Barry parades right into the emergency room and hugs his son. "So, how did all this happen?" He turns to Matty. "Oh, you're not going to blame me for this one!" Chad gives as an excuse, "If it wasn't for Christmas..." "Oh now, Chad, don't go blaming your own stupidity on the greatest holiday of the year!" Matty replies. "Oh, and dad-Barry?" Matty calls his `dad-in-law', as if one of the smaller kids. "Yes, Matty?" Barry turns, expecting more details. "This here is Dr. D'Agostino." "Nice to meet you, Dr...." "Call me Tony. Good to meet you too, Mr. Barr." "Barry," Barry states, shaking Tony's left hand, since a pair of scissors is chopping up a bandage, with his rightie. Forgetting all about the way Chad's foot got so bruised, Barry asks, "So, Tony how bad is it?" "There's nothing broken. No fractures. I'd say your son has a tough foot here. Why, I've seen some bowling ball accidents that have caused some serious damage." "Bowling ball?" Barry's attention diverts back to the subject of the accident, along with a gaze to Chad. Matty tries to help explain away Chad's stupidity, "It was only a foot above his foot, dad-Barry." "Still, Chad, you know you shouldn't be putting something round on a shelf. Remember what happened with the skateboard?" "Skateboard?" Matty inquires. Even the twenty-six year old doctor picked up on that one, "What happened with the skateboard?" "Oh, dad. Why did you even have to bring it up?" "Skateboard?" Matty replies, his hand on Chad's thigh, moving dangerously towards his crotch, in case a forced confession is necessary. "Hey, just back off, huh Matty?" Barry and Tony look at each other, wondering what the two's private joke is. They'd never guess that at times, Matty's tried a little lite, friendly `nut-busting' to gain information from Chad. Since Tony looks to Barry for the key to the skateboarding incident, he spells it out for them. "Seems that Chad decides to store his new skateboard in his room. So..." "Oh come on, dad!" "Hush Preppy!' Matty dictates, rubbing Chad's thigh. Barry continues, "So, Chad decides to put it on the top shelf of a book shelf. Sometime during the middle of the night, the skateboard decides to take on a life of it's own. The wheels begin turning and it rolls off the shelf and kerpow-splash-crack." "Oh no, don't tell me," Dr. D'Agostino replies, as he breaks from slicing bandages. "Yep. Right into the fish tank, but that's not all. It shatters the glass and here we are in the middle of the night, fishing for goldfish." "Yeah," Chad finally starts laughing about the whole incident, "we didn't find one of the goldfish. Remember what happened dad?" "Clogged up the vacuum two weeks later!" Barry replies. "How old were you when this happened?" Tony asks. "I dunno. How old was I dad?" Standing there, Barry smiles, staring at Chad, in a lull, as if daydreaming. "Yo! Earth to dad?" Matty signals, snapping his finger in Barry's face. "What?" "Chad was wondering how old he was?" Tony refreshes the question. "How old?" Barry says, rubbing his three-o'clock shadow. "I think you were thirteen, son. Not much more than fourteen, at the most." "Dad, you think that skateboard is still lying around somewhere?" "Forget it, Preppy!" They all laugh at Matty's response to the possibility of Chad trying to even `set foot' on the board. % "I don't know if I can do this," Patrick states, standing at the back door of the house. "Well Pat, y'know Zach is mighty anxious to see you," Gary informs the eighteen year old. "Yeah," Mike also adds, "Zach has been feeling mighty low lately, because he hasn't seen you for awhile." "He has?" Patrick replies, looking to Mike. Mike acknowledges the statement on Patrick's face, shaking his head in the affirmative. "I still don't know." "The only way to find out, Pat, is to face the situation head on," Gary tells him, his hand turning the back door knob. Patrick takes a big deep breath, then steps in the back door, ushered in between Gary and Mike. Unknowing to either of them, Zach had come down to the kitchen for a light snack. His back faces them, as he prepares himself a PBnJ sandwich. Observing Zach at the counter, they halt. Mike closes the door, as Gary holds his flat palm out, as if to pave the way. Patrick slowly walks towards Zach. Stopping a moment, he turns his head back. Gary smiles, irking him on with a head gesture. Not sure of what his emotions are dictating to him right now, Patrick holds his hands out, wanting to touch Zach. Then, suddenly, Zach turns. In a fit of rushed emotions, the glass of milk falls out of Zach's hand, followed by the PBnJ sandwich. Both glass and plate crash upon impact. Totally ignoring the sound, Zach throws his arms around Patrick. "Patrick? Oh my God, Patrick!" Zach yells out, as his arms engulf the eighteen year old lover. "Oh God, Patrick, what are you doing here?" Squeezing the living daylights out of Patrick, Zach is holding an eternal kiss to his neck, as tears stream down his face. Slowly, Patrick's hands find their way the twenty-two year olds torso, then around his back, hugging as well. At the same time, Mike and Gary are sharing in the joyous moment. Coming up behind Gary, Mike's hands surround his shoulders; arms. "Isn't this great to see?" "I worried about Zach so much." "I know you did, Gary, but you're not the only one." "You, Mike? You're the one that kept your cool. Here I am a shrink and I've acted like the biggest worry-wart!" "The important thing is that things look on the mend." "Yes." Totally ignoring the mess on the floor, except for the fact of watching not to slip and fall on his ass, Gary leads the two over to where the boys are standing, still embraced in a hug-lock. "Welcome home, Patrick," Gary states, rubbing the teen on the shoulder. "That goes for me too, Pat," Mike extends the warm greeting. After about ten minutes of being cemented together, Mike and Gary begin to disturb the two. "Why don't you boys take your little reunion upstairs," Gary tells them. Mike adds, "Yeah, get cleaned up," referring to the splashed milk on Zach's sweatpants, the jelly mess to left of the Nike insignia on his tee shirt. "Oh, looks like I've gotten you all dirty, Patrick," Zach apologizes, looking at the middle of Patrick's flannel shirt. The two leave, as Mike goes to the pantry for the broom. Climbing the stairway, the two remain side by side, leaning with arm over each other's shoulder. "Patrick, I can't tell you how great it is to have you here." They enter the bedroom. "Wow, this place is a mess!" "Yeah," Zach admits, "I kind of let it go to hell." "Why?" By this time, Zach has stripped his tee shirt off, revealing his dark, hairy painted chest, the sliver of trail down his stomach. He reattaches himself to Patrick, his arms around the teen's waist. "My mind hasn't been too keyed into everything lately, Patrick.... Except.... You!" He didn't let Patrick get a response in, closing up the chest-to-chest gap, plastering his lips on the young lover. Again, Patrick felt the reluctance to lift his arms, but as the kiss lasted and lasted, he warmed up to the trust he once experienced with Zach. With a slow movement of his hands, Zach began reaping the flannel shirt from the pants. However, Patrick's hands dropped down to his own waist, making Zach stop the intrusion. "What's the matter?" Zach asked, looking Patrick straight in the face. "Zach.... Something happened at the reform school." "What do you mean something happened, Patrick?" Short-lived became Patrick's burst of happiness, as his eyebrows showed his what was to follow. "Zach, I don't blame you if you don't want me, after what I tell you." "Not want you, Patrick? I'm madly in love with you. How could I `not what you'?" "Because.... Well, a couple of weeks ago I was..." Like a few moments ago, Zach walks up to Patrick, offering himself. "Zach, a coupla guys jumped me, beat me up and.... Zach, they raped me." "Oh God no, Patrick!" All the way home, as the parole officer drove him to the West Richland Police Department building, to hookup with Mike, Patrick had thought about the rejection. From the police station, to the house, it's all he could think about. Now, the news of his abduction, taken to a secluded area of the reform school, harassed physically and sexually, was slowly dissolving from his mind, as Zach holds him tightly. "You... You still want me, Zach?" Crying like a baby, the two confer, Zach sharing his unconditional love, as Patrick stands there, accepting it, with such joy in his heart. % "Did they get home yet?" "Who?" Sixteen year old Denis Clark asks. "Hey, Where's my dad," Mark asks. Dad-Callan replies, "I brought dad-Steve here, home, because your dad had to meet Chad at the hospital. Both sixteen year olds jump up off the sofa and bark out, "What's wrong?" "Nothing serious," Steve relates to the two, "but as I understand it from the school secretary, Chad had a minor fracture or something of that sort to his foot." The two boys, `studying' together, resume their sitting position next to each other, open books over their crotches. "Getting a lot of studying done?" Steve inquires. "Um, yeah dad," Denis replies. In the affirmative, Mark says, "Yeah, dad-Steve. We're studying for our history exam." "Oh? Then how come you have your science books out?" "Oops!" They reply. Callan suggests, "I guess I better be on my way. My turn to cook dinner tonight." Steve, in addition to "Bye," adds, "happy nuking!" "Hi guys!" That cheerful as ever response comes in the nick of times, to keep denis and Mark from getting busted. "Hi dad!" Aidan greets his father. Following them, Sean enters. He also hugs his father. "Any homework, boys?" "You never change, do you dad?" Sean asks his father. "Somebody has to keep things in check here," Steve responds, looking to Denis and Mark, still sitting on the sofa. Sean isn't blind to what's happening in the front room. He walks over to the two teens and lifts up their books. "Heeeeey!" Denis cries out, yelling at his brother. "Hee hee..." Sean replies, giggling, "Just checking!" Fortunately, for the two sixteen year olds, the bulges have subsided! Philip and Aidan might be young, but not too young to `know' what Sean had been seeking. After all, it's not like they haven't `been there'; `done it'! "Naughty boys," Aidan comments. "Um, the homework boys?" "Oh yeah. We did it in school, dad-Steve," Philip replies. "Well, I think you and Mark," Steve directs, "should report to the dining room table to finish your studying?" "Ohhh, busted!" Sean taunts the two. "Shut up, Sean," Denis says, trying to grope his older brother, as he tries to get up. Mark hints Denis, "Cool it, Denis, you don't want to make him feel good!" "I'm not into that kinky stuff anymore, so there!" "Yeah, sure Sean," Denis teases. "I'm not!" "Okay boys, that's enough," Steve tells them. That got Sean off the hook with the older boys. "Sean, is it true you like getting your balls squashed?" "Where did you hear something like that, Philip?" Steve patted Sean on the back, saying, "Have fun!" He left Sean to fend his own battles, as he accompanied Mark and Denis to the dining room. "We heard Mark and Denis talking about it," Aidan fills Sean in. Sean figures that there's no time like the present, while the subject is fresh on their minds, to try to explain himself. "Listen, guys. C'mon in here and sit a minute." As they follow Sean to the U-shaped conglomeration of sofas and chairs, Philip also adds to the inquiry, "And you liked to get whipped, too?" "Listen guys," Sean begins in on the explanation, trying to keep it brief, "this is kind of a grown up thing." Philip says, "Oh, our balls aren't big enough to play with!" "That's good," Sean says, then continues, "but what I was going to first tell you is that this is between you two guys and me, okay?" "Sure Sean," they both agree. Crossing their hearts and hoping to die, if they reveal anything to a single person, other than God, they swear. They also hold their crossed fingers behind their backs, just in case they slip and say anything to anyone! % "Um, dad?" "Yes, Chad?" "I have a confession to make." "Oh? And what's that son?" As Barry and Matty walk the `invalid' up to the front door of the Barr-Clark home, invited for dinner, Chad states, "Dad, that skateboard didn't fall `into' the aquarium." Barry stops, as Matty keeps going. "Owwwch! Oh.. Oh!" "Sorry there, son." "My fault," Chad replies. "Your fault, meaning the skateboard?" "My fault meaning that and well, I suppose I shouldn't lay shocking news on you while in motion?" "Um, can we take this inside?" Matty asks the two. Barry says, "I think Chad and I are going to take a little stroll, Matty." "Yeah, okay," Matty replies, letting go of Chad's arm. They walk a few feet to the stone wall that divides the garage area from the house. "Are you okay there, son?" "I'm fine, dad. Thanks." "So now, what is all this about?" "It depends on how you look at it. Could be good or bad." "Well, first of all, I'm totally lost at your meaning, so why don't you start at the beginning?" "Okay, so you probably already know what dumb stuff kids do when they're young, right?" "With four, I've been through the wringer a few times, or more, wondering why you boys did what you did, but I was a kid at one time too, so I can rightly understand." "I don't if I got all that dad, but here's what really happened with the skateboard." "I have to admit you've got me in suspense, son?" "Well, you see, the skateboard didn't really start rolling on it's on." "Hmm... figured it must've gotten a `push' from somewhere. So?" "Dad, I don't know when it hit you." "What hit me?" "You haven't talked much about you being a boy and being gay." "Oh, is this what this is about?" "Dad, that day in school, the same day the skateboard fell in the fish tank, I was talking with one of the guys, in gym class." "Yes, and?" "Boy, I'm glad you're used to this." "Used to what?" "Listening to older guys... you know, being principal of a high school and all." "Yeah and I get it from students all the time, trying to `beat-around-the-bush'?" Barry insinuated. A lull occurred, as Chad smiled, sticking his cold hands in his pockets of his jacket. "Yeah, okay dad. You snagged me there." "Chad, listen. Whatever happened, happened years ago. It doesn't matter." "Alright, so this is what happened," Chad replied. Extracting his hands, using gestures to explain, Chad spelled out how his buddy and he made their simultaneous, gay discovery in school. He told of how they caught each other in gym class, glancing at each other during the wrestling match. He moved his hands about, showing how they wrestled around on the mat. He showed his dad, imitating holding his cock, to show how their body contact, aroused each other. He stated that in the locker room, they waited in the shower till all the other guys departed and then held each other's cocks, jerking each other off. "Quite a big day for both of you boys, I'd say, son." "Yeah, but that wasn't the end of it. We wanted more." Giggling, Barry states, "And why doesn't that surprise me?" "Dad, we were just fourteen years old!" "Frankly, son, I'm surprised it took you that long." "Oh? Why's that dad?" "Well look at Philip and Aidan, for starters!" "Oh yeah. Shit! They're only ten and eleven and they've turned into two little horny bastards!" Barry didn't much like the reference, but thought the way Chad presented it, to be comical. "It's getting damn cold out here. Want to get to the skateboard?" "Oh yeah. So, Greg and I...." "Greg Hildegaard?" "Yeah. You remember him?" "At least you know how to pick'em, son!" "Thanks dad. Now can I get on with it?" "By all means." "Okay, so we wanted to go to bed. Greg said it would be impossible to meet at his place." "I don't doubt it, his dad having just had the biggest selling book in bookselling history." "Hmm... you have a good memory for... ahem! Never mind...." Barry let his son slide on the slander. "So, Greg climbed in the window of my room. We stripped down, lay in bed, sucked each other off and then he got up to leave." "I guess this is where the shit hit the fan?" "Yeah... hee hee...... Being that it was dark in the room, he got nabbed on the shoulder with the corner of the shelf." "Okay. Let's go inside." "Wait! Don't you want to hear the rest, dad?" Chad replies, grabbing onto his dad's jacket. "What more is there? Greg hits the shelf, the skateboard takes a dive and goes for a swim." "Hee heee... I figured you'd want to hear how Greg took a dive out the window `before' being able to put his clothes on?" "Oh that's right. When the boys, your mother and I got in there, Greg wasn't there. Your mother did wonder why you were sleeping with the window open, with it being thirty degrees out." "Yeah and Greg sat outside for forty minutes, freezing his ass off till I was able to toss his clothes out to him." "Ooooh, so that's how he caught pneumonia!" "It all fits together, huh dad?" "Yes and also that part about how you went over to visit him at the hospital so vigilantly." "Dad?" "Yes, son?" "I really loved Greg." Something choked Barry up, thinking about how his son, so young had to be burdened with the loss of a first love. A love that he himself had no idea existed. "Chad, I.... I'm awful sorry." Chad wept, hugging his father. "What's this? All over a waterlogged skateboard and a sucked up golfish?" Matty asked, tee shirted and his hands stuck in his jeans pockets. Barry asks, "I take it you haven't spoken to Matty about this, Chad?" "About what?" Matty inquires, lost in the translation of feelings. As Barry ascends, Matty takes the father's place on the stone wall and also as the hugging post. % Continued...... Copyright 2005 T.
