The President's Son

Chapter 32

"Evelyn, can you take Pete home or would you like me to get a uniformed officer to do that?"

"I'll take him home. I have some work to do back at headquarters before an afternoon meeting."

After Pete and Evelyn left, I looked at Ed. "What do you think about Pete joining your team?"

I could see Ed mulling over my question. "Pete proved again that he's a good agent and knows how to think. What I worry about is his mood swings."

"I think if he's assigned to a senior agent that might be better for him. He's an excellent investigator so that would give us another asset. I also want him to undergo a full psychological examination because of his mood swings. Maybe this will uncover what's going on with him."

Pete looked at me. "I agree totally Ace. Now do you see why I say you're the better choice for Agent in Charge?"

I shook my head. "As long as you are here, that is not going to happen, buddy. When Ben is in town, it gives me the flexibility to work on cases and to leave the grounds if needed because Johnny works well with Bennie."

"Now that this case seems to be coming to a conclusion, can Chris get settled?" Ed asked.

"I'll have to call Cal Matthews and see when he can meet with us. He'd worked us in yesterday but you know what happened here."

"Yeah I do. Do you know if his parents had wills?"

"I don't know and with their house totaled, I don't know if they could ever be found."

"I think you better call Cal and talk with Chris."

I called Cal and he had a slot open after lunch then I talked with Chris. He didn't think either of his parents had wills so that was all we could go on. After lunch, Ben stayed with Bennie while Chris and I went to meet with Cal. Chris had a few forms to fill out then we were led back to Cal's office. "Hi Ace, this must be Chris."

Chris shook his hand. "Thank you for handling this for me."

I handed Cal the death certificates then he looked at Chris. "Son, do you know where they did their banking?"

He nodded his head, "Yes Sir, they used Bank of America."

"Excellent, this firm does too and this should make getting the information we need much easier. I'll contact the branch manager of the one we use and set up a meeting. He'll be able to access the information on your parents account."

"That seems easy enough." Chris said.

Cal pulled out a piece of paper and slid it towards Chris. "I need you to sign this; it's a Power of Attorney. It allows me to sign things on your behalf."

I looked at my watch. "The branch is right across the street. Do you think we can walk over there?"

"Sure, my afternoon is free."

We went to the bank and I saw a Capital PD officer at the door. He looked at me. "Sir, are you carrying a weapon?"

I stood still. "Look in my outside breast jacket pocket."

He reached in and removed my credentials, "My apologies Agent Mason."

"Not a problem officer, you're doing your job."

Cal asked to speak with the manager then we were led back to his office and shook the man's hand. "Hi Cal, what can I do for you?"

"John, this is my client Chris Teele. His parents were killed a couple of days ago and Chris told me they did their banking here."

"Young man, do you have some identification and Cal, do you have their death certificates?"

Chris handed the man his driver's license while Cal put the death certificates on his desk. "Is there anything else you need?"

He started typing on his keyboard. "Cal, I don't see why you're here."

"What do you mean John?" Cal asked.

"It seems Chris here is on their accounts."

"What?" Chris asked surprised. "They never told me anything about it."

"When you were younger, do you remember signing a card?"

Chris thought for a moment. "I remember signing a card a long time ago. My Mom told me they were setting up a savings account for me."

"Well Chris, you have access to all of their accounts."

"John, what else do they have here?"

"They also have a safe deposit box."

"John, I'm sure the keys were destroyed, does the bank have another key?"

He nodded his head. "Yes we do and considering the situation, we'll waive the replacement fee. If you will give me a minute, I'll get the key and you can see what is in it."

John was gone several minutes then when he returned he motioned for us to follow him. He pulled a notebook out and had Chris sign it as the new owner. Once the box was out, John took us to a private room then closed the door. The three of us stood there then Chris looked at Cal. "Can you open it?"

Cal opened the box and removed the contents. He looked through the papers then patted Chris on the back. "Son, your parents were prepared. In here are life insurance policies, information on the house and who has the mortgage and most importantly, wills."

Cal was looking at the wills then smiled. "Each of your parents named their spouse as the first beneficiary and you as the second. Since they died at the same time, you inherit everything. The life insurance policies are each worth $250,000.00."

Cal then looked at the mortgage papers. "From what I'm seeing here, it seems the mortgage was paid off. What that means is the house is free and clear. I see a homeowners' policy here so I'm going to have to contact them to make sure it hasn't lapsed."

"What does all this mean?" Chris asked.

"It means financially, you have nothing to worry about. There is $500,000 in life insurance plus whatever the homeowner's policy is worth."

When Chris heard that, reality hit and he broke down. I wrapped my arms around him and held him. Once he got his emotions under control he looked at me. "Ace, I don't know what to do."

Cal stepped over and rubbed his back. "Son, I know this is all a shock to you. If you'd like, I can make those arrangements for you on your behalf."

"Would you please?" Chris asked looking totally lost.

I lifted Chris's chin. "Son, would you know if they wanted to be buried or cremated? I know this sounds gross but there are people who do want to be cremated over being buried."

"I heard them talking once when I was younger about being cremated but I don't know if that's what they still wanted. I just don't know what to do."

"Chris, I've handled this before for clients so I have some experience." Cal started. "I'll make a few calls then I'll call you. I'll need to take these papers so I can get things going for you."

Cal found John so he could put the box back then we returned to his office. I had a question for John. "Sir, Chris will be going to Seattle."

John smiled. "Not to worry, there are many branches out there so Chris has nothing to worry about."

"John, can we get an ATM card for Chris so he has access to some money?"

John started typing again. "I'll get that for him right now. Chris, can you give me four numbers that you can remember but can't be traced to you? What I mean is don't use any part of your birthday or other such numbers because they could be traced back to you and then your account hacked; should you lose your card."

Chris thought for a moment then gave him four numbers. Once that was done, our business was finished. We all stood then Chris shook John's hand first. "Thank you for all of your help."

John smiled. "I'm glad everything was here, neat and tidy. Once you get settled in Seattle, you can go to a branch close to your home and they can help you transfer your account. Give the manager there my card so he can call me if there are any problems but I don't foresee any. On the way out, I'll have some counter checks made for you. This way you'll be able to get some money if you need it. I'll also have your ATM card expedited. Cal, if you give me Chris's new address, I'll have the card mailed to him there so it won't have to be forwarded later."

I gave John that information then Chris smiled then shook John's hand. "Thanks for everything John. With everything here and what we found in the box, my job is pretty easy."

"I'm glad everything worked out the way it did. Chris, I'm very sorry for your loss. If there is anything I can do to help you, please do not hesitate to call me."

We went back to Cal's office. "I'll get on these phone calls this afternoon and hopefully I should know something by the end of the day."

"I hope things go smoothly Cal, Chris has been through enough." I said as we stood and shook his hand.

On the way home, Chris looked at me. "Ace, what about my school records? Won't I need them so I can get registered in Seattle?"

"That's a good question son." I said as I called Sandy.

I spoke with her for several minutes then we headed to Chris's old high school. We headed for the office and were met by the secretary. Chris showed her his school ID. "I need a copy of my school records."

"We don't give those out." She snapped looking over her glasses.

"Excuse me Ma'am." I said.

"I said we don't give them out. Do you have a problem hearing? Now, I have work to do."

"Just a minute," I said.

She picked up a radio next, "Security to the office.

A minute later, a man in plain clothes came in and grabbed Chris by the arm. "Sir, you better release him right this instant."

He looked at me. "And who the hell are you?"

"Your worst nightmare," I answered showing him my credentials.

He let go of Chris's arm then stepped back. Then the secretary got into it again. "Remove them."

"Miss Barker, do you know who this man is?"

"I don't care who he is," She started. "I have work to do and I don't have time for them."

I looked around and saw the principal's office. "Well then, maybe the principal will."

I started for the door and the woman came out and grabbed me by the arm. "Leave NOW!"

Just then the door opened and a middle aged man appeared. "What is going on out here?"

"I'm sorry Mr. Victor," She started. "I told this person we don't give out school records but they started getting nasty."

"That's not true," Chris said.

"Shut up kid," She barked.

"Miss Barker, what have I told you about being rude to the students here? Return to your duties and I'll deal with you later. Now sir, what seems to be the problem?"

He led us into his office then closed his door. "This young man needs his school records. He's moving to Seattle."

"I see," He started. "Are you this young man's father?"

We took a seat then I showed him my credentials. "No I'm not. Chris's parents were killed..."

"Oh my god," He interrupted. "I heard about an explosion on the news but didn't place the last name. What school will he be attending?"

Just then, I felt my cell vibrate. I looked at it and there was an email from Sandy. I took out my note pad and wrote down the information. "Here is all of the information. I'll be taking Chris out there so his guardian can get him enrolled."

He thought for a moment. "Chris, may I see your student ID card please?"

Chris showed it to him. "Give me a minute.

He picked up the phone and called the school. "Agent Mason, I'll send the school all of his records electronically. It seems Ms. Brinkman has spoken to the principal there and they are aware of Chris's impending transfer. Chris, I'm so very sorry about your parents. Please accept my condolences."

We stood up and Chris shook his hand. "Thank you Mr. Victor. I'm glad I'm not going to have to put up with Miss Barker any more. She's rude to every student here."

"Chris, you have my word that that problem will be dealt with." Mr. Victor said as he folded a paper and put it in an envelope.

He opened the door for us then we stepped out. Mr. Victor handed the envelope to Miss Barker. She opened it and started shouting. "What in the hell is this?"

"Your contract is not being renewed." Mr. Victor said.

"I have tenure," She said walking over to him.

"And I have cause." Mr. Victor shot back.

<SLAP>

"We'll see about that." She said smiling.

I went around the counter and showed her my credentials. "Now you're under arrest for assault."

"WHAT?" She shouted at me then tried to raise her arm.

The security officer grabbed her arm then put his cuffs on her. "If you keep that up I'll be adding another charge Miss Barker."

Mr. Victor looked at us. "Chris, take care of yourself and once again, I'm so sorry for your loss."

Chris shook his hand again. "Thanks for everything Mr. Victor and Miss Barker, you got what you deserved. You've never had a kind word for any of us when we came in here. You treated us as if we were an interruption but without us, there would be no need for you."

We left then headed back to the residence. I had just pulled onto the grounds when my cell rang. "Mason."

"Ace, it's Adam. Can you meet me at the jail?"

"I just got back to the residence Adam. Give me a couple of minutes to get things sorted here then I'll head over."

Chris and I went upstairs then I had to talk with Gloria. "Señor Ace, no snitching now."

"I'd never do that." I replied giving her a kiss on the cheek. "I have to go out and I don't know what time I'll be back."

"Oh Señor Ace, you know I hate having to hold meals."

"I know Gloria but this is very important. What are you fixing tonight?"

"Stuffed pork chops, I can keep them warm for you but I hope they won't dry out."

I smiled at her. "Don't you worry now, I'll eat them."

She kissed me on the cheek then I had to get going. I was just about to step into the elevator when I was met by Bennie, Chris and Tonka. "Ace, where are you going?"

I gave Bennie a kiss as the doors closed. "I have to meet Adam Graham over at the jail."

"Who are you going to see?"

"I'm not sure if it's Nate or Peterson. Now, before you ask, I don't know how long I'll be gone."

Bennie gave me one of his patented looks. "You know Gloria hates you being late for meals."

I wrapped my arms around him as the doors opened. "I know and that's why I talked to her."

We walked outside then I gave each of the boys a kiss on the cheek. "We'll see you when you get back." Bennie said then kissed me back. "I hope you're not going to be sleepy later."

I wiggled my eyebrows and smiled as I got into the Hummer. "I think that can be arranged."

I called Adam to let him know I was on my way then twenty minutes later, I arrived and there was Adam waiting for me. "Hi Ace, sorry to get you out so close to your dinner time but I thought you'd like to be here."

"I'm glad you called, I wouldn't have missed this for anything."

We walked inside and I showed the Deputy Sheriff my credentials. "Agent Mason, you can secure your weapon and extra magazines over there. Lock the door and keep the key with you."

I went over to the lockers and secured my weapon then we were led back to the cells. A deputy pointed to a large holding cell with a metal picnic style table. "Have a seat gentlemen and I'll bring Nate Hill to you."

While we were waiting, my cell rang. I looked and saw it was Sandy. "Hey girl, what's up?"

"Well, I looked at the school's schedule and they're off all of next week."

"Whew, that makes me feel a whole lot better. This will make planning Chris's parent`s funeral easier. The only thing now is Bennie will want to spend more time there but his school goes back into session next week."

"He can't miss school just because he wants to spend time with Rocky and Chris."

I was nodding my head as she spoke. "You're right and Ben wouldn't allow it either. Once I know when we'll be out, I'll call you. One more thing, give Rocky a big hug and kiss from all of us here."

"Thanks Ace and I will. There will be plenty of room for everyone, once you get here."

I ended the call then Nate appeared. "You just had to bring him with you, didn't you?"

Adam wasn't in the mood for his shit. "Shut up Nate."

"Remember counselor, I asked to see you not the other way around so I'd be careful how you talked to me."

"You've always had a big mouth Nate and I see nothing's changed." I fired at him.

"No one rattled your chain faggot."

"For someone facing the death penalty, you're really full of yourself. When are you going to learn I'm the one in control here, not you?"

That got Nate's attention real fast. "The death penalty, have you lost your mind?"

I nodded my head. "You're facing a number of conspiracy charges Nate and since one of them was an attempt on the President's life, you better believe you're getting the needle."

"You're crazy; I had nothing to do with that."

I looked at Adam. "Not from where we're sitting," Adam said. "We have proof that you had contacted your partner on numerous occasions"

"My partner, what partner? Have you forgotten I've been in jail and I haven't had any visitors?"

"I haven't forgotten," I said smiling. "But we do have tapes of you speaking to your..."

"Quit talking in fucking riddles Ace. Who the hell is this supposed partner of mine?"

Once again I looked at Adam. "Harold Peterson." Adam answered.

"WHO?"

"Harold Peterson." I said staring him in the eyes.

"That fucking lunatic," Nate shot back. "He's not my partner; he's a total nut case."

"Well, we have tapes of conversations between you and him plus the one you made yesterday."

"Yeah Okay, I called him. I admit that but as far as conspiring to kill the President, no way."

Adam slammed his hand on the table. "Look, you kidnapped Bennie and made no bones about not wanting a gay friendly President."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, I've made no bones about not liking Jacobs and his gay friendly bullshit but I'd never plan or attempt to assassinate him."

I had Nate where I wanted him. "If that's the case, then you wouldn't mind answering a few questions."

"That all depends." Nate said coyly.

"Depends on what?" Adam asked.

"Depends on what the questions are and what you can do for me."

"Answer the questions then we'll see." Adam fired.

He let out a deep breath, "Fine."

"What's your relationship with Harold Peterson?"

"Relationship, I ain't no fag like you, Mason."

Adam was shaking his head. "He didn't mean it like that. Are you and he related?"

"Yeah, he's my half brother." Nate said softly.

"When did you learn this?" I asked as Adam took a legal pad out of his briefcase.

"When I was assigned to California, he heard me make a comment about Bennie and then we started talking. I was surprised because my mother never said a word to me that my old man knocked up some bitch."

"Who posted your bail?" Adam asked.

"He did," Nate answered. "I don't know how he heard I was arrested but he posted my bond."

"Did he give you the money you had?" I asked.

He nodded his head. "Yeah he did."

I leaned over to Adam. "That's another charge against Peterson."

Adam got serious. "If you knew he was on a crime spree, why didn't you report it?"

"I didn't know," Nate barked.

"Oh come on Nate, you had to know." I said staring at him.

"I didn't." He said again. "Well, not totally although I suspected he had."

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"A comment he made after I heard on the news of the house that was blown up. I called him and asked him if he was crazy. He said he had to clean up loose ends and that there was one more thing he had to do."

"What was that?" Adam asked.

Nate shook his head. "That's all unless I get a deal."

"If you think you're skating you're the one who's crazy Nate." I said.

"If you want me to talk any more you better make it worth my while."

I looked at Adam because he had us by the balls. "Here's the deal," Adam started. "You talk here AND agree to testify against him in court and I'll take the death penalty off the table."

Nate's eyes got big. "That's it?"

I could see Adam thinking. "Well, depending on what you tell us here, I might see about having a charge or two dropped."

"Aw come on." He whined.

"Don't push it Nate. You kidnapped Bennie and tried to kidnap Rocky. You're lucky I didn't just shoot you and be done with it down in Orlando."

"Alright, alright, you win." Nate said relenting.

With what Nate was telling us and the evidence we had, there was no doubt Peterson was going to die. I looked at Adam then over to Nate. "Look, I have to get back to the residence. Adam will come back and take a formal statement from you and if we find out that you've lied to us about anything, the deal is off and the death penalty will be right back on the table. Do you understand me, Nate?"

He was staring at me trying to see if I was bullshitting him or not. "I understand Mason."

Adam hollered for the guard then we headed for the front so I could get my weapon. "Adam, I thought we had all of the pieces to the puzzle before but now we do. I'd always wondered how he got out of jail in California and now I know."

"The same thing goes for his money but didn't you look at Peterson's financials?"

I shook my head. "We only went through Nate's but I'll have Agent Carl dig into Peterson's."

It was almost 7:00 by the time I returned to the residence. As soon as I stepped off the elevator, I was greeted by Tonka. He was wagging his tail and pawing at my leg letting me know he needed to go out. I was about to take him out when Bennie and Chris greeted me. "Where are you off to now?" Bennie asked planting a kiss on me.

"No where baby, your dog has to go out."

He turned red then reached down and scratched Tonka behind the ear. "Sorry boy, I'll take you out now."

The boys took Tonka out while I washed my hands so I could eat dinner. After I ate, the boys wanted to spend some time with me and after the day I'd had, it was the best offer I had. We were in my room and no sooner had I gotten comfortable when I heard a knock on the door. "Come in."

We were under the covers when JR stepped in. "Sorry to disturb you Ace but Dizzy just sent me these files."

He walked over and handed me a folder. I looked at the papers then broke out into a huge smile. "This is what we need to connect Peterson to the .357 beyond a shadow of a doubt."

JR nodded his head. "That it does."

"Thanks for bringing these to me buddy." I said as JR looked at Chris.

"Chris, are you staying down here tonight?" JR asked.

He looked at Bennie then leaned over me and started whispering to Bennie. I couldn't hear what they were saying then Chris sat up. "I'm going to stay down here."

Chris scooted down and got comfortable then Bennie retook his spot. During a commercial, I went to get us something to drink. When I got back, Bennie was holding his Blackberry. "What's wrong baby?"

We got back in bed then he handed it to me. "School's closed next week."

I read the email that was up and sure enough, it was from the school. "I'll call them tomorrow just to be sure but Sandy called and school in Seattle is closed next week too because Easter is late this year."

Bennie smiled. "We'll be able to spend some time with Rocky now."

"We'll talk about that tomorrow baby." I said guzzling some of my drink.

"Why can't we Ace? School will be closed."

"This plan still has to be approved by your dad."

"Yeah, you're right." He said then we finished watching the movie.

I must have dozed off because when I woke up, Chris and Bennie weren't beside me. I took a leak then went to Bennie's room to see if the boys were over there. I quietly opened the door and there they were engaged in a hot 69. "Bennie, get my hole wet."

Bennie readily obliged and started licking it. After several minutes, he inserted a finger and found his love nut. "How's that Chris?"

"Oh god that feels good. Put your dick in me."

"You know I won't do that," Bennie answered then reached around for his plastic toy. "But I'll give you all of this you can handle."

"Oh yeah man, give it to me."

Bennie slid his love toy into Chris's hole then turned it on causing him to start bucking his hips. Bennie held onto his hips then Chris started fucking his mouth. After a couple minutes Bennie had to slow him down. "Easy man, you're gagging me."

Bennie resumed his oral ministrations and I was getting hotter by the second watching this sex show so I quietly closed the door then went back over to my room and jacked off to the visions in my mind. After my huge climax, I fell asleep.

The next morning when I awoke, I had the boys spooned against my crotch and ass. I rolled to face Bennie then I saw his eyes open and he broke out into a smile. "Did you enjoy the show?"

"You're so bad."

"You loved it baby. I could see the bulge in your undies."

"I did have a huge cum thanks to you."

"Why didn't you come in, I'd have taken care of that."

I kissed him passionately. "I guess I'm getting old fashioned love. Our special time I'd like to be just the two of us."

Bennie returned my kiss. "Yeah, I'm getting like that too. I know we had fun with Rocky but now, I want it to be just us."

My bladder was screaming now. "Sit up love, I have to pee."

Bennie got up and joined me then we took a shower together. After Bennie washed me, he checked his job by taking my now cast iron dick into his mouth. "Now it's my turn."

He was playing with my nuts and humming causing feelings he'd never given me before. I tried to make them last as long as possible but when he shoved two fingers into my ass, I blew. "Fuck love, I can't hold it."

I gave him a load he couldn't swallow as I saw some leaking out of the sides of his mouth. When he stood up, I cleaned his face then shared it with him in the form of a very passionate kiss. "How was that lover?" Bennie asked smiling with the devilish grin on his face.

I was still breathing hard. "Damn baby, where'd you learn that."

"I've known about it but Chris did it to me last night so I thought I'd try it out on you."

We stepped out of the shower and started getting dried. "Next time, I'm going to try it out on you."

Bennie smiled then shook his head. "Oh no, next time my dick is going in that hot ass of yours."

I looked down and saw his tool standing tall. I decided to be mean so I reached down and gave it several strokes. "You know I love it when you do that baby."

"You're going to leave me like this?" He asked as I turned for the door.

I leaned down and gave it a lick then smiled. "Hold that thought for tonight."

He slapped me on the bare ass causing me to turn around then he grabbed hold of my dick. "I'll hold onto it alright."

No sooner had Bennie let go of my dick when the door opened and Chris came in sporting his morning wood. "I'm sorry guys but I couldn't hold it."

Chris did his business then left. "Are you going to take a shower?" Bennie asked Chris.

"Yeah, but I need to get some clean underwear."

"Alright," Bennie started. "We're going out to the dining room."

"Not like that I hope." Chris fired back then headed upstairs.

We got dressed then headed to the dining room. I fixed myself a cup of coffee then poured Bennie his morning glass of orange juice. While we were chatting, Ben came in. "Good morning guys," Ben said as he gave Bennie a kiss on the cheek.

"Hey Dad, I got an email last night from Exeter."

Ben fixed his coffee then sat down. "Oh, what was that about?"

"It seems school is closed next week."

He looked at me then over to Bennie. "Well, that would make sense since Friday is Good Friday and we'll be celebrating Passover. Ace, could you call the school to confirm this please? Bennie, it's not that I don't believe you but I'm just wondering why it wasn't put out on the schedule."

I pulled out my cell and called the school. "Hello Terry, it's Agent Mason."

"Well hello there, to what do I owe the honor?"

"I'm calling to confirm the email Bennie received last night."

"Oh yes," Terry replied. "When we made the change to the schedule, we forgot to include the Easter holidays. I've been fielding calls ever since I came in from parents wanting to know if it's true."

"Thank you Terry. Bennie will be there when school reopens."

I ended the call then heard the buzzer go off. I went down and saw Isaac standing there. "Good morning Ace, is the President up?"

"Come in Isaac, he's in the dining room. Is something wrong?"

He showed me a piece of paper. I quickly read it then looked at him. "Are you sure of this?"

"I called Pink News and confirmed it."

"They don't really think they can get away with that, do they?" I asked as we walked into the dining room.

Ben looked up. "Good morning Isaac, would you care for a cup of coffee?"

He set his papers on the table then fixed himself a cup of coffee. He picked up the paper and handed it to Ben. "I'm sorry to disturb you so early but I saw this article. I even called the paper to confirm its accuracy and sure enough it is correct."

Ben saw the headline titled `Tennessee Senate panel approves school gay ban bill.' "Have they lost their minds?"

"It would appear so Sir," Isaac said.

Bennie got up and was looking over Ben's shoulder. "They can't do that Dad, can they?"

Ben shook his head. "Legally, they can try son but since they get federal education funds it goes against public policy."

"What would you like me to do Sir?" Isaac asked.

"Call Kent McWilliams and tell him about the article. He'll know what to do and tell him if he has any problems to call me."

Isaac finished his coffee then picked up his papers and headed for the door; "Right away Sir."

Chris came in as Gloria brought out breakfast. After we ate, Ben went downstairs then I took Tonka out so he could do his business. Bennie and Chris wanted to go swimming so I told them to put sunscreen on them every couple of hours and I would tell Johnny that too and to remind them. This gave me some free time so I got JR to look into Harold's financials. "What are we looking for?"

"I haven't a clue but Nate said it was Peterson who got him the five grand."

JR got into his financial records. "Man, this guy had some bucks."

I sat down and looked at the screen. "He also wasn't too bright. There were a number of transactions both in and out of his account here to what looks like an off shore account."

JR looked and nodded his head. "It is Ace, and it's in the Cayman Islands."

"Can you get into it?" I asked.

"I can try." JR said as he began typing. "Bingo, I'm in."

I saw a strange look on his face as I sat down beside him. "What did you find?"

"This guy has some major bucks, that's for sure."

I looked at the screen. "That's more than someone can save on $52,000 a year." I said.

"If he put 90% of it in the bank, he might." Dusty said as JR continued scrolling down the page.

"He'd have to make his bills on $800 a month."

"That would be tough considering today's economy." JR said. "Hey, look at this. Here's the transfer of $5,000 from this account to his personal account."

"We're going to need legal access into this account so we have the money trail."

"Why, we have enough evidence to prove his guilt now."

I nodded my head. "Yes we do but I want to see the noose put so tight around his neck, it'll be impossible to remove it. Can you print this out for me?"

JR nodded his head then started printing the entire file. "This will take a while so let's go and check on the boys in the meantime."

We headed for the roof and when we got up there, we had a little surprise. "I told them to make sure they put lotion on every couple of hours."

JR was giggling. "It looks like Chris is making sure a part of Bennie doesn't burn."

"It sure does," I replied as I watched Chris putting lotion on Bennie's dick."

All of a sudden, Bennie's eyes closed then his body started to shake. "Man Chris, I don't think my dick will get burnt now."

"I should have done your ass at the same time."

Bennie looked up and saw us standing there. "Hi Ace, we're getting lotion on each other."

I smiled. "So I see. Did you get everything?"

Chris turned around. "Oh yeah Ace and I didn't miss a single spot."

"I noticed that," JR said smiling.

All of a sudden I saw horns pop up on Chris's head. "Would you like me to put some sun screen on you too, JR?"

I had to really fight to keep from laughing. "Go for it, buddy."

His head snapped over. "I think I'll pass if he does it like he did Bennie."

"Don't you think you'd enjoy it?" I asked playing it up for all it was worth.

JR turned several shades of red. "Oh I'm sure I'd enjoy it and that's what I'm afraid of."

Just then, my cell rang and I saw it was Adam. "What's up man?"

"Can you meet me at the Attorney General's office?"

"Sure, what does he want?" I asked.

"He didn't say but he asked for a meeting with the lead agent on the case."

"Where should I meet you?" I asked then covered the mouth piece as JR was looking at me. "I have to meet with the Attorney General. Let's go see if those papers are done printing."

JR and I went back into the residence as I was listening to Adam. "Meet me outside. You know the address, right?"

"Yeah I do. Give me about 20 minutes."

I ended the call and sitting in the printer tray were enough papers to make a small book. "This should give the AG enough to ask for a warrant."

"I agree," I said as I headed for my room to change into a suit and tie. "I'll be back as soon as I can. Feel free to go swimming with the boys if you want to."

I was putting my weapon on just as Bennie came in. "Are you upset because Chris gave me a hand job?"

I wrapped him into my arms then kissed him. "If I was, I'd have said something baby. I trust you."

I put my weapon into the holster then put my jacket on just as Bennie planted another kiss on me. "Will you be back in time for lunch?"

I looked at my watch. "It's not even eleven yet so I should be. Don't forget to take Tonka out. You've been getting lax in that department love."

"Sorry lover, I'll do a better job."

I left the residence and made my way over to the AG's office. When I arrived, Adam was waiting on me. I showed Adam the papers JR printed out on Peterson's offshore account. "Do you think the AG will try and get a warrant based on this?"

"He's a by the book kind of guy so he might chew you out for illegally accessing that information."

"With what Nate gave us, there should be enough probable cause."

Adam thought for a moment. "Alright, we'll start with their financials here in the US. We won't have any problem getting that information."

"Yeah but an offshore account will be a different story."

When we walked into his office, we were met by a middle aged man. Adam shook his hand. "David, this is Agent Mason, he's the lead investigator on these two cases."

"It's nice to meet you Agent Mason. How's the investigation coming?"

"We're moving right along. With the evidence we have, I don't see a problem getting a conviction in the Peterson case on the attempted murders of Pete Morgan and me and the capital murder of Officer Curt Poole."

"Even though you didn't actually see him pull the trigger?"

I nodded my head. "I wish someone had seen him try to kill me or shoot Officer Poole then this other crap wouldn't have happened."

"Is he ready to be arraigned on those charges yet?"

"Not yet," I started. "The lab was working on that but when Officer Morgan was shot, that became the number one priority. As soon as that is finished, we'll look it over and decide on how best to charge him."

"David, we have him cold on this last shooting so once he's been arraigned, we'll have time to build an air tight case against him on the conspiracy charges."

"You do realize that's going to take a mountain of evidence, don't you?"

"Of course," I started. "But we also have an ace in the hole he doesn't know about either."

"Alright, enlighten me."

I smiled. "Nate Hill is willing to testify against him."

"A soon to be convicted felon is your ace in the hole?"

"I smiled then nodded. "Yep because we have them both dead to rights."

"How so?"

"Phone conversations," I started.

"Hold it; I don't recall asking for a warrant."

"You didn't, I did."

"Why wasn't I in the loop on this?" David asked getting somewhat steamed.

"Because this was an ongoing investigation into Nate Hill. He'd been taunting me ever since he fled California and arrived in DC."

"So how does this tie into the Peterson case."

"This was all quite by accident. Nate made the mistake of calling him the day he shot Pete. I answered his cell that we took off him when Peterson was searched then waited. The voice we heard on the other end was that of Nate Hill."

David relaxed a little. "You guys realize this was blind luck, don't you?"

I nodded my head. "Yeah I do and it was the break we needed. We also know how these two guys are tied together too."

"How's that?" David asked.

"They're related. That's something we didn't know until the day of the shooting thanks to Pete Morgan."

"You have a lot to tie together Agent Mason."

"I know and we still have a lot of evidence to sort through too. I'm hoping to get enough to put out in front of him so he'll be willing to plead guilty."

David looked at Adam. "What are you seeking in the Poole murder?"

"I'm going for the death penalty. It was a cold, calculated, premeditated act. They both need to get lawyers appointed before arraignment too."

"I'll take care of that in a few minutes so they'll be represented at their arraignment tomorrow."

I looked at Adam. "Are you going to need me there?"

Adam shook his head. "No, this is just where I'll present the charges before the judge and ask he be held without bond."

"Well, based on the charges, I don't think any judge will grant him bail."

Adam nodded. "I know and I'll also be arraigning Nate tomorrow as well."

"Good and since he jumped bail once, I know there's no chance of him getting it again." I replied as my cell went off. "Mason."

"Ace, it's Cal. I talked with Dr. Valez and he recommended a crematorium that he's dealt with before so I had him release the bodies to them."

"When will they have them ready to be interned?"

"Dr. Valez called me back and they said they would be ready late this afternoon."

"Alright, when can we have the funeral for them?"

"I called the cemetery and they can have it anytime. They just need about an hour to open the crypt and they know a minister who they can call."

"In all the confusion, I never talked with Chris about that." I said feeling bad.

"I'll make the arrangements and if there needs to be any changes, let me know."

"I will Cal and thanks." I said ending the call then I turned my attention back to Adam and the AG. "Sir, what kind of rapport do you have with the Cayman Islands?"

He looked confused. "Why are you asking?"

I didn't want to totally blow it so I handed him some of the papers. "These are Harold Peterson's financial records. As you can see, there are a lot of transactions and activity on the account. There are also a large number of transfer deposits from an unknown account."

David looked at me. "Why do I think it's not so unknown?"

"Well, I know where the account is. That's why I asked what I did."

"The Cayman Islands?"

I nodded my head. "That's right. Are the financials enough or will they want more evidence?"

"Leave that with me and I'll make some phone calls. A number of off shore banks are willing to cooperate with countries because they don't want to shield any sort of illegal activities."

"Have you dealt with anything like this before?" I asked knowing without that information, connecting the dots would be almost impossible.

"Only one time before but it wasn't in the Caymans and no matter what we did, we never got the information."

I wasn't getting a warm and fuzzy feeling about this. "I hope these people are more understanding for what's at stake here."

"Ace, I'll do the best I can." David said.

"That's all I can ask." I said looking at both David and Adam. "Keep me informed as to how this is going and if you need more ammunition."

David shook my hand then Adam's. "Ace, if I need anything, I'll get in touch with Adam. I know you two handled another case together and I was pleased with the results."

"Thanks," I said as I turned and left the office.

When I returned, the first thing I had to do was talk with Chris so I headed to the pool. Out there on their stomachs were Bennie and Chris lazily floating on the water. The first thing I noticed was the tan they were developing. I was about to speak when they saw me standing there. "Are you enjoying the view?"

"Actually I am and it's nice to see your butts aren't burnt." I said as I saw Johnny head inside.

The boys paddled over to the edge then Chris hopped out and gave me a hug. "I don't want to go through that again."

"Let's hope not." I said. "It looks like you two have had enough sun today so let's go inside."

Bennie joined us and then planted a kiss on me. "We need to get this chlorine off of us too."

We went inside and while the boys were in the shower, I had a cup of coffee. No sooner had I sat down when my cell rang. "Hi JR, what's up?"

"You're not going to believe what we found."

"I hope it's everything we need to bury that bastard Peterson."

"Well, we just started but I found the very first phone threat."

This took me by surprise. "The very first call?"

"Yeah, the first one."

I couldn't believe what he was telling me. "Where are you JR?"

"I'm in the computer room in the West Wing."

"I'm going to call Ed and have him join you. When he gets there, play that call for him please."

"Sure thing Ace but why are you acting so surprised?"

"Don't you remember who we all thought made that call after you retrieved it for us?" I asked.

"Yeah, you all said it was..." JR started then stopped. "This can't be right."

"Which of his computers are you going over?" I asked.

"His PC right now," JR said. "Once we've gone over this one, we'll start on the laptop."

"Alright JR, you're the computer gurus so I'll have to trust you there." I said ending the call then calling Ed.

I told him what JR had just told me and he was as dumfounded as I was. I told him to go over and listen to the call and he told me he would. While we were talking, Bennie and Chris came in so I ended the call.

Just then, Gloria came in. "Well, it's nice to see you're here on time for lunch."

Bennie looked up at her and smiled. "Would I risk missing one of your meals?"

"Not if you want to stay on my good side." She said with a giggle.

"Gloria, I don't think he could do anything that would get him on your bad side." I countered.

That got her laughing. "Señor Ace, you didn't know him when he was a little boy."

I quickly looked at Bennie and he was turning several shades of red causing me to slap my hand over my mouth to keep from busting out laughing. "Ace I was a typical little kid."

Chris looked over at him. "I bet you were dude."

Gloria brought in some of her famous Mexican hamburgers, fries and all of the fixings for lunch. While we were eating, I broached the subject of religion with Chris. "Chris, were you and your parents very religious?"

He finished his burger then shook his head. "Not really Ace. I went to Sunday School when I was younger but as far as going to church regularly, we didn't. Why are you asking?"

"Cal is getting your parent's bodies cremated and the cemetery said they can have the service tomorrow. The man at the cemetery said there is a minister he can call who can be there."

I could see he was lost in thought. "Ace, I don't know what to do."

"How about we just do something simple and private at the cemetery?" I asked.

He thought about it for a minute. "Thanks Ace, I like that idea."

After lunch, Adam called me again. "Ace, are you busy?"

"I was going to see what the techs have managed to get off Peterson's computer, why?"

"I just got a call from his attorney."

"Man, David works fast."

"He hadn't made any calls yet." Adam started.

"So what does this guy want?"

"He wants a meeting and to see the evidence we have."

"You have copies of everything we have."

"I know but what about on the conspiracy charges?"

"We're still working on that. You weren't planning on arraigning him on that yet, were you?"

"No, not until you said you had everything you needed but Peterson's attorney brought it up."

"Well, you can't give him what you don't have, now can you?" I asked laughing.

"Well no so can you meet me at the jail?"

"Sure, give me a few minutes here and I'll be on my way." I said then ended the call.

Bennie saw me close my phone. "Don't tell me you have to go back out again."

"I'm afraid so love. I have to meet Adam at the jail but before I do, I need to see your dad."

"Alright, we'll be in the game room." Bennie said as he and Chris headed upstairs.

I went over to the West Wing and spotted Ed. "Do you know if the President is free tomorrow morning?"

He shook his head. "I don't know, what's on your mind?"

"Cal is getting Chris's parent's funeral set up for tomorrow morning. I was hoping Ben would want to come too."

"That sounds good but do you think it's wise to draw all that attention to something private for Chris?"

"Good point," I said thinking. "Well, we could always use a couple of Suburbans."

"What about security?"

"We can send out an advanced team and have them around the Mausoleum. This way they won't scare Chris either."

Ed nodded as we reached the Oval Office. "Sounds good to me buddy."

I looked at Ben's secretary. "Is the President free?"

He picked up the phone and made a call then nodded his head. "You can go in now."

Ed and I went into Ben's office and he was looking at some papers. "Are we disturbing you, Sir?" I asked.

He set them down and motioned for us to sit down. "Not at all Ace, I was just finishing up some work. What's on your mind?"

"Well Sir, Cal Matthews is setting up funeral services for Chris's parents for tomorrow morning."

Ben raised his hand. "And you want to know if I would like to be there."

I smiled then felt my face turn red. "Yes Sir. I wanted to make sure your schedule was free before setting a time."

"Of course I would like to be there. My morning schedule is free. Do you know what time?"

"I was thinking maybe 9:30 or 10."

"I think 10 should be fine then we can return here for lunch. I do have a few meetings in the afternoon but will be free in time for dinner."

"Alright Sir, on Saturday we'll be getting Chris out to Seattle so he'll have a few days to get settled in before returning to school."

"How long will you be gone? I know Bennie is going to want to come with you too."

"We'll be back Tuesday afternoon."

He nodded his head. "I'm going to be in meetings most of next week. Do you have something to keep Bennie occupied?"

"As a matter of fact I do. I thought I'd take him over to the Academy. There is a class of new officers and agents so he can see what the classes are like."

As soon as I mentioned the Academy he looked at me. "What other training will he have?"

"Sir, he'll have to go through everything I did. I'd like to take him over to the range too and into the gym."

"The range?" Ben asked.

I nodded my head. "Yes Sir, he has to be weapons certified if he's going to be an agent. Now, I don't believe he's ever fired a pistol before so I can start him on something he can handle so he can master it."

"I don't know Ace." He said.

"If I might say something," Ed started, looking at Ben. "This is something Bennie wants to do so why not let him see what it is he's going to have to learn?"

I could see Ben mulling over what Ed just said. "Alright Ace, I trust you and I don't want to interfere with what Bennie wants to do with his life."

I smiled when he said what he had. "Thank you Sir and I will keep him safe at the range. If you'll excuse me now, I have to meet Adam Graham at the jail. Harold Peterson's lawyer wants to meet with us."

When I arrived at the jail, Adam was waiting for me. "Glad you could make it Ace."

"I wouldn't miss this for the world." I said pulling out an envelope.

"What's this?" He asked as we entered the jail.

"Copies of the evidence we have on him." I replied as I showed the deputy my credentials.

After locking my weapon up, we were led to a conference cell. Adam saw Peterson sitting with an older man then he stopped. "I'll be damned."

The deputy opened the door then we entered the cell and took a seat. "I see you're still with the US Attorney's office."

I looked at the man then over to Adam. "Do you know this guy?"

Adam nodded his head. "This is Marcus Cole; he is a former US Attorney. Marcus, this is Special Agent Mason. He's with the Secret Service."

"He stood up and shook my hand. "Ah, the one who arrested my client?"

"I am," I said.

"Was it really necessary to use a dog to subdue him?"

I looked at Peterson and he had a cocky smirk on his face. "Well, I could have just put a bullet in him and been done with it; then your services wouldn't have been necessary."

"You're really full of yourself, aren't you Mason?" Peterson shot out. "You're just another kike loving liberal."

"I'd watch what I said," I fired. "Anything you spout off in here can be used against you too."

"That's bullshit, you never read me my rights."

Adam shook his head. "You better think again. You asked for this meeting and your attorney is here."

"WHAT?" He shouted then started to stand up but I was way ahead of him.

"Quiet man," Cole said pulling on his arm. "Now tell me Adam, what is my client being charged with?"

Adam opened his briefcase and removed a file. "He's going to be arraigned on two counts of attempted murder of a Federal Officer and one count of first degree murder of a Federal Officer."

"Good luck proving it." Peterson said smugly.

I slammed my hand on the table. "I don't file charges unless I have all of my ducks in a row."

"You don't have shit Mason."

"When I arrested you, you were holding a Smith and Wesson .357 magnum."

"Yeah, so what," He started, then Cole put his hand on Peterson's. "You can't tie me to that gun in the Poole killing."

I sat back then put my hands behind my head then smiled. I sat there for several minutes then started snickering which only pissed Peterson off more. "What's so fucking funny?"

"You have a short memory you jackass. I told you, I don't have charges filed unless I have all of my ducks in a row."

"Just what the hell is that supposed to mean?"

Adam pulled out an envelope and handed it to Cole. "This is the evidence that ties the gun to you."

"You ain't got shit." Peterson shouted as I sat there and continued to smile.

"I wouldn't be too sure, if I were you."

Marcus was going through the papers. "All of this is circumstantial at best."

I tapped Adam on the shoulder and he looked over at me then I nodded my head. Adam reached back into his briefcase and took out another envelope and slid it over to Cole. Peterson saw this. "What's that?"

"The straw that will break your back in court," I smiled.

Marcus opened the envelope and pulled out a piece of paper. When he read it, his face lost its color. Peterson then started mouthing off again. "I told you once you ain't got shit on me Mason, so I dare you to prove I shot that fag kike lover Curt Poole."

Adam glared at him. "Your statements just gave me the ammunition to turn this into a hate crime also."

"Big fucking deal," Peterson shouted.

I tapped Adam on the arm then looked over to Harold. "You have a mighty big mouth on you today."

"So what, you ain't got shit on me."

"Are you willing to play You Bet Your Life?" I asked knowing what was in that envelope.

Peterson had been shooting his mouth off so much that he wasn't paying any attention to his attorney. "Sure, there is no way you can prove I shot him."

"Well, we can." I started. "First off we have your footprints when you shot Pete Morgan and they're an identical match to those we found at the crime scene of Officer Poole."

"That's nothing." Peterson said.

"If that's what you want to think but there is a piece of evidence we have that does tie you to the gun."

"That's bullshit," He said standing up.

Marcus tapped him on the hand. "You should sit down and be quiet."

Harold's head snapped over and he just stared at Marcus. "What are you talking about?"

Marcus took the papers and slid them over to Harold. Peterson's face turned white as a sheet. Adam closed his briefcase then looked at me. "Are you ready to go?"

"Yeah, let's get out of here." I said then Adam called for the guard and we made a stop so I could pick up my weapon. "Did you see the look on Peterson's face when he saw what was in that second envelope?"

He smiled at me as we walked towards our vehicles. "That was the coup de grâce."

"How much you want to bet he'll be calling you first thing tomorrow morning."

"He can call all he wants but I'm not making any deals. How is the investigation into the other things going?"

"Slowly, but that's because of all of the evidence we have to sift through. I don't believe there is a statute of limitations on this, is there?"

Adam shook his head. "It's ten years but he'll be dead long before the time limit comes up."

"We're going to keep going through the evidence because I do want to see where it leads us. It's a shame we couldn't get the pilot of that plane because I'd love to know who he was and who hired him."

Adam opened the door to his car. "I know what you mean, Ace. That might be the only link by which we can't connect Peterson to the crime and without it, it could blow the case out of the water."

He was right. "I know and it sucks big time. I need to get back to the residence so I'll be in touch. I'll be out of town for a few days but you can still get me on my cell."

"Where are you going?"

"I'm taking Chris out to Seattle. Sandy Brinkman has agreed to let him live with her and her family. Chris will be graduating in June then heading on to college."

"Did his parents have life insurance?" Adam asked.

I nodded my head. "Yes they did plus they set up a college fund for him also."

"That's great, does he have a lawyer?"

"Yes he does. I called a friend of mine, Cal Matthews, and he's handling all of that for him."

"He's a good attorney, I couldn't think of anyone any better than him."

I was about to answer when my cell went off. I looked at it then waved bye to Adam as he got into his car. "Yes Bennie, what is it?"

"Are you on your way home?"

"I'm leaving the jail now baby. I should be home in about twenty minutes."

"Well hurry up please."

I put my Bluetooth in then started the Hummer so I could talk and drive. "What's going on baby?"

"I can't really go into it here but please hurry."

I ended the call then hurried back to the residence. "Bennie, Chris, where are you?"

Bennie came out of his room along with Chris and I could tell both boys had been crying. In fact, it's a good thing the doors to the elevator had closed because Chris was in my arms. "Oh Ace, my life is ruined."

I wrapped my arms around him then I had Bennie in my arms. "What's going on boys?"

Bennie took me by the hand then led me to his room and showed me his computer. I was looking at the screen then I gasped. "Oh my god," I said covering my mouth.

"What will I do Ace?" Chris asked through a stream of tears.

I didn't have an answer for that question because I had a million of my own. "Boys, I need you to stay here. I have to go into my room and make some phone calls so I can get to the bottom of this."

I eased Chris over to the bed then headed for the door. "Ace, please don't leave me."

I opened the door and there was Tonka. "Don't worry son, I'm not leaving you. Tonka will keep you company while I make some phone calls. I have a lot of questions that need answering too."

I went across the hall then I heard the elevator doors open. I looked and there was Ed, Dusty and JR. "Hey buddy."

I motioned for them to come with me then we returned to Bennie's room. As soon as we stepped in, JR had Chris in his arms then I showed them the computer screen. "Who the hell would release something like this?" Dusty asked.

I shook my head. "I don't know but I'm going to find out."

Dusty, Ed and I went over to my room. "Ace, that was in letters to the editor so he would be the first person I'd talk to."

"I know buddy but I don't want him shouting First Amendment at me either." I said pulling out my cell. "Hello Adam, where are you?"

"I just got back to my office, what's up?"

"Do you have the net there?"

"I sure do, what's up?" Adam asked again as I gave him the link then I heard him go ballistic. "Who the hell is behind this?"

"I don't know buddy but I'm going to find out. How hard will it be to get me a couple of search warrants?"

"That all depends, what do you want to search?"

"The Times' computers."

"You don't want much do you?" He asked.

"Adam, I need to know who sent in that letter and I doubt he's going to give that information up without a fight."

"I understand buddy." Adam replied then the line got quiet for several seconds. "Let me make a couple of phone calls. While I'm doing this, send a couple of agents over to his office and see if he'll give you the information willingly."

"Alright Adam, I'll let you know what we find." I said ending the call then looked at Ed and Dusty. "Do you want to come with me?"

They nodded their heads then Ed pulled out his phone to make a call. While he was doing that, Dusty and I went over to Bennie's room and talked with Bennie, Chris and JR. I also had Bennie print out a copy of the letter so we had a hard copy of it when we talked with the editor.

Washington, DC traffic was heavy and it took us almost thirty minutes to get over to the Times' office. When we walked up, we were met by a security guard. "May I help you gentlemen?"

I showed him my credentials. "Can you direct me to the editor's office?"

"Do you have an appointment?" He asked.

"No I don't but this is official business."

"May I ask the nature of your business?"

"This is a matter between us and the editor."

"I'm sorry..." He started then stopped when he saw Ed reaching for his handcuffs.

"Are we going to have to do this the hard way?" Ed asked, holding his bracelets.

The guard swallowed hard. "Mr. Billings' office is on the third floor. I'll let him know you're on the way up."

Dusty put his hand on the phone. "That won't be necessary."

"I'll call you when we're in his office then join us." I said to Dusty as Ed and I headed for the elevator.

Ed and I found his office then we saw his secretary. "I'm Special Agent Ed Miller and this is Special Agent Rich Mason, we need to see Mr. Billings right away."

She got up and led us into his office. "Mr. Billings, these gentlemen are with the Secret Service."

He stood up and came out from behind his desk. "I'm Ralph Billings, how can I help the Secret Service?"

I removed the letter and handed it to him. "We want to know who sent you this letter."

"You realize this is covered under the First Amendment, don't you?"

Ed looked at him. "And you realize you've released something that is a matter of national security, don't you?"

"N...National Security?" He stuttered.

I nodded my head. "That's correct, now do you want to do this the easy way or the hard way?"

He got a little cocky. "What's the hard way?"

"We take everyone in here and put them into a large room then we'll wait until another agent gets here with a search warrant."

His mouth dropped open when he heard that. "And how long will that take?"

I looked at Ed then back over to Ralph. "Umm I don't know. That could take several hours, isn't that right Agent Miller."

"At least Agent Mason." Ed replied as I continued to watch Mr. Billings.

"Several hours," Ralph sputtered. "I have a paper to run and we're about to put the evening edition to bed."

"Ed, get everyone away from their desks." I said pulling out my cell so I could call Dusty.

"Come on agents, isn't there a way we can work this out?" Ralph asked as Ed opened the door.

I rubbed my chin. "Gee, I don't know. We have to go by the letter of the law, don't we Agent Miller."

"That's right Agent Mason." Ed answered as he went out and started rounding everyone up and moving them.

"Wait," Ralph said as he started typing on his computer. "Is this what you need?"

He stood up and moved out of the way just as Dusty came into the office. I sat down and Dusty came over and stood behind me. "Where is the information this person had to provide you?"

Billings came over then started typing. A new screen came up. "Is this what you need?"

I looked at the information, which was obviously false. "Can you show me the original form?"

Once again he typed some information in and another screen came up. I looked at the screen then panned down. Dusty tapped me on the shoulder. "There is the IP address. I'll get JR on the phone."

He got JR on the line and gave him the IP address. He put the phone by my ear so I could hear JR. "This will only take a minute babe."

"We're not alone JR." I said softly.

"Thanks and I have the provider's name of that IP address."

Dusty took the phone. "JR, call Agent Phillip Lee in the LA office. He has a friend who works there."

Dusty ended the call and then all we could do was wait. About twenty minutes later, JR called back. He gave me the name and it was to another large law firm. "Thanks for that info JR; I have another phone call to make."

I pulled out my cell and called Adam. "Adam, you're not going to believe who sent that letter to the editor."

I told him then it sounded like the line went dead. "Ace, are you sure of this?"

"I'm positive Adam. How do you want to handle this?"

"Where are you?"

"We're still at the newspaper."

"Alright, meet me at his office. He's got some major explaining to do."

"We're on our way. It should take us about twenty minutes to get there."

I ended the call then the three of us headed out to meet Adam. I filled Ed and Dusty in and they were really shocked by what I told them. When we arrived there was a security guard at the gate to the parking lot. "May I help you?"

"We're here to see one of the lawyers." I replied.

"Do you have an appointment?"

I shook my head. "No we don't but I know he'll see us."

"I'm sorry sir but I can't let you in."

I reached for my credentials. "As I said, I know he'll see us."

His eyes almost popped out of his head. "I'll let him know..."

"Don't," I said interrupting him. "Dusty, stay here with him to make sure he doesn't notify anyone up there."

"Sir, I have a job to do." The guard said as Dusty stepped out of the car.

He started to reach for his radio then Dusty handcuffed him. "And so do we," I fired back then went to park the Hummer.

As Ed and I were walking towards the gate, we saw Adam walking towards us. He saw Dusty standing by the handcuffed guard. "Why is he in handcuffs?"

"He was going to call upstairs and announce our presence."

Adam looked at the guard. "I'm Adam Graham with the US Attorney's office. If the handcuffs are removed, will you promise not to call upstairs?"

"I have a job to do sir and if I don't announce you, I'll be fired."

Adam shook his head. "We have a job to do also so if you can't honor our request, you'll remain in cuffs. Agent Moore, please stay with him and remove his radio."

We went inside the huge office building then found the directory. "Man, they have the entire fifth floor." Ed said as he rang for the elevator.

When we stepped off the elevator, we were in the lobby of Dechert, Dodge, Anderson, Givens and Cole. Adam went over to the receptionist. "Where can I find Marcus Cole?"

She went to pick up the phone but Adam stopped her. "He's in a meeting with the partners."

"Take us to them please." Adam said softly.

"Sir, they can't be disturbed."

Ed and I walked up and took out our credentials. "Ma'am, take us to them, please."

She got up and led us down a hall then opened the door to a large conference room. As soon as she stepped in a man sitting at the head of the table looked up at her. "What's the meaning of this Suzanne?"

Adam stepped in followed by Ed and me. He went over and stood by Marcus then looked at the man. "I'll ask the questions Mr. Dechert." Adam started then looked down to Marcus. "You have the explaining to do."

I took the letter out of my pocket and held it in front of Cole's eyes. "What's the meaning of this Cole?" I asked.

He tried to reach for it but I pulled it away. "It looks like an anonymous letter to the editor."

Mr. Dechert reached his hand out. "May I see that please?"

I went down and handed it to him. "Sir, Mr. Cole is correct. It's an anonymous letter to the editor."

"It's not anonymous any longer." I said.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Cole spat.

"It means the author is now known to us and it's you Marcus." Adam said.

"I hope you can prove this Sir." Mr. Dechert fired.

"I can," I started. "We went to the office of The Times and..."

"You illegally..." Marcus said interrupting me.

"Be quiet Mr. Cole." Mr. Dechert said. "Please go on Agent."

"Mason," I replied. "As I was saying, we went to the office of The Times and spoke with the editor. He allowed us access to their computers and assisted us in finding the name of the person who sent in the letter."

"What did you find?" Marcus spat.

"It was written by a William Smith..."

"So why are you here then Agent Mason?" Mr. Dechert asks.

"We were able to get the IP address on the email form. I had another agent track it down then contact the Internet Service Provider."

Marcus got smug then. "I do hope you had a warrant."

I shook my head. "Nope and I didn't need one."

He stood up and get into my face. "And just why not? That information is confidential."

"Sit down," I said putting my hand on his shoulder. "I didn't need one because the company cooperated with our request."

"WHAT?" Marcus started "That's ridiculous, they wouldn't do that. I'll sue..."

"So you admit you know who wrote the letter." Adam quickly asked.

"Uh now I didn't say that." Cole stammered.

"Silence," Mr. Dechert said. "Agent Mason, are you positive the letter came from this office?"

"Yes Sir," I replied. "Are you willing to allow us to inspect the computers here?"

"NO!" Cole shouted.

"Shut up this minute Marcus." Mr. Dechert shouted. "Agent Mason, if you would mind stepping outside for a few minutes, I'd like to discuss this with the partners."
