Chapters most often are told by Jake Roberts, however, sometimes they are told by the boys.... A thief is a thief. The meaning of this will be found at the end of the Chapter Definition: a person who steals another person's property, especially by stealth and without using force or violence. A Neglected Boy "The Twins" CII jacoblion@tutanota.com This Chapter is told by Jake In our last Chapter, things were just as crazy as they could be. Kori and I have had fun going over some of the events. Well, there was that incredible breakfast, ... you know the `Kori New England Breakfast' and it is so amazing that these kids can eat so much and be hungry 2 hours later. Who could forget setting up the tents? Now, what was going on with those `tubes' that Ethan was passing around to the `tweens'. Kori said . . . . "Jake the expression on your face when Kyle said `you call them things burgerrrrsssssss' I think Liam was going to smack Kyle." . . . . The best thing was when we were at the Great Wall of China and our two little cherubs, Kyle and Justin, made a mad dash to that huge fish tank and exclaimed . ... "Miss Lee you gots one dead n it's floating on top!" ... ... I'm sure everyone could hear their enthusiasm about the `Dead floating fish' ... but, just in case they didn't they both repeated it in unison ... "Yup, it's dead for sure Miss Lee." Then it was the enjoyment of our dinner and the excitement with our friend that enjoyed heaping his plate and took all the `Chicken on stick'. After all, he was our entertainment when Miss Lee politely moved him to a more private table and told him his dinner was taken care of, and asked if there was anything `special' he would like. He told her he'd like some real Szechuan beef with the real peppers, not those American things ... We all enjoyed his request. Soon a piping hot dish of Szechuan beef was delivered with a new set of chopsticks. He dove into the plate as if he had not eaten in days or weeks. Not being very good at using chopsticks he simply lifted the plate to his mouth and using the sticks shoved the beef specialty from the plate to the waiting open mouth. ... We think he had pushed about half the serving in his mouth before the heat of the "real" peppers hit. Well, that was 4 weeks ago. Kori and I have no idea where the time has gone but tomorrow, we'll head to Providence to watch the Alitalia jumbo jet arrive with Marco and Lorenzo. This requires serious planning. Just think ... Kyle, Justin, Ethan, Keith, Antonio (horny toad), and Kris are all super excited and I can expect in more than one way. Question? how to protect Henry? Oh hell, he's a judge he'll know a few tricks to settle them down. If Marco and Lorenzo are as excited and all wound-up like our crew is ... well, we'll feel sorry for the passengers on that 6-hour flight from Naples, Italy to Providence, Rhode Island. With the help of Ethan and Keith, and I suppose I should include the rug-rats, (Justin and Kyle wiped all the seats and did a good job) we cleaned the bus and drove it into town for fuel. ... ... Yikes! 168 gallons of diesel ... `holy sh....' $567.64 (US dollars). Kori, thank you very much, is reminding me that he wanted to fuel up last week but, it was my idea to just keep driving because fuel costs were going to go down. They Didn't! they went up and, now I am being reminded it's my fault. Home, showers over, snacks devoured in seconds, and the house is quiet. Ethan and Keith had gone to their room and Kyle and Justin had disappeared, hopefully to their room and to sleep. Neither Kori nor I were in the mood for anything other than a good night's sleep. After tomorrow who knows when we may get a peaceful night again; may not be till after the "New Year" when Lorenzo, Marco, Kris, and Antonio leave for Naples. The bed felt so good. I cuddled up to Kori and with the house quiet slowly drifted off to sleep, almost. ... ... Suddenly the bedroom door flew open ... Kyle screamed . . . . "Dads, (yes, plural Dads) tell Ethan to mind his own business!" and as quickly as the door opened it slammed shut. What happened to the stillness and quiet of the night? ... ... the bedroom door opened again and now it was Justin and Kyle standing there, just standing there not moving, not getting any closer to our bed, not saying anything; it was almost like they were afraid to come any closer. Kori noticed first in the dim light that they both had tears streaming down their faces. We hadn't seen "The Twins" cry in weeks ... so what was going on? I think the unison talking thing must be catching because Kori and I both spoke at the same time and same words .... "Hey you two munchkins come get in bed" ... ... Justin and Kyle, not running and jumping in bed with us as they usually do ... instead they timidly approached. We lifted the covers and slowly "The Twins" slid in. ... ... Kori began "So?" and that was all it took ... he never got to ask what the problem was. Justin and Kyle were rattling in some combination of English and Korean something about Ethan, them, no bed with Kori and me, too old, growing up, sleep in their own room, leave Kori and me alone. Silence and Penny had joined in but it was very obvious that something was very, very wrong because they didn't do the slip under the covers thing but just remained at the foot of the bed and, on top of the covers. The boys had stopped talking and became silent. The crying had stopped long ago but neither had begun to relax. Their small bodies seemed so tense. Kori was trying to hold Kyle but it looked more like a wrestling match. When I tried to wrap my arms around Justin, he pushed me away. ... That wasn't going to happen. I flipped the covers up slid out of the bed as I heard Kori ask . . . . "Kyle what is going on with you and your brother? Slow and in English please". I now had Justin sitting on the edge of the bed tears streaming down his face again. ... Then his arms flew around my neck. I was kissing him as I heard Kyle . . . . "Ethan said we're too old to be sleeping with you `Dads' and we need to learn to sleep in our own room and that means on the bus too." Suddenly, I knew where this was going. I think Ethan, in his own way, was trying to protect Kyle and Justin. We would be going on adventures all around the country and in many different states. It's that we all know how the rug-rats like to talk to everyone and we never know what they will say or to whom they may it. I know Ethan's intentions were good but, I think his words were taken a different way. Kori and I let the rug-rats cuddle up to Silence and Penny while we had a little talk with Ethan and Keith. I was correct in my assumption. Ethan, like Kyle, sometimes says what he's thinking and perhaps could have chosen better words and a better time. Keith looked at Ethan and said ... "I told you it would have been better to let Jake and Kori explain." ... ... Geeez it's the night before our trip to get Marco and Lorenzo and we just had to do this now ... right? Couldn't have waited till we got to the farm, could have waited till Liam was around to explain in a way Justin and Kyle would understand. Kori and I tried to explain......... and, while that was happening Justin and Kyle, listening so intensely, fell asleep. There came a very soft knock at the door ... (will there be any sleep tonight?) ... It was Ethan and now he looked like the world had just caved in on him. I motioned toward the kitchen. Kori and I left a pile of kids and dogs in the middle of the bed and made our way toward the kitchen. So, it wasn't so bad it was just after 11 pm and we were greeted by coffee and tea thanks to Keith. Ethan was a complete wreck. Keith said . . . . "I tried to get Ethan to relax and tell him that you both knew he was trying to protect Justin, Kyle, and you guys too." ... ... quite obvious that anything Keith had tried wasn't working. Kori didn't wait, he didn't even discuss his next action with me. Kori had his phone and had already call Liam, good thing it was just a little past 11. Not much of a conversation as Kori told Liam, no he didn't ask Liam he told Liam to be at the farm at noon tomorrow and have his Shepard's Pie in the oven. He gave Liam a very short idea of what had happened. Slight argument and just before he hung up on Liam I heard him say . . . . "No Liam, he is not just going to get over it he needs to talk to you he's very sensitive. Just show up Liam! ... Oh, I love you too." ... Kori's cell phone hit the counter and that was that. ... ... We all took the conversation that Liam would be at the farm when we arrived. Brothers talk to each other like that ... now don't they. Hmmm, Ethan walked over to Kori and kissed him, turned and took Keith's hand, and said goodnight. I watched Ethan when he kissed Kori ... ... You know how I used to say it was how Kori said those 3 words `I love you' when he was just a kid ... well, it was the simplicity of that kiss that said the same thing. No secret that Ethan loves Kori. No one has to ask me ... I know how much Kori loves Ethan and it's Ok. Perhaps best to explain that ... Ethan loves Kori but, he's not in love with Kori. That's the simple explanation, we'll leave it there. What is that sound? OMG, peace, and quiet once again. Kori and I returned to our bedroom we almost laughed out loud I swear it was Penny that was snoring. We went to lift the covers and to our surprise the little twerps were awake and lifted the covers for us to slide in. The rest of the night was peaceful and we could hear the rustling of autumn leaves against the house and the wind every so often reminding us that Thanksgiving was just a couple of days away. Ooh, is that Amaretto coffee I smell ... wait where are the kids and dogs ... gone too is that partner of mine. ... Ahhhhh Bacon. What a great way to start the day. I arrived in the kitchen to find the whole crew all dressed in what appeared to be some of their best outfits and all wearing a big smile. I got a little kiss from some of them and, I'll get even with the one who pinched my butt, ... Keith. The breakfast started with coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and OJ. Slices of Italian bread toasted to perfection and a choice of strawberry jam, orange marmalade, or apple butter was placed in the center of the table by Kyle. Next to grace the table was a huge platter of eggs, bacon and country fried potatoes. Justin handed each of us a warm plate and no one waited to be asked to start. It was constant nonstop chatter. I know it must have taken 30 or 40 minutes to get this ready with all the help but, you know how long it took for us to consume every little morsel? ... ... 15 minutes even with all the chatter and not a crumb to be found. Everyone was polite, we didn't eat like Neanderthals, but we didn't eat like we were at an afternoon tea with the Queen either. Penny and Silence were in heaven with their breakfast that included several strips of bacon. Whippets in this house are as spoiled as some of the boys ... I'll not mention any names. Keith was in command of the 3 large coolers that needed to be packed with cheese, grapes, apple slices and, pineapple chunks and one cooler with a variety of cold drinks. With everything packed tightly in the coolers, the boys loaded the bus. I did a last check of the house to make sure all the lights were off and no water running anywhere. As I closed the back door, I could hear the roar of the bus engine as Kori started it to allow a 5-minute warmup. Justin and Kyle already had Penny and Silence in their harnesses and hooked keeping them in the center of the living area but, allowing them some freedom to visit the boys while we traveled. Our little problem from last night seemed to have vanished as Kori turned the bus toward Henry's house. The bus pulled into the long circular driveway to find what looked like 3 tourists waiting for their tour bus to arrive. Henry along with Antonio and Kris stood sharply dressed with their luggage neatly by their sides but with impatient posture. We were greeted with waves and comments about what took so long. Kori had told them 9 am sharp and it was 9:06 ... guess we are a little late. Handshakes and hugs and the impatient crew boarded the bus. Kori closed the door and in minutes we were heading toward Providence and the airport. Everyone was in an amazing mood, not relaxed, definitely not relaxed, just the opposite ... excited and quite wound-up. I'm not just talking about the boys, no, no I mean everyone and I think Henry was just about the worse with non-stop chatter about how good it will be to see Lorenzo and Marco and how much he has missed them. All the excitement was carried right over to Penny and Silence. We know the signs and knew we needed to find a rest area soon. Fortunately, the next rest area was just 3 miles further. Kori pulled the bus onto the exit lane and thankfully we were the only ones there. The Whippets hit the ground and made it about 15 feet squatted and released about 2 liters of pee. 2 liters may be an exaggeration but it was a lot of pee. Now we know that the Whippets had been walked just before leaving the house but, with all the excitement they really need this little break. As Penny and Silence were peeing Kori looked at me and we both knew what was coming next.............. "Dad I gotta pee" that little song was in unison. The crew led by the Whippets once again boarded the bus. Quickly, with Justin and Kyle leading, they formed a line at the restroom and 1-by-1, no ... 2-by-2 until it got to Henry entered and peed. Kori was the only one who didn't need that break. Soon, with everyone feeling relieved we were again heading for the airport. We arrived at the Theodore Francis Green Airport at just before noon. From where we parked, we had a great view of the runway. The plan was to watch the plane land. As the plane taxied, we would walk to the terminal and greet Lorenzo and Marco at the luggage area. "Dad, Dads that's it there see it Dad? ... Dad can you see it?" ... ... Yes Kyle and Justin we can see it ... I hope Justin and Kyle got all the pee out ... they're so excited I hope they don't wet their pants. The Alitalia jet was hit with a crosswind and hit the runway hard. There was a large puff of smoke as the tires hit ... we all gasped .... nah it wasn't a problem it happens all the time. We made our way to the luggage area and waited, and waited, and then waited some more. Henry was a nervous wreck. Then ... to make things matters worse over the speakers we heard ... "Henry Zeneli please contact the security officer at Baggage Carousel C" ... ... Kori and I thought Henry was going to collapse. Then it hit all of us Marco and Lorenzo are minors and they were escorted to the carousel with security and could only be released to Henry Zeneli (The Judge). Kris and Ethan were first to spot them. I think the entire baggage area thought there was some kind of riot taking place. The security agent lost control of the situation as Lorenzo and Marco charged toward us. Lorenzo hit Kris so hard they both fell over. Soon it was a pile of boys on the carpet. Henry was a little emotional and was trying not to let the tears flow ... good attempt but it didn't work. He hugged Marco and Lorenzo till we all heard Marco .... "Pops, I can't breathe" We all laughed but, the legal issue still needed to be resolved even though the security agent knew our two Italian kids were in the correct hands. Henry had to produce his driver's license, passport, and a copy of the document showing he was the temporary guardian of these two Italian delinquents. ... ... Papers were stamped by security and immigration and Lorenzo and Marco were officially part of Henry's family ... well, they were a part of our family too and don't try to tell Keith, Justin, Kyle and Ethan anything different. We all collected the baggage ... what baggage? ... ... there were 2 medium size duffel bags by the Italian company Cenzo ... nice bags, very nice bags but, not very large for clothes, shoes, sports shoes, jackets. We made our way to the bus. ... E x c i t e m e n t ! ... here we go again with hugs and non-stop chatter in Korean, Italian even some English. Henry, Kori and I didn't understand much of what was being said but the boys did. Whippets had to pee, Justin and Kyle had to pee, Antonio and Kris had to pee and Marco and Lorenzo had to help Antonio and Kris, I think, or maybe they just needed to pee in hurry. Now I hope the `black water tank' on this bus can hold all this pee. After that activity it was a tour of the bus then we hit the road. Kori, with the help of Ethan, sorted out the food and drinks in the cooler while I got my turn at driving this monster. I like driving the bus and so does Kori ... I like driving the bus just as much as Kori does. From the Francis Green Airport, I was directed to Route 90-W toward our farm in Ashfield; that is of course with the help of Keith. I am constantly reminded by Kyle and Justin that Keith and Ethan are the best at navigation. Those two teens are better at understanding computers, apps, downloading, motherboards, dual-core vs quad-core and that includes, Zoom, Skype, Instagram, Tik-Tok, Snapchat, YouTube, Facebook and I don't how many more. Kori isn't any better at it either, just thinks he is. I just thought about what I said ... I think Kori and I need to have a conversation with "The Twins". ... ... Keith just said . . . . "Kori said to tell you that Liam is at the farm and so is Neil, Peter, Lars and Lucas. The trip is just a little more than 2 hours by car. I'm driving just under the speed limit so, maybe almost 3 hours. Everything is going great and, in fact I'm enjoying driving the bus ... that is till Kyle asks . . . . "Dad can other Dad drive so we can get there today?" . . . . You don't want to know what I'm thinking or the words I like to use! No Kyle! ... and you're grounded, and no TV for 2 weeks! ... ... why is everyone laughing? ... ... and that is when I heard Kori say ... "Jake, you sound just like you did 25 years ago and, it still doesn't mean you'll do it!" Thirty minutes later I pulled the bus right down our driveway. I stopped right in front of the barn put it in reverse and backed her right into her parking spot. ... So there! ... ... Kyle just gave me a kiss ... Ok I forgive him. Whippets out the door followed by the crew. Everyone helped unload coolers and baggage for Antonio, Kris, Henry, Lorenzo, and Marco. The driver doesn't have to help. Ha-ha, I already did my work and if Keith pinches my butt one more time he'll be grounded for an hour. He thinks he's cute ... ummmm ... well, he is ... but, I can still ground him! The house is packed with people. Liam is there and did as Kori asked and baked Shepard's pie ... `his' Shepard's pie and not just 1 but 2 very large pies. For just a second, I thought there may be some leftover for a snack later ... ha, then I looked at the bunch all gathered on the back porch and in the kitchen ... not a chance for a smidgen, not a single morsel will be left. Neil, Peter along with the help of his boys Lars and Lukas had set our tables and made a delicious punch with ginger ale, cranberry juice, lemonade, and pineapple to go with dinner. We ate slowly and 40 minutes later the Shepard's Pie along with 2 large loaves of garlic bread had vanished. "Garlic bread and Neil" ... who could forget about when he was a kid. Lars was sitting staring at the 2 kind-of medium duffel bags when Lorenzo grabbed the first one and Marco grabbed the second one. Lorenzo opened his bag and began to show everyone its contents. Yep, 2 shirts, shorts, skimpy underwear, and the same for Marco. Henry was looking at this and asked if there was a box being sent with the rest of their clothes. ...Nope... Alina, the boys' mom, sent instructions for them to go shopping and dress like American boys while they are visiting. Then it was Marco's turn and he opened his bag and he began to pass out little gifts to everyone. Not one person had been forgotten ... even Deputy Morgan and Helen had been remembered ... they'll have to wait a couple of days till Thanksgiving to get their gifts. The bag wasn't quite empty when Marco pulled out 2 beautiful dog necklaces each with their name scribed in bone and gold lettering. ... `Wow' was all "The Twins" said. Penny and Silence knew those necklaces belonged to them. Attitude, as they walked around the kitchen making sure everyone noticed their new necklaces. It was already past 6 pm and tonight it would be just snacks. The boys had all decided that they would sleep in their tents (it's cold) but try telling them that. They disappeared leaving Liam, Peter, Neil, Kori and I to talk about the `situation' last night with Ethan and "The Twins". I know Kori was happy he had called Liam and Liam said he thought he had a good way to explain things to both the tug-rats and Ethan. Liam decided to stay and would get together with our 4 boys tomorrow. The house was very quiet. Kori and I were tired and Liam had already said goodnight and headed to the guest/music room downstairs. Neil and Peter said goodnight and were off to their Log Home. I'm not sure where Lars and Lukas ended up ... we do know they'll be having some fun. Kori and I were delighted to have a warm shower and crawl into our bed. The pleasure of having a large family leads to the need for a good nights sleep; we were ready for that. ... I said ... `We' were ready for that and `WHO' is knocking at our door? In a small and what appeared to be a timid little voice came .... "Dads can we come in?" ... Kori croaked ... "of course, we love having little monsters keeping us up." ... that was the best response and we heard those little monsters begin to giggle. Before Kyle and Justin could get in the bed with us Penny and Silence had scooted under the covers and poked their little heads out at the very top of the bed. ... Justin and Kyle crawled from the foot of the bed to the center of the bed trying to pretend they were just another 2 dogs. ... Then came the truth of the visit. Justin started . . . "Dads, you know how Keif and Ethan are about to go to college and how they are all grown now? ... Dads me and my brother, the bratty one, we don't want to get older and we don't want to go to college. We just want to stay here with you guys even if you did come over on the Mayflower." . . . . That started Kori and me laughing ... "The Twins" aren't saying it but last night's situation hasn't gone away. Crawling in bed with us is protection, their need to know that everything will be alright. To be continued: The story is also available on WordPress with photos. I only ask that you please comment after reading on that platform Thanks. https://aneglectedboy.wordpress.com/ ... *And Now some unexpected and sad and troubling news* ... Dear readers, the following is with the permission of Robert A. Armstrong (a pseudonym) the author of `Schoolie' and the Kurt Series on Nifty. In the past few days, Rob and I have talked through emails regarding the following. Regardless of what a dishonest person may steal the truth is that person is A Thief. A lowlife. When we write we write for the love of writing. We write to give to others enjoyment; it is our gift to our readers. In the past, many of us have enjoyed the undeniable talent of Rob and his stories. It is with much sadness to find that some degenerate lowlife thief has stolen his work for their own gain. ... Following is what Rob has placed at the end of his latest Post to Nifty .... Please take a moment and read it. Thank you. https://www.nifty.org/nifty/gay/adult-youth/kurt-series/kurt-67b.html And Now... My dear family of faithful followers, I was recently alerted by one of my readers (thank you JS!) that my story of Kurt was available as a book on Amazon.com under a somewhat modified title, attributed to a person who identifies himself / herself as "Melinda Robert". I thought that a similar story might have been a coincidence, with `Kurt' being a common enough name. However, when I viewed the book for myself via a copy that JS sent me, I discovered that the majority of it, my story, had been copied from Nifty (through no fault of Nifty's), practically word for word, right up to the end of my Chapter 63. However, it now appears that the book has been removed from Amazon.com, for whatever reason, even though the link remains discernible on the internet. Oscar Wilde said that "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...". However, my work has not been imitated, it has been plagiarised. Stolen. I should be flattered, but I am disappointed and feeling violated, because `Melinda Robert' did not consult me, or even acknowledge me as Kurt's original author. Consequently, until `Melinda Robert' contacts me to explain his/her actions, I will not be sending any more of my work to Nifty. Although I will carry on writing, with many exciting things about to happen in Kurt's life, I will be reserving future chapters of the story for my own review and enjoyment. Thank you to the many, many hundreds of readers from six continents who have taken the time to email me, compliment me, thank me, and motivate me to continue writing. (I suspect that my audience is much wider than those hundreds.) It is possible that, at some time in the future, when `things' have been sorted out with `Melinda Robert', you could see Kurt return (hopefully sooner rather than later). Until then, please keep well and stay safe. Most sincerely, Rob rob.zz@hotmail.com
