Chapter 59 – Groundskeeping.

When the boys woke up on Sunday, I fed them breakfast first and then I told them to get their homework done if they wanted to do something after lunch.  They heeded my warning and brought their books down to the table to work on their assignments, except for Glen who stayed up in his room. 

As each one finished, I looked over what he’d done and asked if that was all of his homework and he assured me it was.  This way if one of the teachers complained later that one of the boys had missed an assignment, I’d be able to hold that boy accountable and point out that he’d assured me that he’d showed me all of it.  Reece seemed to get a kick out of the fact that I was checking over his work and asking him questions about it as well, and he did it just like the others.  He also affirmed it was everything he was supposed to do, so I could also hold him accountable. 

Glen was the last to show up so I could check over his work, and it appeared he was having trouble with his science homework.  He’d done the reading but obviously didn’t understand it, because he’d made more than a few mistakes when answering the questions at the end of the chapter.  When I saw this, I sat down and had him read the assignment to me, and then I discussed it with him before I told him to answer the questions again.  As soon as he started work on that, Reece came over and asked me a question. 

“Will you do that with me too, if I have trouble with somethin’?” 

“Of course I will.  I told you I was going to treat you the same as the other boys.” 

He grinned before he responded.  “Good, cuz sometimes I have trouble understandin’ stuff.” 

Once the boys finished, they surprised me and went in to watch TV next, possibly in response to Jamie’s suggestion.  They did it until lunchtime and only came out after I called them to the table. 

“Damn, you fix good meals,” Reece stated after taking a few bites.  “I don’t eat this good when I’m at home.”

“That’s probably because you take off and don’t stay at home,” I challenged. 

“Yeah, I know, but it’s easier than puttin’ up with my dad.”

“Why?  What does he do?” Dakota asked. 

“Usually he just screams at me or we argue about stuff.” 

“Like what?” Dakota pressed. 

“Sometimes he says that I didn’t do somethin’ I was s’posed to do when I did it, or that I did somethin’ I wasn’t s’posed to when I didn’t do it.  Sometimes he gets really mad and hits me.”

“Damn, even my stupid step-dad didn’t do that.” 

“My dad did it once in a while,” Glen added, “but not very often.”

“Well it won’t happen here,” I assured them. 

“What are we gonna do next?” Jamie asked as we were finishing our meal. 

“I was hoping you boys could give me some ideas about things I can purchase for us to use in the future.  It’s clear that we’re going to need some games or other items we can do together whenever your friends are here, and I don’t mean video games either.  I’m talking about board games and other types of activities that we can do as a group.” 

“But we don’t know ‘bout any of that stuff,” Glen countered. 

“I’ll go get my laptop and we’ll check out a few things online, and then I’ll explain them to you if you want to know more about what they’re like.  Once we’ve gone over each of those items, I’ll let you tell me which ones to get.”

“K, I guess we can do that, as long as you explain things first,” Glen concurred.

“Will those type of games work for all of us, even for how many there are gonna be here for the Halloween party?” Dakota followed. 

“We can see how many players each game recommends, and if it won’t handle that many people then I’ll just order two of that game.  Then we can split into two groups to play and possibly even have the winners play against each other.”

“Yeah, that works, so let’s see what types of games you’re talkin’ about,” Dakota continued. 

I got my laptop and we sat down to look at the various options, and I went over each one and explained what the game involved.  As soon as we reached an agreement on which games they wanted, I placed an order with an expedited delivery date so they would arrive before Friday, and that way we could try them out in advance. 

The boys all walked away while I was placing the order, and that gave me a chance to add a few more items.  I included the portable basketball hoop I’d looked at the previous weekend, along with two basketballs and a few other things, which included a couple of lawn games.  I didn’t do this while the boys were with me, because I wanted those items to be a surprise.  After that had been taken care of, I put the laptop away, and when I returned the boys wanted to know what we were going to do next. 

“Actually, I need to mow the lawn one last time before winter.  While we were out riding earlier, I noticed the grass was longer than I liked, so I want to take care of that problem while I can.” 

“Can I mow the lawn this time?” Glen quickly asked. 

“Yes, I promised you could do it the next time it needed to be done, so I hope you remember everything I taught you.” 

“Yeah, I do.” 

“Well I’ll find out soon enough, because I’m going to quiz you before I let you do this.” 

“K, you’ll see.” 

“Do you guys have a ridin’ lawn mower or somethin’?” Reece followed. 

“It’s better than a ridin’ lawn mower,” Glen replied.  “Dad has a tractor.” 

“You mean like the ones they use on farms?” Reece gasped. 

“Not exactly,” I corrected.  “This is a small tractor that I use to do a variety of tasks around this place, since it has several attachments, including a mower deck.” 

“Can I watch when Glen uses it?” 

“Sure, and I believe Dakota will want to go out and watch as well, because he’s indicated that he wants to try mowing the lawn next spring.” 

“Yeah, I do,” Dakota confirmed. 

“Jamie, do you want to go out with us as well?” I asked.

“Nah, I’ll just watch TV while you’re doin’ that.” 

“Ok, that’s fine with me.” 

Once we went out the backdoor, I led the boys over to the shed and unlocked it.  I checked the oil level on the tractor first, and when that was taken care of, I filled it with diesel fuel before I backed it out of the shed.  Once I brought it to a stop, I turned off the ignition and climbed down, and then I began asking Glen questions about what he had to do to start the tractor.  I followed that up with asking him about the use of the various pedals and how to use the gears, and he passed it with flying colors. 

“I’m impressed,” I told him.  “I wasn’t sure if you were paying attention the last time.”

“I was, and I had Laine quiz me about it while we was at Disney World too,” Glen confessed. 

“Then I’m doubly impressed.” 

“You guys went to Disney World?” Reece gasped in amazement. 

“Yeah, Dad took us there before school started,” Dakota answered. 

“Damn, I wish I could do somethin’ like that.” Reece stated, mainly to himself. 

“You never know.  It may still happen,” I offered. 

“Not with my dad,” he scoffed. 

“I hate to end this discussion, but Glen has work to do and needs to get started.  I want you boys to stay out of the way because he’s new to this, and Glen I want you to go slowly until I tell you otherwise.” 

“K.” 

He started out a little faster than I wanted, so I made him slow down, and then I walked beside him until I felt he was ready to go on his own. 

“Keep going, but just at that speed,” I said as I walked away. 

He looked as proud as a peacock, now that I was leaving him on his own, and I merely watched from a distance.  He did it exactly as he had seen Laine doing it and when I did it the time before, and I was chatting with Dakota and Reece while I kept an eye on him.

“When do you think I’ll be able to do that?” Dakota asked. 

“Not until next spring, because the grass won’t need to be cut again until then.”

“Man, I don’t want to wait that long.” 

“I’m sorry, but the grass doesn’t grow much during the fall and winter.”

“Would you let me do it too, if I’m still comin’ here next summer?” Reece asked. 

“I don’t see why not, as long as you learn everything about how to do it first.  You’ll also need to pass the quiz I give you on it, just like you saw me do with Glen.” 

“K, and thanks.” 

When Glen finished mowing all of the areas he was allowed to do, I took over and mowed around the house, the shed, and the pond.  When I finished, the boys and I went inside while I waited for the tractor cool down before I put it back in the shed. 

Dakota and Reece decided to go upstairs and play video games, while Glen went in to watch TV with Jamie.  While they were doing those things, I did some laundry before going out to begin preparing dinner.  When it was ready, I called the boys out to eat, and after we’d all filled our plates, Glen asked a question. 

“What are we going to do after we eat?” 

“It’s entirely up to you.  I’ll be doing more laundry after I put the tractor away, so you boys will have to decide what you want to do.” 

“I’m gonna watch TV,” Jamie quickly offered. 

“You always watch TV,” I teased. 

“I know, but I like doin’ it and I like it even better when you watch it with me, cuz then I can sit on your lap.” 

“I’ll watch TV with you,” Reece concurred while looking at me.  “Are you gonna do it too?”

“When I finish my other chores,” I replied. 

“Then can I sit next to you guys?” 

“Sure, that’s fine with me.” 

“Yeah, I’ll sit with you guys too,” Dakota followed. 

“I was gonna do that,” Glen stated, “but now there won’t be any room for me to sit with the rest of you guys.” 

“You can sit on the floor, like Laine used to do,” Jamie suggested. 

“Not with you sittin’ on Dad’s lap.” 

“We’ll spread our legs really wide so you can sit between them, if you want,” Jamie offered.

“Ok, I’ll do that then.” 

“Who’s Laine, cuz Glen mentioned this Laine guy went to Disney World with you too?” Reece asked next. 

“He’s a friend who stayed with us last summer, but he doesn’t live around here,” Dakota answered.

“Oh, ok,” Reece responded.

When we finished eating, we cleared off the table, took care of the dishes, and then I went to take care of the laundry and put the tractor away before joining the boys in the family room.  I thought Dakota and Reece might want to sit next to each other, but they sat on either side of me instead, and then Jamie sat on my lap.  We spread our legs apart to give Glen enough room to sit between them and lean against the sofa, and he turned and grinned at me before he focused on the screen. 

Once the program started, I noticed that Reece was leaning against me.  He was able to do it because he was sitting on the opposite side of where Jamie was resting his head on my shoulder.  I wondered if this merely happened by chance or if he’d been watching Jamie and noticed that he always did the same thing whenever he sat with me.  I’ll probably never know for sure which it was, but I wondered if possibly Reece was fixated on me.  It could be that he was thinking of me as a surrogate father, or possibly he might have even had a crush on me.  I just hoped it didn’t create a problem with Dakota.

We actually watched a couple of shows like this before I told the boys it was time to shower and get ready for bed, because they had school in the morning.  No one argued with me, and as they were getting up Dakota asked a question. 

“Can we use your shower again?” 

“Yes, because I need to take care of the laundry and close up down here before I go upstairs.  You’ll probably be done by the time I get up there.” 

After they headed upstairs, I went to do those tasks and actually finished up sooner than I expected.  I got up to my room just before they finished their shower, and when they came out Reece seemed eager for me to check him out, and then he waited around for me to undress so he could do the same to me.  After they headed over to Dakota’s room, I went into the master bath and hadn’t even finished adjusting the water yet when the bathroom door opened.  When I turned to see who was there, I discovered it was Jamie. 

“Can I shower and sleep with you?” 

“Yes, I suppose so.” 

“Ummm, will you suck my cock too?” 

“I suppose I can do that as well, since Brady isn’t here and I expect Reece will be staying in Dakota’s bedroom until morning.” 

“Good.”

We then stepped into the shower and washed each other, and I cleaned him really well since I assumed he’d also want me to rim him.  After we dried off and walked into the bedroom, I noticed he must have shut the bedroom door on the way in, so he obviously expected he would be getting his way.  He merely walked over to the bed, jumped onto the mattress, and laid back as he waited for me to begin. 

As I leaned forward, he lifted his legs and drew them back to his chest without even bothering to ask if I’d rim him first.  Since I knew what he was expecting, I obliged him and attacked his butt with my tongue. 

“I knew you was gonna do this, cuz you washed my butt hole really good.” 

“That’s because I suspected you were going to ask me to do it.” 

He cooed, sighed, and giggled as I attacked his butt, so I asked him what was so funny.  “It just tickles this time.  Have you got whiskers or somethin’?” 

“Yes, I didn’t shave this morning.” 

“Then that must be what tickled.” 

Now that I had my answer, I went back to work on his butt, and then I moved up to work on his scrotum next, before I eventually attacked his penis.  As I bobbed up and down on it, I manipulated his scrotum with my hand and then I inserted a finger into his butt.  I’d slipped the finger into my mouth first to get it wet, and Jamie wiggled excitedly when I stuck it in him. 

“Ooh, that feels good too,” he hissed. 

I didn’t respond, since I was working on his penis, but I attempted to find his prostate so I could stimulate it with my finger.  When I found it and began to stroke it, he began bucking up and down and continued doing it until he fired his load into my throat.  I didn’t pull my finger out right away when that happened, so he squirmed around on my finger in an attempt to get me to stimulate his prostate again.  I obliged him and more semen oozed out of his now wilting erection, and then I let it fall from my lips as I slowly withdrew my finger from his backside. 

“Dang, what did you do in my butt?” 

“I was just stroking your prostate.  Did you like it, because Dakota enjoys it when I pay attention to that area?” 

“Yeah, it was awesome and made me see stars.”  

“I’m glad you enjoyed it.”

Now that he’d gotten off, he gave me a peck on the lips and a hug before we cuddled together and fell asleep. 

The next morning, I woke each of the boys before I went down to fix breakfast, and while we were eating I spoke to Reece. 

“Once you get ready for school, I want you to pack up all of your clothes and other things to take back with you.” 

“If I’m gonna be here every weekend, can’t I leave some of my stuff here?” 

“Won’t your mom know they’re missing?” 

“Maybe, but since she said I could come here every weekend I’ll just tell her I’m leavin’ some of my stuff at your house so I don’t have to carry so much back and forth all the time.” 

“Ok, that works for me if it’s ok with her, and if the clothes you’re leaving here are dirty just bring them down and put them in the laundry room before we leave.” 

“K, I can do that.”

I drove the boys to the middle school and dropped them off, and then I headed over to the elementary school next, because that’s where I would be spending the day. 

After classes let out for the day, I drove back to the middle school to pick up the boys, and when we got to the house we all noticed something as we were coming up the driveway. 

“Hey, there’s a bunch of guys up there,” Dakota said as we got closer to the house. 

“Yeah, and isn’t that the guy you were talkin’ to the other day?” Glen asked. 

“And what’s all that stuff they’re pilin’ up beside the house?” Jamie followed. 

“Yes, that’s the same guy who was here the other day, and let me go speak with him while you boys are taking your things inside.  I’ll explain everything when I join you in a few minutes.” 

“Can’t we go see what they’re doin’?” Glen asked. 

“Not yet.  I don’t want you to get in their way, and I also want to make sure they haven’t done anything that you could mess up or get hurt on.” 

They weren’t exactly happy with my answer, but they did as I asked, and then I went to speak with the guy I’d called so I could see how they were doing.  He explained what they’d done so far, how long this job was going to take, and what I could expect when they finished.  As soon as we’d covered all of the bases, I went inside so I could explain all of this to the boys.  They were waiting for me in the great room when I walked into the house. 

“Let’s go to the family room and I’ll tell you everything.” 

I had them sit on the sofa while I sat in one of the chairs, and then I began to speak.  “I decided to have this done because I was feeling badly that I’d never had the construction crew leave any flat areas when I had the house built, so I’m trying to make up for it now.  I wasn’t expecting to have children back then, so it never occurred to me that I should do this, but now I’m trying to provide a place where you boys can do things with your friends.” 

“So what are they doin’?” Glen wanted to know. 

“I asked this guy I’ve dealt with before to build a wall starting a short distance from the house and then extend it to just before where the tree line that separates the yard from the next field.” 

“Why?  What’s that gonna do?” Dakota pressed. 

“I was just getting to that, if you’ll be patient,” I replied, causing him to blush.  “Once the wall is built, they’re going to fill in behind it with dirt and level it off with the area that extends from the shed and goes in that direction, because it’s fairly level as well.  Once this new area is filled in with dirt, they’ll roll it to smooth it out, and then I’m going to have top soil placed over that so I can plant grass.  It should give you an area that is both long and wide enough so you can play soccer or touch football with your friends.  However, it probably won’t be ready for you to use until next spring or early summer.” 

“Why’s it gonna take so long?” Jamie asked.  

“It’s because the dirt will have to settle first and then we’ll need to fill in the potholes and roll it again before I can add the top soil and plant the grass.  Once the grass has grown enough so I can mow it the first time, then you’ll be able to play on it.” 

“That will be neat and it will give us somethin’ else to do,” Dakota stated. 

“Yes, that’s exactly why I’m doing this.” 

“So those blocks that they’re stacking up on that side of the house are for the wall?” Jamie asked. 

“Yes, they’re decorative blocks that won’t detract from the house and will actually complement it.” 

“What are they gonna do, tell the house that it looks nice?” Glen said with a chuckle. 

“Not compliment spelled with an ‘i’, which means to praise or flatter.  This complement is spelled with an ‘e’ and means to complete or bring to perfection.” 

“Ahhh, that’s like complementary colors in art,” Dakota added as a light bulb turned on in his brain. 

“Precisely.”

“But how are we gonna bring the tractor down from the shed to mow the yard?” Glen pressed. 

“I told them to leave a wide enough area between the house and the wall so we can do that.” 

“Oh, ok.  I was wonderin’ about that.”

“So how long and wide is it gonna be?” Dakota wanted to know.

“I’m not exactly sure, but it should be approximately twenty-five yards (23 m) wide and 50 yards (46 m) long.  That should be good enough to play soccer or touch football with your friends.” 

“Yeah, that will be good,” Glen and Dakota agreed. 

“But I don’t know how big that is,” Jamie complained.

“Think of the football field,” Glen suggested.  “From the goal line to the twenty-five-yard line is how wide it will be, and the goal line to midfield is how long it will be.” 

“Ok, I kinda understand now, but I’ll have to look at the football field when we go to the game next time.”

“That’s a very good idea,” I concurred, “because this area will be about half as wide and half as long as the football field.  And since this crew will be working out there all week, I’d prefer that you don’t go out and get in their way.  I also don’t want you messing with anything.” 

“K, we won’t,” they all agreed. 

Now that this had been taken care of, I told the boys to get started on their homework while I worked on dinner.  They left to work on it while I went out to start the next load of laundry before I made my way to the kitchen.  As I was working on our meal, I suddenly thought of something.  Jamie hadn’t said anything more about Aaron spending the weekend after this one with us, and I certainly wasn’t about to mention it to him, because I wanted him to remain calm for as long as possible. 

The rest of the night was fairly uneventful, and this time the boys all showered alone before getting into bed.  Dakota wasn’t happy about this, but I had other things to do, including making some calculations on the project that I’d talked to the boys about earlier.  The crew was merely building the wall, adding the fill, and rolling it to smooth it out, but I was planning to add at least six inches (15 cm) of top soil to it once I was certain the fill had settled.  If it settled too much then I’d have to use more dirt to fill in the holes and roll it again, and then I could add the top soil and plant the grass.  I just had to calculate how much top soil I would need to do this. 

Of course, the top soil would be brought in by the truckload and dumped in the yard, and then I’d use the bucket loader on the tractor to move it where it was needed.  Once I had an idea about how much top soil it was going to take, I’d be able to order it, and when that was taken care of, I went upstairs and showered quickly before getting into bed with Dakota.  I felt good about everything before I fell asleep, because it was one more item I could cross off of my ‘to do’ list.
