After Simon left the cabin, Chris looked out the porthole and saw that the sun was nearing the horizon. All that was left today was to tidy up the mess room after dinner and then a bit more studying for the both of them. The door to the cabin creaked open and Simon had a shocked look on his face. "Chris.......I heard..." but Simon couldn't finish what he was about to say as a loud bang echoed through the ship and then a violent shake made everything, including Chris and Simon, fall to the floor. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 2 - All hands on deck! It seemed like the whole cabin was one big blender. Everything was being tossed and thrown and the two boys looked for anything that was nailed down so that they wouldn't be part of this shaken snow globe. "Chris!!!" yelped Simon as he got hold of one of the bed legs. Simon looked around but couldn't find Chris anywhere in the cabin. He couldn't even hear himself think. That banging, no wait, it sounded more like a boom. Boom after boom after boom. And the whole cabin was shaking. The glass in the porthole started cracking in from the metallic frame. Simon looked around for his brother. There was still no sign of him. His study papers were drifting through the air. A picture frame of his family on the floor. His history book wet. "Wet? CHRIS!!!!!" shouted Simon again now very desperate. He followed the trail that made his book water soaked. There was a lot of water. And as the cabin rocked back and forth, the water was coming over to where he was. "It's not a lot of water" he said to himself just before shouting out Chris' name yet again. Though this time he thought he heard a faint moan. "I don't think there's a leak from the outside." "The tub!!!!!" he yelled out as he looked over and saw that, in fact, the tub had flipped itself over. Chris didn't empty out the bath, he thought. There was that moaning again. But now Simon was sure that the sound came behind the tub. No wait, from under the tub. "Chris!!! Are you in there?" shouted Simon. There, that moaning sound again. Now that he knew where his brother was, his senses started to focus on the other things around him. The booming and vibrations had stopped but the cabin was still rocking from side to side though not as violently as before. Up above on deck he could now hear people shouting. People?, he thought. Yes, there were people on this ship but not enough to make that much of noise. Simon got up and ran towards the tub. With all his might he lifted the tub and sure enough there was Chris. He had a bruise along his forehead but there was not a sign of blood. Simon knew that Chris had just bumped his head and was dazed. He pushed the tub further sending it onto its side and freeing Chris completely. Simon pulled Chris away from the mess of water and the risk of the tub falling back on them. "Chris! Chris! Can you hear me?" shouted Simon into Chris' ear. "Huh? W-w-what? W-w-here am i? Simon? W-what happened?" stammered the dazed boy. "Don't know. Something hit us, I think. Listen to the shoutings up there. I'm okay. I'm not hurt at all but you have a bruise on your head. It's all purplish." said Simon as he cradled his brother in his arms. "I'm alright. It doesn't hurt." said Chris but then his eyes flew open and he looked around and exclaimed, "Blake!" With that, Chris stood up and helped his brother to his feet. After getting his legs leveled out, Chris headed towards the door holding his brother's hand in his. He unlocked it and then cautiously stepped outside and moved in the direction of Blake's cabin. There was a bit of smoke near the ceiling of the corridor but not enough to get them choking on it so they moved on. Upon coming to the door, he tried pushing it and found it jammed not allowing him to get through. He aimed his shoulder to the door and ran towards it and pushed it open. "Blake?!" shouted Chris. "Chris?" came a weak reply back. Chris followed the voice and found Blake hiding under the bed. "What the heck happened?". Blake was shirtless. Chris could see the sweat dripping off his chest. Yet he was shivering. This is the sweat of fear, thought Chris. He quickly found one of Blake's shirts and a towel and eased him out from under the bed, dried the sweat off him and got him into his shirt. Blake put an arm around Chris' shoulder and with Simon still holding his hand, they ventured out slowly to see what was happening. Chris pushed the door to the deck open very carefully. It was oddly quiet now. A little bit of smoke swirled in and he stifled a cough. He could feel his eyes start to water. He pushed it a bit more and peaked out but this time Chris was looking into the barrel of a gun. "Come out very slowly... and no donkey business" said a man who was on the other end of the gun. Chris came out as carefully as he could with the other two boys in tow and looked over at the armed man. There was a turban on his head and his face was covered with a scarf but not covered enough for an ugly scare could be seen running across his hooked nose. The sight of the scare sent shivers down Chris' spine. Chris' eyes travel further south. The man was dressed in an array of clothes that didn't seem to match but the number of daggers shoved into his belt meant that he wouldn't have a problem with people telling him that he wasn't dressed well. "Boys, it's all right. Do as they say. They wont hurt anyone else. Just do as they say.", said Captain Murdock softly. Chris looked over to him and nodded his head and then looked over to the person next to him. Chris' eyes went wide. Luis was kneeling next to the captain, head down and the side of his shirt was soaked red. "Its only a small cut, Chris", the Captain continued noticing what Chris' eyes were staring at. "He'll pull through. Seen worse before. Dont worry about Luis, boys." Chris, Simon and Blake all moved towards the Captain with the help of the guns pointed into the small of their back. They then noticed that quite a few of these men were on their ship, all dressed in a similar way. A few fires had erupted around them. Simon pulled at the sleeve of Chris' shirt and pointed behind them. Chris and Blake looked over and saw another ship that had pulled aside them. Looking further around, they saw that their ship had been battered with holes and quite a bit of smoke bellowed from here and there. All three boys looked at each other and the same word ran through their minds at the same time. "Pirates!", they whispered aloud to each other. "Silence! No people say words!" shouted another of the turbaned men and raised the butt of his gun towards Blake's head but just held it there without striking him. Just then, two of the scarfed men went under and started looking through everything. The crew knew that there was nothing down there but clothes and food. They heard the two men shouting to each other in a language they haven't ever heard before. After a while, they came up with baskets containing food rations. Clothes were useless for them, even though it would have helped the pirates a long way. "All people! Move to other ship!" shouted one of the pirates who was pulling a rope bridge that a man on the pirate ship had thrown over and tied it down. The Captain pulled himself and the First Officer up and looked at the boys and with his eyes told them to follow him, no questions asked. The three boys got up and moved closer to the other two and they all went over to the other ship. Chris looked around and noticed that it was only the five of them. "Where's the rest of the crew?" he whispered to the Captain. The Captain looked back at Chris with a grave face and simply shook his head. The five of them were then pushed through a door that led to a dark corridor and eventually found themselves in a cabin that was now their prison. Simon clutched on to Chris as close as he could get and started crying. Blake too stood by his best friend and all three hugged each other for comfort in the corner of the room hoping that they will see the light of day again. The Captain went over to his First Officer looked to see if he could tend to his wound. The atmosphere of a the cabin was dark save for a single burning lamp that cast jumping shadows over fear stricken faces. Not one had any idea as to what would happen to them and they prayed that everything would turn out alright. All they could hear from above was the scrapping of feet and the mumblings of men of whose words they could not understand. And once in a while the wood of the ship creaked as if singing a harmony with the endless waves of the ocean. To be Continued.
