She said a lot more, but most of it passed straight over Josh's head as he was not familiar with the people she was talking about or things that had happened in the recent past. Timothy turned to look back at Josh and offered sympathetic looks of apology for his mother. Josh was not too concerned, because the lift home was better than a walk with too much time to brood. However he was still upset, and with Mrs. Clarke's incessant chatter his thoughts kept returning to his coffee with his mother, and he had to struggle to prevent himself tearing up again. As soon as they arrived outside the house, Josh said a hurried thank you and turned to move up the path to the front door. Timothy quickly got out of the car and ran to catch up to Josh. "Look, I know you are upset today, but can we get together sometime to just chat and catch up?" "Yeah, I guess so. But I don't have any way of contacting you at the moment, so I will just have to come round to your house or something when I have some time. Okay?" "What happened to your phone then? I've still got your number on my phone." "My stepfather took it when I was arrested and I haven't got it back. He probably sold it already." "Okay, either you come to me or I'll come here another day. And I hope you get whatever it is sorted. You are still my mate. Okay?" "Thanks, Tim. That means a lot to me. But please don't tell too many people that I am around at the moment. I still need to get myself sorted and used to being out." "You got it. I will keep quiet until you tell me it's okay." The front door opened and Simon stepped out. He immediately picked up that Josh was upset, and even though he had washed his face at Timothy's house Simon saw the signs of tears. "Hey, JB, what's up?" then turning towards Timothy, "What you been doing to him? You want your head knocked off?" "Simon, it's okay. This is an old friend of mine, Tim. His mother just gave me a lift home and he did nothing to hurt me. Just ease up, okay. Tim, sorry, say thanks to your mum for me, please. I'll catch you some time." Josh patted Tim on the shoulder and then turned and quickly moved inside the house, making a bee-line to his room. Tim was left looking at Simon, who did at least look embarrassed if not sorry. "I am glad you are sticking up for Josh. He's my friend. I don't know what upset him, but earlier he was way worse than he is now. Look after him, please." "Yeah. Look, sorry, I didn't mean to be rude. I just jumped to a wrong conclusion. This is the second time he has come home from town upset. I don't know what is setting him off, but if I knew I would try and do something about it." "You and me both. But he wouldn't talk to me either. I don't know what he has told you about himself, and I don't want to say something out of turn. So I'll let him tell you about me. Better run; mum's waiting in the car for me." "Err, no she's not. She's coming up the path." Tim turned to see his mother approaching. "Sorry, mum. I was just about to come back to you." "It's okay, Timmy, I just thought I would see if we can help in any other way." Tim cringed at his mother using the diminutive form of his name. Simon saw Tim's reaction and smiled. "Hello, Timmy's mum. I am Simon." "Hello, Simon. Is your mum or dad home?" "Dad's not got home yet, but mum is inside. Come on in." Simon led the way in and showed the two visitors to the lounge, announcing that he would go and find his mother. Leaving them there he dashed off, to return a few moments later with his mother and perform what introductions he could. Mrs. Clarke filled in the blanks, and Simon learned that Tim was the guy Josh had been with the night he got arrested. The two adults had a bit of a discussion and then Mrs. Clarke and Tim left, having exchanged contact details with Mrs. Silvey. Once alone, Simon told his mother that Josh was very upset again and in his room, and that he was going to try to talk to Josh and see if he could cheer him up. Simon tapped lightly on Josh's bedroom door. "JB, is it okay if I come in, please?" he asked. "Yeah, come on." "I'm sorry I had a go at your mate. I thought he had upset you but I learned afterwards he wants to help you too. One of my problems is that I always go off half-cocked and then learn later that I've been a fool again." "You are not a fool, Simon. Just need to slow down a bit maybe." "Yeah, I know, just don't remember to at the time. Anyway, it's you we need to sort out at the moment. Want to talk about it, JB?" "What's with this JB? My surname is Tolmers, so it should be JT." "Actually, JB is for jail bird. But if you want me to call you jail turd, that's okay by me." "Fuck off, you arsehole. Just call me Josh." "At least you smiled then. So want to talk about it or not?" "I don't know. I can't get a fucking job without my NI Number and my card was with all the things my arsehole stepfather took when I was arrested. I don't want to talk to him. It was bad enough talking to my mother, who cares more for him than me. Do you think Karl will be willing to go and fetch it for me? I can't see her again today." "I don't see why not. Hang on, I'll give him a call and see if he is up for it." Simon pulled his mobile out of his pocket and dialed his father's mobile. He spoke to his father and asked him the question and then said, "I don't know if Josh is up to going, he seems to have been badly upset by something and doesn't want to see his mother again today." He listened some more and then cut the call. "Dad will chat to you when he gets home. He says he should only be another half hour or so." "Thanks, and if you want to call me JB that is okay, but only that. And I don't want it explained to anyone else either. At least not yet." "So if you don't want to talk about whatever it is that has upset you so much, let's talk about something more pleasant, like your boyfriend. Tell me about him and why you love him." For the next twenty minutes the two boys talked quietly in the room, Josh doing most of the talking. He explained how Sam was when he arrived, how he had stripped off to help him get through the induction and then taught him to read and write, and the development of their feelings for each other. Simon merely added small comments and asked questions to keep Josh talking. He was a bit of a romantic at heart and found the story endearing. Suddenly Simon leaned forward and reached out his hand. "You don't only love Sam. You have the hots for him too." He concluded by grabbing hold of the tent in Josh's pants made by his hard cock. "I never said I didn't, and I can see the story has turned you on too." Josh pointed at the similar bulge in Simon's school trousers. "Josh, you know I haven't had any actual experience of this sort of thing yet ..." Simon's sentence was interrupted by the sound of Karl's car in the drive. "We'll have to finish this conversation later." Simon was clearly frustrated, and Josh could guess what it was he was about to say and was thankful that he would have a bit more time to think about his response. Both boys stood and straightened their cocks to hide their boners, pulling their shirts out to hang over their trousers. As they were leaving the room Josh put his hand on Simon's shoulder and stopped him. "Thanks for cheering me up." "It's okay. Somebody had to, because it really didn't look like you were going to do it yourself." "Yeah, you're right. I don't think I could have done it without help." They went through to the lounge, where Karl was just kissing Esther hello. "Hi, boys. Josh, can we have a cup of coffee and discuss this problem first, please?" "Uh, yes, sure. Although I don't know what there is to discuss." "Let's get that cup of coffee and then we can talk." Karl began walking towards the kitchen. "It's okay, Karl. Sit down and I will get the coffee. Esther, Simon, you want anything?" Both of them asked for tea and Josh went alone to the kitchen to get the drinks made. While he was out of the room Karl commented that he thought Simon and Josh were getting on better. "Yeah, dad. I was being an arsehole and he showed me that I was. You did right to bring him to stay here." "Well that is some admission to make, son. It's never easy to admit when you have made a mistake, but you know most people will forgive a person who is willing to own up to his own shortcomings. I think you have found that in Josh." "I think he never needed to forgive me because he never held it against me in the first place and that takes some doing too." "Yes, I believe you are right there. You know something, Esther? I think our little boy is suddenly becoming a man." "Well it is about time," Josh quipped as he carried the tray of drinks in. "Enough of that from you, JB. " "Hey, a bit of a stroppy man at that!" Josh teased some more. "If this is what upset looks like on you, what does extreme joy look like?" Karl asked. "No, it's not upset. Your man, Simon, helped me with that." Esther beamed and Karl smiled. They were both pleased with how quickly Simon had turned. If they knew the reason why they might not have been quite so pleased, but that information was not due for release yet. Karl took a sip of his coffee and then started, "After Simon phoned me, I phoned David Groggen and asked his advice on what to do in this matter, because I did not want to risk damaging your case. I do not have any legal standing to go around to your mother and ask for the NI card. Just because you are staying with me does not make me your guardian or anything like that. So I can go there and I can ask. If she refuses to give it to me, I cannot take any further action. I will also have to reveal to her that I am the person who is giving you refuge, and although you are of the legal age to consent, you are still legally a minor, so your mother has right of custody over you. She also has a right to know where you are staying, and if she asks I am legally bound to tell her this address. And if she comes over I cannot forcefully prevent her from taking you away from us. With all that in mind we are faced with two options. I can still go over there and ask for the card, and we hope that she has not got any legal knowledge of her standing and just hands it over. Or you can wait and use the lawyer to get it for it you, but that will take weeks. Now I know we have been over this before, but that was before we knew some of the legal stuff. There is another option. I lend you money that you need, within reason, and when you get the settlement that you are almost guaranteed to get you can pay me back, and then you don't need to work." "But I'm not yet seventeen. That means that I don't reach the age of majority for over a year yet. That is a lot of time for which I will need some money. I can't deprive your family of that as well as my keep. It is not fair on any of you. I, ... we'll just have to take the chance and see if she will hand it over without a fight. So long as that pimp is not there it shouldn't be a problem." "Josh, it is only a little more than a year, and it won't be that much money. Not going on what they give me anyway. I don't mind going without so that you can have a bit of a life," Simon offered and got another glowing look of pride from his mother. "There is no need for anyone but our savings to go without. What we lend you will come out of what we would have put aside in savings. When you pay it back it will go straight into our savings, so there is no need to worry on that score." Karl assured Josh. "Thank you. You folk are very generous, but I really don't feel comfortable about that. Please can we first just go and try to get my stuff back?" "Of course. It is entirely your choice. If that's what you want, that is what we will do," Karl stated. "Can we go soon, please?" "Esther, have we got time to do this before the tea is ready?" Karl asked. "The tea is ready and can sit in the oven until we are ready. Go now and then we can relax after tea," Esther said. "I'm coming too," Simon said. "Erh, I didn't think this was a family affair. I thought it would be just me and maybe Josh." "I had wanted it that way because I don't really want to see my mother again, but I can't let you face her alone. I don't mind if Simon comes too. Esther as well if you want to." "No, I'll stay here and keep the fort safe. The three of you can go and do it."
