The Gay Scouts

Chapter 4 – That Evening

When I got back to the kitchen and checked that everything was progressing as it should, I started preparing a salad and garlic bread.

About 15 minutes later as I put the spaghetti in the water to boil, Tom came back and told me that everything was set up for the conference call at 6:30 after dinner.

“I need to ask you something now that you have agreed to take on this project,” Tom stated; “Ruth and I are leaving on a trip on Sunday and we would like to have TJ stay with you. We will be gone until a week from Sunday which means TJ would be here with you for 9 days, today being Friday.” Tom paused.

“Also the boys discussed it and have agreed that TJ should be first to stay and be you first boy sexual experience; as he was the one that suggested you for the Scout Master position.”

Tom then stated, “I know that this is short notice, but both Ruth and I know that he is safe with you and you would take good care of him. Will you do it?”

I thought for a moment and said, “In for a penny, in for a pound and the others I am sure are going to be wanting to come over and spend time here as we get all aspects of the program going, so yes he can stay. From the way you asked and his reaction when he heard me agree, I presume that he is expecting to stay starting tonight?”

“That was the plan, that he proposed, so he packed some things and has them in the truck so that he was ready to stay, hoping that you would agree.”

When the spaghetti water started to boil again I stirred the spaghetti so it wouldn’t stick; I asked Tom to get TJ as it would be about 10 minutes before dinner was ready.

I was basically preparing dinner on auto pilot as my mind was awhirl with the implications of what I had agreed to.

Tom and TJ returned in a few minutes and TJ came over to me and gave me a hug and said, “Thank you Smitty, this really means a lot to me and I promise that I will do everything you tell me to and be on my best behavior.”

I smiled and him and said, “Well you little imp, you got what you wanted, but you will have chores while you stay here starting now, so go and set the table.”

“Sure thing.” he replied and went to the dish cupboard to get things out.

While the spaghetti was cooking I got out two serving bowls, one for the regular sauce with meatballs and mild sausage and the other for the Hot Italian Sausage and spicy meatballs, and a bowl for the spaghetti.

I tested the spaghetti and it was almost al dente and would be ready in a few minutes. No! I didn’t throw it against a wall to see if it would stick.

While the spaghetti was finishing up, I filled the serving bowls and when I placed them on the table I told Tom and TJ that the bowl with the green spoon was the mild meatballs and sausage and the one with the red spoon had the spicy meatballs and Hot Italian Sausage. I also reminded TJ to be careful as both were very hot from cooking, and he turned red. I told them to go ahead and start on their salads and I would be back in a minute or two.

I drained the spaghetti and tossed it with some Olive Oil to keep it from sticking and put it on the table, got the Garlic Bread out of the oven and sprinkled some Parmesan cheese on the slices and plated them and took them to the table and sat down, TJ was almost finished with his salad and was eying the spaghetti and sauces steaming on the table.

When he finished his salad, TJ looked at me and asked, “Which do you think I should try first? The spicy or the not spicy?”

I smiled and asked, “Do you like spicy food?”

“I’m not sure,” he replied, “Mom doesn’t like spicy food so most things she cooks are pretty mild.”

“Well try this,” I suggested, “take a little portion of spaghetti, put some of the spicy sauce on it and try it. If you are ok with that, then do it again, but add a spicy meatball, if you are still ok with that, then do it with a small piece of the Hot Italian Sausage. That way you won’t get a plate full of something you don’t really enjoy.”

“Sounds like a good idea.” TJ responded and proceeded to construct his gastronomical experiment.

When he finished the portion with the Hot Italian Sausage, he stated, “It was good, but I’m not sure that I could eat a full plate of that, so I will go with the not so spicy.” He proceeded to dig in.

Tom was enjoying the spicy as he was raised with spicy food. I was going for the mild as the meals my Mother would make are from an English heritage on my Father’s side and German on her side. While they were flavorful, the spices were not particularly poignant and did not attack the palate like the Hot Italian Sausage does.

We finished dinner, put everything away that needed to be put away, cleaned up the Kitchen and had 10 minutes to spare before the conference call was to start.

We went to the Den and dialed in and I put the speaker phone on mute. A couple of minutes before the start time the announcements started and about 30 seconds after the start time everyone was there.

I pointed to the mute button and then to Tom and he took the hint.

Tom pressed the mute button to activate the phone and greeted everyone, “Hi everyone, I have good news, David has agreed to be the Scoutmaster . . . “ the rest of what Tom was going to say was drowned out by the cheers and “all rights”, “yea mans” and shouts of the boys on the call.

Once they quieted down the parents congratulated me and reaffirmed their support to all aspects of the program, to the embarrassment of some of the boys. The parents dropped off the call and Tom left the room so I would have a chance to talk with the boys.

Several of the boys were leaving Sunday evening for trips and were anxious to come over before they left. I told them that TJ would be spending the week here because his parents were going on a trip and I was interrupted by them razzing TJ with comments like “you lucky dog”, “don’t wear him out” and “save some for me”.

I told them that the boys leaving on trips Sunday would be the first ones invited over tomorrow and they would all be here by Saturday evening. That they were welcome to stay for a few days with their parent’s permission, but to remember we had a lot of things to organize for the scouting part of the program and I expected them to be prepared to make suggestions and provide ideas for the organization and structure of the troop.

After a few more minutes of discussion and some more good natured ribbing of TJ, I ended the call, when I checked the time the call had only lasted about 20 minutes. TJ and I could smell the coffee brewing and headed for the Kitchen.

Tom had started a pot of coffee and gone out to his pickup and brought in a fresh baked apple pie that Ruth had sent with them and put it in the oven to warm up. I went to my freezer and got out some homemade French vanilla ice cream and TJ was getting dessert plates and coffee mugs from the cupboard.

I saw that he had brought over 3 coffee mugs and raised an eyebrow at him and smiled.

He responded, “Yes I drink coffee, but I like it with a lot of cream and sugar.”

I pointed to the refrigerator and the sugar bowl and he took the hint.

We stood around waiting for about 5 minutes for the coffee to brew in a companionable silence.

When the coffee was ready TJ poured the coffee and took the mugs to the table, Tom got the pie out of the oven and cut the pie in half, then a half into three pieces. The one piece was almost a quarter of the pie and I figured that was for TJ and his hollow leg. The other two smaller pieces for Tom and me as we needed to watch our girlish figures. I put two scoops of ice cream on the largest piece and a single on the other two, handed TJ his, Tom his and grabbed mine and we headed for the table to enjoy.

About 10 minutes later we were all replete and I kiddingly asked TJ if he wanted more. He groaned and responded, “Maybe later.”

TJ cleared the table, rinsed everything and loaded the dishwasher and got it doing its thing.

Tom stood and said, “Well I have to head home and get everything ready for our trip.”

I stood and responded, “And TJ and I have some horses that need looking after.”

We all headed out front to the pickup, Tom got TJ’s bike out of the pickup bed and TJ got his backpack from the cab.

TJ gave his Dad a hug and said, “You and Mom have a good trip and I will see you when you get back.” Tom ruffled TJ’s hair, got in the pickup and headed toward the front gate; which I had set to automatically open when he approached.

I grabbed TJ's backpack and TJ got his bike and we headed for the garage to find a spot to park it.

TJ fondly greeted the horses especially the Clydesdales and with the two of us it only took about 20 minutes to get the job done as I had already decided to leave them out in the pasture over the weekend, so the timing of their feeding was not as critical as it normally would have been and since we didn’t have to muck out the stalls it was nowhere near as messy.

We headed back to the house and grabbed TJ’s back pack on the way in. I have a total of 9 bedrooms including the Master suite; I showed TJ to the one nearest to it. I told him that since he was staying all week that this would be his room and showed him that each set of 2 bedrooms shared a large bathroom. Each bedroom was the size of a master bedroom in most homes.

I told him to unpack his stuff and put it away in the dresser or closet and check out the amenities and that I would be back in about 15 minutes. I could tell that he was excited by the tent in the front of his pants and the look of excitement and anticipation on his face.

I went to my room, well suite and did a little minor reorganization of some video clips I have used before and had everything set in about 10 minutes. I dimmed the lights and headed for TJ’s room. As I neared the door I could hear him softly chanting, “no, I gotta stop,” I quickly figured out what he was doing and went back to my doorway and called out, “Hey TJ when you are done unpacking come down to my room.”

Things got quiet in TJ’s room and I started back toward the sitting area, about 15 seconds later an out of breath TJ came sauntering into my room trying to act nonchalant and called out, “Here I am what’s up?”

I turned around and could see the bulge in his pants and commented, “Obviously you.” to his embarrassment.

I said, “Relax, take a deep breath and let it out slowly, we have all night and all week, so just calm down and let things happen.”

He rushed over and gave me a hug and said, “Thanks Smitty, I really am acting like a dumb kid ain’t I?”

“No,” I said, “just and excited one!”

“Before anything happens, we are going to talk and watch some video so you understand what it is that you’re committing yourself to.”

I took his hand and let him over to the sitting area.
