Jason continued to laugh hysterically as he looked up to Jeff and then Jim. Jeff started to get concerned and a little annoyed. "Hey Jason you okay? Calm down dude, you're hyperventilating." Greg and Jacob just sat there watching this, wondering exactly what the hell is wrong with Jason. Jason finally calmed down and looked at Jeff and Jim. He smiles to them and shakes his head in disbelief. Jeff looks to Jim with some confusion. He thinks, `didn't Jim tell this guy about the camp'. Jim just smiles his all knowing smile to Jeff then at Jason. Jason shakes his head trying his best to regain control of himself. He finally catches his breath and then without warning grabs Jeff by the face and gives him a quick and friendly kiss on the lips. He backs off and starts laughing as the shock registers on everyone's face. "What the hell was that for Jason?" Jason just smiles at the blushing Jeff's question. "Hey what can I say Jeff; you're cute and besides I had to show you that what you where thinking wasn't true. It makes sense now why Jim asked me all the question about being comfortable working around gay kids." Jeff sighs and starts to laugh and soon everyone joins him in the laugh, even Jacob giggles a little. Greg laughs with everyone, but even a blind man could see the green eyed monster jumping in his eyes. ___________________________________________________________ "Look dad I don't give a shit what the little asshole said. Greg is family!" "Jason calm down, please love", Marcus interjects. Jason turns his head and gives Marcus a look of anger that Marcus has never seen before. "Marcus, stay out of this; this is a family affair." Marcus feels those words cut through him like a knife. He tries his best to hold back the tears. Mr. Jefferson can see the pain in Marcus's face; it causes something in his own self to snap. With out warning he slaps Jason hard across his face. The shock of hitting one of his children for the first time in his life never registers in his mind, but for Jason the shock does more than just register, it breaks the preverbal dam. Without warning Jason charges his father, having the benefit of youth and an athletic body to match, he easily tackles and takes down the older man. "Jason what are you doing?" screams Marcus. Without hesitation he springs down to pull Jason from his father, but Marcus's lean soccer physique is no match for the weight and raw power of Jason's quarterback build. Jason in his fit of rage swings out and lands a hard right to Marcus's right eye. Marcus goes flying backwards, hitting the back of his head on the coffee table with a loud thud. Jason's penned up hurt and anger doesn't allow him to see he is hurting his true love, but his actions are more than enough to give his father the edge he needs and the spark to ignite his own anger. Mr. Jefferson quickly pushes his knee into his son's stomach knocking the boy off balance; he leaps onto Jason and lands a quick jab to his son's stomach. "WHAT THE FUCK IS GOINING ON?" Simon hollers out, the eldest of the three Jefferson's boys, as he walks in. Simon being by far the strongest and bulkiest of his family wedges himself between his father and younger brother. He looks over his shoulder seeing his sister's husband walk into the room too. "Rick get your ass over here and help me hold these two down!" Rick moves quickly and puts a tight bear hug around Mr. Jefferson literally ripping him from Jason. Simon holds down his struggling younger bother as the young man curses at him. "Get the fuck off me you ass hole. I swear to God soon as I get up your ass is mine!" "Jason shut the fuck up! I don't know what started this, but it ends now! I wanna know what happened and I wanna know now." Mr. Jefferson's senses quickly return to him; the horror of raising a hand to his son sets in. He starts to weep uncontrollably, but his weeping is interrupted by the fearful, gut wrenching scream that leaves Jason's mouth. "Marcus NO!!!" Jason continues to holler out Marcus's name. Soon everyone's eyes turn to see what has Jason in a panic. They see Marcus laying on the ground unconscious with a pool of blood around his head. Jason quickly becomes a friend with everyone he meets. For once in his life he is somewhere where being gay is okay. Jacob on the other hand is like a vice grip to Jason; he stays attached to Jason through out the first few hours. Jacob finally sees the horses and runs in their direction; Jacob's shyness starts to slowly dissolve over the next few hours. Jeff falls back into his normal routine of the all around "Mr. Fix It." Greg is more than uncomfortable at the Ranch; he notices a young man walking up to him and decides this guy must be the "famous" Justin that Jason and Jeff went on about. "So you must be Justin?" "Yep, and I'm guessing you are Greg?" "You got it." Greg prepares himself to for an argument to get his money back, but Justin does something to surprise the young man. "Well then I guess this belong to you Greg?" Justin hands Greg an envelope. Greg looks suspiciously at the Justin. Greg opens the envelope and to his surprise there is a large amount of cash and a plane to ticket to San Francisco. He looks up a little thrown off by the quickness of this. "Hey a deal is deal. You paid to help Jason and Jacob; so you should get reimbursed for it, but--" "I knew it, there's always a `but'; damn, you're all alike! Well screw you man: I ain't playin this shit with you either." Greg throws the envelope down and starts to walk off. Justin sighs and thinks, `damn this going be a tough one'. He places a hand on the turning Greg. He stops the guy, long enough to speak some. "Look Greg, what I was trying to tell you was this, you are in some kinda legal trouble in New York." Greg turns furious. "How do you know I came from New York?" Justin just sighs knowing this moment would come. He looks around noticing Greg's shouting has drawn a crowd. "I'll explain, but first lets go inside." Greg is about to say "no," but seeing the crowd quiets his temper; he just nods and follows Justin in. The doctor walks out of the emergency room and asks the head nurse where the family is. She explains to him the young man's family is not present, but the attacker's family seems to be very close to young man. She thinks that they, in all respect, may very well be considered his family. The doctor nods in agreement and walks over to the Jefferson's. Mr. Jefferson looks up just as the doctor approaches. He can tell the news is not good. Mr. Jefferson thinks, `how could he let this happen'? He wonders who next will get hurt before the healing begins? The doctor explains that Marcus's condition is very severe; "He has a major head trauma and is in a comma. He is waiting for the KAT scan to see if any other deeper damage has occurred. "Where is the boys parents?" the Doctor asks. Mr. Jefferson replies, "They are on a cruise, but they really don't care for him much. He is Jason's husband--" Mr. Jefferson looks down as the shame washes over him of what caused Marcus to be here. "So let me get this straight, I stay here and go through your damn little help program and the cops can't mess with me? I leave the ranch and the cops get me and haul my ass back off to the east?" "You got it Greg," says Justin. Greg thinks for a second and then looks at the cash in hands and smiles. "Okay, then who's driving me to the airport so I can catch my plane to San Fran?" Justin looks kinda shocked for a second that Greg would choose the streets over the Ranch, but figures we all make our choices. "You do know that I will be obligated to contact the police once you leave?" "Yeah well I have dodged them this far. I'll manage. So who is taking me to the airport?" Justin gets a little idea. He remembers what Jim told him about how Greg reacted to Jason and Jeff's playful kiss. "Jeff will." Greg's eyes widen and then narrow. "In that case I'll walk." Justin can see the seriousness in Greg's face. He knows that playing the game with someone like this is hopeless. "Fine Greg, I'll have Jim take you. You'll leave in the morning" Greg smiles on the inside knowing that he won this battle. Jason lies on the prison cot holding him self tightly and whimpers. He closes his eyes and wishes that he wouldn't wake up. Next thing he knows someone is shining a bright light in his eyes. He groans slightly and tries to move his arm; it brushes up against the IV. "Mommy? Daddy?" The doctor sighs a little and wonders why he helps these prisoners who always seem to be such smart asses. "Mr. Jefferson do you know where you are?" Jason looks at man like he is some kinda of weirdo. "Of course I do. I just woke up from getting my appendix out. Do I get to eat the ice cream again this time?" The doctor raises an eyebrow. He can tell the inflection in the man's voice is genuine and not sarcastic. His face grows grim. "What I don't get to ice cream this time," Jason frowns and pouts some. It's almost comical watching the grown man act like this. The doctor thinks quickly and puts on a fake smile. "Sure Mr. Jefferson. I'll be back with it soon." "Mr. Jefferson? You mean my daddy is here,' Jason starts to beam with excitement and claps his hands. The doctor leaves the room shaking his head and heads for the nearest phone to make two important calls. Jim switches the Pink Floyd cassette for Moody Blues in his Caddie. He reminisces of times forgotten. Greg lets out a moan as the annoying music starts. He figures it could be worse; he could be playing Dylan. Jim looks over at he young man. "Finally, he speaks. I thought you where a mute?" Greg rolls his eyes. "Yeah sure, whatever. Can you put Floyd back on?" "Why?" "Cause this shit sucks" Jim sighs and thinks what is it with this generation. He compiles with the wishes and puts the other tape back in. The trip returns to its unique silent state. Jim finally breaks the silence by being straightforward with the kid. "You know I think you are making the biggest mistake in your life; it ain't my place to judge. But I have seen too many street kids to count, and I can tell you ain't gonna last long out there." Greg kinda gave the man this fuck you and eat shit and die look. He starts to say something, but instead just shrugs. He goes back to looking out the window, and thinking to himself. Mrs. Jefferson cries in her husband's arms as fate deals them another bad hand. The doctor continues to try and comfort the family while the psychologist evaluates Jason. Within a few hours the psychologist comes out with a grave look on his face. He sees the mother and father holding each other. Mr. and Mrs. Jefferson, can we talk in my office?" Both parents nod and fellow the doctor into his office. He explains to them that Jason has had a mental breakdown from the recent events. "He mentally believe he is a ten year old. Think of it this way; your sons mind can't deal with all the input anymore; so it has shut down and is trying to restart itself in a safer setting." "Can we do anything to help him?" The doctor just shakes his head at Mr. Jefferson. "Perhaps in time, but from what I gather two of the major people that can help him; his lover and his younger brother, are in no position to help. Perhaps in time he will come out of this on his own, but for now he needs serious medical attention." End of Part 2.
