"Nightly News" A fictional story by Jacob R. Lion Told by Jake At the end of our last chapter "Defensive Maneuver" the TV stations had packed up along with the Immigration van, and drove unceremoniously up our driveway and disappeared. Our crew was tired, wet, and cold. Their faces were red and burning from the snow. It was 3:30 ... time to get everyone inside and changed into some warm dry clothes or PJs ... then hot chocolate and cookies for everyone. The living room was a mess of bodies here, there and everywhere. `Bin' was comfortably snuggled between Kyle and Justin. The conversations were all about what they thought the evening news would be. Kids excited about the evening news? ... ... Now `that' is interesting! We, that would be me, Kori, Liam, Henry and Peter, abandoned the juvenile crew in the living room and escaped to the kitchen for a wine cooler or two. Now just as Kori was handing out the wine coolers who decided to interrupt the adult party? ... Keith saying ... "sorry to interrupt but just wanted to remind you the `News' will be on at 5:30" "We won't miss it Keith" ... Kori answered. ... As Keith sometimes does he stood there ... wasn't really heading right back to the living room. ... Kori was kind of still engaged so he asked ... "Is there something else Keith?" ... Oh no, I just thought I smelled something in the oven." ... I thought Liam was going to crack up; (there was nothing in the oven). ... So reminding us about the news was really Keith's way of finding out what was for dinner. Living with our 4 boys has been eye-opening ... now with `Bin' that's five boys, and let's not forget the extended crew. ... ... "Keith, would turkey casserole be Ok?" ... Liam asked ... Keith smiled "sounds great" he said, and then trotted back to the living room. Very, very interesting ... we don't have any turkey, and I don't remember `ever' having any turkey casserole. Maybe Keith was thinking of `Chicken-pot-pie'. Yes, that must be it. What IS for dinner? I was about to ask. ... Kori had the answer ... "How about Chili over seasoned rice, garlic bread, and to top it off Italian ice cream." Sounds great Henry said; "but if you will excuse me I need to get back to New Haven ... Jake and Kori you won't mind if Antonio and Kris stay with you for a day or two?" ... "That's fine Henry, never a problem with those two." ... Sometimes Kori doesn't tell the truth. ... Antonio and Kris `never a problem?' ... I looked at Kori ... he just smiled and winked at me. Henry said goodbye to Kris and Antonio and was on his way out the door. His last words, in his `Judge voice', "Antonio behave!" ... Liam and Peter said they'd catch the news at `The Village' and to please send Lars and Lukas home right after dinner. ... If I'm counting right that leaves Kori and me with all 9 boys, and who is doing dishes and cleanup after dinner? Kori and I were in the kitchen getting dinner ready ... ... Yes Kori, I do know how to make the rice. ... Yes Kori I did add the seasoning before I put it in the rice cooker, and don't ask I know how much water to add; and yes I rinsed the rice 3 times. ... Kori, didn't I teach you how to cook?; or is that something you learned at Brown? ... I thought you studied archeology. ... he was laughing. "Dad, Dad it's almost time for the news" ... Ok Justin ... Ok Kyle we'll be right there. I was thinking ... so where did the time go and Kori was thinking the same. We just put things aside and joined the crew in the living room. ... ... Something new and very interesting happened. Half the boys long sofa moved to the floor `I think they're up to something. As Kori and I began to sit the "rug-rats" squeezed in-between Kori and me. Not much of a surprise, but then it happened ... `Bin' crawled up in Kori's lap and pulled Kori's arm across his chest. He didn't look at Kori; actually he never took his eyes off the TV. I got an elbow in the ribs from Justin and a nod to look at what `Bin' had just done. ... ... CSB Boston Nightly News ... there wasn't a peep from anyone as the news hour began. "Greetings everyone, tonight we have an unbelievable story, and we know you'll love it!" ... and that's how the newscaster began. Immediately the opening scene went to the kitchen table. They did an awesome job with the story. We looked like an average large farm family with a couple of friends visiting. Then the close-up shot ... the camera zoomed right to `Bin' as he, with a big smile, was slurping up this long string of spaghetti. The camera panned around the table showing each of us, then a second longer shot of `The Judge'. The broadcast even showed us heading out the backdoor to the porch dogs and all ... then it was some shots of the boys playing in the snow. The cameraman faded away from the boys and into a tight shot of Henry and his comments ... `what a showman', a real player; his role deserved an academy award. He made his points; `twice' then the camera zoomed in on `Bin' as he was flying over the rail into the pile of snow. CSB Boston National News ended with a 5-second shot of `Bin' reappearing with his head covered in that shiny black hair and a smile from ear to ear. The news was over. Kyle and Justin grabbed Bin and they were off racing down the hall with somebody screaming `I'm first'. Everyone else headed downstairs ... well not everyone; Ethan joined me and Kori to help with dinner. ... I may have mentioned on previous occasions that Ethan has a bit of a thing for Kori, and I'm not going to say that Kori doesn't like it because in fact Kori does like it. Ok, fair is fair and for some unknown reason Keith has a thing for me. Now I could say that I don't like it when Keith is doing things like pinching my butt, or rubbing my back in a very seductive manner ... but I would be lying. In all honesty I'd like Keith to ... Well, on second thought, never mind that's way too much information. ... at least for this chapter. Right now I'd rather watch Ethan's little moves on Kori. Dinner was ready, and the mob arrived with about as much noise as they could make. Ethan and Kori had a surprise for everyone. No forks ... seasoned rice covered with a thick meaty chili ... no forks, just chopsticks. Now for some of the crew not a problem, for others it was a huge problem. OMG, no fork ... you'd think Ethan and Kori had tortured Lars, and Kris wasn't any better. They cried like 4-year-olds. Ethan gave Kris a kiss on the cheek saying ... "If you're a good boy I'll give you a treat later." ... that caused several boys to snicker. The smile on Kris said what he was thinking about for a treat. I spotted Justin looking at me out of the corner of his eyes, he's 11 and he knew exactly the meaning. After dinner Lars and Lukas reluctantly put on their winter clothes and headed out, and headed for home. Gee ... can you imagine having to walk all that way in the snow, cold, and dark night. ... Well, neither could Lars and Lukas as they started their snowmobile and drove out of sight. Wait! ... Kori and I just realized that means we have 3 younger boys and 4-older, and what already looks like very horny boys. One boy is counting on getting a treat ... I'm thinking if Ethan is too tired to give Kris his treat I'd be happy to help. ... I said I was thinking about it, just thinking. I don't know what happened during the night. It was cold outside and warm under the covers with Kori. The house was quiet so I slept like a rock. I'm awake and the aroma of coffee and bacon is tugging at me. I made a mistake ... that's not the aroma of coffee and bacon tugging at me that would be a `Bin' a little kid standing beside the bed giggling and tugging my arm. Two slightly larger monsters were at the bedroom door laughing. There was only one thing to do ... ... ... I reached over and latched onto `Bin' and swung him over me right to the center of the bed. Oh, the laughter. Oh, those flying monsters nearly killed Kori and me when they landed next to our small mischievous gnome; and he never stopped laughing. Kori looked at me his eyes said everything "Counterattack - Retaliation -- `Vengeance shall be ours'!" ... ... those 3 munchkins never had a chance. We rolled them over and pinned them down. We began to kiss them from head to toe. ... OMG the laughs, screams of pure delight echoed through the house for a solid 3 minutes. It could have lasted much longer but 1-little-monster had to peeee. ... He almost held it ... I think about 10-drops leaked out causing the front of his PJs to be a little damp. ... umm, maybe it isn't pee ... nah he's only 11. ... Hmm, he is 11, always seems to be horny; nah. I had to laugh, so did Kori, when we heard not 1, not 2, but 3 streams of pee hitting the water in our toilet. ... ... Kori was first with the thought and I was in full agreement ... `Time for a shower' ... First I had to check with Ethan about how long before breakfast ... Yes, 20 minutes ... plenty of time for a shower. ... Antonio was helping Ethan? Helping with what? Kori had already asked the boys ... no that was backwards; Kyle and Justin already had asked Kori, and all 3 little brats were naked and stepping into the shower when I returned. I grabbed 2 extra sea-sponges and gave them to the "rug-rats". ... In seconds `Bin' was covered from head to toe in white foam. I was soaping Kori when Justin poked me to look at `Bin' ... yep, so what? ... it's just natural that in the warm shower with Kyle and Justin soaping the `kid' he'd get a little `stiffy'. As Kori and I washed each other we enjoyed the little erotic show going on about 2-feet in front of us. They were just having fun in the shower ... that's all and nothing more. ... Their giggling and pointing at Kori and me with our excitement was a little embarrassing. Worse was when Kyle took the sea-sponge and was going to wash Kori! ... I stopped that ... they laughed. "Breakfast is ready!" ... ... Ok, we'll be right out `Kris' n you needn't send Antonio tell us again. Kori said he thought we just spoiled their plan. Breakfast was waffles with strawberries that Ethan had put in the blender with a little strawberry honey. WOW! ... to finish things off he topped each waffle with whipped cream. ... Just wipe the plates with a damp towel because there was nothing left to wash. Surprisingly Kris and Antonio were the ones doing dishes and cleaning the kitchen. The trio, along with Ethan, Keith, and the dogs were out in the snow getting some exercise. Out of nowhere Kori asked ... "Jake do you have your papers ready for the university? ... I need to get my updates in, so I'll take Antonio and Kris down with me and drop them off at Henry's place." ... ... I was a little surprised, and at the same time happy to know things here at the farm would quiet down. ... ...Kori, you running down to Yale sounds like a good idea. My revisions are ready and this will give me time to help Justin and Kyle with their school projects. This homeschool stuff is lots of work. ... Bin can watch and I think he'll get an idea of what he'll be doing soon. Kris and Antonio finished the kitchen. They packed their things and were ready at about the same time I had 2 boxes of revisions packed for Kori to give to the History team at Yale. ... All the boys said goodbye to each other and were off with Kori in the SUV. Kyle, Bin, Justin and the teens were at the barn turning the horses out and would clean stalls. OMG ... ... What do I hear? ... Nothing! ... It's so quiet. ... Coffee time! The backdoor just shut ... not quietly ... "Dad you think we can saddle the horses and go for a ride? ... I'll take Bin with me." ... ... By the time Ethan was in the kitchen he was already on his convincing argument about how warm, bright, and beautiful the day is. ... Ethan finished with ... "what a shame it would be not to take advantage of the day and show Bin a little of our farm." ... I thought to myself he's a lawyer in the making. I turned, was about to ask him why the "Dad" thing. I caught myself and just shut my mouth. I was looking at him eye to eye. I realized that the recent number of times he has called me "Dad" it's been different than before. ... Before it was to get my attention ... now it's because its genuine, honest, in a real and loving way ... I know my eyes began fill; I turned quickly and stood to the kitchen window pretending to see how bright and beautiful it was. Ethan, you're absolutely right about the day, and that's a great idea. ... Ethan was all smiles and asked ... "Want me to saddle your horse too?" Sometimes boys want to do boy things and having an adult, especially a parent, around isn't really their idea of fun. Today is special, because when Ethan asked if I wanted him to saddle my horse, he was also saying he really wanted me to ride with them. ... I was excited to go with them and said ... Ethan, I'll change my clothes and join you in 10 minutes, he was all smiles and so was I. The horses were saddled and ready and so were all the boys. Bin was all smiles sitting up there with Ethan. Keith had the camera and was snapping photos and video and directing the scene like it was an adventure movie. Justin and Kyle were out in front leading the way down to that `old apple orchard. There's a new narrow road from the `Village' along with 6 new picnic tables set in among some apple trees. I don't remember Neil or Peter telling Kori and me about the road or picnic tables, but it is a great idea for all the boys, including our crew. I do remember Liam saying that part of the activities for the resident boys at the `Village' would be to make the `old apple orchard' their project. Justin and Kyle had made their way to the back of the orchard. Keith, with video camera rolling, followed `The Twins' on their adventure. They were in search of something. Soon the rest of us caught up to the 2 young cowboys who informed us "don't make any noise, and stay where you are! `Dad' - shhh, you'll scare it away " ... ... In a very quiet whisper I had to ask Kyle and Justin what they were looking for. ... ... ... Then "He's here, he's here" shouted Kyle pointing to the ground. ... "Don't move, look the tracks they go that way ...... look that Bear is still here `Dad' he's right over there in those dead bushes!" We looked. ... Justin and Kyle were right. There were tracks, and at the back edge of the orchard just across the frozen creek behind several dead bushes there was an animal; ... A large animal. We could only see little spots of fur here and there. What spots we could see were about the size of a dinner plate, and kind of scruffy. "See `Dad' I knew that `Bear' was still here. He loves our apples and comes here every day" ... Justin was in high gear and no longer whispering when he was telling me that. Then Kyle added ... "look at all the tracks `Dad' he's probably fat, and gots a winter coat n that's why he's out here today." Ethan was smiling, Keith was filming the exciting adventure, and Bin was all into what was going on ... even if he didn't understand all of it. This was truly a great day, an amazing adventure and Ethan, Keith and I were not about to spoil it. There were tracks ... deer and rabbit tracks. There was a very large animal on the other side of the creek, and it had lots of scruffy `gray and tan fur' you couldn't see its head or the shape of its body ... for all we know it may have been Sasquatch. I, along with the help of Keith and Ethan nearly had to drag the rug-rats from their adventure. As we began our trip back to the barn `Bin' never stopped looking back toward the orchard. I can't help thinking about what this little Chinese boy must be thinking. Out of nowhere one of the twins exclaimed "PIZZA"! ... Two horses were at a fast walk, nearly a trot, and were the first back at the barn, unsaddled, and getting a good grooming before they were turned out to the upper pasture. Pizza sounds good to me. ... Oh, `pizza' is a word that Bin knows; he also knows to smile when he hears it. ... The race was on. By the time I entered the mudroom Justin and Kyle had the lid to the big freezer open and were showing Bin the different pizzas. The choice was 1-pepperoni and 1-veggie and a bag of garlic sticks. It's so funny to watch these kids. Kyle and Justin gave the pizza and bag of garlic sticks to `Bin' ... Justin pointed to bundle of pizzas `Bin was holding then pointed to Ethan and Keith saying ... "Give to them" ... Bin smiled and handed our lunch to the teens. I think there is a double lesson there ... English ... and that teens make good cooks. Without asking the `trio' to go get cleaned up (they kinda smelled like horses) Kyle said they needed a shower; with that there was a stampede down the hall. I have to `understand' how thoughtful those 3 boys are; showering together saves water. ... Justin told me that once; ... Thank you Keith for telling them that. The pizzas were in the oven, I was in the shower when Keith and Ethan decided to join me. I know where that was going, and seeing I was already finished washing, I stepped out as quickly as they stepped in. ... "Jake just a little fun", said Keith and I said ... never mind Keith we don't have time for that the pizzas will be burnt! So hurry up! "No fun" grumbled that horny teen. Ethan never made any comment; I think he was already soaping things up or something. I was in the bedroom getting into some new soft house pants, they're like PJs but have real pockets and even a zipper, when the 3-amigos charged through the door with a very serious question. ... "Where's them teens, we're hungry!" I pointed to the bathroom ... the 3-amigos were off like bullet ... I realized the mistake I had just made but there was no way to change it ... they were already in the bathroom and Keith and Ethan were shouting ... the teens had been caught in the act. 3-amigos stormed from the bathroom and stampeded through my bedroom laughing hysterically. Soon afterwards 2 teens appeared and I was verbally being assaulted with "Why did you let those 3 little creeps come in the bathroom? we were...." ... I'm smiling ... that sentence never got finished, but I can imagine what they `were doing' or who was doing what to whom. Lunch was served. Everyone had smiles and I think `things' were already forgotten and forgiven. ... You just never know what will happen or with who or when. Justin got up to put his plate on the kitchen counter next to the sink. On his way back to his seat he stopped, hugged Keith and gave him a kiss and whispered something in his ear; Keith smiled and nodded. Ethan looked at Kyle ... yep; you guessed it ... Kyle got up hugged Ethan and gave him a kiss. Now the funny part ... Bin really didn't have any idea what going on with all that, but he got up gave Keith a kiss then did the same with Ethan. It was cute and the next thing that happened was that Bin got trapped between Ethan and Keith and was getting little kisses here there and everywhere. The afternoon went on with me helping Kyle and Justin with school projects. Bin watched everything, and even helped with making a Roman Fort. He was having a great time. Keith and Ethan were working on an English Creative Writing project ... something to do with futuristic life on another planet. I'm trying to imagine what their story might be like. Will it be `G-rated', or `PG' or PG13 ... certainly not `X'. Dinner was over and we were all watching a good old fashion Western when the kitchen phone began ringing. (not a cell phone) It was a real phone that hangs on the wall, black in color and to make a call you push the number buttons ... you pick it up and say "Hello". Well, I did say `Hello' and the voice on the other end was Kori telling me he was staying a few days with Henry. I hadn't forgotten the birthday party and neither had Kori. He and Henry had made plans for a big pizza party at Zeneli's, and then he rented the party room at Great Wall of China for a dinner party. "The Twins" get their wish. Only one part wasn't possible and that was having Marco and Lorenzo there too. Have no fear they will return to the "States" soon. I now have the job of getting the bus ready. I think I can count on one of the teens to help me, and the other can stay with the 3-amigos. Maybe Ethan can stay with Justin, Kyle and Bin and Keith can help me ... I know work would be faster with Ethan helping me, but it will be more fun with Keith. I'll get pinched; he'll get his hands slapped. ... definitely a plan! Time for bed. Ethan and Keith hugged the `twerps', all 3 of them, and then in a friendly way gave me a little punch in the arm as the headed down the stairs. I was heading to bed with what seemed like a tail of 3-little-monsters and 2 very happy Whippets. ... Wow! What an amazing feeling to cuddle up to them; that includes the dogs too. They were sound asleep before I could count to 10. Under the covers it was warm and cozy. Outside it was one of those cold blustery nights. The wind, not howling, just blowing to let you know it was winter; I don't remember falling asleep, maybe it was a minute or 2 after the boys. Like most nights that urge to make a little trip to the bathroom happened at 3:10 in the morning. I was a little surprised to find I had 3 bodies in bed, but only one was a boy. Kyle and Justin had disappeared. I took a chance leaving Bin fast asleep and took my little walk down to the rug-rats bedroom. ... Yep, there were 2 boys in bed. One was Justin, the other `was not' Kyle. ... ... Keith was flat on his back. His face simply showed that he was enjoying what was going on further down under the covers. Like I said Justin and Kyle are 11 ... they enjoy each other and they enjoy being with Ethan and Keith ... playing games, arguing, riding horses or.... I'll just leave it there; you can imagine the rest. On the way back to my bedroom, with Bin, Silence, and Penny, I took a little look down the stairs. The room warm, quite warm; no lights so all I could see was two dark figures and no covers. Their position reminded me of a number ... 69. I returned to bed, cuddled up to Bin and fell right back to sleep. To be continued ... The morning of "Day 7" If you have a minute please drop a line ... I enjoy reading your comments. Stay safe... and be kind to animals..... Jacob ... ... jacoblion@tutanota.com Please support Nifty to keep stories coming. http://donate.nifty.org/donate.html
