The Big Mistake: By ~J~ Chapter 7: Moving On The next day at school, I noticed a change in some of my old friends and teammates. A couple of the guys from the team a came up and told me that James and Sean threatened them. They apologized and said that they had no problem with me being gay, just as long as I didn't make a move on them. We all had a chuckle over that. I did hear a few snide remarks from some of the other teammates, but I no longer cared. Everything in my world was right again! Well almost everything there was still the Jake "issue". Should I take a chance and go with him as everyone was telling me to do? I figured what could it hurt to go out on one date with him. If there was no sparks, then maybe we could become friends. It would be nice to have a gay friend to talk to, who understands exactly what I am going through. Monday morning I nervously walked up to Jake. "Hey Jake!" "Hey there TJ what's up?" "I-I was wondering I-If you were s-still interested in g-going o-out?" A huge smile crossed his face "Of course I am! How about Friday?" "Friday is g-good!" "Sweet give me your number, and I will call you tonight" We exchanged numbers, and he promised to call me to discuss the details. I walked away feeling almost giddy! Around 7 PM later that night my brother yells up the stairs. "TJ,... you have a phone call!" "Thanks,... I've got it!" I yell down, as I pick up the phone in my room. "Hello?" "Hey TJ its Jake!" "OH!,... Hey Jake what' going on?" "Well,... not much! I'm just trying to finish this history paper for Mr. Miller's class!" "Oh! I thankfully don't have him this year!" "Lucky you!... So listen where do you want to go Friday?" "I don't know,... dinner maybe?" "Sounds good to me!...What's you favorite food?" "I like everything...Well, almost everything!...No sushi!" "OK!... Same here!... How does Italian sound?" "Great! There's that new place on Fifth we can try." "Sounds good! How 'bout I pick you up at seven in Friday night. We can go to dinner then maybe a movie afterwards!" "Sure!... Do you know where I live?" After I gave Jake the directions to my house, we ended up talking for almost two hours! I never knew that we had so much in common! He also had a younger brother, and he loved many of the same movies I did! It felt so nice to be able to get to know him a little better before our date on Friday. Granted I was still nervous, this being my first date and all. I just always thought it would be Max! However, I think that I am going to like going out with Jake. He seems like a pretty nice guy and hot, too! The next day, at school Max walks up to me with this shit-eating grin. "So,... I heard you're going out on Friday!" "Who told you?" "Whom else!... Jake told me!...He seems REALLY excited!" "H-He is?" "Yeah!... He EVEN told me that you two were up talking most of the night!" "Well!... I wouldn't say MOST of the night, just a few hours!" "Dude!... You NEVER talked to me on the phone for a few hours!" "Well that's 'because' I was 'actually' having an intelligent with him! With 'you' all I hear is 'blah blah blah'!" I joke! Max sticks out his tongue at me, while punching me lightly on the arm. We continued our banter until the bell rang, and we head to our separate classes. Max promised me that he would get his revenge later! The week seemed to be flying by. I saw Jake a few times in between classes. I would catch his eye, and he would wink at me making me feel all tingly inside. I couldn't believe I was actually going out with him! The closer Friday approached the more nervous I got! Thursday I came home from school to find my mother already there. This caused me to worry a little bit since she was never home this early. "Hey Mom, I'm home!" "I'm in the kitchen TJ!" I walk into the kitchen and find her sitting at the table. On top of the counter, there are a bunch of brochures. She motions for me to join her at the table. "What's all this mom?" I say sitting across from her looking at the brochures. "TJ,... there is some very important stuff I want to talk to you about!" "O-Ok!... What is it?" "Well,... last night Mike told me about your date!" "He did WHAT!" "No!,... TJ don't be upset! I kind of tricked him into telling me!" "But, still, he had no right to tell you!" "No!... He didn't! But, why didn't you tell me?" "Well I-I kinda... f-forgot!" "Well,... next time you 'forget' Mister there will be no date for you!" "Yes Ma'am!" "Now your probably wondering what this stuff is on the table!" "Yeah!" "I know we already had the 'sex' talk, but I feel due to your recent 'outing' that we have more to discuss!" "OH MOM!" I groaned at the thought of discussing this subject with my mother! "I know TJ that I'm the last person that you want to talk to about this!" "Do WE have to?" "Yes! Now I went to The Gay and Lesbian Center today and picked these up." She points to all the pamphlets. "You went to The Gay and Lesbian Center?!" "Yes! Don't be so surprised TJ, I want to support you as much as I can!" "Thanks Mom!" "Anything for you baby! Now I told them how I have a gay son, who has just come out. They handed me these pamphlets." I pick up a few of the pamphlets and go through them while she is talking. "They said that if you have any questions you are more then welcome to come down and talk to someone." "OK!... Mom thanks!" I get up and give her a hug. "I am just worried baby!... I don't want anything to happen to you!" "It WON'T Mom!" "I want you to promise me that if you need anything or have any questions you will talk to someone!" "I PROMISE Mom!" "I also want you to promise that you won't have sex till you feel you are ready. And, when you do make sure you use protection no matter what!" "What?!... Aren't you ready to be a grandma?!" "Don't get smart with me young man!... You know what I mean!" "Yes!.. Ma'am! I promise not to have sex till I am sure! And, I will always use protection!" "Good! Now you run upstairs and do your homework while I fix dinner!" Thus ending our 'sex talk' that turned out not to be so bad. Later on that night, as lay in bed I thought about the discussion my mom, and I had. I rolled over and picked up the pamphlets off my side table. There were booklets on AIDS and STD's, Partner Abuse, Youth Services and Hate Crimes. I was so glad that I had a parent who cared enough about me to go to The Gay and Lesbian Center. I just hope that tomorrow she doesn't embarrass the hell out of me! Well I hope everyone enjoyed this chapter. I want to thank you for all the e-mails of encouragement! Chapter 8 is done and will be out in about a week. I also want to thank my wise editor for all the help he has given me! Hope everyone is well Thanks ~J~
