Miguel Sanchez The Pilot III Shane and Robert's Life Chapter 28 "I have one more question," Christine said. "Is there any monetary property in Jake's name?" "Yeah," Maria said. "There is a small strong box on a shelf in the hall closet. It has Savings Bonds in there. There are a lot of them. I would get him one every week. There must be close to $25,000 worth in there. Plus there is a trust fund my mother left for him. The key to the box is on my key ring in my purse." "I'll draw up the plea papers and bring them to your hearing," Christine said. Christine went over to the property room and got the key to the strong box and the key to the house and called John. John got off early and met her and the police at Jake's old home. The three of them entered the house and Christine went to the hall closet. The box was where Maria said it was and she took it down and opened it. Inside were the bonds and a copy of a trust set up for Jake. There was also a sealed envelope that Christine did not want to open. She looked at John and said, "He's going to need an attorney." "Shane Taylor has a lawyer that helped him with the adoption of his son and he's also handling their trusts," John said. He is good and I know he'd do Jake right." "Alright," Christine said. "I think you should contact him. When the hearing comes, you can tell the Judge you have an attorney to handle Jake's funds." "When is the hearing scheduled?" John asked. "I'm not sure," she said. "I know it's early next week. I will let you know when I get back to the office." "Alright," John said. "Look, Jake is still nervous about seeing his mother. Can you talk with him? We found out that he was upset at being kept in the dark after his Dad's trial." "Oh my God John," Christine said. "I didn't mean to ignore him. I'll be sure to see him before the trial," Christine left the house with the lock box and logged it into their property room then looked at her calendar. The hearing was scheduled for Tuesday at 9AM. She called John back and told him and said she would see him then. John got home and sat down and thought about being a father again. It felt just as good to him as when he decided to adopt James but he didn't want to tell Jake. He didn't want to build his hopes up only to have them shot down. He was lost in his thoughts when Billy, Jake and Joey came in from school. "Hi Daddy," Joey said as he ran and jumped up on his lap. "Hi tiger," John said as he stood and caught Joey in mid air. "Whoa hehe," Joey squealed. "Let's do that again." Jake came over and hugged John saying, "Hi Dad, are you ready for tonight?" "Huh," John said. "Dinner, tonight, with Buck," Billy said. "Oh damn," John said. "I forgot all about it." "There's still time baby," Billy said. "We don't have to be there until 5:30 so you don't have to rush." Billy got John and led him down to their room while Jake took Joey to theirs and the four guys got cleaned up for dinner. While John and Billy were in the shower, John started telling his partner what Christine told him about adopting Jake. John also told him that he had a little nest egg for his future and they should talk with Shane and Buck about the lawyer they have. Billy was happy with the news that Jake could very possibly be their new son. John then told Billy that he doesn't think Jake should be told until he heard it for himself in court. Billy agreed and asked, "Should Joey and I be there?" "Hummm," John thought. "I don't know. I know you would want to be there when the judge says Jake's ours but if you are, he might figure something's going on and will want to know." "What time is court?" Billy asked. "9," John said. "How about you take a half day off," John started saying. "Then you and Joey can come back and wait here until we get home." "I guess we can do that," Billy says. "Or we can go out and have a celebration dinner." "Let's go with the former," John said. They finished their shower and got dressed. When they went out to the living room, Jake and Joey were waiting on them. Joey looked up at Jake then said, "I bet I know what they were doing." "No we weren't," Billy said sticking his tongue out at him. "That may come later." "Looks like I'll be getting the tingles again," he said. Jake picked him up and said, "You're sooo naughty." Joey just grinned and said, "I know." Billy and John got the boys into their van and drove over to Dad's for their celebration dinner. John, Billy and the boys arrived on time and when they came in, Joey was the first to run to the twins and start hugging them. He kissed each twin then said, "You adopted now?" "Yep," Jeremy said. "Cool," Joey said smiling. "I have more brothers now. Do I get to play with you too?" That question took the twins totally by surprise. Aaron smiled at the little boy and said, "We'll see Joey." Dad got everyone together so we could leave for the restaurant. Dad had made reservations at one of his favorite places. It was a restaurant that had beef and chicken as well as seafood. When we entered Dad told her we had a reservation. The hostess said, "Yes Mr. Taylor, it will be just a minute. Your tables are being cleaned and put together." A waitress came out and said something to the hostess then the waitress said, "If you will please follow me gentlemen." We all followed the woman into the restaurant and over to two large tables that had been put together for us. Once we were all seated, she put up some screens and it looked like we had a private room all to ourselves. We started talking when two waiters came in. One had a big tray with glasses of water and the other had a champagne bucket with a bottle of champagne on it. He then went and set glasses by everyone. The taller one, and the cuter of the two, then handed each of us menus. "I'll be back once you have all decided on what you want." We all looked over the menu and decided on what we wanted then Joey asked, "Dad, can I have a cheeseburger?" John looked at him and said, "If that is what you really want but there are other things on the menu I know you like." Joey looked at the menu again and asked Jake for some help figuring what some of the things were when the waiter came back and asked, "Has everyone decided?" We all placed our orders and Joey decided on the cheeseburger and fries. Before he left, the waiter opened the bottle of champagne and started pouring. Dad noticed Joey didn't have sparkling cider in his glass so he said, "No champagne for the little man there please, he gets sparkling cider." "Yes sir," the waiter said. "I'll get that for you right away." The other waiter went and got the cider then Dad stood and said, "Today marks another beginning for my family. Yesterday my sons became fathers. I see the love they have for their sons and I also see the love their boys have for their Dads. I want you to know that we, your extended family and I will be here for you all anytime day or night. Sons, I have watched you with the boys and you are truly wonderful Dads. I am proud that I now have two more grandsons and yes, I will spoil them like I do with my other three. Aaron, Jeremy here is to your future and happiness with the Taylor family." "Here, here," everyone said as they touched glasses and sipped their drinks. The others toasted our boys then the waiters brought our dinners. The adults had steak and lobster while the teens had steak only. Joey had his cheeseburger and fries and demolished it in record time. Robert and I were stuffed to the max but the twins still had room for desert as did Joey. The three ordered something different then shared it with everyone. After everyone was thoroughly stuffed, Dad paid the bill and we headed back to our home to relax and chill out while our food digested. When we got home, the twins and Jake went to the twins' room to change out of their good clothes into something more comfortable. Joey went to follow when John picked him up and said, "No son, this is their time." "Why can't I go and spend some time with them too?" Joey said heartbroken. I thought about it for a minute then said, "Alright Joey, you can spend a little time with them too because you're their new brother as is Jake." John set Joey on his feet then the little guy padded down the hall towards the bedroom. John looked at me and said, "I was going to let them have their private time together." I looked at John and said, "They can have all the private time they want after you all leave. Joey doesn't get to see the twins all that much and I hope that changes." "Sure Shane," John said. "But we thought they would see Joey as taking their time away." "They will then have to realize that Joey is their brother and wants and needs to spend time with them," I said. "Jake spends the night here because if they do get romantic, they can have their privacy." "I know," John said. "We only have three bedrooms and even if we had a fourth, Joey would probably be outside their door listening." Dad looked at John and Billy smiling then said, "You guys have a little voyeur on your hands there." Billy looked at Dad and said, "I just wonder when the day will come when he wants to jump in and play with us and what should we do if that does happen?" "That is a god question son," Dad said. "I guess that all depends on just what Joey wants to do. I know the twins have masturbated him and even sucked him. It wouldn't surprise me if Jake hasn't done that too with him." "I know he's only 10," Billy started saying. "But he is acting more and more like I did when I was his age." "Around the house, I agree," Dad said. "But what about when he's outside or at school? Is he looking at other boys rather than girls?" "I don't know Pop," John said. "He's never come right out and said anything to me. What about you love?" "Me either," Billy said. "I would just continue letting him enjoy what he's doing so far and wait and see what happens over time," Dad said. Joey came walking down the hall to the living room with his head down and bottom lip sticking out. I looked at the little boy who appeared to have just lost his best friend and said, "What's wrong kiddo?" "They wanted me to leave," he said as his lip started to quiver. "Did they say why?" I asked. "They said they wanted to talk but I know what they were going to do," Joey said. "Oh," Dad said. "And what was that?" Joey looked over to him and said, "They're gonna have sex." "Are you sure son," Billy asked softly. "Well yeah," Joey said. "Why else would they want me to leave? I just wanted to watch some." I picked Joey up and set him on my lap so he could face me then said, "Would you like someone watching you if you and a special friend were going to do something?" "I wouldn't," he started saying then stopped. "I dunno, ah maybe." "Can I tell you something Joey?" I asked. He looked up at me and said, "Sure Uncle Shane." "Just so you know," I started. "Not every time they are alone are they having sex." "Yeah right Uncle Shane," Joey said scoffing at me. "It's true son," Robert said looking at the boy. I looked at him and continued, "When Uncle Robert and I go to the bedroom and close the door, we're not always going in there to have sex. A lot of times we just want to be alone so we can cuddle and talk and just be close to each other." "Well can't they do that out here or with me in there?" Joey asked. "Do you always talk in front of Jake?" John asked. "I know there have been plenty of times you and I have gone to your room and sat and talked, just the two of us." "Well yeah Dad," Joey said. "That was private stuff between you and me." "And," I said looking at him. "What is different since it's the twins and Jake?" "They don't have private stuff?" Joey said. "How do you know that son?" Billy asked. He looked down and said, "I dunno." I lifted his head and said, "Joey we all have things we say to people that is just between us and them. Aaron, Jeremy and Jake are the same way. Now we let you go down and spend some time with them earlier and you were in there almost an hour. We know you love the twins and you don't get to spend enough time with them and we're going to fix that." Billy picked Joey up and said, "I know it's tough with only three bedrooms and that you and Jake have to share. . ." "But I like sharing with Jake," Joey interrupted. "Yes, I know that," Billy continued. "But there are times when you might want to have a friend spend the night with you or the twins want to spend the night here. That's why they haven't son, no room and don't say they can stay in your room." "So what can we do Dad?" Joey asked. "Grandma and Grandpa are coming home Sunday," John said. "I think we will talk with them about having another bedroom added and when company comes, we will have that other bedroom." "Good idea son," Dad said. "I'm glad we had the extra one here and even then things were a little cramped but that WAS an emergency." It was getting late and John yawned, "Well, I think we should be heading home." I walked down the hall and knocked on the twins' door and a voice said, "Come in." When I opened it the boys were laying on the bed in their underwear cuddled together. I looked at Jake and said, "Your Dads and Joey are getting ready to head home. Do you want to say good bye to them?" "Oh yeah," Jake said climbing off the bed. The three boys came out to the living room and hugged Joey, John and Billy before they left. John looked at Jake and said, "I'll see you tomorrow son." "Tomorrow Dad?" Jake asked. "Un huh," he replied. "Don't you remember me telling you that my parents are coming home and we're all going to the airport to pick them up? We need for you to be home tomorrow to help get things straightened up so we don't have to do that Sunday morning." "Oooo yeah," Jake said. "I forgot all about that." I looked at the twins, "Don't worry guys; you'll get to meet them later in the day after they've settled in. You have another set of grandparents now." The boys were all smiles after they heard that. John, Billy and Joey left and headed home and the rest of us returned to the couch. Jake looked at me, "Was Joey mad when he came out here?" "Not so much mad son, as he was hurt" I said. "He thought you guys were going to have some fun and he wanted to watch. We spoke to him about everything and he seemed to understand. John is going to speak with his parents when they get home about adding another room so you can have the twins over." "Now that sounds good," Jake said. I was yawning and Jeremy looked at me, "Hey Aaron, looks like the old man is getting tired." That got my eyes open and I quickly grabbed my boy and started tickling him unmercifully. "Hehehehehe Daddy, stop hehehehehe please hehehehehe or I'll pee." I let him up, "So who's an old man?" He was still giggling and said, "You." I saw Robert yawning as he held Aaron. I reached my arms out and Jeremy came to me. I gave him a hug then the other two and Dad reached his arms around me and hugged me good night. Robert and I headed off to our bedroom for some much needed sleep. To be continued
