Do I answer her truthfully? Or lie like a son of a bitch? Will she tell Dad if I tell the truth? Or Chet? Holy shit, I am in some serious doo-doo. "Ah. Er." Phyl frowned slightly, "Oh dear. I think I spoke my thoughts when I shouldn't have. Donny, forgive me. That was a very private question and should not have been asked." "Oh, ah, okay." "I'm sorry. Let's start all over again and forget what I said. So what's your favorite flavor of ice cream?" Phew. Dodged that bullet. "Ah, I don't know. I guess Tin Roof." Phyl chuckled. "Only a south Texas kid would answer like that." "What do you mean?" "Kids everywhere else like vanilla or chocolate or strawberry. Only south Texas kids would answer with Tin Roof or Good Heavens! flavors." "Why?" Phyl chuckled again. "I guess because they don't get to eat Blue Bell where they live." "Damn, that's...oops, sorry." Phyl busted out laughing then. "That's okay, Donny. I feel the same way. So you like Tin Roof, huh. Is it the three kinds of chocolate or the pecans?" "I don't know. I just like it." "Okay. What's your birthday?" "August second." "Ah, a Leo." "Yep. Born leader. That's me." I grinned to show I wasn't that serious. Phyl patted my hands. "Good, I like confidence. It shows maturity." I grinned again. "I have a long ways to go for that. I just know what I like." "And you like Chet." "Yeppers. Like I said, it was like something just clicked the first time we met. Like the first time I met Dad." "Would you like to tell me about that?" "Not much to it. I got caught in a storm and took shelter in the tool shed here. Fell asleep, and Dad found me." "And right away you knew that he was special?" "Oh yeah. Just the way he held me, I knew." "Well, I am so happy that things are turning out well for you." "Dad too." "And for your dad." Phyl sat back. "I am glad to have met you Donny. And after this little talk I'm glad that you and Chet have become friends." "Thanks, Phyl. Guess we better join the others now." "Yes, Donny. Thank you." "For what?" "For being who you are." "Uh, okay. Guess I can't be anybody else, though." Phyl stood and pulled me up into a hug. "That's right. Now go find Chet. I'm sure he thinks by now that I have kidnapped you." She is an all right lady. I hugged her back, and put a little peck on her cheek. "Thanks. Bye." I charged out the motor home door in time to see Chet and Curt almost to the poolhouse. "Hey! Wait for me!" We swam for a couple hours more. The girls didn't show. Damn, it would have been nice to see them naked again, especially Patty. She is just so pretty. Paula too, but she goes to my school. And I have seen her naked! Of course, she has seen me too. So I guess that's fair. But I bet the first time I see her at school, I'm gonna get embarassed as shit. Since it was just the three of us, we managed to relieve tension again. Before we had to dress again to go back out for more food. The adults were laughing and joking when we went back out. Guess they had already put a pretty good dent in that keg. And the stories were stupid, although they were roaring like the jokes were the best ever written. So we grabbed our food and retreated to my room for some serious PS2 work. Things quieted down pretty late that night. Nobody came in to tell us where everyone was sleeping, so the three of us just used my bed. Not like there wasn't enough room in it. Plus it gave us another chance to relieve some tension, hehe. It was after nine the next morning before we finally dragged ourselves out. But the smells coming from the kitchen were just too good to pass up. Dad was at the stove cooking eggs to order while Cod was frying breakfast steaks only slightly quicker than they were being eaten. Buddy and Doctor Bob didn't look too good, but they had huge glasses of O.J. in front of them. Phyl shooed everyone except the girls out of the kitchen after everyone had eaten their fill, saying that it was the girls turn to clean up. Surprisingly, Dad didn't object. But then, like all the adults, he wasn't making any loud noises. All us kids went swimming after the girls finished in the kitchen. Funny, it didn't seem as strange today seeing Patty, Paula, and Penny naked. Almost natural. Dad had installed an intercom system between the pool and the house during the summer and he called us to say Doctor Bob and Buddy were leaving around noon. So we all hopped out and dressed in the locker room together. Like I said, didn't seem funny at all. The Bowens left a little after Doctor Bob and Buddy, saying the kids needed to get get home and finish their homework. Once they left Dad and I just kinda looked at each other and smiled. "Sure is quiet all of a sudden, isn't it son?" "Yeah, but sort of nice too. It was fun having all those people here, and having someone to play with and stuff, but it's nice now too." "Yeah, it is. Come here, Donny. I haven't really had much of a chance to do this since yesterday." Dad opened his arms and pulled me into a hug. Boy, did that feel good! There wasn't much to clean up, just take down the awning. So we did that real quick, then went swimming to wash the sweat off. It had been a while since Dad and I had swam together so we horsed around a little, but I noticed Dad would also give me little hugs and touches a lot. I got the feeling that he had something on his mind, but wasn't about to ask and spoil the mood. I was enjoying his closeness just too much. We walked arm in arm to the house when it was time for supper. Once in the kitchen Dad started to drop his arm to start cooking, but I grabbed him close and stretched up to plant a kiss on his cheek. "Thanks, Dad." "I needed it too, son. So thank you, too, and you're welcome." "Yeah." We had a light supper that night, just a tossed salad, since we had eaten so heavily over the weekend. Not much was said at the table, we just kept glancing at each other and smiling. After putting the dirty dishes in the washer, Dad suggested a movie, so I picked out one and we settled into my favorite position in his recliner. I laid my head on his chest and listened more to his heartbeat than to the movie. "Dad, can I ask you a question?" "Sure, son." "Remember when I told you I was gay?" "Yes." "Well, I was wondering. When I saw Patty and Paula naked yesterday I got kind of excited and my dick got hard. Does that mean I'm not gay?" "I don't know, Donny. It could be lots of things. I'm guessing that you have never seen naked girls before." He smiled at me. "Yeah, in pictures. But not live like that before. It seemed so different." "It was different. First of all there they were, living and breathing, right in front of you. That is a lot different than pictures. Next, you were naked too. I imagine you felt a little self conscious too." "Yeah. But then after a while it didn't seem to matter. We sat around for a bit, and I didn't start to get hard until I saw Cam and Carl get boners. I asked Chet why he didn't get one, and he said because he was used to seeing naked girls. But then he started getting one too." Dad chuckled. "Well, I think you just forgot about the nakedness for a while and were too busy having fun to really think about it." "Yeah, but does that make me straight?" "Do you want to be straight?" "Yes...no...I don't know. Part of me wants to be like everyone else. But then I think about other guys and I get a funny feeling in my stomach." "Well, getting turned on the first time you see a naked girl doesn't make you straight, any more than popping a bone in the showers at school makes you gay. They are natural reactions, especially at your age when you are still exploring your sexuality and feeling all those new hormones changing your body. And don't worry about whether you are straight or gay, those are just labels. Because when you fall in love with someone, it won't matter what sex they are. All that will matter is how that person makes you feel." Yes it does matter. Because I never want to loose this feeling of love for you. "Okay, Dad. Thanks." "Your welcome, son. Now I have a question for you?" "Okay." "Do you remember when you made the comment last spring about wanting to help other kids who have family problems?" What's this about? "Yeah." "Do you still feel that way?" "Yeah, Dad. Sometimes I think how lucky I am to be here with you, and how bad it could have turned out. And that there are more kids out there that are having a bad time. That you can help. Like you helped Deke." I saw the look on his face. "No Dad. You did help Deke. He told me." "Not enough, son." A tear slowly ran down his cheek. "More than you think, Dad." I kissed the tear away before it reached his chin. "You have so much love in you. I hope I can share." "Oh, Donny. You really surprise me sometimes. How you act so grown up at times." I threw my arms around his neck. "I love you, Dad." "I love you too, son, so much." "So are you thinking about helping other kids?" "Actually Buddy brought it up last night. And we talked about it. You know Phyl is a psychologist specializing in adolescent behavior." "Yeah. And she likes kids too." Dad laughed. "That she does. It would be a real problem if she didn't with her brood." "Yeah." I laughed too. "Okay. what do you think about this idea. We could kind of turn this place into a youth ranch. The Bowens could live out here and help with the kids." "In the house? All together?" "No." Dad chuckled. "We could fix one of the other buildings into a home for the Bowens. And maybe a couple of the others as dormitories. Maybe a gym, and a couple of workshops. What do you think?" "Wow. That sounds neat. When can we get started?" Dad laughed. "It will take a while to get things started. Plans have to be drawn up. Construction has to be done. And the Bowens have to agree. Last night we just talked hypothetically. Things like this don't happen overnight, son." "I know, Dad. But the sooner we get started, the sooner we can start helping other kids." "You sure you really want to do this? That you can handle this?" "Yes, Dad. As long as I know you still love me." "Oh, Donny. You don't know how much I love you. And that will never stop." And you don't know how I love you, Dad. But soon. TBC
