All that being said, I write this story for true boylovers and the boys that love to be loved, everywhere, anywhere. ================================================================== The big day came. Finally. It seem to have taken forever, yet at the same time it arrived in a heartbeat. Trevor had been walking on clouds since he turned his calendar to April. He marked "X's" on the days as they passed by, and he got his tux rented by the weekend before the Prom and had it fitted. It was due back by the Wednesday before the Prom. Michael was about as giddy as he'd ever been. He'd had his hair done. Styled. Tinted. His tux was fitted and in the closet weeks before April. He had his car scheduled to be detailed, ordered a flower for his date, and was nervous as hell. Adding to both their nervous apprehension, Trevor's parents were having an "after party" where Trevor's friend Aaron and his date / boyfriend were invited, and of course Michael and their son. No one else. Ulp. Michael felt strangely funny about the whole thing gay reception after the Prom, but oh well. He'd just weather it and support Trevor the best he could. The hours of THE day ticked by. It was a minimum day at school in honor of the event, and Trevor was home by a few minutes to 1:00. Michael had done a bit of work in the morning but by 10:30 or 11 he was just too distracted to concentrate. Michael had everything ready to go. He knew what time he was going to shower. He knew (because he'd asked about a dozen times) what time to pick Trev up. He had a good idea as to how long all four of them would stay at the Prom, how long they'd be at the after- party, and then he had a surprise for his boy on his Prom Day. The other guys knew so they could plan, and he'd told Trevor's parents, but as far as Trevor knew the after- party was it. Michael smiled. Nope. Not even. His phone rang, and of course it was Trevor. "Hi," Trevor said happily, "whatcha up to?" "Aw, just twiddling my thumbs and watching the clock tick slower than I'd believed it could move," Michael laughed back. Trevor laughed too, "Yeah no kidding. It's like 1 o'clock and six hours until we take off. What time are you going to start getting ready?" "Oh, about 5:00 I guess, you?" "Same I guess." They both fell silent. "Michael, I'm going to go nuts if I sit around for 4,000 hours waiting. You want to come over and watch a movie?" "Sure. Be right over?" "Cool, just come in, no one else is here for about another half hour or so." They were cracking up over some line in the movie when Trevor's mom came in. "Oh hi, Michael. Hi Trevor," she said cheerily. They both say hi back, and Trevor explained they were going nuts because the time was passing by so slowly, so they decided to watch a movie. His mom gave some pleasant acknowledgement and went to put some cooler clothes on. The movie was reasonably distracting, but both of the prom-goers were also becoming very avid clock-watchers. At one point Michael grabbed Trevor's hand in his own and smiled. "It'll all be fine, Trev." "I know. I don't know why I'm so....jumpy, or....whatever. It's not like I didn't want to go." He shrugged and gave a silly smile back. "Yeah, I know. Me too." Michael paused. "Ok, idea. Let's n-e-i-t-h-e-r of us look at a watch or clock or phone until the movie's over." Trevor smiled the same disarming, little-boy smile he'd had all his life. "Ok. Cool." Trevor's mom whizzed around doing things, and somehow Michael and Trevor managed to not look at any time device for the next hour or so. The movie ended and it was nearing 4:30. "What time do you need the bathroom, honey?" Trevor's mom asked. "Um, 'bout 5, I guess. Is that ok? Do you need it?" "No, just wondering what time, is all. You know me." Trevor laughed. His mom was a wonderful planner, organizer, and social director. She certainly had given her attentive skills to her son, who was as intense as he was intent. Michael rubbed Trevor's shoulder and said he should be running along, and Trevor rolled his eyes. Translation: he wanted to go with Michael. They both laughed. Michael ruffled Trevor's hair, which always seemed to fall back into some sort of nice, blonde order, and was off to his house. Shower. Shave, everything. Lotion. Underclothes. Hair dried. Pants. Shirt then body spray and underarm stuff. Teeth. Shirt. Hair. Eyes. Tie. Socks. Tuck shirt in. Hair again. Shoes. Flower. Hair again. Mirror. Double check everything. Keyes. Gum. Billfold. Back to mirror and double check everything again. Oh yeah. Tickets. He smiled, and put them in his jacket inside pocket. He checked his phone for the 160th time that day. About 10 minutes to go. Cool. Way, way cool. Trevor was just finishing up. He'd never been in a tux before and wasn't sure how he should look, exactly. But it seemed to him like he looked like some character out of a movie or something. He looked at his phone. 5 minutes to go. He stepped out into the living room, where his dad was patiently reading the paper, and his mom was on the couch. "Well. How do I look." His dad cocked his head a bit, almost as if in disbelief. His mom put her hand to her mouth and did one of those sharp inhales that people do then hold their breath. It was like seeing Leonardi DiCaprio in Titanic, where priorly he always seemed to wear clothes that were slightly disheveled, and then seeing him dressed to the hilt, waiting on the staircase for his date. His dad was the first to speak. "Pardon me, who are you and what have you done with my son?" He smiled, then got up and put his hands on Trevor's shoulders. Mom got up too, and was by his side. "You look so handsome, Trevor." And he did. He looked refined, dashing, mature, and boyish all at the same time. He had never, ever, looked better. Then, the doorbell rang. Dad answered the door as mom gave Trevor a hug, so proud of her son. Michael stood in the doorway, smiling a bit sheepishly. "Come in, come in," he was greeted with a shaking of hands. He stepped in, and gazed over at Trevor, and froze. He couldn't think of a single thing to say on his own. His love looked liked he'd stepped out of a catalogue for the rich, famous, and influential. On top of which, he was stunningly attractive. He was lucky that Trevor saved him. "Holy shit, Michael." He, too, paused for a moment. "You look great." Michael smiled, "Aw, it's all in the tux. And ME? Look at you!" He gave Trev his flower, and his mom pinned it for him. He got an endearing hug from Trevor's mom, who said, "Dear. Get the camera, we have to have pictures," which caused dad to simply reach down and grab the camera he already had ready. Moments later they were in Michael's car, headed down the street toward the school. Trevor turned to Michael. "You look fucking amazing, Michael. I mean it." He shook his head. "Damn. If anyone hits on you, I'll smack 'em." That got a laugh. "Me? Trev. Hear me. Stop for a second. You are a stunningly beautiful boy ALL the time, and you just dressed to the max, and look like some who should be being driven to this prom in a limo." "Thanks," Trevor said, and put his head on Michael's shoulder. "Thank you too." They both smiled at each other and held hands. Short trip to the school. Park. Walk to the gymnasium, check in, and enter. Literally every head turned to see their star student, and his date. Trevor looked 19 or 20, and Michael looked 24. Maybe. They had arrived on the band's second or third song, so not too many couples were dancing yet. This was Trevor's territory so Michael let Trevor lead, and he followed. Over to the punch table where there was a conglomeration of girls and their dates idly chatting about nothing. Trevor introduced Michael and all were smiling without saying a word, shaking hands and smiling. As he lead Michael away, Trevor was nearly giggling. He introduced Michael to a few more couples, then sat at a table with Aaron and his boyfriend. "How did it go?" Aaron asked Trevor. "Great. Mom and dad took about 75 pictures in less than 5 minutes, Steph and all of her friends were speechless, and we just got here," he replied. "Cool," Aaron said. Michael smiled. He'd met both other boys before, but in tuxes they both were quite good looking. Aaron turned his head toward Michael, smiling too. "So how's your night Michael?" He laughed a bit, then, "Well I think I'm just going to roll with the punch and see how many ripples we cause in this poor ole Prom Pond," and he beamed at all three of the boys. Michael truly did not look as though he'd been out of high school for very long, but still it was considered a rarity when a girl had an older, out-of-school date for the prom. All etiquette seemed to lean toward inviting your best in-school, friend or stand-in in that case. Much less a high school senior coming to the dance with a GUY who wasn't in school at all. Although there were other gay guys at Trevor's school, the only two gay couples attending the event were looking at each other across this funny little fold-out table. Michael's statement about ripples in the Prom Pond got a good laugh from Trevor and his friends, though, and seemed to lessen the tension. Aaron's boyfriend piped in, "Well, you wanna wait a bit until there's a few more people dancing, or crack the ice early?" "Definitely early..." Trevor started. "...yeah," continued Aaron. "...but let's wait to see who else shows up in the next few," Trevor finished. "Yup yup yup," Michael smiled, who looked surreptitiously at his watch. Yes indeed, all was going according to plan j-u-s-t fine. A chaparone for the prom approached the boys' table and asked in a most-unfriendly tone what was going on. Aaron spoke," Uh, we're here at the prom. Is there a problem?" Not challenging, just not cowed, either. "Well," the smug dialogue began, "I know what y-o-u three are doing here, but what is this gentleman doing here?" gesturing toward Michael. "Do you attend school here sir?" Michael met the man's stare directly. "No, I don't. But the Senior Class Student Body Vice President asked me if I'd like to do him the honor of attending this function with him, and I accepted." Undaunted, the man yet continued. "May I see your license, sir? Some sort of formal identification?" "Unfortunately, sir, I left that in my car as I don't bring that sort of thing into a public place where it might be dropped." Thinking he had Michael entrapped, he was about to speak but was cut off. "....but I do happen to have this form from your Administrative Office identifying me as having checked in with said office, registering so as to be legally upon this campus for this function. I think you'll find this signed by the Vice Principal," and he handed it over for inspection, and smiled. The man was clearly blind-sided. "But... I.... Well. This is fine, just ensure you keep it on your person at all times sir," and he turned to leave. "Sir," Michael said, and the man stopped and turned. "May I have my document back please? I was told to keep it on me at all times." And he smiled his best smile. The man stepped and handed Michael his paper, but there was a second of tension that belied more going on that just checking on documentation. Then he left. They all watched him walk away, and let him get a reasonable distance before any of them spoke. "Oh. My. God. What a total dick," Aaron exclaimed, not altogether quiet, followed by a comment from his boyfriend. Trevor turned to Michael. "I didn't know you had to fill that form out." Michael smiled wryly, "Thank your mom, she gave it to me." "My mom?" Trevor said, aghast. "Right on mom!" and he gave Michael a high five, clearly in view of the demonic chaparone who was obviously watching their table. "Trev," Michael said totally dead-pan, "is this guy a one-night addition to your faculty, or did the school hire him long-term to fulfill California's 'Hire The Brain Dead' program?" All of them busted up laughing. "I think we'd better dance now," Aaron said, pulling his date, still laughing. out of the standard-issue metal folding chair found at school functions. "Good idea," Trevor said, and he pulled on Michael's arm and they all went to the dance floor. "Michael?" Michael looked inquisitively back. "Thanks." Michael winked at him, and smiled big. "Thank you, babe. Thank you." It was a fun time, all four talked and chattered endlessly about odds and ends, having fun with each other. Especially for all the boys there was the stability that comes with knowing you're not alone, there are others who feel what you feel, too. Shortly after 9p Michael said, "Ok guys, reception at Trev's house," and they strolled out the gymnasium door and to Michael's car and piled in. Michael thought he noticed an adult, only, in the car behind him. Although the person could be a parent waiting for their son or daughter, no one else had been leaving the prom. He noted the car and let it go at that. Trevor's mom doted and was chattier than Michael had ever seen her, and his dad sat in true dad fashion and watched everything from his Lay-Z-Boy chair. Pictures of course ensued and a few snacks here and there. Despite the previous trepidations, it was quite a good time. Before long, mom looked at the wall clock and said, "Oh my, your ride will be here in a bit." Trevor cocked his head slightly and it was almost the same way a dog will cock his head to the side a bit when you're speaking to him, he knows you're trying to tell him something, but he doesn't get it at all. Everyone was waiting for the moment, and so all were watching Trevor with intent. "Ride?" Timing was perfect. The doorbell rang. "Trevor," his dad said smiling, "could you get the door son?" He turned to Michael who could barely not laugh out loud, "Oh you are so dead." And he opened the door. "Limo ride for four, sir. Are you Trevor?" "Be right with you sir, we'll get our jackets," and he closed the door slightly but not all the way. Everyone was stiffling a laugh. "Dead," he said to Michael, and Trevor laughed too and gave Michael a hug. They were all in the limo and the driver said, "Where to, sir?" Trevor smiled, and motioned for Michael to speak. "Dock 13A, driver, Star Tours, please," and they were off. It was a bay cruise, lasting the better part of an hour or so. The night air was warm, and desite the light from the city you could still see a few stars toward the horizon. There were minimal sounds except for the boat chugging its way around the harbor and under a bridge, and a few people talking softly on deck and around the ship. Michael and Trevor sat forward of the smoke stack on some nice benches, cuddled, talked a bit, and watched the lights go by. Not many words were said as they exited off the boat. All were fairly touched with the closeness of the moment, and simply held onto their significant other's arm as they trod down the gang plank. Back into the limo, Michael happened to look a few cars behind the limo, and he smiled a wry smile to himself. Same car as was behind him at the school. "Wait here driver, I'll be just a moment. Be right back guys. Sit tight," and he walked back to the driver's window of the mysterious car. It was the same chaparone from the prom who'd given him a rough time. Michael stepped up and smiled politely, and tapped on the guy's window, motioning for him to lower his window and talk. Surprisingly, he did. "Am I grossly mistaken, sir, or are you following us?" The guy didn't speak. Michael looked off to one side for a second, making it obvious he was thinking and about to say something. "You know, I find it peculiar that the only gay guys at the prom are addressed by you. And that on two occasions since then you are behind the car I and my friends are in. A bit of an extraordinary coincidence, don't you think?" Again, the man didn't respond. "Well, let's all hope it is some extraordinary coincidence. Because otherwise, it looks just like harassment. And, as you pointed out, I am not a student, sir, and I absolutely won't put up with harassment of gay people, ever. Not now, not in school, not anywhere." "I am just doing my job," the man almost spat out, glaring. Michael reached in his pocket and took out his tour ticket and turned it over, writing on the back. He stepped back and made it obvious he was writing down the man's license number and make of car. "You, sir, need a new job," Michael retorted, maintaining a reasonable tone of voice. He turned to leave. "You haven't heard the last of me, mister. Not in the slightest." Michael walked back to the man's car, and put his hands on the window ledge. "I don't know what kind of sick game you are playing, but mark my words. If I ever see you following me, or hear of you following any of those three boys, I'll walk down to a close friend I have in the Assistant DA's office and put an injunction on you. Loudly. And that's just for starters. I hope I make myself clear," and he turned and walked away. It had all taken only a minute or so. Michael got into the limo and everyone looked to see what he was going to say. "Damn, that was a nice harbor cruise. We've got to do this again sometime," and he smiled. "It was the same guy, huh?" Trevor asked. Michael laughed and put on an mobster Italian-type accent. "Yaa, and I tol' him, mista, ya gonna be wearin' cement shoes if ya messes wid me an' my friends again, ya hear? Huh?! .... Yaa, dat's wat I tol' `em. Cement shoes." They all cracked up at the pantomine that went along with the dialogue, and Michael had succeeded in diffusing their worries or apprehensions. Aaron and his boyfriend were dropped off at Aaron's car by the school, and the limo took its remaining passengers the few blocks to Michael's and Trevor's houses. They both wanted to be with each other and not go home separately. "This is getting old," Trevor whined. "Yeah. We'll figure something out. But, I think that for this night you should sleep at your house. Sorta expected." "Yeah. I know." They gave each other a long hug, and Michael kissed his boy on top of his head, and ruffled his hair. "You are such a beautiful guy, Trev," and he could only shake his head and sigh slightly. "Look who's talking," and Trevor kissed Michael on his chest and lay his face flat. He looked up and said, "Okay, talk to you tomorrow. Early. If I sleep. Love you," and he walked off toward his house. Michael watched him walk away for a moment. Yeah. As he lay in bed staring at a dark ceiling for a bit before he fell asleep, Michael could only marvel at the day. Not to mention the last few weeks and months, and in fact the last several years. It was far from being only about sex with this boy. Always had been. It was just about having him around and never wanting him to go away. It didn't take that very boy long to fall asleep, really, despite the fact that he wasn't able to stop smiling. Geeze. He couldn't remember feeling so much joy in his life. He'd always felt incredible love and support from his parents, but today had defined a new level or type of support. And Michael. He smiled. It was clear that his boylover had a great evening. The prom, the dances, the after-party, and especially the harbor cruise. Trevor had also been able to overhear most of Michael's talk with the guy in the car. He was so impressed with Michael's address of the situation. Hell, he'd not only stood up for his date, but for the other two guys and gay people everywhere. Totally cool.... Somewhere between not wanting this day to end and wanting tomorrow to come, he fell asleep.
