The Cabin by the Lake part II Chapter 11 Jerry continued to grow and gain a lot of self confidence. Either he went to his dad's place or they came to the lake, every weekend Everyone noticed that the bond between Jerry and his parents grew stronger all the time. Kyle and Dennis were very proud of their sons and beamed with pride when anyone gave them a compliment. Some thought that Kyle and Dennis were too young to be raising the young boys. However, just the opposite was true. They were never too tired to play a little game of touch football or a game called `Flys up' (catch a fly ball and you become the batter), tag or `Marco Polo' or some other active fun game. Between the four of them, someone would find something to do rather than just sit and watch TV or play games on computer. Mom, Joel and Jeremy went to Coos Bay to spend several days with the boys' grandparents. Kyle and Dennis moped around like two orphaned calves. "Dennis, remember when you gave me a black eye and fat lip. If You don't straighten up and join the world of the living then I am going to make mush out of both of your faces. Those kids are having the time of their life and nothing is going to happen to them. Mom, will see to that. I am glad that you love and miss them. If you think it is bad now wait until they go to college or get married and move out of the nest. The empty nest syndrome is very hard to cure. So go into training now!" said Jerry. "You're right Jerry. Thanks we needed a little kick in the pants. Let's go in to Bend and see the play that the college is putting on. I hear that it is very good and funny," said Dennis "Sounds like a plan to me. Give me 15 minutes to clean up and I will be ready," responded Jerry. ****** Mom and the boys returned. "Dad and Papa, we got to run around without any clothes. Mom did too. All the people in the campground were nude. Papa, you are in trouble with your mom and dad for not telling us that they ran a nudist camp!" exclaimed Joel with excitement. "Grandma and Grandpa did your job for you and explained everything to us." Kyle was all red faced. "I am sorry boys, but I just didn't think about it. Did it bother you or are you ok with seeing people in the nude?" "We had a lot of fun playing in the sand. After a bit we didn't even notice. Can we run around without any thing on? asked Jeremy. "Only when no one is around and then you'll have to wear clothes," Kyle said. Joel said, "Dad and Papa, I guess it's ok for you to sleep without pjs." "Guess what! We already do. We just make sure the door is locked. Now we won't have to lock the door," laughed Dennis. One day, Jerry and the boys were cleaning up a pile of old boards and putting them on the burn pile to be burned later. Jeremy stepped on a old rusty nail and it went a long way into his foot. Jerry carried him to the house and hollered for Mom. She washed the puncture good with soap and water and put some antibiotic cream on the wound. "Jerry, get my car out of the garage while I call Loretta and tell her that we are taking Jeremy to Bend to see a doctor and why. She can tell Dennis and Kyle when they get in the evening. I hope that we will be back by then but who can tell." "Jerry, you had better drive. I think I will be needed in the back seat. Take us to the Bend Memorial Clinic and we will go to the immediate care center. They will have all of Jeremy`s records there," Mom said. "Joel, Loretta said you could come down and stay with her if you would like." "I hate doctors offices so I will go visit Loretta," said Joel "I hate doctors offices, also. May I go with Joel?" said Jeremy. "Afraid not, Big Buddy! It is better to suffer a little pain now rather than get tetanus and really get sick. It can be nasty stuff, if not taken care of properly. I'll make you a deal. You get a shot and I will yell real loud for you," said Jerry grinning. "That still won't stop it from hurting." "No, but it will sure will make me feel better,' said Jerry. "Jerry, how about you get the shot and I will do the yelling. "If you can convenience the doctor to do that then I am game," chuckle Jerry. Later in the doctors office, "Jerry, I am not going to go in there unless you and Mom are with me," Jeremy said crying. "Hey, Big Buddy, I go in with you. I'll hold one hand and Mom can hold the other." said Jerry almost in tears himself. "Good news, Jeremy, you are up to date with all your shots. That means no tetanus shot for you. You will have to have an antibiotic shot, however. Jerry and Mom, you are not as lucky. I bet neither of you have had a tetanus shot like forever. I think you should get one because around horses and other animals , you run a bigger risk of tetanus unless you are protected. I have asked the nurse to give you one, if that is ok." Both of them just nodded their heads yes. "Who wants to go first?" asked the nurse. "Ladies first," said Jerry. "Not so fast, Mister. This one time when men goes first. Roll up you sleeve and take it like a man. I hope that you don't cry in front of this little kid. Be brave, it only hurts for a little while." Jerry did as he was told and the nurse gave him the shot. Jeremy let out a scream that could be heard all over the building. "Jeremy, you almost scared me to death. I almost poked Jerry twice. Why did you do that?" "Jerry and I made a deal. Whoever got the shot, the other was to yell for him. I just kept my part of the deal. Mom, do you want me to yell for you?" asked Jeremy. "I don't think so, Jeremy. I am a big girl and I will do my own screaming if need be," replied Mom. "Jeremy, I have to give you a shot to deaden the pain so I can clean all the dirt and rust out of your wound and put a couple of stitches to seal the wound. I will have to give you an antibiotic shot to keep down any infection," said the doctor. "That's ok. If Mom can take a shot without screaming, then I can, too." said Jeremy trying to be brave. "Ouch!" said Jeremy with tears in his eyes. "Doctor, did I do good?" "You sure did. You only have one more to go. This one you won't even fell. I will give it to in you backside." "You mean you are going to give me a shot in the butt?" "That is one way of putting it but I prefer backside" laughed the doctor. Soon the doctor had the wound cleaned and stitched up After putting a bandage on the foot, the doctor said, "Jeremy, I don't want you putting any weight on that foot. In other words, no walking. That big baboon over there will have to carry you everywhere you want to go." Jeremy got the giggles and soon he had everyone in the room laughing. "Hey, Baboon! I am ready to go. You can carry me out to the car and we can stop and get a big milkshake at the DQ," grinned Jeremy. Jerry swooped him up and said, "Yes, your majesty. Mom and I get a milkshake, too. We got a shot, also." As they were walking out the door, the doctor asked Mom, "Is that the boy's father?" "No, just one of the hired hands. Thanks doctor. I think I`ll go round up some more victims, err I mean patients," joked Mom. "I wish all my patients were as much fun as you guys have been. Hey, Jeremy, when you want another milkshake, just come and see me," laughed the doctor. "No, thank you. I will just go without a milk shake," giggle Jeremy. When they reached home, Jerry carried Jeremy into the house. Kyle and Dennis meet them at the door. "How do you feel? Why is Jerry carrying you?" asked Dennis. "His name is not Jerry! It is now Baboon. I feel fine but Baboon has to carry me anywhere I want to go." "Only for a few days. Then you are on your own!" said Jerry. "What is going on and what is this Baboon business?" asked Kyle. "The doctor said he was a big baboon and that is what I am going to call him from now on," giggled Jeremy. "I guess I'll have to call you "Screamer". You just about scared that poor nurse to death." "Mom. I am afraid to ask what is going on with those two, so maybe you had better tell us." said Dennis. "Later, I made you an appointment to go in and get a tetanus shot. We checked your records and it has been almost a century since you had one. You need a booster ever 5 years," said Mom. "The doctor said it was very important when you are around animals." "If you act real big and don't cry, then you can have a real big milkshake from the DQ," exclaimed Jeremy. "Ha! Ha! Joel, I got a milkshake and you didn't because you stayed home," Laughed Jeremy. "Screamer, remember how you got your milkshake. You got two shots and one of them was in your butt." "Baboon, you got a shot in the arm. I bet it hurt more than mine!" teased Jeremy. "Why the name calling?" asked Joel. "The doctor called him a big baboon. I screamed real loud when he got a shot in the arm." "Why, did you scream when he got the shot? Asked Joel. "We had a deal that we would scream for the other guy and I did. Baboon didn't scream for me." "You scared the poor nurse half to death. I was sure she was going to have an heart attack," laughed Jerry. "Mom, I don't think we can't let those two go to the doctor at the same time. One can get into enough trouble by himself. He doesn't need to have his buddy to help him," said Kyle. "Oh, I don't know. I bet the doctor is still laughing!" said Mom and stated laughing. "Joel, we have job to complete down by the barn. If we start now maybe we can get it done before dark," said Jerry. "Jerry and Joel started out the door, "Hey, Baboon! Would you carry me into the computer room? Please!" pleaded Jeremy. "Go ahead and I'll carry him in," said Dennis. "No, the doctor said he had to carry me anyplace that I wanted to go," retorted Jeremy. "Screamer, you know you are pain in the old kazoo. Climb on to my back and I'll give you a ride." "Hey, Baboon! What's a kazoo? Asked Jeremy. "That's were you got your shot." "Why didn't you say butt in the first place. Then I would have known what you were talking about. Thanks for being my horse." "Anytime, Little Buddy," Jerry carried Jeremy into the computer room and Jerry and Joel left for the barn. "Mom, can you believe how Jerry has changed. He just adores those two boys and they in turn love him and follow him around like puppy dogs. I am quite fond of him myself." said Kyle. "He is sure a joy to be around. I am real proud of him," said Mom. "He really appreciates life now and he acts like he found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow," said Dennis. "Maybe he has, if I was in his shoes, I'd be dancing on the roof tops." TBC
