Chapter 24 – Dodging Bullets.

“Are you the owner/operator or one of the staff?” the woman asked.

“I’m the owner/operator and right now I’m the only staff.”

“Oh, that’s highly unusual,” she muttered while glancing over at her companion.  “So who does all of the work?” 

“I cook the meals, do the laundry and take care of the grounds.  The boys help clear off the table, load the dishwasher, and they also help clean different areas of the house.” 

“So how many residents do you have?”

“Currently there are four boys.” 

“So there are no female residents?” 

“No.  If there were females residents then I would need to hire female staff members to deal with them.” 

“Yes, that’s correct,” she mused before her partner spoke up. 

“Why don’t you just take us on a tour then,” Rob urged. 

I showed them the downstairs first and pointed out the great room, kitchen, and dining area, which were all visible from where we were standing.  Then I took them to see the family and laundry rooms next.  Fortunately, we had cleaned up the dining area and kitchen after we ate breakfast this morning and the laundry was currently caught up, and the family room was in decent shape as well.  I was also relieved that the boys were all dressed when they were standing at the top of the stairs when these two first entered, although they disappeared quickly after Rob announced who they were. 

After I’d showed them the downstairs, we headed upstairs so they could inspect the bedrooms next.  Two of the boys were on the computers working on the educational software, and the other two were in their rooms reading the books I’d given them. 

“Are these common activities for the boys?” Rob asked. 

“Yes, the boys are required to spend a minimum of an hour each day working with the educational software on the computers, which has applications appropriate for each of their academic levels.  Those who aren’t able to be on the computers are asked to read the books that I’ve provided for them, and those are also appropriate for their current grade levels.” 

Amy had been checking out the computer programs the boys were working on while Rob was asking the other boys about the books they were reading.  When they finished doing that, they both went to check out the two bathrooms next. 

“I’m impressed with what I’ve seen so far and the boys appear to be enjoying what they’re doing,” Rob stated. 

“Thank you, and they do enjoy the time they spend on either of those activities, and I also allow them to play games on the computer once they’ve finished working with the education software.  It’s a reward for being cooperative.” 

“I see, but do they get any recreational time?” 

“Yes, I have ATVs that I’ve taught them how to drive, and yesterday I took them for a hike on the government land that abuts my property.  The boys will also be swimming with me in the pond that you passed when you were coming up the driveway.”  

“Ok, that sounds adequate, so how much land do you own?” 

“The house is part of 960 acres that I purchased.”

“I didn’t know this was such a large place,” Rob muttered to himself, obviously impressed. 

“Since you’re the only staff, where do you sleep?” Amy asked next. 

“In the master bedroom, which is right over here,” I said, and then I led them inside. 

“Do you also use the same bathrooms as the boys?” Amy asked as she was looking around. 

“No, I have my own bathroom, and I apologize that my bed isn’t made yet.  The boys were hungry so I hurried downstairs to feed them.” 

“It doesn’t look too bad,” Rob noted. 

He was correct.  Apparently one of the boys had straightened it up a bit and thankfully he’d also removed the clothes the three of us had taken off the previous night, because we’d left them scattered about on the floor. 

While Rob and I were still chatting, Amy walked over to Dakota’s room and asked him a question.  “What did you have for breakfast this morning?” 

“A cheese omelet, home fries, bacon, and sausages.” 

She looked surprised, and then she walked over to Glen’s room next.  “And what did you have for dinner last night?” she inquired.

“Uhhh, pizza, some broccoli thingy, and a salad.” 

“What type of salad?” she challenged. 

“With lettuce, tomatoes, and dressin’,” he replied.  Once again she raised her eyebrows in surprise. 

She then returned to the master bedroom and I showed her the bathroom and my closet.  “My god, your closet is bigger than my bathroom she said when she saw it.” 

“Yes, I went big when I did everything.” I replied. 

“This reminds me, we didn’t check out the closets in the other bedrooms,” she told Rob. 

“I think you’ll be impressed with those as well,” I said as I followed her over to Dakota’s room. 

“Young man, may I look in your closet?” she asked. 

“Yeah, it’s right there,” he responded. 

She opened the door and gasped.  “This is larger than the closet in my bedroom, and it’s got built in drawers and shelving, as well as bars to hang their clothes on.  Are they all this big?”

“Yes, the other closets are basically identical, and I insist the boys take care of their things.” 

“Impressive,” Rob stated, “but the occupancy certificate said this place is appropriate for up to sixteen residents.” 

“Yes, but for the time being I left the rooms the way they were before I made my home into a residential center, but if we take in more boys I’ll take the beds out of the rooms and put them in storage.  Then, I’ll replace them with bunk beds, and it was determined that each room would be suitable for two sets of bunk beds.  This means that each bedroom can accommodate four people, and with four bedrooms that accounts for the occupancy determination of sixteen.” 

“I see, and this is quite a place.  The boys have plenty of room, both inside and outside, and they seem to be well fed and have suitable programs established for them.  I would, however, like to see what transportation you use when you take them out somewhere.” 

“Then follow me to the garage.” 

I took Rob and Amy downstairs and showed them the Cadillac Escalade ESV, along with the ATVs.” 

“You may need a larger vehicle if you take in more residents, but this is suitable for now,” he stated.  “Do the boys have proper safety equipment when they ride the four-wheelers,” he added as he pointed toward the ATVs.

“Yes, they’re back there on the workbench,” I explained, and then I took him back to show him the goggles and gloves inside each helmet.  “And I have them wear a pair of Dockers and a long sleeve tee-shirt whenever they ride on them.”

“Very good and those seem sufficient for the purpose.” 

When we walked back to where Amy was waiting, she looked at me and spoke.  “Thank you for showing us around and I’m pleased to inform you that we haven’t observed any deficiencies, so you’ll be getting a positive inspection report mailed to you for your files.” 

“Thank you and I’m glad you were pleased with what you saw today.” 

“It was all very appropriate,” Rob added, “but you may have to make some changes if you accept more residents, such as the bunk beds and a larger vehicle, possibly a small bus.” 

“Yes, I’ll keep that in mind.” 

“Thank you very much for showing us around, and we may see you again in the future.” 

“You’re very welcome and I look forward to your next visit.” 

Now that the inspection was over, I walked them out to the car they were driving, obviously a government vehicle.  As soon as I went back into the house the boys came racing downstairs to see if everything was ok. 

“Did they like what they saw?” Dakota asked. 

“Yes, as well as what you boys told them.” 

“When we heard them tell you who they were, we went back to our rooms to make our beds and pick up a little,” Laine confessed. 

“Yes, I saw and appreciated that, and someone took care of my bedroom as well.  Luckily the downstairs was already in fairly good shape, including the family room.” 

“Me and Dakota went to your bedroom after we fixed ours,” Jamie added.  “We just wanted to make sure they didn’t find anything wrong, cuz we didn’t want to hafta leave here.” 

“Yeah, we was startin’ to worry ‘bout that,” Glen confessed. 

“Well we’re safe until their next visit.”

Now that we were all able to take a deep sigh of relief, we went back to what we’d been doing.  As I was walking away I now had a greater appreciation for the old saying, ‘when it rains it pours’.  Not only were we dealing with the current development in Jamie’s parental situation, but those two showed up unannounced to inspect the facility.  I hope everything else goes as well as this visit had. 

Seeing Amy and Rob had thrown off my plans for the morning, I mentally made some adjustments to what I was going to do, and then I called the boys together to let them know about the changes.  When we were all together, I began to speak. 

“I was planning on taking you out on the four-wheelers this morning, but our visitors kind of messed that up.  I’ve decided to take you out after lunch instead, so I want you to change before you come down to eat and then we can leave right after you finish your meals.” 

“You mean right after you finish, cuz you take longer than us,” Glen teased. 

“Yes, I suppose you’re right, and tomorrow morning I’ll be getting you up early so we can drive into the city so Jamie can get his cheek swabbed.” 

“And then these guys will all be able to meet Paul too,” Dakota stated. 

“Yes, I suppose they will.” 

“Who’s Paul?” Laine asked. 

“He’s Dad’s policeman friend.  He’s the guy that called Dad and talked him into bringing me here after I got picked up by the mall cop.”

“He sounds like a nice guy, so I want to meet him,” Glen responded. 

“Yeah, me too,” Laine chimed in.  “If he got you to bring Kota here and then Kota told you about us, then we need to thank him too.  If he hadn’t done that, we’d still be livin’ on the street and havin’ sex with other guys just so we could eat.”  

“Then you’ll all get a chance to meet him tomorrow.  Just so you know, I’ll only be taking Jamie into the police station to get his cheek swabbed, but that shouldn’t take very long, and then I’ll invite Paul to join us for the afternoon.  I’m sure he’ll be able to suggest something we can do and that’s when I’ll introduce him to each of you.” 

“Ok, that sounds good,” they all agreed.

Now that they knew what was going on, the boys took off again and I threw a load of towels into the washing machine before I went out to see what I was going to prepare for lunch.  When I finally decided what to fix, I quickly threw it together and called the boys down to eat.  They were all wearing a pair of Dockers and a long-sleeve tee shirt, and after we finished eating I went up to change as well.  When I came downstairs again, we headed out to the garage to get started. 

I took the ATVs outside while the boys were putting on their goggles, helmets, and gloves, and then I did the same.  Once we were all ready, we drove over to the gasoline storage tank to fill up, and then I led them across the slope of the front yard and toward the field that lay beyond.  The field was overgrown with many different kinds of weeds, so we blazed a trail through it and left our tire tracks behind as we passed over the ground.  I was heading toward a gap that had been cut in the tree line dividing this field from the next one, and when we reached there I slowed down.  I did this so the boys didn’t accidentally crash into one of the trees on either side of the narrow opening as we crossed into the next overgrown field. 

As we made our way through the next assortment of weeds, I aimed for the opening in the next tree line, which was located a little higher up on the slope.  I angled my ATV across the hill and led the boys in that direction, and when we passed through that gap in the tree line, we made our way across the final field as well.  I had the boys stop when we reached the next tree line so we could change drivers before heading back. 

As soon as the boys had switched places, we carefully made a U-turn and then we headed toward the top of the hill.  When we reached the trail at the top, we used it to go around the tree line, and then we angled across the next field as we head toward the opposite end of the next tree line.  When we got there, I led them out onto the road and we followed it until we reached the driveway, and then we followed it back to the garage.  When we came to a stop, the boys started asking questions. 

“You told us before that each of those fields that we crossed used to be a farm, so why didn’t we see any houses or barns?” Laine wanted to know. 

“They’ve all been torn down.  The buildings on one of the farms were demolished before I bought the land, but I had to hire guys to tear down the buildings on the other two farms, as well as on the property where I had my house built.” 

“Can we see where any of those buildings were?” Glen asked next. 

“I’m afraid not.  I had the area bulldozed and leveled off on this lot so I could build my house, and the dirt was used to cover up where the barn once stood.  The old farm house would have been where the pond is now, and the barn was about halfway between there and where my house is now.” 

“As far as the other farms are concerned, if you’d been here shortly after they were first taken down you would have be able to recognize where they once stood, but those places have become overgrown since then.  You might be able to locate the ruts that remain from the trails the tractors used to follow, but I purposefully avoided those areas today, because hitting them can be dangerous.  If you don’t know where they are and drive into one accidentally it can either throw you off your seat or cause you to lose your grip on the handlebars and crash.” 

“Ahhh, I don’t want that to happen,” Glen mumbled after hearing my answer. 

“So what did they use the fields for?” Jamie followed. 

“Part of the fields would have been fenced in for the animals and it would have been where they grazed.  The owners would have hayed the rest of the land and stored the hay in the barn to feed the animals during the winter.  I suppose they probably would have had a garden for the family as well, so with what they grew in the garden and the animals they raised or hunted, they would have been able to keep their families fed.” 

“Man, I’m glad I didn’t live back then,” Dakota stated.  “That must have been hard and boring.” 

“Yes, it would have been much different than what you boys are used to today.”

I then asked them to put their gear on the workbench while I arranged the ATVs in the garage, and then I had them take off their clothes before going inside.  They weren’t covered in dust like when we rode on the trails, but their clothes were covered in pollen, burrs, and other pieces of the plant life that we’d broken off while traveling across the fields.  After they shook their clothes off outside, I asked them to shower as well, because we’d all been sweating while out in the hot July sun and were more than a little ripe. 

Dakota and Jamie asked if they could shower with me and I didn’t have a problem with that.  Besides, I felt Jamie might still need me to be there for him, while Dakota was just a clingy boyfriend who always wanted to be with me, but I didn’t mind.  I was glad to do this for both of them. 

After we’d finished washing each other, the boys wanted to play games on the computer, so I headed downstairs and left them to entertain each other.  I used the time to do put the clothes they had just taken off in the washing machine, and I was just about to go out and start fixing dinner when Jamie came down to ask me a question. 

“Can you take us swimming in the pond?  You said you was gonna teach me how to swim, and we can eat after that, so will you do that with us?” 

“Do you know if the other boys want to go swimming?” I responded. 

“Yeah,” the others agreed from the top of the stairs.  I hadn’t noticed them there previously.

“Ok, then let’s change into our swimsuits and we’ll head down to the pond.  Jamie, I’m going to watch Dakota and see if I can give him a few pointers first, before I start working with you, so I want you to wait on the dock until I tell you I’m ready to work with you.” 

“K.” 

“Then why don’t all of you go change and I’ll meet you back here.  Oh, and grab the towels you used earlier so we don’t have to use more towels.”

“But they’re all wet,” Glen whined. 

“Just hang them on the railing on the porch and they’ll be dry by the time we finish.  It’s hot out there today so they’ll dry quickly.” 

“Oh, ok.”

I went to change too, but I knew they’d do it faster than me, so it’s why I told them I’d meet them downstairs.  As soon as he’d changed, Dakota came over to wait for me and we each grabbed the towels we’d used earlier before walking downstairs together.  The other boys followed us out the front door and we hung our towels on the railing before walking down the lawn to reach the pond.  The walk alone would have been plenty of exercise on a normal day, especially in this heat, so the swim was a bonus.  After we got to the pond, I ran down the dock and dove into the water, and then Laine, Glen, and Dakota did the same. 

Dakota was a little less exuberant when doing this than the other two because he wasn’t as confident a swimmer, so I watched him for a while and offered him a few tips.  He caught on fairly quickly, so I only watched him for a couple of minutes more, and then I treaded water in front of the dock as I encouraged Jamie to join us. 

“Just jump off the dock like you’re jumping off the third step on the staircase,” I suggested.  “I want you to do it feet first, not head first.” 

“But I can’t swim.” 

“I know, and I’ll be here to catch you, and then I’ll teach you what to do.  Just hold your breath, because you’ll probably go below the waterline at first.  Ok?” 

“I’ll try cuz I know you won’t let nothin’ happen to me.” 

“Good, so do it whenever you’re ready.”

He hesitated briefly and then he squatted down a little so he could spring off the dock.  As soon as he hit the water, I reached out to grab him and kept him afloat.  Once his head was completely out of the water, he spluttered momentarily before he looked at me and smiled. 

“I did it,” he stated triumphantly. 

“Yes, you did.  Now I’ll teach you how to swim.” 

First, I explained what I wanted him to do, and then I placed my arms under his chest while he practiced.  We did this for a few minutes and Jamie was making good progress, so eventually I moved my arms farther below him so they were no longer touching his chest. 

“Hey, you’re not holding me any more,” he gasped. 

“My arms are still there if you need help, but I wanted to see how you were doing on your own.” 

That seemed to be enough reassurance for him and he continued swimming.  He didn’t notice when I withdrew my arms completely and placed them at my side, and when he finally realized it he panicked and began to flounder.  I quickly grabbed ahold of him until he was back under control. 

“Why did you do that?” he demanded. 

“I did it because you didn’t need my help any longer.  You were doing great on your own until you started to panic.” 

“Really?” 

“Yes, and I want you to do that again.  Don’t worry this time, because I’ll be right here if you need help.” 

After I got him started again, I eventually pulled my arms away, but this time Jamie continued to swim on his own.  After a couple of minutes, I went over to support him so we could chat. 

“You’re doing great, so how do you feel?” 

“I’m a little tired, but I’m glad I can swim now.” 

“You’re definitely learning, so I’ll let you go again, but I’ll stay here with you the entire time.”

I stayed in the water with the boys for another thirty minutes, but that was all the time I thought we could spare.  I announced to the boys that it was time to get out and suggested they use one of the ladders that were located on either side of the dock to climb out of the water.  I explained that if they attempted to get out of the pond by swimming over until it was shallow enough to walk out it might prove to be more difficult than they thought.  The area beneath the waterline is muddy and can be difficult to move in, and I was worried one of their feet could sink further into the mud and cause them to get stuck.  Using either of the ladders was much easier and safer. 

Once we were all out of the water, we walked back to the house.  Even though much of the water had dripped off of our bodies before we got there, we dried off the rest with the towels that we’d left on the porch before entering.  After we went inside, we changed quickly and then I headed to the kitchen to fix dinner, because I knew we had all worked up a healthy appetite after the long ride, the walk, and the swim we’d just enjoyed.

When I finished preparing dinner, I called the boys down to the table, and while we were eating I told them what we would do next.  “As soon as you’re done eating, I want you to go to the utility room and get the three plastic buckets, the bottle of Spic and Span liquid, and some cleaning rags that are stored there.  Put a capful of the Spic and Span into each bucket and fill it with warm water, and then bring the buckets and rags out in front of the garage.  I’ll pull the ATVs out of the garage and hook up the hose so we can wash them, since they are very dirty from our many rides.”

“Yeah, they could use a good cleanin’,” Glen agreed. 

As soon as we finished our meal and the boys did as I asked, I showed them how to clean the ATVs properly.  I used the hose to rinse them off as well, and then we used more rags to wipe the ATVs down before I put them back in the garage.  That’s when I discovered another problem. 

“I think you boys are going to have to take another shower, because while cleaning the ATVs you got dirty again.” 

“Yeah, the water we used turned the dirt in front of the garage into mud and our legs are covered in it,” Laine confirmed. 

“Yeah, and some of the dirt that was on the ATVs got on us too,” Dakota added. 

“Just take your athletic shoes and socks off before going inside and leave them in the garage to dry.  We can clean those off tomorrow.” 

“Me and Glen want to shower with you, cuz you still owe us,” Laine mentioned next.  “We haven’t had a chance to do that since the last time.” 

“Ok, then I’ll shower with you two,” I confirmed.  “Dakota and Jamie, are you going to shower together or alone?” 

“We’ll shower together,” Jamie answered and Dakota nodded.

I could tell Dakota knew why Laine and Glen wanted to shower with me, but he was showing restraint and didn’t look upset this time, as he promised.  I went with the other pair to my bathroom, while Jamie and Dakota used one of the other bathrooms.  When I was adjusting the water, Laine stated what they wanted. 

“This time you can fuck me while I fuck Glen, and I’ll jerk him off at the same time, just like he did with me.” 

“Ok, I’m fine with that, but I’m going to need a little help to get ready.” 

“Yeah, we know and I’ll take care of that.”

Laine then sucked on my penis to get me hard, while Glen was doing the same thing for him.  Once we both had erections, we used the conditioner as lube again, and then I waited until Laine had entered Glen before I penetrated him, and then we worked into a nice rhythm.

“Jamie sucked you off?” I asked, because his statement surprised me.  I knew Jamie didn’t like doing that as much as the other boys did. 

“Yeah, it was his idea.” 

“Hmmm, maybe he’s finally starting to figure out if he’s gay.” 

“I think he’s like Laine but is just startin’ to realize he doesn’t mind doing stuff with us.  He just doesn’t like doin’ it with others, like the men that used to pay him to do stuff.” 

“I see.” 

We then cuddled in bed and fell asleep.
