Chapter 47 - All Good Things Must Come to an End.

When we finished breakfast on Thursday morning, we talked about what we were going to do next.  A couple of the boys wanted to check out one of the areas we'd seen during our hike on Monday, because we'd spotted a couple of crude shelters there.  Since there was some disagreement over who might have made them, they wanted to take a closer look.

For my part, I assumed the shelters had been made by some campers who'd grown bored and were hoping to do something more exciting while staying at the camp ground.  The shelters might have even been constructed by some bored kids, but the boys had a different theory.  Since their minds were much more creative and open to unconventional ideas, they'd concluded the shelters had been made by Bigfoot, or some equally scary creature.  I obviously didn't agree with their analysis and wanted to take them back for a closer look, hopefully so I could convince them they were wrong.

When we came to the first shelter, which had been constructed in a cluster of bushes located near a small grove of trees, we studied it more closely.  Whoever had made it had used parts of the other bushes, along with a few slender branches taken from various trees in the area to put it together.  It was in the shape of a horseshoe and basically closed in on three sides, so the only opening was overlooking a small field.

"If you ask me, this looks like a blind a hunter might use to keep from being spotted by his prey," I told them.

"It also looks like something I saw on a TV program and was suspected of being a nest built by Bigfoot," Simon disagreed.

I merely rolled my eyes and wondered which theory the other boys agreed with as we went inside to investigate the interior of the shelter.  After looking around for a minute, Jeremy found something that he brought to our attention.

"Hey, there's a candy bar wrapper in here that someone wadded up and threw away."

"I suspect the candy bar was eaten by the hunter or youngster who made this shelter, and then he just tossed the wrapper aside after he'd finished eating it," I reasoned.

"Look here.  There's some hair or fur stuck to one of the branches," Chad observed.  "I don't think this belonged to a hunter or someone else."

"He might have killed something and brought it in here for a short time while waiting to get something else.  Either that, or a curious animal may have come inside to check the place out too, but I doubt an animal built it."

"It could be fur from a Bigfoot or something else," Reid added, so I grabbed whatever it was so I could examine it in the light.

"This actually looks like rabbit fur," I offered.  "Besides, it's too light in color to be from Bigfoot, since those claiming to have seen one have always stated it has dark brown or reddish-brown  fur."

The boys then looked more closely at what I held in my hand so they could examine it too.  "But something other than a person could have made this shelter," Simon countered.

"Yes, I guess it could have been an alien for all we know," I joked.  "Maybe E.T. built it so he could study the campers."

"Now you're just making fun of us," Chad snapped.

"No, I'm just throwing out another explanation that's just as plausible as the idea that Bigfoot made the shelter, since no one has proven the existence of Bigfoot OR space aliens."

Chad merely glared at me and shook his head, so I took it that he disagreed with my analogy.  Since there was nothing more to be seen in the shelter, I suggested we check out the other one.

The second shelter was different in two ways.  First, it was located beneath some trees, not in bushes, but it was also constructed differently.  This shelter was merely a lean-to that was only about waist high at the highest point, so either it was made for sleeping, or designed to keep someone hidden while he sat and observed.  Again, it would have worked nicely for a hunter to use, but previous experience had taught me that not all of the boys would accept my conclusion.  I let them look around instead, hoping they might find something that would convince them.  I was just about ready to give up on the idea that this was going to happen when Paul pointed out something.

"Look at this branch that was used to make the shelter.  You can see it has cut marks that were made by an ax or hatchet."  He then pointed out the evidence that led him to draw this conclusion.

"Ok, maybe this one was made by a person, but it doesn't mean the other one was too," Simon objected.  He was apparently the most resolute in his conviction that the other shelter had been made by Bigfoot.

The boys wanted to look around and see if they could find another shelter, but the sky had been growing increasingly overcast to the point where it began to rain.  We decided to head back to the tents instead, in case it started raining harder.

We barely made it back before the sky opened up in a veritable cloudburst.  Seeing we'd all stayed together while making our way back to camp, all of the boys followed me into our tent, so we stayed there to wait out the storm.  Since it didn't look like that was going to happen soon, I offered a suggestion to pass the time.

"I put a deck of playing cards in my duffle bag, in case something like this happened, so does anyone want to play cards?" I asked.

"Would you teach us how to play poker?" Chad responded.

"I suppose I could, if that's what you all want to do," I agreed.

"Yeah, we can play strip poker," Simon suggested with a grin.

"That doesn't make very much sense, seeing there are no girls here we can get naked and we've already seen each other without anything on," Jeremy reasoned.

"But it will be good practice for when we can do something like that," Simon relented.

I had a feeling he'd only said that to maintain his cover, because I suspected that he wanted to gawk at our naked bodies some more.  In fact, maybe he got a special thrill out of watching guys take off their clothes and it wasn't just from seeing them naked.  Anyway, the others agreed to play poker, so I went over the various winning hands first, from lowest to highest.  I wasn't sure if they'd remember everything I told them, but I figured it might sink in better after actually playing.

"There are a lot of different types of poker, so I won't be able to teach you all of the variations.  I'll just instruct you in three of them.  We'll start with five-card stud, and once you have that down I'll teach you five-card draw.  Once you understand those, I'll go over Texas hold'em."

I then explained the first game to them, and we played a couple of practice hands just to make sure they understood.  I also tried to explain when they should stay in a hand and when to fold, but I had a feeling they were all going to stay in, no matter what cards they were dealt.

"So how do we bet?" Chad wanted to know.

"Normally you would bet various items of clothing as the cards are dealt, with the winner taking all.  To make it easy, anyone who doesn't win will give up one article of clothing for losing the hand."

"What if some of us are wearing more clothes than the rest?" Chad pressed.

"Then we'll just make sure you're all betting with the same amount of garments," I reasoned.

After we talked it over, we decided that everyone would have five items of clothing to bet: pants/shorts, shirt, underwear, socks, and shoes.  It meant anyone losing five hands would be naked, but no one had a problem with that since we'd been naked most of the time anyway.  In fact, I think this was just an excuse for us to get naked again, and I was sure the winner would also strip once we stopped playing.

Seeing the rain never let up, we played five-card stud until we had a winner and everyone else was naked.  Then, we got dressed again and started over playing five-card draw until we had another winner.  When it was time to play Texas hold'em, I had the boys take back their clothes, but this time they didn't bother to put them on.  They merely kept them at their side and tossed an item in when they lost, and we played until we had a winner.  I think the boys were upset that I'd won all three games.

"Of course you'd win," Reid stated.  "You already knew how to play and we were just learning."

"Hey, doing this wasn't my idea, so don't get mad at me just because I won."

"So take the rest of your clothes off and we'll go for a swim," Simon suggested.  I think this just proved my point that he liked seeing us all naked.

When we looked out the flap to see what the weather was like, we noticed the rain was now no more than a drizzle, and since we were going to get wet while swimming anyway, it wasn't a problem.  I have to admit that I was somewhat surprised that rain was all we've had to deal with, because I'd been expecting a thunderstorm.  I figured it was what would have normally happened after experiencing so many warm days in a row, but I was actually glad that hadn't happened.  I wouldn't have wanted to expose the boys to possibly being hit by a lightning strike.

On the way down to the lake, I suddenly came to a realization.  It was well past lunchtime, but no one had complained that he was hungry.  We hadn't stopped to fix anything when we came back because it had been raining, but I would have thought the boys might have said something by the time we emerged from the tent.  Judging from past experience, eating should have been at the top of their 'to do' list after the rain stopped, but no one said anything about food.  I decided to remain quiet and wait to see who would be the first to complain.

We'd been swimming for about twenty minutes before someone finally said something.  "Hey, my stomach just growled and it made me realize we haven't had anything to eat since breakfast," Paul stated.

"That's right!" Reid agreed.

"How come you didn't remind us?" Chad wanted to know.

"I shouldn't have to remind you when you're ready to eat, but I didn't stop to fix anything because it was raining when we came back.  I also expected the rain might turn into a thunderstorm, and I didn't want to be messing around with the camp stove or using metal pots if it began to lightning."

"Yeah, but you could have reminded us when the rain stopped," Chad reasoned.

"Hey, if you didn't know you were hungry, then why should I be the one to tell you?"  He looked at me oddly.  "If you want, I'll fix an early and slightly larger dinner than usual, seeing it's about halfway between the time we would have normally had those two meals."

"Yeah, let's do that," Jeremy chimed in.  "And if there are any more cookies and chips, then we can have those around the campfire later."

"Do you think the wood will be dry enough to do that?" Reid wondered.

"Yeah, once we get the fire started, the wood should burn fine," Jeremy confirmed.  "I doubt it will have absorbed very much moisture from the storm, so it should still be dry enough, as long as it doesn't rain again."

As soon as we got out of the water and dried off, Jeremy and Reid helped me fix dinner.  We actually fixed some of the things we were going to have for lunch too, so there was plenty of food for them to stuff themselves.  It should definitely hold them over until it was time to have our snack later, and the boys all seemed satisfied doing this.  There was also nothing left over when it was time to clean up.

Seeing we had a lot of time remaining until it got dark, I asked the boys what they wanted to do next.  "We could play with the Frisbees and Nerf footballs again," Simon offered.

"Or we could take a walk down and see if anyone is at the other campsites, including the RV area," Jeremy suggested.

"If we do that, then I think we'll need to put something on first," I teased.

"Who knows, if anyone's there they might enjoy the show," Jeremy quipped back.

"Either that or they'll call the cops," I countered.

"Jeremy, is there anything else that we could check out, like we did with the fire tower?" Reid wanted to know.

"My dad once told me that there's an old mining camp about a mile (1.6 km) west of the fire tower, but he never took me there.  He said the miners once looked for gold there, but he's not sure if they found anything.  It's the only other thing I know about, though."

"Do you think you could take us there?" Chad asked.

"My dad told me where it is, so I could probably find it."

"Could we get there and back before it got dark?" Paul wondered.

"Yeah, it's still early enough to do that."

"Can we go there, Uncle Quinn?" Reid followed.

"I guess we could do that, if you all wanted to, but I'm not going to let you explore any mines.  That would be too dangerous, but I'm willing to go see what else is there."

The boys wanted to do this, so we got dressed to take another hike.  Once we were ready, Jeremy led the way and started out over the same path we'd taken to get to the fire tower.  About halfway there, though, he veered off and headed in a slightly different direction.

We kept following him and I watched as he checked for the various landmarks that his father told him were along the way.  I was beginning to think we weren't going to find anything when Jeremy made a comment.

"I think that's it over there," he said as he pointed at something in the distance.

We continued moving in that direction and soon discovered an old shack that had seen better days.  Most of the roof had caved in and the windows and door were merely holes in the walls, but I found it surprising that it was standing at all.  As we began to investigate the location, the boys spotted various items laying around on the ground that had been discarded long ago.  There was what was left of a rusting lantern and some broken tools that had once been used there, including the head of a pickaxe and the lower half of a shovel.  They also spotted an old mining car that was missing a wheel near the boarded up entrance to an old mine.

"I don't want you boys to go anywhere near that area," I warned.  "Any timbers that were used to shore it up are probably rotting and crumbling by now, and different animals may have moved in there and made it their home, once it was abandoned."

"But it's boarded up and some dirt has fallen and is partially covering the opening too," Simon observed.

"There's still a few gaps where it's boarded up, so maybe a bear couldn't have snuck inside, but other animals might have, such as a fox, skunk, snakes, or other small creatures."

I think that was enough to convince them to stay away from there, so we just looked around for a little while longer.  I was trying to keep an eye on the boys when I heard the snarling cry of a wild animal.

"What the hell was that?" someone asked, but I was busy looking for the source of the noise and didn't recognize who'd spoken.

"I believe it was a mountain lion that doesn't like us being here," I said as I looked around for something I could use as a weapon.  I settled on grabbing what remained of the head of the pickaxe.

The boys must have noticed what I was doing, because I saw them picking up rocks and large pieces of wood they could use if necessary, but I determined it was time to get out of there.

"Jeremy, will you lead us back to the campsite?  I'll stay at the rear and make sure the mountain lion doesn't try to sneak up on us, but I want all of you to keep your eyes open for any signs of movement too.  The mountain lion might try sneaking around in search of a smaller target."

Jeremy did as I asked and the boys followed behind him, all moving at a fairly swift pace.  They weren't running, but they were walking very fast, since they wanted to get away from a possible confrontation with a wild animal.  I kept up with them, although I continued to look around and kept glancing over my shoulder for any signs of danger.  I doubted the mountain lion would be likely to attack so many of us, but I suspect if it was hungry enough it might try, so I didn't let down my guard.

The boys didn't slow down until we were nearly back at camp, and then they began to talk about what had happened.  "Damn, I nearly crapped my pants when I heard that thing growl!" Chad admitted.

"Yeah, that was scary," Simon admitted.  "I'm just glad I wasn't alone at the time."

"I hope you all realize that there's always a chance of running into a wild animal whenever you're investigating areas such as this, so it's wise to remain alert," I advised them.

"I think I've been on enough hikes for now, so I'll keep close to our tent until we leave," Reid confessed.

The other boys agreed with his logic, and we were soon back at the campsite.  The first thing we did when we got there was to light the campfire.  It would be getting dark soon and the boys wanted to be able to see the mountain lion if it happened to follow us back, and they went to get the lanterns too, in case we heard anything.  We finally succeeded in getting the fire started just as the sun was disappearing, so I went to get the cookies and the other variety pack of munchies for us to snack on.  I was certain the boys must have worked up an appetite while they were on the hike, because I had, so I felt this would keep them satisfied until morning.

As we were sitting around the campfire and filling up on junk food, I asked the boys what they wanted to do the following day, since it would be our last one here.

"How about we take another canoe trip around the lake," Chad suggested.  "At least we won't have to worry about being attacked by a wild animal while we're doing that."

"True.  I doubt there are any sharks or giant squid in the lake that might think of us as a snack," I joked.  It caused the boys to groan.

"I think that's a great idea," Paul agreed.  "So who will be going out together this time?"

"I haven't gone with Jeremy yet," I responded, "so I think we should be in the same canoe this time."

"And I'd like to be with Jeremy too, since we haven't spent much time together lately," Chad announced.

Everyone else seemed satisfied with our requests, although I think Reid may have wanted to be with me too, but he agreed to go with Paul and Simon.  Seeing that was settled, we finished eating and put everything away so we could head to our tents.  When we got there, Reid made a suggestion.

"Me and Chad were hopin' you'd let us sleep closer to you tonight."

"You two have been as close as you could possibly get without actually getting into my sleeping bag with me."

"That's sorta what we want to do," Chad confirmed.  "It's not cold out, so we were thinking we could unzip all three sleeping bags and put one on the ground that we could all lay on, and then we could pull the other two over us."

I thought about this for a second before I responded.  "I take it you want skin-to-skin contact with me when we do this, but what else are you hoping for?"

"We wouldn't mind if you sucked us off again," Chad answered.

"I suppose we could do that, but you'll have to keep the noise down.  Since the others have never come over here after dark, I think we should be safe."

The boys were thrilled and we quickly set up the sleeping bags the way they'd suggested.  I opened mine up and spread it out so we could all lay on it, and then they got their sleeping bags ready to place over us.  Before we did that, though, they wanted me to suck them off before they did the same to me.  I was happy to go along with their request, so we got started.

They agreed that Reid would go first tonight, so I began working on him, while Chad kissed him and sucked on his nipples.  I also fingered Reid's hole and used two fingers to manipulate his prostate until he ejaculated, and then we gave him time to enjoy his orgasm before he and Chad switched places.

After I'd done the same thing to Chad, the boys worked on me next and took turns sucking on my penis and kissing me.  After we'd all enjoyed our releases, we settled down on my sleeping bag, and they pulled the other two over us.  They both rolled onto their sides and slid as close to me as possible so they could place their heads on my chest.  It didn't take very long before we were all sound asleep, content to be sharing this sort of closeness again.

When I awoke in the morning, I realized I wouldn't be able to get up without waking both boys, but since our current sleeping arrangement had been their idea they'd have to live with it.  I tried to extricate myself with as little inconvenience to them as possible, but they woke up anyway.  Since we were all awake, they went out with me to help fix breakfast.

After we finished eating, Paul suggested I should take my group out first.  Reid said he'd take care of having lunch ready, and Paul and Simon agreed to help him, so Jeremy, Chad, and I headed down to the water.  I let Jeremy take the rear position in the canoe and we put Chad in the middle, and once we were set, we started out on another trip around the lake.

Paddling around in the canoe seemed to take less out of me this time, and I thought we got back a little quicker too.  I was still tired, but not quite as sore as the first time we did it, so maybe I was in a little better shape than when we first arrived.  When we made it back to the dock near our campsite, we pulled the canoe onshore and went up to have lunch with the others.

"I don't think it was nearly as bad this time," Chad stated in between bites.  "I'm not feeling as sore or tired as I did when we did it before."

"Maybe you're starting to build up some muscles then," Paul teased, which caused Chad to flip him the bird, and then they both started laughing.

After we finished eating, the other group went down to the lake to take their turn, and the rest of us followed them to the lake.  It wasn't that we were going to give them a send off, but it was because we planned to swim for a while to clean off and unwind after an interesting 24-hour period.  Unfortunately, Chad and Jeremy decided to cannonball into the lake just as the canoe was leaving, and the ripples they created caused the canoe to nearly tip over.  Of course, this resulted in a few nasty comments from those in the canoe, while Chad and Jeremy merely said 'oops' and claimed it wasn't intentional.  Before long, however, the canoers were out of sight and things returned to normal.

I spent over an hour in the water before getting out, and then I went to get things ready for dinner.  It was still early, but I wanted to get it out of the way, and then I could sit and relax until the others returned.  Chad and Jeremy came up to join me after a while, and we sat around and talked about the various things we'd done on the camping trip, including our close encounter the previous day.

As it grew closer to the time I expected the others to return, I started cooking our meal so it would be ready to eat as soon as they got back.  They showed up slightly ahead of what I'd anticipated, so they had a chance to relax before we ate, and then we all went for another swim.

We had another campfire that evening, our last one since we'd be packing up and leaving in the morning, so I thought it was a good time to make S'mores again.  The boys seemed happy that we were doing this and they all thanked me for bringing them on this trip.  They also asked if we could do it again next summer, and I told them I'd consider it, but I wouldn't be able to give them an answer until next spring.  I explained that I'd have to wait and see what else I was involved in at the time, since I wasn't sure if those making the movie would need me to stay around as a consultant.  They all said they understood, but I hoped we might be able to do this again, because I enjoyed it too.

When we went to our tent to sleep, Chad and Reid wanted to do what we'd done the previous night, and I agreed.  Not only did we suck each other off again, but we all slept the same way too, with them being pressed against my body.  I could really get used to this, either here or at home.

When I woke up in the morning, I roused the boys too and asked them to zip up the sleeping bags and roll them up like they were when we first got there.  I also suggested that they pack up their belongings at the same time, and advised them that while they were doing those things, I would go out and fix breakfast.  They agreed, so I headed out to whip up something to fill their empty bellies.

Shortly after I walked out of the tent, I saw the boys emerging from the other tent as they went to empty their bladders.  I yelled over and told them to take care of their sleeping bags and start packing up so we'd be ready to leave, and they let me know they understood.

When I had breakfast ready, I called the boys to eat, and after we finished, they helped me clean everything up, and then we started putting things away.  Once we'd packed up the camping stove and utensils, we took our gear out of the tents so we could strike them too.  Paul and Jeremy directed that activity, but Jeremy also took care of the portable toilet, while explaining that he'd also deal with it when he got home.

Once we had everything loaded into the truck again, along with the garbage and canoe, we did one more walk around the area.  We did this to make sure we had left nothing behind and the site was pretty much as we'd found it, which all campers should do.

The ride home was a lot lighter than the ride there, because the boys were not only listening to their music, but they were talking about the trip as well.  It also meant the music wasn't blaring quite as loudly this time, which I appreciated, and I enjoyed hearing them talk about how they felt about our week together too.  Needless to say, we had all been very open with each other while we'd been there, but I think we'd also grown closer during that time as well.  I was fairly certain I'd be spending more time with these boys in the future.

As we got closer to our homes, I asked Jeremy if he wanted some help unpacking the truck and taking care of everything, but he told me he'd be able to take care of everything.  I hated to leave him with all of that work, but he said it was worth it, since we'd made sure he didn't miss out on going camping this year.  We all thanked him, but we also told him that he could call us if he changed his mind.

I stopped at our place first, so I could ask Brad to drive over to Jeremy's house in about twenty minutes to pick me up.  I thought Reid might stay at the house, but he wanted to go with me as I dropped the others off, so we took them home according to who lived closest.  It meant we dropped Chad off first this time, and he thanked us again for taking him.  As I was getting his gear out of the truck bed, he whispered that he'd be in touch so we could plan on spending more time together.

After that we dropped off Paul and then Simon, before making our way over to Jeremy's house.  When we got there, we went inside to say hello to Jeremy's dad first and to thank him for the use of the truck.

"Did you have a good time?" he asked his son.

"The best.  It was almost as good as going camping with you, but I still wish you could have been there too."

"I'm just glad you got to go and had fun."

When Brad showed up, Reid and I said goodbye to Jeremy and his parents, and then we went to get our gear out of the truck and put it in the Highlander.  Jeremy came out with us so I could help him remove and store the stove and portable toilet.  When we finished moving everything, I handed him the key to the truck.  He thanked me again, and then he surprised me by also giving me a hug.

"Thanks for doing this for me.  I had a great time."

"You're welcome, and we had fun too."

We then got in with Brad and headed for home.  I was ready for everyone to ask me about the trip, but I was also prepared to deal with Ashley and Evan, since I knew they probably wouldn't be happy that they hadn't been included.
