Josh found himself to be a bit more of a celebrity than he had thought. "Jeez, I didn't know getting a piercing in this establishment was so popular," Josh commented after several of both cell blocks had come to talk with him and wish him well. "The thing is it has created quite a stir. All the guys know you are not of the same ilk as the rest of us. They also know that just one of your attackers could have done you good and proper. And believe it or not, there is a kind of code of fair play even amongst thieves. So for five guys to plan and set off a four against one attack on the most vulnerable person in this place has kind of hit a sour note amongst the rest. Even some in Charlie are upset about it. Of course, the whole cell block was locked down for a day while the initial investigations started. The end result is everyone is more or less on your side and want to be seen to be. Not only by the rest of the inmates, but also by the officers. By showing favour towards you they are separating themselves from the guys who attacked you in the eyes of the officers," Andy explained. "And I would be surprised if Charlie Block does not have a new leader, possibly even before Phelps gets out of solitary," Chris added. Andy then steered Josh towards a couple of boys who were playing mini soccer. They stood and watched as the one boy scored his goal, which put him beyond being beaten, having scored more than half the goals the game offered. "Josh, this is Charlie, and this blond beauty is Desmond. These two answered our call for help when you got attacked." "Hi. Thank you, guys, very much. I am sorry you got some time in solitary because of me and I know I owe you. I just hope I will be able to show my gratitude some way soon." "Hey, it was not a problem. At least our stay in solitary was not like it usually is. We only did for you what we hope you would do for us. So nothing to pay," Charlie said. "Although I could think of some fun we could have together," Desmond added. "Like what?" "Shit, Josh, are you ever going to learn?" Andy asked. "Oh, I see." Josh blushed bright red as the penny dropped. "If it happens at all, it certainly is not going to happen until after Josh's arm is out of plaster and his pain has gone," Andy stated emphatically. "Well I still have ten months to go, so I can wait," Desmond replied, grinning. In the evenings there was a queue of candidates offering to help Josh with his shower, and Chris and Andy took advantage of this by letting them hold his arm out and up while they took their turns at washing him and making sure he was hard before the shower was over. Back in the cell they always either jerked or sucked Josh off to relieve his pressure and then helped each other out. Andy would not hear of Josh doing anything for them as long as he still was experiencing pain. So it was a great relief to Josh in more ways than one when his plaster was removed and the ultra sound showed that he did not need it anymore. The doctor helped him to straighten his arm that first time and showed him where to rub his muscles and tendons to get them stretched again. Within twenty-four hours of the plaster being off, Josh was able to swing his arm and bend and straighten it without feeling any pain. The wound had scarred over, so he did not need a dressing and could get it wet also. When Andy could see that Josh was out of pain and discomfort, he took Josh aside, even from Chris, and asked him if he was willing and wanting to have some involvement with Charlie and Desmond. "Desmond is definitely gay and he has already said he is up for it. Charlie I am not sure about. He might let you jerk him or blow him, but might not be willing to do something in return. But understand this: you do not have to do anything with either of them if you don't want to." "How do you and Chris feel about someone else getting together with me?" "In one way that does not come into it. In this place guys do things they would never do on the outside and usually it is every man for himself. But you have come in and basically turned our world upside down. You have not been here for a month yet and you have had such an impact on so many of us. And that includes the officers as well. You have made us look at each other in a different way. You have made us look at ourselves in a different way too. I have got a long way to go yet, but when I get out, I want to be different and make something of myself. But before you came in all I wanted to do was to finish my time without extending it and then go back and see how long I could go without getting caught again. And that is not just Chris and me. Look at how guys from the other cell blocks have been with you. And I hope you will still look on me as a friend when we are both out of this place." "Shit, you make me sound like an angel or something. I may have ended up here by mistake, but I have learnt a lot and I hope to use what I have learnt to try and make a difference. But that does not take away the fact that I owe you guys my life. If the four of you had not come to my rescue, where would I be now? Probably still in hospital with my balls in a petri dish beside my bed. How can I ever repay that?" "There is nothing to repay. I don't know how many times we have to tell you that for you to believe it. What I have just been talking about should tell you that. You have done more for us than we can do for you. But I know that you might feel better if you let Charlie and Desmond in on the fun a bit. But still it is your decision. Whatever you decide I will support and if that comes down to no sex with anyone then that will be it." "Serious? Why? You would not even consider making that offer to any of the other inmates here; so why me? I know you say I have had an influence on you, but so has the world and I can't change the world." "I wouldn't be so sure about that. You can certainly change the part of the world you are in. Did you know that the number of inmates being sent to the cooler since your attack has dropped by more than half? Officer Stuart tells me that they have been talking to some of the inmates who end up there more regularly and they all say that you have given them some hope. Something to think about. And you haven't even met half of these guys. You know by the end of your six months we will all be perfect little angels and they will be able to release us because they will know we will never break another law." "Shut the fuck up. You are now talking the biggest load of bull I have heard in a long time." "Okay the last bit was just me shitting you. But ask Officer Stuart and see if I have not told you the truth on that score." "Speak to Charlie so that he can give his real answer. If either of them want to do something with me then I am willing so long as it does not involve pain. I have had enough of that lately." "Okay, will do. One more thing -- I will be around, and if something gets out of hand call out. I will stop it before it gets bad." The two boys went back and joined in with the rest. A few moments later Andy went off in pursuit of Chris, to appraise him of the situation and then to find Charlie and have a word with him. Andy then came back to where Josh was but there was no opportunity for them to talk privately. While they were still standing there, Charlie Cummings came up and asked Josh if he could talk to him privately. The two boys moved off to a quiet corner. "I don't know if Andy has said anything to you yet. But I thought I wanted to speak to you personally, because I know that he has asked you about doing some stuff with me. I told him I didn't want to, but not to close the books on it. I just wanted to explain to you personally, because I think you deserve that. I am not gay and when I get out of here I will look for a nice girl to settle down with. When I first got in this place I did some stuff with other guys, mainly because I was forced to. Now sometimes the urge comes to have some action, but for the most part I take care of myself by myself. Don't think I am rejecting you, please. And if I feel like I want some help some time then maybe I will call on you. And don't feel like you owe me either. Since you came the pressure for me to do stuff with other guys has dropped. It has dropped because you have shown us that there is more to life than what hangs between our legs. You may not think so, but that is the truth. And for that we all owe you. So no hard feelings?" "Definitely not. Charlie, thank you for telling me that. I hope we can be friends and if you want something then ask. Who knows what the future holds? We might just be able to help each other." The two teens bumped knuckles together and moved back to join the others. Andy looked at Josh and raised an eyebrow in question. Josh smiled and gave him a thumbs up to show that all was okay. Seeing Charlie in the group with Josh, Desmond walked over and joined them. "Now this one might have a very different answer to the one I have given you," Charlie told Josh and the two of them laughed out loud. Andy, realising what the joke was, also began to laugh but Chris and Desmond just looked dumbfounded. Seeing the expressions on their faces caused the other three to laugh even more, which attracted some of those nearby. "Sorry guys, this is just a private joke which you would not understand," Andy told them. Coming from him that was a form of dismissal, so they turned and left again. Two days later, Josh was called out of his class by Officer Steven. "The Public Prosecutor is here and wants to have a talk with you," he explained as he led Josh towards the admin offices. Josh had not yet seen this part of the Academy and was quite surprised at the difference from the areas he was used to. He still had to be buzzed through a door, but now the walls were not a stark white and there was carpet on the floor. Also the lights did not have mesh guards over them and were not so high up as there was a lower ceiling. Josh was ushered into an office and told to wait there. Steven moved over to the lady at the desk and had a quiet word with her. She in turn picked up a telephone and pressed one button. After talking softly enough that Josh could not hear what was being said she told Steven that the Chief would see them now. Steven signalled to Josh to join him and they moved over to a different door to the one they had come in by. Steven knocked on the door and waited to be called in. He opened the door and guided Josh in front of him through the door. Standing behind the desk was an imposing man in full prison officer uniform with some extra braiding in places. "Thank you, Officer Steven, for bringing Mr. Tolmers to us. Please stay; you might be needed to help Mr. Tolmers with some things." Turning to a man standing on the other side of the desk, the chief carried on, "Officer Steven headed up the investigation into this incident, which is why I have asked him to stay with us." The chief then turned and looked at Josh. "Mr. Tolmers, I am glad to see that you seem to have recovered fully from this sorry ordeal. I hope that you will find some solace in your attackers being charged in a criminal court." Josh did not know if he was allowed to speak and so remained silent. "Mr. Tolmers, this is Attorney Lee. He will be leading the prosecution of the young men who attacked you and would like to talk with you a bit. You are allowed to say whatever you want to him. We will have to remain present but will not interfere and whatever you say will not be held either for or against you in this establishment. Do you understand." "Yes, thank you, er.. sir," Josh stammered. "Ah, sorry, you may call me Chief Craven." "Thank you, Chief Craven." "Mr. Tolmers, or may I call you Joshua?" Lee began. "Call me Josh if you prefer." "Thank you, Josh. I really just want to make sure that what we have been given as your personal evidence is correct and that it is how you have remembered the unfortunate incident. Is that okay with you?" "Yes, I guess, but I don't know that much." "That is all the better because the defence will try to trip you up and if you have not given much there is not much they can use to do so. Now as I understand it, this attack was because you had received your overalls a lot sooner than any other inmate. Is that correct?" Attorney Lee led Josh through all of his evidence and once he was finished he told Josh that he had done well and the defence were not going to be able to break that evidence which would make everything else look better too. Josh was then informed that he would be taken to the court the next day to give his evidence as he was one of the first that the prosecution will call to the stand.
