Another great story you may enjoy in Nifty Adult/Youth is "Immigrant" by Jonah A Neglected Boy "The Twins" XX jacoblion@tutanota.com ............. Jake, Justin, Kyle, Ethan and I had just been a part of something that I am sure not many people ever get to be a part of. Now we were securely tied to the mooring and we all sat and watched the video the boys had taken. Jake and I still have a difficult time believing over an hour of interaction with these amazing dolphins. Kyle and Ethan kept complimenting Justin on the great work capturing it all on video with the GoPro. I think we were all very tired because "The Twins" were satisfied to quietly sit and watch the video, over and over. Well Jake pointed out that this could be better if we hooked the laptop to the TV with the HDMI cable. Now rug-rats became animated and with great excitement and anticipation we all stepped down to the salon and watched the video on the 39 inch 4K TV and the GoPro is in 4K. I think Ethan was just as excited as Justin and Kyle; not only was the video bright ultra sharp but the sound was awesome. As we were watching the video for the second time I heard a boat come along side and we all heard . . . "Ahoy there" in a loud and very boisterous voice. I stepped to the cockpit and greeted the one and only person that could sound that obnoxious . . . "Hello there Commodore" I said . . . "How nice of you to greet us" . . . The commodore responded . . . "Well you know you are our favorite and did you bring those little "celebrities" with you?" . . . I said . . . "Well as a matter of fact they are aboard." . . . it wasn't necessary for me to say that as rug-rats had already appeared. . . . Quickly I also said . . . "And commodore I am pleased to tell you we also have your best and favorite Yacht Club Launch skipper Ethan" Now Jake, and Ethan had joined us on deck as the commodore went on . . . " Well greetings to everyone I just wanted to get out here right away to invite you all to a dinner and the Yacht Club Tonight. We are having prime rib for dinner and we will be hosting the island mayor who will tell us all about the new additions. Now don't worry about fancy dress just ware the best things you have it will be fine. I'll have a boat for you at 6 bells." The commodore departed and it was giggles and a few laughs that I hope he didn't hear, that bloody old fogey. Geeez the rug-rats heard that. Ethan was now speaking in his best impression of the commodore and combined it with a bit of a British / Australian / Kiwi accent. .... Jake said . . . "Enough!" .... in his very best authoritive voice and then burst out laughing. We had a little conference about manners for tonight and I think everyone understood as I said it in plain English. Now that left us with almost an hour to get ready and to save time it was a family shower on deck. We really were quite clean after all that time in the water so it was just rinse off with fresh water. Oh we kept our swimsuits on. (some readers jump to conclusions all the time, not all just some.) The boys looked very nice dressed in bright new colorful Jamaican shorts and shirts and Jake and I were in traditional dress Bermuda shorts and shirts. It was important I suppose to not offend the commodore. Promptly at 6 bells the boat arrived and we made way directly for the Yacht Club. It was a very nice gathering of about 200 people and I felt slightly guilty for making fun of things earlier. Jake and I were introduced to some of the guests and the 3 boys quickly found other young people their age to play soccer or Frisbee with before dinner. The dinner bell rang and guests were seated and we all enjoyed an excellent prime rib dinner. Finishing dinner the Commodore and executive officer made a few comments and introduced the Mayor. The Mayor thanked those of position and began to speak of the additions to the Island Community and the lights dimmed and our attention was directed to this large screen about 14 feet wide. The video started with this amazing shot of Grace's Cove . . . and a few boats that Jake and I recognized immediately. The comments about how beautiful started until . . . OMG what had the boys done. I knew what coming and it did. Their full screen in Super HD was the dolphins playing ball with Kyle, Justin, and Ethan. I looked at Jake and we both wanted to hide but couldn't and then more of a surprise as the mayor stepped to the microphone and said . . . "Ladies and gentlemen this is exactly why Block Island has become so popular. It is the very reason that people on their Yachts from all over the world are coming to our door. This is why we need to provide only the best of everything to our guests. I want to thank our "celebrity "Twins" Kyle and Justin, and the best Launch Skipper we have ever had "Ethan" for bringing this short film to our attention ..... Thanks boys" Jake and I sat completely taken by surprise as the boys stood for their deserved applause. What Jake and I didn't know was that Ethan had shown the video to the mayor shortly after we had arrived. It seems that Ethan knows the mayor quite well. The mayor did speak and there was a rather boring slide show of things to come. The boys were off with friends but were constantly interrupted by Island residents thanking them for the dolphin feature. Soon the commodore approached Ethan and said they had ordered a new engine for the launch and will keep in contact with him. About 10pm we were taken back to Jabbering and as you can imagine there was a lot more jabbering tonight. The 3 boys were in high spirits but the good kind and Jake and I were amazed that there wasn't any mischief from Justin and Kyle who were glued to Ethan. Soon it was time for bed and who should slyly, very sneakily creep so close to Jake and I but the rug-rats. Jake pretended not to notice and I already had Kyle on my lap. Jake continued to ignore Justin as Justin was rubbing his head on Jake's arm kinda like a cat. I imagined he would start purring like a kitten at any moment. Not getting anywhere Justin kneeled and kissed Jake on the cheek now Justin had Jake's attention. Jake turned and looked at Justin and said . . . "What do you want? You're like a big pesky mosquito." Then Jake grabbed Justin pulled him onto his lap began to tickle and kissed him right on his nose. Justin squealed and giggled then I gave Kyle his little bit of torture too. Soon Jake and I found out what the rug-rats wanted when Justin asked . . . "Can we sleep with you and Kori tonight, please?" .... Umm I looked at Jake . . . and even if Jake said NO! he wouldn't mean it. So Jake just said . . . "Well I guess if you and Kyle are really afraid of the dark......" that was all Jake got out before in stereo we heard . . . "Oh we are cause something is hiding under the bed in our cabin" Jake and I laughed as Ethan bent down and looked under what was his bed and said . . . "Yeah it's under my bed too so can I sleep with you guys just for tonight?" I looked at Ethan and said . . . "Good try Ethan but no, but maybe you can sleep in the boys' cabin and get rid of that terrible thing in there." Ahh Kyle and Justin were laughing and said . . . "Yeah Ethan sic it get rid of the damn thing!" What? What did Kyle just say? . . . . . Oh the expression on Jake's face as he said . . . . "Kyle ...." Jake really wanted to warn Kyle about his language and tell him that if he used that language again it would result in an unpleasant situation for him; but unfortunately Jake had this big grin and started laughing so he couldn't. Ethan did go to the boys' cabin for the night and Jake, me, Kyle and Justin all went to our cabin. Salt sea air, the sail, swimming with the dolphins and dinner had us tired. It was that real good kind of tired that makes you smile when you crawl into bed and shut off the lights. It was cool tonight and we were as snug as bugs in the bed and all cuddled up to Justin and Kyle. I was just about asleep when I when I moved Kyle's hand and gently, very softly whispered in his ear . . . "Kyle if your hand finds it way there again it's going to get slapped real hard." Then I heard Jake giggle . . . and Kyle said . . . "Kori it was an accident not on purpose." But he was giggling as he said it. The remainder of the night was warm and undisturbed and dreams were flashbacks of the days when Liam and I would crawl in bed with Jake. We always felt so secure and so loved; I hope Justin and Kyle know how much Jake and I love them. I woke to the sound of Jake grumbling about the cruelness of the sun. Something strange this morning, Jake and I were up washed and dressed and to our surprise there were two little lumps in the middle of the bed. These two little lumps weren't moving. Jake and I decided to just let them sleep. We stepped from our cabin to the salon to find Ethan just starting coffee and tea. The table was set and everything was out and ready for a nice breakfast. Ethan was just about to ask a question when our cabin door opened and two of the most beautiful, charming, cute little Asian boys appeared. They were all sleepy and just crawled up in Jake and my laps and were still half asleep I think. Jake and I hugged them and then they heard Ethan's voice and for some unknown reason and all of a sudden were wide awake. They left me and Jake looking so cute with their little boxers on and were giving good morning hugs to Ethan, oh and who got the good morning kiss? Ethan. The boys ran to their cabin for shorts and t-shirts and we made up dishes of cereal and fruit with toast, OJ and milk for breakfast. We wanted to get right out into Rhode Island Sound and head for Cuttyhunk. Then Ethan wanted to know if we had time for a quick trip to Grace's Cove he had an idea and wanted to see if the dolphins were still in the area. I really didn't want to spend the time but, ....... Well Ethan really has become part of the family and the look on Kyle and Justin's faces said . . . "Oh please Kori please let's go please." Jake just smiled and knew I had just been suckered into saying . . . "Ok, Yes we can go" Well these are our summer adventures. We soon released Jabbering from the mooring, waved to our friends and made our way out through The Great Salt Pond and around to Grace's Cove. Again the wind was perfect and we were sitting in dead calm water. The anchor dropped, engine off and it was so quiet and not another boat. We scanned the surface ......... nothing ...... not a sign of a dolphin, not a ripple on the water. Ethan leaned over the starboard side and slapped the hull a few times ....... Nothing. Our faces showed disappointment but I think Jake and I had expected this. We only had about an hour and over and over we scanned the water for any sign of movement. Ethan and the boys again slapped the hull and again were met with silence. Jake and I decided it was a good time for coffee and tea and some OJ punch for the boys. We sat in the cockpit lounge area rather bummed out with no one saying a word. It really was time to head for Cuttyhunk. Ethan and Jake took their glasses to the galley and as they returned there was the sound of clicking. We listened and there it was again on our starboard side. We ran to the rail and looked over into the water ...... nothing. We stood motionless wishing to see our dolphins . . . there it was again that unmistakable clicking sound but from the port side. We ran over to the port side looked down into the water and ....... Nothing. Ok what is going on? Asked Jake and just then .................. There was loud clicking from the Starboard side and we were there quicker this time and just then from the opposite port side the beach ball hit Jake square in the chest as he turned. There was a real ruckus in the water as three dolphins came up from the water and moving backwards with what can only be described as laughter. Four more dolphins came out of the water right at the side of Jabbering and squirted water at us and then quickly twisted and returned to below the surface. Rug-rats were beside themselves and without warning or thinking had jumped in the water fully dressed in short and shirts. Jake and Ethan jumped in after Kyle and Justin and I think I was having a panic attack. No one was hurt. What happened at the same time with the dolphins was even more amazing than what happened the day before. Nine dolphins had made a perfect circle around Justin, Kyle, Jake and Ethan. The circle was tight and none of the dolphins were aggressive in any way but they continued to move the boys close to the stern ladder. Ethan and Jake pushed Kyle and Justin to the ladder and they climbed aboard followed by Jake. Ethan was about to put his foot on the ladder when a large dolphin leaned against Ethan; it appeared to almost push him up the ladder. We all were on deck at the starboard side and all 9 dolphins were calmly swimming in a circle very close to Jabbering. Kyle and Justin were waving at the dolphins and hollering at them . . . "We love you" and then just as they had appeared they all jumped high in the air twisted and returned to the sea and were gone. We were happy and sad at the same time. "The Twins" were crying not wanting the dolphins to go. Ethan remained about half way to the bow on the starboard side just looking at the water now flat calm like a mirror. He turned the tears were obvious, nothing was said. Another boat arrived as we were pulling anchor and hollered over . . . "Hi, have you seen the dolphins?" Jake and the boys waved and said . . . "Yes they were here." I turned Jabbering toward the sound and engaged the auto pilot. There now was a brisk breeze and the sail to Cuttyhunk would be smooth and quick. We only had 37 nautical miles at 069 degrees to Cuttyhunk and with this breeze we should enter the harbor by 3 pm. Now Cuttyhunk is not the liveliest place in the world but we need to be here for 2 days. Cuttyhunk is a place to do a whole lot of nothing. There is a nice beach, small, and seems to move about every year. Now we are going for the great harbor, good fishing, great ice cream and some beautiful hiking trails. Now what Cuttyhunk does not have is discos, bars, malls, a single scene, a party life, video games, parking lots, traffic or much action . . . . So it's perfect for me and Jake and the kids too. Remember fishing, snorkeling and reading. Yes all 3 boys have a reading list for the summer! Oh By the way Cuttyhunk is a Wampanoag word meaning .... "The End of Land" Cuttyhunk Island is the outermost of the Elizabeth Islands in Massachusetts. A small outpost for the harvesting of sassafras was occupied for a few weeks in 1602, and some argue it was the first English settlement in New England. The island is located between Buzzards Bay to the north and Vineyard Sound to the south. Check out the 1:15 second HD Video of Cuttyhunk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBcFHOZdaeY On time we arrived in the harbor at Cuttyhunk and while on the sail here Jake and Ethan had managed to rinse out all the salt water soaked clothing with fresh water and made burgers with a great big potato salad. Kyle and Justin had again uploaded today's video from the GoPro to their computer and Ethan has been showing the boys how to edit the video using video pad video editor. Tonight we have decided to bring out our small telescope and use our planetarium program called Stellarium and have a star party. Justin and Kyle had been asking for the past 2 months but the best time is when we are in a protected place with no lights. https://stellarium.org/ Dinner thanks to Ethan, Kyle and Justin was spaghetti with meatballs and of course garlic bread and then the most beautiful star party. The boys were having fun with the telescope and Jake and I sat back and remembered things like the trip to see Jonah, Simon, and Peter, the sleigh and some of the interesting nights with Ian, Garret and Riku. So a few times Justin and Kyle came running to see what Jake and I were laughing about. We didn't tell them about the night Miriam had Jacob and Jake was in his birthday suit ......... or a few other things that happened on that trip. Soon it was 2 am and time to put the scope away and get some sleep. We planned a hike for the morning ..... well whenever we get over to the island. Once below decks it was a quick wash up and off to bed. Rug-rats were in their cabin, Ethan in the salon on the big bed and Jake and I in our cabin. It was almost 4 am when Ethan knocked on our cabin door. Jake said . . . "Come in." . . . Ethan said . . . "I think you should come out . . ." Justin and Kyle were on Ethan's bed crying and everything was in Korean. It took a few minutes to get them to calm down. Jake finally had Justin quiet and I got Kyle, in short sobbing words, to tell us what happened. Justin had a nightmare and missed his Mom and that got Kyle crying as well. This was perhaps the worst Jake and I had seen since we had taken the boys. When it happens the two boys hold each other so tight it's difficult to pry them apart. It took another ten minutes to get them calm to the point that Jake could put Justin down to make a warm drink for the boys; but Justin immediately scrambled to Ethan and was clinging as tight to him as he had been with Jake. Jake and I have no idea what will cause it, perhaps tonight they had been up to long, or the separation from the dolphins had really upset them. What we know is that it is terrifying for them and for the next few nights they will sleep all curled up between Jake and me. Ethan was amazing and did everything he could to help. It was just past 5am when we were all back in bed and asleep. I could hear Ethan in the galley and looked at the clock it was just after 10. Justin and Kyle woke and were out of the cabin in a flash and after what seemed like an endless pee session they were after Ethan teasing and poking as if nothing had happened. We decided to drop from the mooring and head out to try our luck at fishing or snorkeling, something a little more active to keep the twins minds occupied. We left the protection of the harbor and turned to the protected side of the island. Wow to our amazement we passed a sandbar crowded with seals and were able to get this short 45 second HD video. It was a little choppy so it's a little shaky but Ethan says he thinks he can fix it with video editing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12w_3SMSu1U Thank you seals, the seals had captured the attention of everyone and we were headed for some snorkeling and perhaps some fishing too. We found the most perfect place to snorkel at Church's Beach and soon had dropped anchor and were in the beautiful clear water. Church's Beach is a fantastic place for families, ours, a place to swim and play in the crystal clear waters of the bay. Now the 3 boys were in the water first and Jake and I did find shorts and swim suits on deck. Jake and I just smiled and let the boys be boys. *Here is a great site to tell you more about this very small and wonderful island. https://www.savebuzzardsbay.org/places-to-go/churchs-beach/ ...To be continued ...
