PREVIOUSLY:

Kid discovered that the band his brother had joined, (The Dudes of the Cul de sac) was founded by and included Ed Saraland and Phil Garne. His ex-boyfriend now being thrown back into his life, Kid's only good news recently was coming out to Henry who was gay as well. Kid wanted to share it with their mother like Henry was successfully able to, but Henry warned him that the recent family circumstances coupled with her already having a gay son could make it difficult for her to accept.

PART 3:

"She paused before saying to Kid, "I'm happy for him. This year hasn't been easy for Henry, for any of us. What with Grampa dying and... other things he's had to come to terms with, I'm proud of him for being strong enough to let me know when he's hurting. I've raised three amazing boys."

Kid knew she must've been including Henry's coming out, and his mother was in a sentimental mood and loving all her children, and the two of them were alone, Kid wanted to tell her his secret. He remembered what Henry said, but maybe he was wrong. This could be Kid's opportunity! But alas, he couldn't take the chance. Not yet.

Over the next 3 weeks Henry had gotten to know the band a lot better. He knew Ed's favorite songs, Phil's favorite foods, and even Jericho's birthday. He soon discovered it wasn't a secret that Ed and Phil were an item. Still, that was a detail he wouldn't be sharing with his parents. Henry had planned to come out to his band mates after they had really established a friendship, but the more he learned about Ed, the more fetching he seemed. He was tall, nice, funny, and it didn't always look like Phil was his perfect match. An innocent crush, but Henry was falling for Ed.

"Hey, Henry. What's up?" asked Kid.

"We have our first gig in 2 days and I'm crazy excited. Also, guess what!"

"What?"

"You know my band mates, Ed and Phil? They're gay too!"

"Really?" Kid said, a bit surprised that Henry knew.

"Yeah, but don't tell mom or dad, they'd make me quit."

"Sure thing, Henry," said Kid with a small frown.

"Since I guess I have no one else to talk to about this yet, I might as well tell you. I kinda-sorta-maybe have a crush on Ed."

"What?!"

"Why are you so surprised? You might not be attracted to adult men just yet, but you saw him when he was here. He was quite a catch, wasn't he?"

"I guess, but--but what about Phil?"

"Relax, I just think Ed's cute, that's all."

Kid wasn't sure how to feel about this. It felt really weird having his brother be into the same guy. As much as Kid would want to deny it, he still had feelings for Ed, and worse, Kid felt as if Henry might actually have a shot with Ed if he went for it.

"I thought you were dating Cameron," asked Kid.

"We were never dating. Turns out he's had this girlfriend for a year but she's all into abstinence so he scoped out sluts and queers to take care of him. As the desperate latter, I fell for it and thought we might have a real relationship. Well, I was wrong and... he's never coming back."

"I'm sorry to hear that, Henry."

"Don't be. They say the perfect kiss lasts 5 seconds? Well Cameron never even tried. I'll find someone else. "

"I'm sure you will," Kid said in an quiet voice.

Meanwhile, Ed and Phil were at their apartment. In bed, no less. Unfortunately, their sex life had been nearly non-existent for over a month. A combination of stress and increasing animosity made any real physical contact uncomfortable. "I'm sure we'll knock it out of the park, Ed, but I have one question," said Phil.

Ed nodded.

"I think Henry's a good player, but... did you want him just so you'd have an opportunity to get close to Kid again?"

"It'd been a month. I didn't remember Kid had an older brother, and I barely remembered their last name."

"You expect me to believe that?"

"It's the truth, Phil. I thought you were over this by now. Why don't you trust me?"

"'Over this?' The only reason I haven't called the cops is because I love you. As for the trust... That'll take a while to come back." Ed didn't respond, but entered a deep thought. "Whatever, Ed. I'll be in the shower."

Kid Kauber went over to Jeremy's house after school to give him some updates. A lot had happened, and he couldn't share it all with Henry anymore. "You know The Dudes of the Cul de sac? Henry's their new drummer, but that's not all. The band was started by Ed and Phil!"

"Uh-oh," said Jeremy. "That might make it hard for you to avoid Ed."

"It will. The family is going to see their first gig tomorrow. Also... Henry's gay."

"What? No way!"

"Way. I'll spare you the details but now I know he's gay and he knows I'm gay."

"But not about you and Ed, right?"

"Nope. Only you and Phil know about that."

"Kid, my advice when you go to their gig. Stay as far as possible from Ed. Excuse yourself if you have to. You said it yourself, he's a monster."

Back at home, Henry was lying on his bed and trying to study, but he kept getting distracted thinking of Ed. "This is MISERABLE," he said. "I want him so bad..." Henry started jerking off just thinking of Ed's face, his body, his wicked guitar skills. "Oh, Ed. Phil's not the one for you!" He was in love with him. Working together on something they both cared about coupled with getting to know his finer qualities, Henry was smitten.

The day of the gig, the whole family was excited. Unfortunately, Paul had to stay home and do something for work, so the boys' mother took them to the club. "I wish I could go, but your mother's recording will have to do. Good luck, Son."

"Thanks, Dad. I'll give it my all!" Henry was actually glad his father wasn't going. Henry planned to tell his band mates tonight.

The family arrived and Henry helped Ed and Phil set up. They appreciated it, but couldn't help but notice a nervous smile on Henry's face the whole time. They chalked it up to just pre-show jitters. "This place is a ghost town," said Phil. "I blew us up online, I don't know why the place isn't fuller."

Ed tried to reassure Phil. "Relax, I'm sure that--"

"Shut. Up," Phil interrupted bluntly. "Thank god you're not the singer because I can't stand your voice today. I swear, I have half a mind to..." He mumbled the rest and crossed his arms.

"Don't mind him, Henry. He's just a little anxious." Kid and the family were at the other side bowling until it was time for the band to perform. Henry didn't want to tell Phil anymore, not directly, and he didn't really care about sharing it with their bassist because Jericho was straight. Henry needed Ed to know, he needed to open up that option, that window that they could be together, or at least hook up.

"Ed, I need your advice on something. Can I see you in the back for a minute?" asked Henry.

"Sure. Jericho, take over on setup for me 'til I get back." The two went aside and Henry motioned Ed out the exit to a secluded area behind the venue. "Is something wrong? I never played the drums, I can't give you any tips."

"No, it's not that. I need your advice in like, relationships and stuff," Henry said.

"Don't know how much help I'll be. You see how things are going with me and Phil. He won't even talk to me. I'm sure you want better than that with your... girl."

"Well, actually, there's this guy I like."

Ed's eyes widened and a smirk broke across his face. "Really? Wouldn't have guessed, more power to ya."

"This guy... he's awesome, and I wanna make a move but I'm scared."

"Is he straight? Don't put yourself in danger, but if you believe he might be gay, you should go for it."

"He's gay."

"Okay... then why haven't you made your move? He's not out of your league, you're a good looking kid."

"I haven't because he's in a relationship," Henry said, looking Ed dead in the eyes.

Ed paused. He quickly put the pieces together and didn't know what to think. He stared back at Henry.

"He's... unhappy. I know his guy isn't right for him. He deserves better. He deserves someone who'll appreciate him body and soul. Every last thought, every last inch," the teen said.

"Henry..." Henry leaned in and kissed Ed. This kiss was still, precise. What it may had lacked in passion, it surely made up for in skill. Ed could hear Henry's heart beating while the two were locked.

A perfect 5 seconds, Henry slowly backed off and asked, "So, where do we go from here?" Ed was shocked. Not only had he just kissed his Ex's brother, and cheated on his current boyfriend, but he was now in the exact same situation he was 10 years ago with Phil in that basement. Indulge the minor, or continue an unsatisfied existence?

Back home, Paul Kauber was working on a huge project for work. He hated himself for putting work ahead of his boys, especially after he promised to devote more time to them, but with opportunities like these, he could retire 10 years earlier than he had always imagined. That seemed worth a few nights of pencil pushing and elbow grease. As he spun around to look out his window, he felt his phone vibrate. It was a call from an old friend named Marty. "How are you doin' Paul? It's been too long! We missed you this summer. How's your wife and the boys?"

"They're fine, Marty. We woulda stopped by, but that was when we went up to take care of my dad."

"That's okay, at least I got to see one of the boys. Kip, was it?"

"Kid, like a baby goat. What do you mean you saw him? He was either home with Henry and Benjamin, or at his friend, Jeremy's house while we were gone."

"Few months back the missus and I were at Shirley's Diner and saw your boy, Kid. Didn't recognize the other two with him, though."

"You must be mistaken, Kid could never travel that far with strangers."

"We'd remember those big green eyes anywhere, that was Kid. He was with some brown-headed boy and a man I didn't know."

"The other boy might've been Jeremy, but why would they go across town to a diner with some strange man. Must've been a look-a-like, Marty."

"I asked the waitress if she recognized that man. Apparently whenever he shows up he's alone, and always orders the ice cream platter challenge, but didn't that time. His name was Fred? No, wait--Ed. Yeah, it's Ed. Folks down there just call him the Ice Cream Guy."

Paul went from doubt to fear in only a minute. He didn't know what to make of this. A child that might be his son, at a diner with a man that might be their Ice Cream Man, with facts that only might be true by word of mouth. He'd have to do some more investigating, but this could be troubling news. Would he discover that Kid and Ed took Jeremy to meet some non-existent girl, or see it as a pervert abducting two children?
