I know that proper authors - the kind that write real books and win Booker prizes - all say that their characters take over the plot lines and do the developing for the author. I though this was pretentious crap, so I was startled when Ace and King effectively started directing things when they finally appeared. What was really alarming was that I - who had invented these people - found myself weeping at my own sad bits, reading them days after they were posted here. The only way to deal with this was to carry on writing. That's how "Lion-King" got started. I don't like the idea that things are left in the air. What happened to King? I needed to know. Lion-King was the catharsis I - the "I" who is actually writing this stuff: the person who isn't called "Peter Brown" but who logs onto badboi666 to post his material on Nifty - needed to stop the tears. And bugger me if the King in Lion-King didn't start taking over the plot line. Leo is there as a necessary plot-advancer (he's called Leo as an homage to the other Leo currently being written into my bedtime reading: Aardvark, you are brilliant!, and because I couldn't resist the juxtaposition of Lion and King. Childish, yeah) as we work our way back. As with Fourteen Again the last chapter of Lion-King was written fairly soon after the saga re-started. Writing that made me realize that the same withdrawal problem would hit me - and perhaps, gentle reader, hit you as well - at the end. So a final (I promise) story is on the stocks. One reader of Lion-King asked who Jack was. I replied, recommending that he should read Fourteen Again first. He declined. But you guys, who are reading this because you enjoyed Fourteen Again and are pleased that another chapter is here, will perhaps be encouraged to join me on the continuing journey. I know where, and how, it will end. But the steps getting me - us - there aren't clear yet. Come and join me and King in Lion-King. It'll be good to have you along for the ride. Badboi666 xxxxx
