Chapter 82

Out in the field, the agent's were catching grief for wanting to take over the investigation of the Leeds case. "What makes you guys so special?"

"Considering we found the child and the perp who raped her, we got the case."

"Yeah?" The agent said with a cocky tone. "Who was the perp?"

"An FBI agent," I answered.

"What?" He almost shouted. "Ain't no way in hell one of us would rape a child and then commit murder!"

"I have an eye witness and we're awaiting DNA lab results."

"We'll see about that so called eye witness."

Dylan was biting his tongue. He wanted to smash that Fed's face in but he had work to do out there so he turned and walked away. He met his men behind the house and saw a group of FBI agents. Dylan got his men together and surrounded the Feds. "Hey, this is a crime scene."

Dylan was wearing his credentials. "Secret Service and this is our crime scene."

"Let me see some ID ... sir," Dylan retorted.

"FBI," the man said.

"So then show me your credentials."

"I'm a Fed, I don't have to show you shit." He said then it appeared he was going for his weapon.

Agent Leopold was behind him and he set the barrel of his AR on his neck. "Move your hands away from your belt," Leopold said.

"And if I don't?" Leopold said with a cocky attitude.

"If you move the gun in my hand goes boom," Dylan answered.

Leopold slowly moved his hands and raised them. Dylan took his weapon and secured it. He got his men together and set up a security team to watch the property over night.

Meanwhile at the Matthews' Bennie and I were having a wonderful time visiting. I took a few minutes and talked with Carl in private about his shoulder. When we were talking Cal knocked on the door and explained the history of Carl's shoulder. It seems when he was a young boy, he was hit by a line drive and severely dislocated it. The doctor said that if the shoulder was rested and he didn't reinjure it again, he shouldn't have any future problems. "Carl is going to have surgery at the end of this term."

"How long will he be recovering from it?" I asked.

"He's lucky. It's on his non-dominate arm so he'll be able to attend class."

"I'm sure he'll have a close friend helping him."

Carl smiled. "Jake is already helping me."

"Now you two don't go and get carried away," I said poking a little fun at Carl.

"Aw Ace, you're no fun." Carl said. "All work and no play makes Carl a horny boy."

"I'm sure you'll find a way to take care of that problem." .........

Editor's note: Miguel called me recently to let me know he had fallen and received a serious injury which would demand his full attention for some time to come. Therefore he needed to defer completing "The President's Son" for an unknown duration. From previous experience, I know a reader who is caught up in a story does not want it to stop abruptly. So I asked Miguel if I could share with the readers a summary of what Bennie, Ace, Ben and the others in the close knit presidential family would do from here.

Here goes . . . .

Ben debates running for a second term.  Bennie and Chris both will have graduated from college and getting on with their careers. But he and Chris want to go ahead and get married.  The odds of a victory for a gay married couple is still questionable as there may not be enough gay voters to win the Electoral College votes.  Having Chris with him is more important than his political career.

Chris, Bennie and Ace agree to support Ben to the fullest whatever his decision.  The leaders of the DNC argue that the Vice President would be easier to get elected if Ben were to resign at the beginning of the campaign season so the Veep would be an incumbent.

A full-fledged Round Table discussion, including Ben, Bennie, Ace, Chris and Ed finally decide that Ben will retire to the San Francisco area.  California of course is his home state where he would want his Presidential Library to be located.  Chris can continue his medical training at The University of San Francisco and specialize in Emergency Room triage so he can be on the front line of all types of the most serious medical needs.

Devon Cole, Sr., the wealthy Bermuda businessman, passes away and Ace and Bennie are named Devon, Jr.'s guardians with the understanding that they will adopt him.  They immediately file an application in the District of Columbia, which after some red tape between Bermuda and the United States because Devon, Jr. inherits his dad's vast fortune, is granted.  Bennie foregoes his plans to become a Secret Service agent, but will continue his studies in the criminal justice field. Ed agrees to assign Ace as Bennie's permanent Secret Service protector, and Johnny as Chris' Secret Service protector since he will be the President's spouse.

Ed reassigns himself as Ben's permanent Secret Service protector so he and Johnny can be together.  It looks like the group will continue to be a unit.  Pete is assigned as Special Agent in Charge Presidential Detail Security.

You're wondering about Gloria?  She's a part of the family and will go with them, as she was when Ben was governor of California.  And she'll be closer to her own family.

Isaac will accompany the president to coordinate the transition and all the details a former president encounters.

A first-rate real estate agent in the San Jose area, and a long-time supporter of Ben, successfully searches for appropriate property for the president in the San Francisco general area.

This concludes "The President's Son."

To our deep sadness,

Miguel passed away in a nursing facility from complications following his fall.  This is a tremendous loss to me personally, and from emails I have gotten, to his readers also.  Please think of him often as you read and enjoy his other stories.
