal which was fantastic. Robert had started to talk to Thomas about computer technology and computer languages that started in the restaurant and continued later. Lucas talked of forensic accounting and asked questions of Claude's area of expertise. The guys seem to have fitted in to the group and Robert was certain that he had seen several approving glances between Emile and Charles during the meal. They had discovered that the professors' trip had been even better than they had planned. It was Robert who had led the way to the club. He smiled as he saw the entrance. This place had so many memories and had been formative for him. Even if Andre was not there, he would enjoy it as much as he had the last time. They walked in and the place had not changed at all. There were still the well dressed young, professional men that Robert had remembered. They found a table and Robert scanned the room. Andre was not there. They got drinks and as the music changed, they all looked at each other and went to the dance floor. Lucas looked at Robert. "This is very different from the Sorbonne. A rather rarefied group of men. You fit in perfectly, the young professional." "M. (Monsieur) Stephenson, I guess you have no idea how you look in that suit. Probably the handsomest man in the room and you are mine!" It was a slow dance and Robert pulled Lucas to him and they danced holding each other tightly. When a fast dance came up, they danced well but they were a little more restrained than they would have been at home or as they had danced the previous night at the Sorbonne. The set ended and they went back to their table. They were again in conversation when Robert looked up and started to smile. Andre had walked in with a very handsome, well built man Andre's age. They went to a table on the other side of the room and joined some young men whom they obviously knew. Andre had had his arm around the guy as they walked to the table. Good, thought Robert, he has found someone special. Robert had almost rehearsed what he wanted to do. He leaned over to Lucas. "I would like you to come with me. Andre just arrived with a guy who looks like his special friend. I want to talk but I want him to meet you." "You sure that you don't want this to be your moment." "No, I want Andre to know how he influenced me and to meet my partner. You'll like him and I know that he will like my stud." Robert smiled and started to laugh. They walked slowly over to the table. Andre was talking to his guy and a couple of others. Robert just stood looking at the group. Finally one of Andre's friends looked at him and Lucas. "Puis-je vous aider? (Can I help you?)" Robert was looking at Andre not the guy asking the question. Andre stopped talking and looked up. There was a moment of hesitation and then a gasp, "Robert! Mon Dieu! (my God) C'est toi! (It's you.) C'est presque impossible! (It is almost impossible!)" "Canadian accent and all." Andre was on his feet and almost ran around the table and embraced Robert. There were looks of amazement on all at the table. "Andre, you helped change my life. I would like you to meet my partner. Andre, Lucas." Andre had a questioning look on his face, one of almost disbelief. "You had a girlfriend at home. You said that you were not interested in men." Robert jumped in. "Do you remember our talk and the kiss before I left. You did give me a new insight on life and relationships. It turns out that your were right." Andre gave him another perplexed look. "You said that there was a little gay in all straight guys. In my case, it turned out to be a lot more than I ever dreamed possible. I really enjoyed my time with you and realized that a partner had to be a soul mate. I have found my soul mate." He looked at Lucas. "We have to talk. He put an arm around both Robert and Lucas and moved them around the table. "This is my partner, Lucien. Lucien, this is the guy I told you about earlier this year. The crazy Canadian, Robert. This is his partner, Lucas." He paused looking at them. "So, you are in Paris, for how long?" "We are here until next Saturday but my dads are coming to Paris Monday night. We are here tonight with two professors from our university and their friends. It is a bit of a story." Andre looked as if he really meant what he was going to say. "I want to sit and hear your story in detail. Is there any chance that we could get together late next week? Lucien and I would love to have you for dinner and catch up." "That would be great. Yes, we should rejoin our group. I did tell them that I wanted to speak to an Andre. Mission accomplished. We'll bring some hors d'oeuvres and some dessert." Turning to Lucien, Robert looked at him. "Sorry, that we don't have time right now to talk. We'll see you late next week. I am really glad that we are going to be seeing both of you." They agreed on Friday night. They exchanged telephone numbers, email addresses and home addresses. There were hugs in parting. It was Charles who spoke. "So it looks as if you met Andre. I have told my friends the story. After they saw you and Lucas dancing, they were surprised about what happened with Andre. They were even more surprised that you had a steady girlfriend in high school last year. Robert, you certainly have made up lost time with your guy." Emile spoke up. "You guys were so close when you were dancing." Looking at Robert, "Andre may have given you some things to think about but I suspect, Lucas has made quite an impact in your life." The diplomat Robert looked at Lucas. "I think that Lucas and I have had quite an impact on each other." The evening passed too quickly with interesting conversation and great dancing that everyone enjoyed. The guys had had a long day especially after what had happened at the dance at the Sorbonne the previous night. Charles looked at them. "We have talked and we would really like to meet your parents. Claude and Emile would like to cook a meal and have you and your fathers for dinner next week." Robert outlined their father's itinerary and they agreed that Wednesday night was the only possible time. It was agreed that if his fathers could not manage it, Robert would phone on Tuesday morning to let them know. They asked what they could bring and there was a resounding nothing. "We shall bring wine. I know you probably have a great wine cellar. We have an expression in English 'bringing coal to Newcastle'." He explained it. "My dads have a taste for good wine and I know that they would want to bring a good bottle. So no discussion. Except, red or white?" Charles and Emile broke out laughing. Charles was still laughing. "Bossy as usual. But correct as usual." He looked at his friends. "They will bring wine. That is always done back home. Everyone enjoys a good red." The guys were off after establishing times for going to Versailles on Monday. Robert offered a quick breakfast at their apartment. They arrived back at the apartment. Lucas looked at Robert. "Andre is not just interesting. He is hot." "Yeah, I realized that tonight. I just wasn't interested last year." Lucas was ready to speak. Robert could see the look on his face. "And I am certainly not interested now either. I have a my own stud. Andre is not even close to you. Besides, he can't play hockey." Robert started to laugh. "Come here." He pulled Lucas to him and gave him a kiss which turned electric in seconds. They stood just standing with arms around each other. Lucas had his eyes half open. "What a wonderful night. I really enjoyed the entire evening. The professors' friends were so intelligent and great dancers. You know I think that we are lucky. A lot of gay guys don't even look at older guys. We are so lucky to have your dads and Charles and Emile as role models. Christ, Charles and Emile looked so good out on the floor." Robert was thinking back to last time at this club. "It was interesting. We must have put on a fair display. No one came to our table to ask us to the dance." Lucas looked a bit perplexed. "So! What?" "When I came with my dads, I had a lot dances with guys. To let them down easily, I had to tell them about my girlfriend back home. A bit of lie but .... Tonight, they saw me dancing with the most gorgeous, interesting man in the club." "Well, I was asked either because I was dancing with a stud and probably the brightest guy in the room. Robbie, there are days that I can't believe how my year has gone." He stopped and searched Robert's face. "I want to officially make love to you in Paris." "That is probably the most wonderful thing that anyone has ever said to me." There were tears in his eyes as he put his arms around Lucas and they made their way to their room. It was slow and intense. They edged many times. They felt so close when they finished just seconds apart. As they finished, they looked in the others eyes and lost themselves. They awakened the next morning with Lucas' body molded to Robert's. They had talked the night before and they knew that they had to get up and shower. They had seen a really wonderful looking bistro that was off the beaten track and it looked so lovely, they wanted to have a leisurely breakfast there. The bistro was open and there were only a few seats available. Robert had been correct; it was off the beaten track. They only heard Parisian French in the bistro. It was mixture of students and locals. They ordered and had a wonderful breakfast. The coffee was superb and the croissant and sweet bread the best that they had had in Paris so far. They would return later in the day to buy some things for breakfast tomorrow for Charles and Emile. After breakfast, they had a route planned that would take them into areas where they hadn't been but it would eventually take them to Notre Dame. They were going to attend mass. Lucas had heard some of what Robert had said to Brett about attending mass in Notre Dame. In one of their planning talks, Lucas had asked Robert how to correctly cross himself. He had attended church so many times with the family and he had just faked it many times. He wanted to get into the spirit of the their time in Paris. Lucas was excited as they approached Notre Dame. As they crossed the Seine, Lucas stopped to just look at the this ancient building with so much history behind it. It was beautiful with flying buttresses, towers and elaborate decorative stone work. There were fairly long lines to go in to the Cathedral but they seemed to be moving quickly. Robert had explained that they would walk to the left where there was a small entry to go in to the area with chairs where people were seated for the mass. They noticed a large crowd of people behind the ropes that set that area off from that area where the people were seated for the celebration of the mass. Robert and Lucas wanted to sit and take in the mass and the beautiful building itself. Robert went first and as he entered that area, he crossed himself. He didn't want to stand out. Robert waited for Lucas who followed him crossing himself; Robert smiled to himself as Lucas did it perfectly. They walked quite a way so that they were close to the altar and the priest. The organ was playing and it filled the area with waves of sound. It was magnificent. They both let their eyes and heads turn to look at the interior with pillars and vaults. They both loved the stained glass windows mentioning to each others portions of the glass that were beautiful. It was clear that Lucas had much the same reaction as Robert had had with his dads the previous summer. They were in one of the great pieces of architecture in the world and they were participating in the mass that had evolved over two millennia. They were lost in thought and reflections of all that had happened to them this last year. Both took part in the Eucharist. They let the sound of the organ flow over them as the organist played the organ at the end of the service. As they stood to leave, they looked around the huge interior realizing that they had taken part in a ritual in a church that was part of their heritage. It had been a magical time for both of them. They literally wandered back towards the apartment. They bought some hors d'oeuvres and some really good looking charcuterie and then found a good wine at another shop for their supper with Antoine. They went to the bistro where they had had breakfast that morning and bought some croissants, sweet buns. They had butter and good ground coffee for the next morning when Charles and Emile arrived. They arrived at Antoine's apartment to find his girlfriend and two other couples who they had met on Friday evening. The hors d'oeuvres were accepted with thanks. It was obvious that Antoine and his friends were living on student budgets. The wine had a lot of comments; it was a very good wine. Robert explained that he and Lucas were lucky as a lot of their families had given them money for the trip. The conversation was interesting and intelligent. There were a lot of questions about Robert and Lucas' courses and their life in Canada. Everyone was impressed that they played ice hockey for their university team. The guys felt so lucky to have made this contact. They saw a part of French life that very few visitors would ever see. They left with apologies from their new friends about the attack and yet another set of email addresses and promises to keep in touch. It had been a busy day and night and the guys fell asleep quickly and awakened early the next morning. Coffee was made and an assortment of fruit, croissant and sweet buns were ready when Charles and Emile arrived. They ate quickly but had a good time going over their days since supper and the club while eating the excellent coffee and food. Their trip to Versailles was uneventful and they ended up in line about the 40th people to enter. Both guys were overwhelmed by the size and brilliant ornamentation of the rooms. The hall of mirrors was stunning as were the royal rooms. They eventually walked out to the hectares of gardens, fountains and pools outside the palace itself. Charles had made reservations for lunch at the Brasserie du Musee. It was not the best food that they had had in Paris but it was great to sit, eat and chat after a morning of touring and walking. Emile and Lucas were enthusiastic about what they had seen. Charles had looked at Robert several times. He finally decided to ask. "Robert, you look more subdued than usual." "Well, just reflecting on the last days which have been great. I enjoyed the Palace and especially the gardens but I feel a bit tired and worn out after the last few days with all the highs and lows. I think that on a trip everyone has a down day. Doesn't mean that that I am not enjoying this or the company." "Understood. I am just happy to see Emile and Lucas so enthusiastic." "You are seeing the real Lucas. He is really bright and he can't hide his enthusiasm. Strange, one would think that he would be the one to be a bit down after Friday night's episode but he is resilient." "You must be looking forward to seeing your dads." "Yes, we are very close. I know that you will enjoy them. As you know my Papa is the senior lawyer in his firm and Dad is the major shareholder and is the CEO of The Accountants. They are well read and interesting. I am certain that they will want to go to dinner with you and Emile and Claude and Thomas. We had a really good time last night with our friends from the Sorbonne." "I suspect that you are having a very different time than many young Canadians have in Paris. Didn't I hear that you are going to Andre's on Friday?" "I am enjoying every minute that we are here. I can't imagine what my parents will say when they hear of our time here. Changing the subject, I would like to wander around the gardens some more and then head back home. Of course, we'll have to check with Emile and Lucas. I would like to buy some food for my dads for when they arrive later this evening. We found a really intimate bistro for breakfast and I think that we'll take them to it tomorrow morning unless they want to sleep in." They agreed to spend more time in the gardens and then go back through a few rooms in the palace. They managed to beat the heavy rush hour with the packed metro trains. They said their goodbyes and went and bought some food for their dads. They came back for a rest. They laughed later at the rest they had. It was a very active rest in their bed but they did fall asleep for an hour or more. They had bought themselves some food as well and had a great supper from the charcuterie (delicatessen), fromagerie (cheese shop) and boulangerie (bakery). To them, it was a almost a classic French meal. They were reading when their doorbell rang in the apartment. They guys were down the stairs and when they opened the door, there were two rather frazzled looking dads standing with several pieces of luggage. First there were hugs from the guys to the dads and then they grabbed their bags and were up the stairs quickly. Both Jeremy and Timothy almost collapsed into chairs. With a smile Robert looked at them. "You look as if you need some wine and food. We bought some interesting stuff. Good trip? You look a bit frazzled." "Our flight was delayed in Toronto and then it took time to get through French customs and of course, there were not enough taxis. Our driver spoke bad French and worse English. We tried to tell him to drop us off. I finally yelled ici (here) at the end of our street." Jeremy chuckled. "Yes, I need the whole bottle. Air Canada doesn't have the best or the worst food but I almost never really enjoy it. Food would be great." Robert went quickly to the kitchen and they could hear the cork pop out." Jeremy and Timothy looked at Lucas. Their eyes opened wide. "What happened to your face?" Lucas chuckled. "A long story that. Let's wait for Robbie to join us. Here, I'll go help him." They came back with a great selection of charcuterie, cheese, bread, some mixed vegetables and the wine." "Guys, this looks just like what the doctor would order." They both had full plates and had a large drink of wine when Timothy looked at them. "OK, Lucas and the long story." Lucas smiled at Robert and told him to start the story. "It started on Wednesday, our first night here. I introduced Lucas to one of those places where you line up for food and eat it standing. We met a student, Antoine, from the Sorbonne and ...." He described it in detail up to looking around at the dance floor and not being able to see Lucas and then the panic search and finding him. It was Jeremy looking at Lucas, "First, are you OK?" Lucas gave Robert a loving smile. "Robbie was so good when they found me and then back here. He let me get my feelings out and then he was just Robbie." There were tears in Lucas' eyes as he looked at his guy. "He held me for hours and I slept as he comforted me and held me tightly. By morning, as he had told me so many times that night with him, I was OK. The police had checked me over at the dance. No broken bones and I still feel tender a bit where they manhandled and hit me but the last days have been great." They gave a detailed account of their last days. The dads ended up laughing. "You have had experiences like very few visitors to Paris ever have. You have seen the major sites. You have had dinner and dancing with your professors and their friends, an evening and supper with new, young friends from the Sorbonne and a great visit to Versailles." "Oh, by the way, we are all invited for supper at our professors' friends, Claude and Thomas' home on Wednesday night if you are agreeable." Shaking his head and laughing, Jeremy looked at the two. "You don't fool around when you do things. Anything else?" "Oh, we are having dinner at Andre's home with him and his partner on Friday evening when you are in Basel." The dads just looked with admiration at their guys. It had been a long day for all of them. They finished their food and everyone decided that it was time for bed. Robert told them that they had found a really interesting bistro. It was mostly locals who frequented it and the food and coffee were excellent. They suggested a late breakfast or lunch there. After discussion, they decided to visit the Louvre as Robert had not been to it. The dads were always game for some time there. The guys celebrated a good day and were soon snuggling up to each other. Robert commented that they still had energy for the important things in life. When they awakened, they got up quietly. They were surprised to hear the voices of the dads who had waited until they heard that the guys were up. It was quick showers and they were walking together to the bistro. Timothy looked at the bistro. "This is off the beaten path. It looks so different from places back home." When they entered, they were recognized by the owner and the waiter. They were welcomed back. To make it simple they introduced Jeremy and Timothy as their fathers. They told his dads what they had had and told them how good it had been. The guys decided on something different. They ordered a croque monsieur for themselves. It was the first time that they had had one in Paris and both wanted a meal that would carry them to lunch. They noticed that the lunch menu was very interesting. This really was a Paris bistro. They finally finished their second cup of coffee and were off to the Louvre. They walked around the glass pyramid outside the museum. Timothy had ordered tickets for a guided tour so they went to that entrance which was not as crowded. The guys would get to see most of the famous masterpieces and then have a quick tour of many galleries. It was not cheap but the dads figured it would be the best way for all of them. They enjoyed the tour and of course the highlights, the Venus de Milo, Mona Lisa, the Winged Victory of Samothrace, Michelangelo's Dying Slave and many more. Robert was drawn to the Gothic and Early Renaissance art. He found the northern Renaissance and early Renaissance in Italy fascinating to see the artists become more and more realistic. Lucas was fascinated by the flamboyance of the Baroque period. Jeremy and Timothy loved hearing the two debate between themselves about the periods that they had fallen for. Of course, they both had fallen in love with Impressionism. They had to practically drag them out of the museum. "Papa, I didn't know what I missed when we didn't go to the Louvre last summer. This was fantastic." "Well, it is perhaps the most famous art museum in the world. Someday, we'll take you to the Uffizi in Florence. It is outstanding as well. You will love the Medieval and Renaissance galleries which are magnificent." When they were back at the apartment, they all cleaned up, had a drink and then went out for dinner. Robert's fathers had decided on one of their favourite restaurants in the 6th. They were taking the guys there for an evening out to an establishment with one of the up and coming chefs in Paris. They had one of the best meals of their lives. The guys were not allowed to see the bill. When they were back home, the guys couldn't stop thanking the dads for the wonderful day. It was Jeremy who looked at the guys with a smile. "Guys, we had do do something that would outdo what you did before we arrived." He looked at each in turn. "No, all kidding aside, we wanted you have the total Paris experience, the Louvre and fine dining." Lucas let Robert take over. "You certainly succeeded. We're spoiled for life. How can we ever out do this day?" Jeremy. "Son, this is just the start for you. Believe me, you will have many more times like this in both your lives. We are so happy to have you here and to do this for both of you. Now it has been a great day but I am tired. I think time for bed. Anything that you want to do tomorrow?" Robert and Lucas looked at each other. "We have been on the Boulevard Haussmann and we would like to go back and do some looking and shopping for things to take back home. Lucas and I could use some fashionable French clothes." Timothy looked at them. "Excellent idea. Can I make a crazy suggestion? The Opera Garnier is close to the major department stores. The tour is really interesting and it is one of the old historic buildings in Paris. If we don't make it, that's OK. Just a possible suggestion." Robert looked at his dads. "We saw the outside if the Opera but didn't have the time to go in. Thanks for a really great day. Breakfast at our bistro tomorrow?" There was definite yes from everyone. Robert and Lucas undressed each other slowly, stopping only to kiss. Hands roamed each others bodies. It was Lucas who muttered. "How can we be so lucky? How can I be so lucky. They treat me like a son and then I have you." Not a lot more was said but a lot more was done. Robert made love to his guy again in Paris. He would remember each time that they did that.
