Another great story you may enjoy in Nifty Adult/Youth is "Immigrant" by Jonah A Neglected Boy "The Twins" XXII jacoblion@tutanota.com The story is told by either Jake or Kori in alternating Chapters. ............. Jake was serving up this typical Old New England breakfast to our now handsome and `well dressed' crew. Ethan was trying to pour more OJ and milk and Kyle and Justin were trying to drink it as fast as Ethan could pour it. Jake quickly intervened and said . . . "Stop! Justin and Kyle where are your manners today? Napkins in laps, and don't pick up another glass until we are all seated together for breakfast . . . . got it? Capisce?" Wow rug-rats sat at attention with their hands in their laps and nearly looked like they were at military school. Ethan wasn't sure about Jake being so stern and looked quickly at me trying to hide a slight smile. Jake started again . . . "You two are lucky you're not confined to your cabin for the day after what you caused. Those damn crabs tore the charts to shreds, Kori's jacket all torn up, Ethan's finger almost cut off and my best hat, don't even start to cry it won't work, that was my best hat." Ethan quickly pushed a cup of coffee in Jake's hand and I quickly said . . . "Hey lets all eat before breakfast gets cold." We all sat in almost silence eating while Ethan and I were making small talk about the trip from here over to Martha's Vineyard we would be at the Oak Bluffs end of island where we would have a mooring. Kyle had a piece of bacon and asked Ethan politely if he could please have some more milk. Justin was picking at a piece of toast but his eyes were full of tears and they began to run down his face. He slipped from his seat and crawled in Jake's lap and said . . . "Jake I'm sorry I love you, n Kyle n me we'll be good I promise Ok?" Well that was all "old softy" could take. Jake hugged Justin so hard I thought he might break him. Kyle was all smiles and now in my lap and I was getting hugs and kisses and promises I knew they could never keep. Ethan wasn't left out because both boys were soon in his pal trying to kiss his finger. Rug-rats were forgiven and soon breakfast was finished with a few more slices of toast with peanut butter. There was no hurry to do anything the sail from Cuttyhunk to Oak Bluffs, Martha's Vineyard was only a little more than 20 miles. It was a picture perfect day and the wind was in our favor and our sailing time would be just about 3 hours if we sailed directly there. We did plan a little longer day sailing with an anticipated arrival at Oak Bluff about 6 or 7 pm. I charted a course around the outside of the island so our trip would be just about 50 miles and in good wind about 7 hours sailing time. Jake was in a much better mood now and Justin and Kyle were hanging on him like grapes on a vine. The rug-rats know just how to have Jake wrapped around their little finger or fingers, and he is. OMG Jake is spoiling Kyle and Justin rotten now and Ethan is even worse; no wonder the rug-rats are little brats at times ... well maybe not brats maybe just little imps, cute little imps. We dropped from the mooring and were soon out in the sound with fresh salt air as Jabbering leaned slightly to starboard cutting through the water. It wasn't more than 30 minutes out from our mooring when Kyle and Justin were handing Ethan the sunscreen so he could apply it from head to toe and not missing anything in-between. Ethan took the wheel for an hour so Jake and I could spend time with the twins. Justin and Kyle wanted to know what we could do while moored in the harbor at Oak Bluff. Jake was in his element and told the boys all about Martha's Vineyard. Jake and I walked back to the cockpit with the twins and I took the wheel so Ethan could join Jake as he told the boys all about Martha's Vineyard. Justin and Kyle said . . . "Come on Jake tells us what's there" . . . Jake started . . . "Well it's old, it's very popular and one thing we're going to do is ride the ferry just for fun. We're gonna walk the streets and see the houses that date back to the whaling era of the early nineteenth century. So take lots of pictures. The best thing is you get to ride the beautiful horses on the oldest carousel in America if you're lucky you can grab this ring as you go around and get a free ride." Free, FREE, Kyle and Justin were all ears they love Free anything. Jake continued . . . "We can see the `Gingerbread Houses' and no you can't eat them they are real houses you'll just have to wait and see. I think we can rent paddle boards and fish and search for treasures, No Crabs!, snorkel and go hiking on the wooded trails, get real fresh food at the farmers market. If you rug-rats are real good we can rent a car and go to Edgartown and maybe even go to the movies." Movies, popcorn, ice-cream, paddle boards, Merry go Round all had "The Twins" attention and that brought up . . . "Can we talk?" in stereo and the next thing Jake, Ethan and I heard was . . . "I'm hungry what's for lunch?" . . . Ethan said he would make lunch, and then said to Justin and Kyle . . . "but first rinse off and put on clothes your `little thingies' are getting burnt and who wants burnt wieners anyway" Kyle and Justin went into a fit of laughing and danced around the deck singing . . . "burnt wieners, burnt wieners we gots burnt wieners" then they started singing ........... Hot dogs, Armour Hot dogs, what kind of kids eat Armour Hot Dogs? Fat kids, skinny kids, kids who climb on rocks, Tough kids, sissy kids, even kids with chicken pox love hot dogs, Armour Hot Dogs the dogs kids love to bite! ..... Lunch was easy because rug-rats wanted Hot Dogs and so lunch was .... Dogs and chips, OJ and sprite punch. Lunch was finished and we had found this amazing little cove near Chilmark Pond and decided to anchor for an hour or two so we could snorkel. We were in luck as the wind was perfect and the water was like glass and only 10 feet deep. Kyle, Justin and Ethan had all the gear on deck and Jake had dropped anchor as I backed Jabbering down to set the anchor well in the sandy bottom. "The Twins" had the underwater camera ready and seeing we were the only boat around they were in their best swimsuit for snorkeling. I don't think even if there were 50 boats or a crowded beach it would make any difference. The all clear was sounded by Jake and naked rug-rats hit the water, less than a second later followed by Ethan and Jake. I stood at the rail looking at the water it was so clear that you could see the sand shifting gently with the slight movement of the water. Ethan hollered up . . . "Kori hurry up this is so perfect wait till you see all the really bright colored fish." I was just about to dive in when Justin and Kyle were on the ladder, up to the deck through the cockpit down through the salon and into their cabin. ..... I had no idea what was going on and then they reappeared as they ran up from the salon and through the cockpit now with their baggy swimsuits on, not Speedos, the baggy ones. .... And I caught them! . . . I said . . . "Hold on, wait, stop! What's going on with you in swimsuits?" Kyle was first to answer . . . "Those Damn crabs followed us ...." Justin interrupted . . . "and they aint gonna bite my `thing those Damn crabs'". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9GgcfLrmVU Just then I noticed Kyle had the little baseball bat and was about to jump back in the water but I snatched him just in time and said . . . "Ok you two no `Bat' the crab will just run away and it won't bite you if you just leave it alone." (Leave it alone, sure, right) I best get in the water and keep an eye on them or we'll have to rescue either the crab or one of the rug-rats. Jake may need to watch his language because rug-rats repeat everything. The water was amazing and there was an abundant amount of small creatures in the sea grass. Wow there it was Justin and Kyle were right it must have followed us or it was a cousin and a big one at that. The crab was grey/green and blue with big bright nasty red claws; it just sat there staring at me almost as if it was daring me to come closer. I moved quickly in a threatening advance and the treacherous decapod retreated under a rock pleading not to be hurt. We were treated to some of the very best snorkeling we have ever had. There were the most beautifully colored small fish, star fish and Jake and the boys saw something that looked like a snake or eel. It was time to head back to the boat and up anchor and finish our sail to Oak Bluffs. As we were rinsing off the salt water Ethan noticed how big Kyle and Justin's swim suits were and we soon found out why. Justin and Kyle had on their baggy swimsuits over their really good Hawaiian swimsuits over two pair of Speedos. Ethan wasn't about to let swimsuit issue go and started with the questions to Kyle and Justin and poking a little fun at the same time. Not good to fool with Mother Nature or rug-rats. Without warning Kyle grabbed Ethan's swim shorts and pulled them to the deck and held them at Ethan's feet; causing Justin to go into a fit of laughter and joined by Jake and me. Ethan was trying to pull them up but Kyle wouldn't let go and to make matters worse a passing boat was getting mooned by Ethan as he was bending over trying to pull his swimsuit up. Finally Kyle let go but the laughing didn't stop. Ethan was quite red and Kyle didn't let up and said . . . "So Ethan big boy better check your bed tonight and make sure no crabs." Now for Jake and me the laughter was for other reasons but Justin couldn't stop and was teasing Ethan with . . . "Yeah Bartholomew you just better check for crabs in your bed tonight they might bite your `thingie' n not your finger." Ethan made like he was mad and Jake and I were laughing so hard we could hardly move. Ethan grabbed Justin and in one quick move stripped his Speedo off and threw him overboard Kyle was trapped and he was next to hit the water followed by Ethan who didn't have his suit on either. Jake and I watched from the rail as Ethan and the rug-rats played another 5 minutes. The boys, all 3, were back onboard and had rinsed with fresh water as we pulled anchor and headed for our mooring at the Oak Bluff end of Martha's Vineyard. The 3 boys had changed to their nice shorts and shirts and were in the salon looking at things on the computer. Jake was sitting next to me and said . . . "Kori it was so good to see the boys play like that. Sometimes I think about when you and Liam and Peter used to act so silly and the day we were at the pond and that elderly couple stopped. I was embarrassed but Liam and then Ning that other time didn't even give it a thought. I really think having Ethan with us has made a big difference in "The Twins" happiness". I looked at Jake and I think he knew what I was thinking as he put his arm around me. When we lived in Ashfield the house was always full of kids. In and out and we never knew who would spend the night or what bed they would be in. It never was a big deal, the thing was that Jake loved everyone the same and everyone felt that love and we all loved Jake too. Liam and I were the lucky ones to always have Jake at our side every hour, every day. I am not sure I can explain how much I love him but I know he loves me just the same. I want Kyle and Justin to know that love. Our cozy time was interrupted by 3 very handsome boys and I don't know what happened to those other 3 we saw earlier in the day but these boys were certainly an improvement. Jake and I were being served ice cold sprite and crackers with cheese, chips and onion dip. Ethan explained that they wanted to show their appreciation for all Jake and I had done for them. . . . Wait! Something's up! Who stole our kids and replaced them with these clones? Doesn't make any difference we'll keep them. Jabbering was sailing by herself and it soon became a little love fest in the cockpit with a number of hugs and kisses. The salt water and fresh salt air had tired the crew and mellowed everyone out. We neared the harbor entrance and with sail reefed and under engine we found our mooring and were secured on time. On our way to the mooring Jake called and made plans for dinner at Lookout Tavern http://www.lookoutmv.com/ and had arranged for a launch to pick us up at 7:15. It was 7:45 when we arrived at Lookout Tavern and it must be a very popular place as there were no empty tables and its good Jake had made reservations. Ethan had New England Clam Chowda and a B.B. King Burger with applewood bacon. Justin and Kyle shared chicken wings and shrimp spring rolls and a reorder of the spring rolls. Jake and I had Blackened Mahi Mahi topped with mango salsa. A shout out to Mike the owner for the best dinner we have had in a long time. Everything was perfection! Back onboard Jabbering we were tired and stuffed so we decided to make it an early night. Jake and I were in what we would call a very loving mood and I spotted a wink from Jake that said our cabin would be warm and cozy. Ethan also spotted the wink and had that sly, sheepish grin that says .... Well you know what that kind of sly devilish grin means. Kyle and Justin were off to their cabin; Ethan was in his bed in no time and looked half asleep as Jake and I closed the door to our cabin and crawled in bed and pulled the covers up. We wrapped arms around each other as we heard a soft knock at the door. Jake and I ignored the knock only to have the knock get louder and a small voice saying . . . "can I come in?" Jake answered . . . "No Justin go back to bed!" only to hear . . . "We're scared." Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! He being Jake, as Jake is and always has been said . . . "Ok come on but just one warning No foolishness and I mean it." Justin and Kyle came running and pounced on the bed and were under the covers is a flash. Jake and I wrapped our arms around our rug-rats and as darkness engulfed the cabin. There was one last sound as "The Twins" took that deep breath and were fast asleep. We never know if they're really afraid but what we do know is that we don't want them to be.
