The boys were excited except for Sammy who would have been if he wasn't fast asleep. As the train pulled into the station the boys noticed right off that it was a different town from the one they had left several months before. The station and the adjoining hotel were both bearing fresh paint and they were not the only ones getting off the train. It seemed that many of the passengers were taking advantage of the special rates being offered to those who opted to stop over for a night here and refresh themselves before going on westward. On the carriage ride to the house they noticed that several of the homes had been spruced up. Harry told them that some new cottages were being put up by the lake for summer visitors as well. The shack where Tommy and his mother lived had been torn down and hunting lodges for the next Winter where being put up there as well. As they pulled up to the house Tommy came running out to greet them. He was soon pulling the boys toward the barn to greet "Thunder" while Harry and James headed toward the house. Betsy and Sally greeted them at the door. Sally rang the lunch bell and soon the boys were running for the food. After lunch Harry went out with Tommy to look at the horse. "Well, do you think he is ready?" Harry asked. ""He's as ready as I can get her, sir." The boy responded. "Excuse me. What's this sir nonsense?" Harry replied." It's Uncle Harry, remember" "Well uncle Harry, I think that he's ready. We'll know more when we get her on a real track as we don't have one here." "I realize that you have been working under some handicaps but we hope to remedy that as soon as we can. We'll also be getting some more horses so you'll have your hands full but we'll be getting you some extra help. I also want you to get some schooling. Don't give me a face like that. If you'll be handling my horses I will want to make sure that you can read and write properly. Now I have an order for you. I want you to take the afternoon off and go p[lay with the boys. They have missed you." "Gee, thanks Uncle Harry. I've missed them too. You don't know how much." At that Tommy gave Harry a hug and took off to find the boys. Harry went back to check up on things at the house. Even with the new bis mansion he was building in Manhattan he knew that he was going to spend as much time as he could at his old summer home. He had spent the happiest times of his childhood here and he loved the place- especially when he had his boys with him. Tommy was racing through the woods when suddenly he stopped and froze in place. He couldn't believe his eyes. There were Ronny and Danny kissing each other under a tree. Sammy was over looking at the stream. With the sound of the waterfall the two lovebirds hadn't hear Tommy coming up. Tommy coughed and Ronny and Danny jumped apart terrified at being caught. "Sorry guys. I didn't mean to scare you." Tommy said. "Please don't tell anyone, Tommy?" Ronny asked. ""Don't worry, I won't say anything as long as I get a kiss too." "You mean you like to kiss boys too?" Danny asked. "I don't know. I never tried it before. Aren't any guys around here I would want to kiss- except you and Ronny." Ronny and Danny looked at each other. The question in their eyes was- did they want to share. Then they both held out their arms and Tommy ran over to them. First Ronny kissed him then Tommy did. Then the three of them broke out in a fit of giggles which attracted little Sammy's attention. "What's so funny?" He asked. "You are little guy." his brother replied. "Come give us a hug." Meanwhile back at the house Harry was explaining the timetable to everyone. He told them that in two days they were going to have to get "Thunder" down to the station and ship him off to Saratoga. He said that all of them except Sally would be going and that they would have a week to work with thunder at the track. He also said that this was only a trial run- that he did not expect Thunder to win and that he hoped that Tommy would not be to disappointed. He was sure that Tommy was doing his best with the horse that he had.He wanted everyone to encourage Tommy and that he knew that one day Tommy would be the best horse trainer there was. When the boys returned for supper they were all in a good mood. Ronny asked if Tommy could sleep over in the main house with them and soon they were having a party. That night when harry went to bed expecting to spend the night alone he was surprised to find Ronny waiting for him. What he didn't know- yet- was that Tommy was in bed with Danny and Sammy and that as soon as little Sammy was asleep Danny and Tommy were in each others arms. They didn't have sex- the two boys didn't know about such things yet- but they did kiss and snuggle up together. They would have to wait until Ronny initiated them into more intimate delights- but that would be coming soon. Or should I say cumming soon? In the meantime Ronny and Harry were enjoying each others bodies. Three days later they were all in Saratoga looking over the track. In the afternoon Tommy took Thunder out on the track for the first time in order to get him used to it. It took a while for Thunder to get used to being on a track with other horses but eventually he started to calm down and trot along side of the others. Tommy figured that by the end of the week Thunder would be ready for a race. Harry hoped so. Of course being about the richest man in the country made it hard for Harry to go unnoticed and he found himself invited to many parties. He went to as few as he could without appearing to be unsociable. The day of the big race was soon at hand and the cream of New York Society was on hand. Actually as there were so many horses entered there was going to be a series of four elimination races with the top two out of each race to run in the finals. Thunder was to trot in the first heat. The neighbor, mr. Hatten's horse was the favorite and was scheduled for the final heat. Mr. Hatten, looking as mean as ever, had not spoken to any of them all week. In fact word got back to Harry that he had been bad mouthing all of them. This, of course, was not winning Mr. Hatten any friends as Harry and his party were soon very popular. Everyone felt sorry for them for no one thought they had a chance of winning. Never the less, Harry and Tommy were out on the track every day with Thunder going through their paces with the rest of the boys standing by cheering them on. The day of the big race dawned bright and sunny. Every one was dressed in their finest and down early to the track. Tommy admitted that he was very nervous and Thunder himself seemed very jittery. The pistol sounded and the first heat was off. Thunder took an early lead and was never headed. Everyone was surprised when he took the heat. Harry was elated- to say nothing of Ronny and the boys. Tommy was glad they were in the first heat as it gave him plenty of time to cool his horse down. What he didn't know was that Harry had bet a hundred dollars at long odd on Thunder. He told Tommy after the heat. He reminded the boy that he owned half of the horse and that they were already guaranteed to make a profit on the affair no matter how Thunder did in the finals. When Tommy found out that his share of the day after expenses would already by over a hundred dollars Tommy was floating on air. The boy had never even seen that much money in his life. That was a lot of money in those days. When his mother found out how much money they had made she would be excited too- and proud of her boy- but the day was not over. The finals would be much tougher against a better field. They would have to face Mr. Hatten's horse in that race and Tommy was very nervous about it. Apparently Thunder wasn't though as he contentedly chewed on some hay. At last the final race came- and they were off! Mr. Hatten's horse took the early lead but Thunder came up fast and they were neck and neck through the last turn. When Mr. Hatten's jockey thought they were where no one could see them he reached out and tried to put a stick in Tommy's wheels but he missed as Thunder pulled ahead and as the crowd roared Thunder crossed first over the finish line. Mr. Hatten's horse finished second but his jockey had been seen trying to do his evil deed! His horse was disqualified completely and he was fined for the infraction. Harry and his entourage returned to the farm a happy group and when Tommy got paid his share he was ecstatic! Just a short while before he and his mother were living in poverty and now they were well off. They had lots of money and a fine place to live- and to make matters even better they were friends with the richest man in America! As for Harry and his brood the winnings at Saratoga were a mere drop in the bucket. Everything was going well for them and they were setting down a legacy for generations to come. Oh, yes- they lived happily ever after! THE END
