Thursday afternoon in Staten Island, NY, Ashley was sitting on a bench with
her iPad in hand on the F.D.R. boardwalk waiting for her friend of hers to
arrive.

While waiting, Ashley was perusing through her Twitter account and came
across a picture of Dontay and Chris that appeared on her TL. She commented
on the picture on Twitter,

`Y'all think y'all something huh?'

As Ashley continued to look at the picture as her the friend she was
waiting for approached the bench behind her.

The friend said while walking around to sit next to Ashley, "Hey
girl. Sorry I'm a little late."

Ashley said, "Oh, don't worry about it. I've only been her a few minutes."

Ashley's friend, Renee, said with her heavily New York accent, "What you
looking at, Ash?"

Ashley said while turning her iPad to show Renee, "My ex-boyfriend and his
uhÉ new boyfriend."

Renee said chuckling before focusing on the picture, "I was in one of those
situations last year. I just had breakfast with my ex."

Renee focused on the picture and got a puzzled look on her face, "Hey, I
know the darker skinned one."

Ashley turned the iPad to face her, "Who Chris? That's my ex's
boyfriend. How do you know him?"

Renee said sitting back with her left elbow resting on the back of the
bench with her hand dangling, moving while she spoke, "Well, I don't really
know him. I've more so heard about him. I have this cousin of mine who
lives in the Valley. Not the part where those media hoes The Kardashians
lives but the middle class part. I think it's called Glendale."

Ashley nodded her head.

Renee continued, "Well anyway. She was telling me about these two cousins,
one them being Chris. My cousin Dominique was fucking both of them, but not
for pleasure. I don't know why because her mother is lawyer and my uncle
owns his own paint factory. She was involved in this sex and money scam
with these guys. One of them got arrested and did some months and one got
off scot-free. I hear it's nepotism at its best one of their parts."

Ashley said looking back at the picture, mostly at Dontay, "Well, I assume
all is solved though."

Renee said, "Hey girl, I told you all I know, you know. All I know it was
scandal flowing all through those rolling, southern California hills."

Ashley said while closing the iPad case, "Damn."

Renee said getting up, "Alright Ash, you ready to go? I thought you wanted
me to show you more of Staten Island."

Meanwhile back in Detroit, Dontay and his mother is sitting on the couch
watching a little television before she has to go to work.

Dontay's mother says, "So how do you like your job?

Dontay said, "I like it a lot actually. It's just that lady who works the
P.A. system is always getting my last name mixed up with Rodney and
Derrek's. She keeps calling me `Williams' when it's `Matthews'."

Dontay's mother said disregarding him, "Boy leave that old lady alone. You
know who she's talking about don't you?"

Dontay said, "Yeah, I do. Well at least I only have to deal with that
during the afternoon."

Dontay mother said, "Yeah, she only works part-time. So is Chris still
coming to the barbeque Saturday?"

Dontay said, "He sure is."

Dontay mother said, "So how is the relationship? I don't need the graphic
details, just are you guys having endless fun and getting to know each
other well."

Dontay said, "We are having fun and getting to know each other. Why?"

Dontay's mother said, "Well you sister was telling last night about
something that poor girl Paris said about Chris when he was in California."

Dontay said disgusted and getting up from his seat on the couch, "Ugh what
ma? Ryane was trying to tell me something about him but didn't know the
details. Why is everyone against Chris all of sudden?"

Dontay's mother got up and stood in front of him and said, "Look son, no
one is against Chris. But from what your sister did tell me, just make sure
you get to know him a little better. Strangely, though it seemed Ryane
wasn't telling all she knew."

Dontay said, "Ma, you know me. I'm not gonna get caught up in anything. I
read people well and I will watch out for myself. I actually do wanna talk
to Chris about something."

Dontay mother said as she motioned for them to sit on the couch on the
other side of the living room, "What, `Tay?"

Dontay said, "Well, on Monday Chris came to the hospital to have lunch with
me andÉ"

Dontay's mother said, "Ok, son if it's about sex you can tell me."

Dontay said, "Are you sure?" His mother nodded and he continued, "Well, we
got to the subject of that and I suggested both of us take the mature
approach and get tested."

Dontay's mother said with a slight smile, "That's good Dontay."

Dontay continued, "Well we got the test done and when we got our results
and they read `negative' Ð of course I was happy but in my mind there
was no doubt, but when Chris read hisÉ he had more of a look of relief
on his face."

Dontay's mother said looking at him with a concerned eye, "Oh really." Now
folding her arms.

Dontay said, "I didn't realize it until later that night when I thought
back on it."

Dontay's mother said, "You know what? There is one thing I did right was
raise some intelligent, aware kids. Question Chris and if his answer
doesn't sit well with you Ð wash your hands of the whole damn deal."

Dontay said, "That's how I roll." Giving his mother some dap with their
fist balled up."

Dontay's mother then said, "Oh guess who I saw at bank yesterday?"

Dontay said, "Who?"

She said, "Robert. You know Robert Carter who lived across the street with
his son. The boy who you were so close to."

He said, "Oh yeah. I ran into his son a couple of times this week."

His mother said, "Robert used to tell me how close you too were."

Dontay said with his mind racing about how close they really were, "We
weren't that close."

She said, "Look Robert and I already talked about you and his son's
closeness when we had a quick lunch yesterday."

Dontay said after she turned his head with worried look upon his face,
"What you mean? Mr. Carter knows and you know?"

She said, "Yes, I do. Robert said he used to hear you coming in through his
back door that summer when his son lived with him and when he son would
leave to come here. He questioned Robert, Jr. about that, he said, the
third time he heard you coming in."

Dontay said trying to clean the slate, "Well, it was a couple of years
ago."

His mother said, "Don't try to dumb it down. I'm not mad if that is what
you think. Robert said he wish you two boys would have just told us about
the changes you were going through then. Especially with me, I feel I've
missed two years of really knowing you."

Dontay said, "You've always known me. I'm the same spoiled brat I've always
been."

His mother said rubbing his head, "Yeah I know. And if things don't work
out Chris and you still want to date guys, Robert would be good catch."

Dontay said, "If that were to happen, I could be Robert. Ma, I know
you. You and Mr. Carter is going to have another lunch date."

His mother said, "Hell naw, boy. I've been there and I've done that. Let me
tell you something. When you were with his son, I was seeing his father."

Dontay said, "Wow, that is too weird."

His mother said with her nose turned up, "I know right. Ok let me finish
getting ready for work."

Dontay said, "Alright ma. Love you."

She said, "Love you too. And text you sister and tell her to hurry back
from the mall."

Dontay said, "Ok."

At a mall on the outskirts of the city, Ryane and her partner in crime,
Paris was shopping. Going in and out of their favorite stores, like Forever
21 and H&M. While walking through the mall, Ryane and Paris were looking
through the display windows, taking looks at what the stores had to offer.

While walking through the mall, Paris looks over to the other side and
notices Chris doing the same as they were. Simply browsing with a couple of
bags in his hands.

Paris says, "Hey, Ryane, there's Chris?"

Ryane looks over and says, "Humph, I see him."

Paris says looking at Ryane, "Girl, what's wrong? I know you're not still
tripping over what I told you about Chris are you?"

Ryane says, "Why wouldn't I be? He may not be good for brother. I mean,
though your facts are all over the place, what you did tell me is worry the
hell out of me."

Paris said, trying to ease her mind, "Girl, according to my cousins in
L.A. it's over and done with. Don't worry."

Ryane said, "All right, I guess."

Ryane then receives a text message from Dontay.

`Hurry your ass home!'

She responds,

`Boy, I'll be there. Better watch who you talking to!"

Ryane says to Paris, "Alright. Girl, we got to go."

Paris said reaching into her purse for her keys and said, "Ok, let me go in
this store real quick. Just go to the car and wait for me. I won't be
long."

Ryane said while, "Alright. Hurry up, girl."

While she was walking towards the mall exit, she saw this guy that caught
her eye and she obviously her his because they both were gazing at each
other, smiling. When Ryane turned the corner, he accidently bumped into
someone. She dropped one of her bags and said,

"Damn, I'm sorry."

The person said, "That's alright."

Ryane looked up and said, "Oh, Chris?"

Chris said, "Hey Ryane."

Ryane said, a little standoff-ish, "What's up Chris?"

Chris said, noticing her standoff attitude, "UhÉ nothing much, just
doing a little shopping. I see you're doing the same."

Ryane said, "Yeah, I was just leaving."

Chris then said, "Is your brother with you?"

Ryane said, "No, he isn't."

Chris said, "Is everything alright?"

Ryane said, "Uh, yeah. I just got a text from my uhÉ uhÉ mother
telling me to hurry home."

Chris cell phone starts ringing and says, "Ok alright. See you at the
barbeque Saturday."

Ryane said disregarding him, "Sure." She walks away

Chris looks at his phone and said to himself, "Who in the hell is this?"
Not recognizing the number.

He says after answering the phone, "Hello?"

The voice on the other line said, "Ha ha, what's up cousin?"

Chris said, in shock, "Nino? Is this you?"

Nino said, "You know it. What's up boy?"

Chris said, "How in the hell did you get my number?"

Nino said, "I got it from your punk ass father, remember my big brother?"

Chris said, "What do you want? And what are you doing out of jail?"

Nino said, "Technicality. Found out our sex scam went beyond L.A."

Chris said, "Well good for you. Now what do you want from me?"

Nino said, "Just to say `what's up' to my favorite nephew/cousin. How you
doing?"

Chris said, "Good. Real good."

Nino said, "Well, that's good. Enjoy it while it last."

Nino hangs up leaving Chris puzzled and feeling a little worried, but then
Chris thought to himself that it's no big deal if Nino had his number, he's
all the way in L.A., there was really no way he could ever make it to
Detroit.

The next day Friday, Dontay calls Chris and tell him to meet him at the
Starbucks near the shopping mall. Dontay really need to clear the air on
how he was feeling about Chris' reaction to the test results.

Dontay arrived at the coffee shop wearing a pair of red, white and black
Jordan basketball shorts with a black t-shirt and shoes to match.

He walked in a saw Chris entering at the same time from the other entrance
with him wearing a pair of blue Levis and white t-shirt, blue hat and white
Air Force Ones.

Chris sees Dontay and he smiles and they hug. Not too much, just a light
hug Ð keeping everything subtle in public.

They order their beverages and sit down at a table. Engaging in a light
conversation before Dontay decided to discuss what was bothering him.

Chris said, "I've been missing you since I last seen you Monday."

Dontay said slightly smiling, "Really? I've missed you too."

Chris said, "That's good `Tay. Can't wait for the barbeque tomorrow."

Dontay said after sipping his Frappuccino, "Yeah it should be nice. Um, I
want to talk to you about something."

Chris said, "What's up, `Tay?"

Dontay said, "Well this may not be a serious as it is in my mind but
remember Monday when we got tested and our results said `negative'?"

Chris said, "Yeah, of course."

Dontay continued on, "Well I noticed when you looked at the results, you
had more of a relief look on your face rather than just being happy and
knowing that it was going to be negative. You seemed unsure."

Chris said, "Well, I mean, we're young but we both a some sort of a past."

Dontay said, "That's true but my past is clear and everybody I've been with
was a first for both of us. I know you past is a little more deeper than
mine."

Chris said, getting a little defensive, "So what are you trying to say?"

Dontay getting a little louder, "I'm not trying to say a damn thing. I just
want to know if you're letting me in on everything about you. Are you
hiding something?"

Chris moved a little closer to Dontay and said, "Ok, look me in my eyes. I
know my past is a little deeper and more rugged than yours have been in
these two years, but let me tell you I am not hiding anything from
you. Trust me, I am not hiding nothing from you."

Dontay saw the sincerity in Chris' eyes and from Chris' point of view he
has told Dontay mostly everything. He told him about his fall out with his
cousin over a girl and money. In a nutshell that is the truth, though Chris
did know that it was much deeper than just that.

Dontay said, "I believe you, Chris." He looked around and saw that no one
was looking in their direction, Dontay leaned forward and kiss Chris on the
lips.

When Dontay leaned back against his seat and he looked over at the door and
saw Robert and his girlfriend Jasmine walked in.

Robert looked over to where Dontay was seating and said, "Hey what's up,
`Tay?"

Dontay said, "Hey."

Chris looked over his shoulder to see who Dontay was talking to, he says
looking back at Dontay, "Who's that?"

Dontay says, "A good friend of mine. He used to live across the street from
me."

Robert walked over after Dontay signaled for him to do so. Robert said,
"Didn't think I'd see you again this soon."

Dontay said, "I know right. How you doing, Jasmine?"

Jasmine says, "I'm good Dontay. You?"

Dontay said, "I'm good actually. Hey I'd like you two to meet myÉ my
friend Chris."

Robert looks over a Dontay and then Chris and says, "Nice to meet you bro."

Chris says, "Me too."

Robert then says to his girlfriend, "Babe, why won't get our drinks, ok?"

Jasmine says, "Alright. See you guys later."

Dontay says, "Alright."

Chris then says, "You know what, Dontay I'm gonna go, let you guys
talk. I'll talk to you later."

Dontay says, "Alright." And when Robert wasn't looking Chris makes a
kissing motion with his lips.

Robert sits down and says, "So you two are friends? Just friends?"

Dontay says, "Yeah."

Robert chuckles and says, "Ol' Dontay. Still discreet as hell. You could've
said Chris is your boyfriend."

Dontay said, "Really? In front of your girl?"

Robert said, "Yeah. She knows about me being bisexual and she somewhat
knows about us."

Dontay said, "What you mean `somewhat'?"

Robert said, "I just told her you was the first guy I've ever kissed."

Dontay said, "Oh ok."

Robert said, "And as for Jasmine, I don't know how long she's going to be
my girl."

Dontay said, "Why is that?"

Robert said looking over at Jasmine at the counter, "She's going to
Spellman next month. I said I wanted to try the long distance thing but I
don't think she's really feeling it."

Dontay said, "Is it heart breaking on your part?"

Robert said, "Yes and no. I mean I love her, but I'm not in love."

Dontay said, "What a dilemma."

Robert then said looking at Dontay, "I think I let the person I was in love
with get away."

Dontay was shocked at his statement, knowing it was about him. Dontay
remembered the feelings the two had though it didn't last long once he
moved to Miami with his mother.

Jasmine walks over, "Rob, we're going to the movies or what?"

Robert says, "Yes, Jas, we're going."

Jasmine says, "Seen you Dontay."

Dontay says, "Alright Jasmine."

Dontay gets out of his seat and looks over at Robert and Jasmine leaving.
With Robert letting Jasmine exit first, he looks back at Dontay and makes a
kissing motion with lips at him.

Inside Dontay was flattered by it and it didn't bother him. Dontay was a
bright person, though he believed Chris in what he said, he was starting to
feel that maybe the quick spark that was felt was fading, at least on his
part because he was not a person who was into beating around the bush like
Chris seemingly was.
