Well, me and Jacob still live in Northern Minnesota. If you have been following the weather lately, you will know it has been brutally cold. Not the kind-off cold that you see on the national news about New York or other places like that. -35 air temperatures and -70 wind-chill temps. We always laugh when we see reporters reporting that it is so cold in New York when the temperature is like 5 degrees. That would be a heat wave where we are! In any case, I have been asked to write more in-depth about my life in the minor leagues of hockey, so here it goes. After high school, I was offered scholarships from at least 10 different colleges. All were top hockey colleges. I chose an in-state school. I went up there, but I really had a hard time keeping my grades up to standard. I wasn't the best student in high school, and it was even more difficult for me in college. After my first semester, I knew that I wasn't going to last in college and decided to go to Canada and ply my hockey trade in the major juniors. It was the right choice. I was able to play hockey and meet some really cool people. I was only up there for 1 year, but it was great. After that, I spent one more year in major juniors, but back in the states. I got drafted by a an NHL team and begun my journey to try to make it to the NHL. When I was younger, I thought it was just a matter of time. I had some great years in the minors. One year, I had over 100 points. After that year, I thought for sure I would be able to at least get an invite to a NHL training camp. But the call never came. I guess my small size turned people off. They didn't think I was going to be able to compete with the new NHL which was going to bigger players. One thing I never lost was the ability to score. I was always able to score goals. I also never lost the ability to be me. Each team I played on, I was always able to let the other players know who I was. I played on about 20 minor league hockey teams. I got traded around a lot during the later years. In one of the years, I was playing for a team in Georgia. I was about 22 years old. When I got into town, I was met by one of the guys from the team office. He was nice to me and told me that I was going to have an apartment by myself. This was weird to me because all of the minor league teams I had ever played with up to that time, we always shared rooms. I asked him why, and he told me that the team had heard rumors that I was gay and that it was probably best that I roomed alone. I didn't really care, I was just happy that I got an apartment and didn't have to have a roommate. After a few weeks, one of my teammates, a really good looking guy from Finland kept coming over to play video games. Well, it turned out that he wasn't just coming over to play video games. He was gay as well, and super hot. He was 18, sandy blond, had a really smooth body with an uncut dick that was perfect. I found that out one day when we were playing video games and he decided to put his hand on my crotch. I didn't need any other signal and dropped my game controller and attacked him. I had not had any contact with another guy for several years and I didn't waste it. I pulled his hand away from my crotch and basically shed all my clothes and ripped his clothes off in seconds. In no time, we were naked and kissing and frotting our cocks together until we both came. The team we played for didn't care that I was gay. They all know obviously. I think I made it known to try and get other guys on the team to come out. Lol. Me and the guy from Finland ended up sharing the apartment for the year, plus rooming together when on the road. As life in the hockey minor leagues would have it, we were on different teams the next year. I really liked him, and I know he liked me, but it is what it is. Life in the minors was kindof crazy. The team owners in some cases were nuts. They paid us like shit and did everything they could to try and fill their arenas. One owner in particular used to send over a guy to the apartment complex that we all lived in with drugs. Everything you could ever imagine. This guy would have coke, heroin, weed, oxy, speed, you name it. He paid us like crap, but would supplement our income with drugs. I never really got into that, but some of my friends did. I asked him one year for a raise and he told me that he would increase the amount of drugs I could get instead. When I told him that I didn't do that shit I got fired. The next year I was playing for a team in his league and it was almost the end of the year and I got traded back to his team and he came up to me and told me that if I did good in the playoffs, I would be given a coffee cup full of coke.. I asked him if he remembered me from the year before, the guy that told him that I didn't do drugs, and he said he didn't? I asked him if I could be given the value of the coffee cup coke and if I did good, and he said no. So in '07, I retired and wrote the story of my life growing up as a gay hockey player. I can't believe it has been that long since I wrote it. I do hope that as many hockey players as possible read it to realize that you can be who you are and still do what you do. Being gay is just what it is. It is no different than being left handed. It is how god made you. Take Care All!
