Chapter 6

Jamerson made some phone calls to the security office--he was now firmly in charge, as I had replaced the former chief. He was putting feelers out all over NYC looking for anything that give us information on this guy.

Once he was finished, he left to go talk to the pilot. Shortly after that, I felt the plane, as it began to move--we were taxiing down the runway. I walked back to my personal quarters and sat on my bed--I stared blankly at the TV.

"Look Ty, It's not your fault," Kyle said, as he stood in the doorway.

A tear rolled down my cheek as I looked up at him. "No matter what happens, it won't end well." I said, as I fought back the tears.

He looked me in my eyes as he said: "You don't believe that do you?"

I nodded, as I said: "I am scared Kyle--this is just too much for me."  I then looked down at my trembling hands.

Kyle took charge as he took my hands and pulled me into his arms. "Ty, you have a team of agents who are willing to give up their lives for you--I'm one of them," he said, as he kissed me gently on the forehead.

What I didn't tell him was that I was afraid of losing Kyle--I didn't want to.

I woke when I felt the plane land. I looked around and found Kyle holding me. I looked up at him; I must admit I missed him way too much.

"Kyle?" I asked, as I shook him gingerly.

"What's up babe?" he mumbled.

"We've landed. What's going on?" I asked.

"We're dropping Ian off with family--two guards will accompany him--he'll be fine. Once they're gone, we'll be out of the country." He said, as he held me tighter.

I slipped out of his grasp, and said: "Out of the country?! What about Andy's funeral? Am I not going to my best friend's funeral?"

Now fully awake and ready for the impending fight, he sat up–he looked at me. "No, you're not going to a funeral--Andy apparently wanted to be cremated--he wanted his ashes to be scattered from the Eiffel Tower--that's where we're headed--Paris. There's a safe house there. Kathy's already there, making sure everything is the way its suppose to be--I see the look on your face--she'll be safe–she's well guarded.

"As for Alexei he's already at the safe house making sure everything's ok. Everything is being taken care of," he explained. He opened his arms wide as he beckoned me to him.

"What about us?" I asked. "If I come back and lay with you, where does that leave us?"

"Tyler, I love you–that's all that matters." He thought for a few moments. "What about you?"

"I just want you to be with me." I said, as I crawled into bed with him.

"I only want you to be with me babe. That's all I ever wanted," he said, as he took me into his strong arms.

I was sitting at my computer desk, when Jamerson came into my personal quarters.

"We know who's behind it," he said, as he dropped a folder on my desk.

"I don't want to read--I want to know who it is." I said, as I looked up.

"Jennifer Collins." He said.

I wracked my brain trying to figure out who she was. One person came to mind--Nate--"Nate's mother?" I asked, in a shocked manner.

"The one and only–all signs point to her–from the guys we busted back in Hawaii, to the guy we picked up for the murder of Andy." Jamerson said–he had a proud look about with his face.

"What would she have against me," I asked, as I saw Moore enter the room.

"Remember the information you dug up on Nate for the meeting in New York?" I nodded. "Well, it got out somehow."

Austin then spoke up, "We have a leak somewhere--Ian and his family were just attacked--he's ok, but his father was killed. Kathy's dead too. I just looked at him--I couldn't believe what I was hearing. A guy I barely even knew was being attacked because of me; the last link I had to my parents, other than Jamerson, was dead to. In a day, two of the most important people to me, were dead. I only have Alexei left.

I wanted to talk, but my mouth wouldn't work. My body and my heart hurt. I reacted the only way I knew.

I picked up my laptop computer and threw it against the wall. Sparks flew everywhere, as it crashed against the wall.

"I want to know who the fucking leak is--I want know before we land in Paris--when we land, I want every available resource at the safe house. How much longer will be airborne?" I asked, as I looked at Jamerson.

"Seven hours." He said.

I set my jaw. "Jamerson find Kyle--bring him here. We're going to have a talk."

Everyone left the room. As I waited, I thought to myself that things needed to be changed, and in a big way. I was absorbed in thought when Kyle and Jamerson came into the room.

Jamerson first told me that he had everyone on their way to Paris. He then went on to outline the information he had on Nate's mother and her plot to have me killed. Kyle and Jamerson then brain stormed about what we were going to do about Jennifer Collins.

This went on for hours, the two of them going back and forth about what to do. While they were doing that, I was doing my own thinking. I was sifting through the information I read through in the files. We all were missing something, it was blatantly obvious, but we were missing it.

"Guys?" I said, as Interrupted a shouting match between the two of them.

"What babe?" Kyle said, as he came over.

"I don't think we should meet at the safe house--I think we should meet somewhere else."

"Why?" Jamerson asked.

I looked at Kyle and wondered if he was thinking the same thing I was. "It's just a hunch. But I think we should meet in London."

"But what about the safe house?" Kyle asked.

"I see what you are saying little one. If they knew about Ian and Kathy then they know about the safe house. I'll get on the horn and let people know about the change." He said, as he got on his cell phone.

"What's going on?" Kyle asked, as he looked at me.

"The wheels have been turning up here." I said tapping my forehead. "Kathy was back in New York. Her flight was supposed to leave tomorrow at 7pm. This flight took off at 12pm and we landed in Connecticut at," I calculated in my head. "Let's just say one. I am not sure how long it takes to get to France from New York. So let's say 7 hours." Kyle then interrupted me.

"Babe, what's your point?" he asked.

"Who is in charge of all of the flights of this group? Who was there in the conference room when the information I had about Nate left my hands? And who is in France waiting for us right now?" I explained.

His eyes lit up with the realization. "You can't be serious? You think he might be the leak?"

"He has to be." I said. "That bastard!" I said, as the anger grew in me.

"What are you going to do with him?" Kyle asked.

"Well we're going to land in London and get out bearings. Then were going to go to Paris like we know nothing and see what he has planned for us."

"Are you sure about that?" he asked me.

"Never been more sure of anything in my life."

****

"But you were supposed to be here by now!" Alexei whined into the phone.

"We had engine trouble--we will be there as soon as possible," I said, as I tried to keep the contempt out of my voice.

"Sir, have you heard about Kathy? I'm greatly troubled about that." He said.

"Who told you about that? We just found out about it." I asked.

"Umm, the Company put out the information," he said--he was lying through his teeth.

"Oh, ok." I said, as I tried to sound convincing. "Well, we'll be there soon. So hold tight." I said, as I turned off the speakerphone.

"That slimy weasel." Jamerson said, as he slammed his fist on the table. "Who does he think he is!" He looked at us and went to talk to the small army he had assembled.

I started to pace, as I looked around the hanger we commandeered for our use. I thought about all the evidence that I had on Alexei--the only thing we didn't have was a reason. Why would he want do this?

"Tyler?" Kyle said getting my attention.

"Yes babe?" I said, as I walked to him and hugged him.

"What are you thinking about?" he asked me.

"Why? Why would he want to do this?" I asked.

"How did he come to work for you?" Kyle asked.

"My parents kept getting on my case because I was forgetting things a lot. For a while I was my dad's second in command and I was missing meetings with clients. So they put an ad for a full time assistant.

"One day I was complaining to Nate about the whole thing and about me having to get an assistant. He told me he had the perfect guy for me, because that's what his mom does. She trains people for that.

"So he set up a meeting with Alexei one day. We hit it off pretty good and then my parents died in the accident. I couldn't handle the pressure of getting everything ready so Alexei rose to the occasion and put together the funeral. He thought of it as an audition. After everything was said and done, he was hired. I thought I'd made a smart decision." I said, as I paced back and forth.

"Ok," he said. "So we know it's not him who has issue with you." Kyle pointed out.

"Yea, it's Nate's mom. But what is it?" I asked as I thought about it.

"Did she know about you and Nate?" he asked.

"I assume she did, but from the note that was left with..." I said, as I tried not to throw up. I had remembered the blood soaked letter. "She was always a weird lady." I said, as I thought back.

"Ok, everyone's been briefed--let's get this show over with." Jamerson said.

"Does everyone know that we may be walking into an ambush?" I asked.

"They've been briefed on every possible scenario." Jamerson said.

"Good. I am to assume that Kyle is going to be on me?" I asked.

"I don't know about what you two do on your personal time, but he's going to be at your side--for the duration." Jamerson said as he smiled.

"Just get everyone loaded on the plane." I said, as I threw a pen at him and smiled.
