The officers didn't want anyone interfering with the crime scene so we arranged for a large suite at a local motel. Our remaining staff was given a month of advanced pay and told to return home until we could enter the manor again. My personal security was supplemented with police guards to monitor the property until it was returned to our control. The coroner assured me he would contact us as soon as there were any results. WESTBRIDGE SPIRIT: CHAPTER SEVENTEEN (17) PHILLIP Maybrook was almost comatose the entire ride to the hotel. He sat next to me in the back seat , just staring out into space barely breathing or even blinking. We arrived in a lighter rain and gave our vehicle to the valet, who removed our luggage for the bellman. Checking in, we were shown to our suite and Richard made sure to tip the young man generously. Since we hadn't eaten yet, we looked over the room service menu and placed an order for the three of us. Maybrook had started to talk and said he was starving as the food he had purchased ended up on the ground. I managed to get him cleaned and into fresh clothing before the food arrived. Our meal was quiet and tense but at least we were able to get Maybrook to eat something. We finished and Richard took him by the fireplace while I snuck into our bedroom. Using my phone, I called home and reached Frank. Asking him to gather the adults in one room, I waited while they all were present. Putting me on speaker, I informed everyone about Lionel's death and how Maybrook was doing. They wanted to know if they should come but I said until the police were through with their work, there was nothing they could do. I told them what the officers had told us they had found and promised to update them as soon as we knew more. Returning to the other room, I found Richard holding Maybrook, who was wailing and screaming. Rushing over to his other side, I took over while Richard changed into some sweats. He told me about their past history and how they managed to reconnect after being apart all these years. In between sobs, I got the impression that they had even begun making plans to get married. This event was by far the worst thing that had befallen this family and was the last straw as far as I was concerned. Leading Maybrook to his room, I got him ready for bed and stayed until he was asleep. Returning to the living room, I called Ace and Conrad to have a three-way conversation about the next step in stopping the random attacks. We talked for a long while about the possibility of finding a trained exorcist. The biggest obstacle in the plan was figuring out where that ceremony should take place. Did these attacks originate at the manor or was one of us followed home by a spirit? It became clear that we might have to perform two separate rituals just to be sure that our family was freed of the curse that seemed to tail us. Both men agreed to find a qualified person who could safely survive both events. They promised to get back in touch as quickly as they could and we ended the call. Heading back to our room, I found Richard on the phone with the coroner for the investigation. A preliminary autopsy discovered an abnormally high level of adrenaline as well as what appeared to be finger bruises around Lionel's neck. We already knew there were no other people in the house that could have gotten to the bathroom where his body was found. Certainly, no individual at the manor had the physical strength or hand span to account for the size and shape of the bruises. They discussed keeping a private secure line since the police chief wanted the entire record kept top secret. It was an unusual step and made the coroner extremely uncomfortable as he felt that the department was attempting to suppress something. Richard hung up and looked at me with tears in his eyes. He had thought of Maybrook as a father figure and felt horrible that this tragedy hurt him. I took him in my arms and we sat on the bed crying together for several moments. Somewhere in the back of my mind I knew this had to be the work of that witch Elizabeth. She had been an unhappy individual when she was alive and strove to make others miserable. This torture needed to end before anyone else was hurt and I intended to make sure that it was. It took a couple of weeks until the police agreed to release the house and Lionel's body to us. They has taken far too much time deciding that Maybrook had nothing to do with the death. I think they were just scared because of the lack of physical evidence and no obvious motive. Since Lionel had no surviving family, Richard and I took care of his burial and even arranged for a spot for Maybrook in the future. We discovered shortly after his death that he had arranged for everything he owned to be left to the person he called his soul-mate. Maybrook inherited a large life-insurance policy as well as his car and condo. The house is still not considered safe by Ace or Conrad. They had not been successful in locating a qualified exorcist. A couple of potential individuals were mulling over the request and would eventually get back to them with an answer. After the funeral, Richard and I decided to take Maybrook home with us. On the plane ride, I sat next to him in first class while Richard sat in the row behind. Maybrook took my hand and told me that life was short and we shouldn't wait for anything. He begged me to get married as soon as we returned to Chicago. Since Illinois has recently become a same-sex legal marriage state, we could now do that without being merely a ceremonial event. Upon landing at O'Hare Airport, Frank and Walter met us at baggage claim and helped with Maybrook, who was still kind of in a fog. We arrived at Walter's house and the boys ran to encircle our friend in the arms. For the first time since Lionel's passing, he was laughing and smiling as they pulled him into the living room to watch them on their new video game. He relaxed and enjoyed the company as I took Richard into the den. Once there I kissed him and wrapped my arms around his shoulders. "Maybrook wants us to get married as soon as possible," I said. "What do you think about the idea?" He smiled and pulled me closer, "I think that Oliver would die to arrange it so let's have him go for it." We walked into the living room to find the rest of the clan gathered there. Richard made the announcement and, true to expectations, Oliver offered to coordinate the entire event. Maybrook smiled broadly as he wiped tears from his eyes and came over to give both of us a huge embrace. The children were thrilled and couldn't wait to have our relationship finally become legal. Walter shooed the boys upstairs to get some proper clothing and announced he was taking us out to dinner. Ten minutes later, a stretch limo pulled in front of the house and everyone piled in for the trip to our restaurant. The ride was short but it was fun to see the boys so excited. At the restaurant, we were shown to a private dining room where a wonderful gourmet meal was served. The dessert was a flaky apple strudel that Vicki was an expert in making. Kyle and Campbell had never had one and each wolfed won two huge pieces. Vicki came in and everyone raved about her dessert, when she surprised us with a cherry one for us to take home. By the time the meal was over, the younger ones were yawning so we piled back in the limo for the ride home. At the house, before Richard and I could get out, Walter informed us that he had reserved a suite at the Inter Continental Hotel for the week-end as a pre-wedding present. Giving him and Oliver great nig hugs, we headed off to celebrate our impending nuptials alone. At the hotel, the concierge showed us to our room and pointed out the wardrobe that had been delivered for us. He left and we checked out the clothes. There were fresh underwear, our tuxedos, a change of street wear, and our swimsuits. A letter attached to the armoire revealed that Walter and Oliver had somehow planned an entire week-end of relaxing fun as well as some romantic alone time. They had arranged theater tickets, massages, a private lake cruise, and private meals. It was incredibly sweet and thoughtful of them to go to so much trouble for us. We headed into the bathroom, set up the spa tub, and climbed in together. RICHARD We climbed into the tub together and snuggled in the warm water under the suds. I wrapped my arms around my fiancée and kissed his neck and ears as he made a sound that resembled a cat's purr. It felt so comforting just being alone with Phillip and loving him completely. He stroked my legs and turned to kiss my lips from time to time. As the water started to cool, we rinsed off the bubbles and dried off each other. Feeling romantic, I picked him up in my arms and carted him towards the large, soft bed. His lips were nuzzling my ears as I laid him on the soft comforter. Pulling me on top of him and whispered for me to take him gently. The look of lust in his eyes was so strong that I was instantly erect and dripping. "You really are horny, aren't you?" I asked. Moaning loudly, he wrapped his legs around my waist and buried his tongue in my mouth. I kissed him back and moved to reach for the lube on the nightstand. Using my fingers and raising his legs, I lubed him while stroking his throbbing erection. Phillip pushed back and squirmed the longer I probed his tunnel. Locking my gaze on his face, I placed my cock by his back door and slowly entered my lover. The sounds of passion were coming from both of us as I reached bottom. Twisting my hips, I withdrew and settled into a nice, rhythm making certain that I hit his pleasure button on each downward thrust. The harder I fucked, the more he moaned. Soon we were both panting and sweating as our mutual climaxes were approaching. Phillip suddenly yelled and erupted without even being touched, which was so erotic that I emptied myself deep inside his warm ass. After recovering and cleaning up, I pulled back the covers and we crawled next to each other for a night of comfortable slumber. PHILLIP Just as I drifted of to sleep, I sensed the smells of London but couldn't understand why. Looking at my surroundings, I realized that I was no longer in bed with my lover. It was an ornate sitting room that was elegantly decorated in the latest Parisian wallpaper in shades of rose and green. There were two large sofas with carved woodwork and deep crimson velvet that was thickly tufted, placed in front of a large fireplace. Between these pieces was a delicate coffee table holding a silver tea setting with china cups. Mr Llewelyn was on one side facing Geoffrey as he poured out High Tea, complete with cucumber and water cress sandwiches. The voice was deeper than my own as they talked about an investment he was considering. Geoffrey looked as if he had no slept well in weeks and he was extremely gaunt. He asked all the questions that would have been logical but still seemed distracted. Occasionally, his thoughts would wander far from the topic at hand. Reviewing the initial amounts and time frames, we agreed to meet at his lawyer's office before ending our meeting. The banker exited the house to his waiting hansom cab and gave the driver the address. As they rode along, he reviewed the notes from their meeting to begin structuring the agreement for Geoffrey's signature. Pulling up in front of his home, he was about to go inside when a strange man in a long overcoat approached him. "Mr. Llewelyn, you have been speaking with Matthew Wilhelm?" he asked with a thick, German accent. "I'm sorry but that really is between my client and I." he responded. Brandishing a gun, he ushered him inside and towards the den. Luckily, he lived alone so there were no other people in danger. Llewelyn sat behind his desk as the stranger took the seat on front of him. The man began by explaining that he had been hired to investigate Mr. Wilhelm by a wealthy client. It involved an inheritance that was due to the subject or so this man claimed. The banker obviously didn't believe him but wasn't sure how to proceed with this conversation. Not wanting to expose himself to legal troubles nor Matthew to potential harm, he explained that he was meeting with a lawyer's aide concerning a recent lawsuit brought against his firm. Presenting actual files related to the court action, the visitor scanned them before apologizing. With his curiosity apparently satisfied, the strange man rose and said he would be in contact again, if necessary. Once the door closed, Mr. Llewelyn stammered to the den and poured himself a glass of sherry to steady his nerves. Never before had he been confronted with a gun over such a minor matter as an inheritance. It didn't make any sense as he rang the local police station. They agreed to send an officer as quickly as possible. He paced the floor until the front doorbell rang some ten minutes later Cautiously, he peered out the small glass peephole to confirm the identity of the person outside before opening it for the policeman to enter. He showed his visitor the den and explained what he had transpired with the strange man with the German accent. The officer agreed to contact Matthew to alert him about the potential danger and take his statement as well. As the constable left, Mr. Llewelyn closed the door and my dream came to a fuzzy end as I watched him walk towards his kitchen. I awoke to find Richard lying on his back with the sheet partially covering his gorgeous body. Every time I looked at this wonderful young man in my bed, my heart was filled with a combination of sorrow and pure joy. My love for Theodore had been so strong that I felt guilty for being happy now. In my deepest heart, I knew that my young lover wanted me to move on and was delighted that Richard was now in my life. Leaning down to kiss my sleeping angel, I carefully crept to the bathroom to relieve myself. As I finished and stood to wash my hands, the message appeared on the mirror. YOU'RE NEXT, YOU KNOW. It filled the entire space of the glass as I stood there too horrified to move or scream. Just when I decided to try to call Richard, the mirror shattered and I fell backwards onto the floor, surrounded by shards of broken glass. Richard heard me yell and almost cut his feet while trying to reach me. Gingerly lifting me up and carrying me to the sitting room, I held him and cried as he rocked me gently. Would this nightmare ever end? What had any of us done to deserve these attacks? TO BE CONTINUED...
