Feel free to contact me with feedback at cmwp2000@gmail.com She had to make it a destination wedding, I thought. My sister is getting married and decided to send us all to California, where her soon to be brother in law owned a vineyard in Napa Valley. He had graciously indulged her wish to use his property for the ceremony, and in doing so cursed the rest of us to an unplanned vacation. At least he's letting family stay in his house, I mused, going over what to pack. The things we do for family. As I reached up to the top shelf in my closet, my hand brushed up against an unopened bottle of lube. I stopped and looked at it a moment. What the hell? Maybe I'll find a way to have fun on this trip. I grabbed the bottle and tossed it in with my bathroom necessities and continued packing. "ADAM!" "Hey Terri," I said, slightly exasperated as my sister screamed and ran towards me. "How was the flight?" "Long. You know I hate flying." "Oh stop, you sourpuss. It'll be worth it when you see where we're staying. And you'll have Chris to thank for that." On cue, Chris swaggered up to me and nodded. "Adam," he said in a curt tone. "Hello, Chris." He and I don't mesh. But, he's good to my sister, and she loves him against all odds, so I do my best to be polite to him. He turned his whole body away to face my sister and said, "Ter, I'll meet you at the house. Alex wants to plan some of the bachelor party with me." He leaned in towards her and kissed her on the cheek before walking away. "Wait, isn't that stuff supposed to be kept secret from you?" I asked, but Chris had already turned his broad, muscular back to me and didn't respond as he walked away. Ever the charmer. Terri caught sight of my face and glared. "I can see what you're thinking. Please, be nice. He didn't want to even come to the airport to see you, but he came because I asked him to. I know you're very different people, but he's trying. AND he got his brother to let you stay with us." "Well I didn't ask him for that. I'll be on my best behavior, because I love you too, but I'm not sure how much of him I'll be able to take. Or his brother for that matter." "Jesus, Adam! You haven't even met Alex and you're priming yourself to hate him. You know, I never understood why you and Chris don't get along better. You're different, but he's a good man." "Maybe because he's full of himself? Or that he's dumb as a brick? Or how every time he looks at me acts like he's talking to the scum of the earth?" Terri stopped dead and turned to face me. "He's cocky, not full of himself. There's a difference. And he's earned his confident swagger if you ask me. I'll bet you didn't know he's top in sales at work and is next up for a promotion. Which, by the way, shows he's NOT stupid. Just because he doesn't ponder all the complexities of the world doesn't mean he's not smart. Maybe YOU are the one who's full of yourself." I was taken aback by her sharp defense of Chris, and counterattack on me. She stood, glaring st me, and I knew I needed some damage control. "I'm sorry Terri. It was just a long flight is all. I'm here for you, and I'm happy for you, and I don't wanna ruin your wedding. I'll give this Alex a fair shot. Fair enough?" She smiled and turned to keep walking. "That's what I like to hear. Trust me, Adam, you're really gonna love his place." I sighed in resignation, and kept my skepticism to myself. I was already changing my tune as Terri drove us to Alex's place. It was early evening, and the sun was painting beautiful yellows and golds across the sky. The mountains were covered in thick evergreen forests, and the rolling hills with a seemingly never-ending expanse of grapevines. I wasn't speaking at all, taking it all in, and Terri had noticed. "It's really something, isn't it?" She asked. "Yeah, it really is. And Alex owns some of this?" "Yeah. His place isn't as big as the others, but he's looking into expanding. Business has been going well for him. I feel a little bad imposing right at the start of harvest season, but, look at this place! Can you blame me?" "No, I really can't," I answered. "I never expected this kind of beauty from a place that just grows a bunch of grapes." Terri laughed at this, but didn't comment, and I went back to appreciating the surroundings in silence. Eventually, as more of the sky had been overtaken by blues and purples, Terri started slowing down. "This is it," she said, as we turned down a narrow driveway. I turned my eyes away from the sky to look at the house. Modestly sized compared to some of the mansions we had passed, it was nevertheless stunning. Stone archways stood at every entrance, and the doors were dark, reddish-brown wood. The path to the entrance was red brick lined on each side with small flowering bushes. Terri lead the way into the house. I was eager to get to my room, so I asked, "Where am I staying?" "Adam! You can't run off before meeting your host! That's just rude. Let's go find him, I'm sure he's probably still with Chris." I groaned internally, but set my bags down and continued following her lead. I felt in no state to meet anyone, still a little off from the flight, but I didn't want to be on Alex's bad side. The last thing I needed was both brothers to be against me and be stuck in the same house as them. As we moved through the house I couldn't help but notice how few bedrooms there are. "Ter, is it just us four staying here?" "Yeah, everyone else is staying in a hotel in town. All the people helping with setting up are coming in tomorrow." I stopped. "So why am I staying here? Shouldn't someone helping you plan be here instead?" "Well...all the big decisions have been made already..." She sighed. "What, Ter?" She turned to face me and said, "It's just... I'm going to be joining this family. His family will be mine. And I know how much you and Chris dislike each other, but I kinda hoped staying here for the happiest moment of my life would get you guys on the same page with each other. Or, if not that, at least maybe you could make friends with Alex." She paused. "I love Chris, and I love you. I don't want the price of joining his family to be losing you from mine." I looked at my sister, saw the sincerity in her eyes, and my heart softened. She really does just want us all to be happy. "Terri, I love you too," I said, and moved in to hug her. "You won't lose me, I promise. And hey, I was being honest when I said I'd give Alex a chance. I mean, I can already say he's got great taste, this place is amazing." We pulled away, and she looked up at me and smiled. "Thank you, Adam. Now, we just have to find those two and we can all get to bed. You're starting to wear me out." We walked a bit more through the house when I noticed a light. We turned and saw the brothers sitting together on the back deck. Chris was sitting facing us, talking to his brother with a big grin. He saw us coming and abruptly stood. "Finally showed up. Did genius over here get lost or something?" Best behavior, Adam. Best. Behavior. "Oh Chris, stop, I was the one who drove." Terri answered. "I was letting him enjoy the scenery. It's his first time here and he was in awe." "You're falling in love with Napa Valley too? Well, you're in good company. Nice to meet you, I'm Alex." In my annoyance of Chris I hadn't even noticed his brother had come in as well, and was smiling at me, holding out his hand. I nearly gasped taking him all in. Jesus. He was a little taller than me, probably just over 6 ft. His shoulders weren't as broad as his brother's, but he was better balanced with noticeably thick legs, and arms straining his shirt. He was handsome as well, with large, bright green eyes, and a large nose balanced out by a thick, dark beard. I caught myself a split second too late, and reached out to shake his hand. "Hey, sorry. I'm Adam." I started to blush. I held his gaze, though, and smiled back. "Yes, yes, everyone's happy to meet each other," said Chris, breaking us apart. "Alex, is it settled, then?" "It's your party, man. I guess if you're sure, I won't stand in your way," he responded, a bit of reservation in his voice. Chris smiled with satisfaction at another deal closed. "Good," he said. "I'll leave the rest to you. Well, with that done, I'm heading to bed. Terri?" "Yeah, there's lots to take care of tomorrow, and I want to be rested for it. Good night guys!" "Do you know where you're staying, Adam?" Alex asked me. "I can show you to your room if you don't." "I don't, but I left my things at the front door. I'll go grab them," I said, feeling dumb for not just bringing them with me. "Point me in the direction of the room and I'll find it." "Don't be silly. I'll help carry them with you." He walked out ahead of me, leaving me a little surprised at his offer. Much better than Chris already. As we walked, Alex told me the layout of the house. He showed me his home gym and invited me to use it whenever. We arrived at a door and he set down my luggage. "This is your room. I hope you don't mind that it's a little small, and a little barebones, but it has its own bathroom. I don't really have many guests so I never really furnished it. I really mostly use it as a office." I opened the door to see a twin bed, a dresser, and a desk with an office chair in front of a curtained window. "I don't mind simple. And it's much better than sharing a hotel room with someone. Thank. You for letting me stay with you here." Alex smiled, and said, "Don't mention it. When Terri asked if you could stay, I was excited at the thought of spending time with someone my age." "What about your brother?" I asked. His smile dropped a little, and I realized I may have touched a nerve. He thought a second, before replying, "Not the same. Anyway, my room's right next to yours, so if you need anything don't hesitate to ask. Good night, Adam." "Good night." I watched him turn and walk down to his room, eying his firm, round ass as he moved. I forced myself to look away before he noticed, and started unpacking and getting ready for bed. Well, this trip is already much more interesting than I could have hoped for. The flight took even more out of me than I realized, and before I knew it I was crashing, falling asleep quickly in my borrowed bed. BZZ. BZZZZZZZ. BZZZZZ. The sounds of a mechanical saw tearing through wood woke me from sleep. What time is it? I thought, and reached around for my phone. With eyes half-open, I woke the device and saw the time- 11:41. I groaned. I never sleep this late. I got up and saw the source of the sound through the window. Someone was working on a wooden archway for the ceremony, and Terri was moving around making plans. I could hear sounds from inside the house as well, in between noise of the saw. Wedding planning in full swing. I stretched, feeling a bit stiff, and remembered that Alex offered to let me use his home gym. I changed into a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt, and left the room. I made it to the home gym without running into anyone. I looked around and saw a treadmill, bench set, some free weights, a pull-up bar, and a long mirror along the wall. I always enjoyed running alone as it allowed me to let my thoughts settle as a focused on keeping my pace, so I opted for the treadmill. Only a few minutes had gone by when the door opened. I turned to look and saw Alex walk in. He was wearing a tight white tank top and blue basketball shorts. Both left very little to the imagination- the tank top hugged his body closely, revealing the curves of his abs. The neck line was very low, exposing the top half of his hairy chest, and his thick, powerful arms were on full display. His shorts betrayed the fact that he must be freeballing, as his bulge was very obvious. I didn't have to look hard to see the head of his cock sliding around by his thigh. "Oh, hey Adam," Alex said, bringing me back to focus. "We were all wondering when you'd be up." "Hey! Yeah, slept a bit late today. Didn't set an alarm, and flying always wears me out." My eyes stayed on him as he moved to the free weights. Suddenly I realized the appeal of working out alongside someone. He faced the mirror as he started doing bicep curls. I couldn't take my eyes off him. Every muscle in his arms popped and flexed as he worked, and I started to feel my pants tighten as I stiffened in them. Fuck. I can't stay in here like this. I slowed down my jog and jumped off the treadmill. Alex noticed and said, "Oh, you don't have to leave just because I'm in here." "No, I was just finishing up," I answered, rushing out the door so he wouldn't see my raging hardon. I turned to head back to my room and BAM! In my haste I ran right in to someone. I was already apologizing before I knew who I hit, and when I realized who it was my face reddened and a knot formed in my stomach. "Watch where you're going, genius," snarled Chris. He shot me a glare as he entered the room I just left. I wanted to tell him to fuck off, but kept it to myself and went back to my room. Terri's idea was not working well. Being around Chris was only seeming to make things worse between us, but I was the only one holding back. It hasn't even been a full day and I need a break from Chris. Deciding to get some true alone time, I took a shower and changed. With no car, my options were very limited, so I thought I'd explore Alex's vineyard. Walking through the house, I dodged everyone I recognized and went out the back. When I passed Terri, I waved to her, but kept walking. She was still the center of a flurry of people with planning, and waved without stopping as well. As I walked along the property, I found myself gazing at the scenery again. It was nothing like back home. The skies were totally open, free of skyscrapers and planes. The feeling of being truly alone was a freedom I never had before. It wasn't to last, though, as I heard someone yelling my name. I took my gaze from the sky to see Alex running towards me. Oh shit, he probably doesn't want me out here alone. "Adam! I wanted to find you after my workout but everyone said you practically ran from the house. Terri said you went this way, what are you doing?" "I just wanted some alone time is all. Is it okay that I'm out here?" I studied his face and I didn't see frustration or anger in his eyes, only concern. "Ah, I get you. It's part of what drew me to start my business here." He smiled at me and said, "Well, if you want to be alone, I won't disturb you. Just don't touch the merchandise," and he laughed, indicating the abundant grapes. "Well, I was mostly trying to get away from some ONE in particular," I said before I could stop myself. You're talking about his BROTHER, you don't know how close they are! Alex's face grew serious. "Chris isn't you biggest fan. He was telling me about you before you got here. When he and Terri asked if you could stay here, I could tell he had reservations. He seems to think you'll be a bad influence on me or something." Alex frowned, and continued. "He's always been hard on me, even when we were kids. Always bossing me around. Sometimes it felt like I had three parents. But I know it's just because he was looking out for me." He almost looked like he wanted to say more, but he stopped. He looked at me quizzically. "I don't see what he has against you so bad. You've been perfectly fine so far." I blushed slightly, and decided to be honest. "I've never gotten along with the macho `alpha male' type. Bad experiences with them growing up. Mostly with them hitting me. And I may have stereotyped him from the day we met, thinking he's just a dumb brute, and treating him like one." "HAH! The best way to piss off Chris is to treat him like he's stupid. You can thank me for that. I always got better grades than him, and my parents ushered me into college and forced a finance degree down my throat, bragging to anyone who'd listen about how smart I am. They were hard on both of us, really. They wanted two good little obedient Catholic sons. Chris got the brunt of that, being the older brother." I was surprised Alex was opening up to me so much, but I wanted to know more. "Is that why you ended up here?" He laughed again. "I guess so, yeah. This is my own little rebellion. I hated my job. It got really bad at one point, so I took all my savings and bought this vineyard here. We had been here on vacation once and I remembered how open and free it felt out here. I was desperate for that feeling again, so I took the risk. I've never felt better, and it's paying off in the money department now, too. Guess those years in finance weren't a total waste." "Sounds like a happy ending if I've ever heard one," I said. "It all worked out for the best, right?" His face fell. Again, he looked like he wanted to say something, but was stopping himself. "A-anyway, we should probably head back before they think we got lost out here," I said, moving to walk back. "Wait. Do you mind walking some more with me? I've made you listen to me all this time, when all you wanted was some quiet time away from everyone. I'm not really ready to go back, but we could walk in silence if you like?" I was a little surprised at this request. He loves it here, but he must get lonely. "Sure, I cool with a nice quiet walk. And I won't even touch the merchandise." He looked at me and I winked, making him laugh again as we began to walk. We mostly kept to our promise of silence, but here and there we'd talk some. He asked me about my job as a graphic designer. I told him about my blog where I write reviews and critiques. It was a quiet moment when I looked up and saw the evening sky starting to appear again. Wow, it had gotten that late? Alex noticed my gaze and realized the time as well, so we made our way back to the house. As we approached, we could see into the house. There was Chris, alone, arms folded and pacing. Everyone else had gone. What's his problem now? I looked at Alex, about to ask him if he knew what was up, and his face had gone pale. "I forgot. His bachelor party is starting soon, and I said I'd drive him." "Drive him? Where is this party? I assumed it'd be here." Alex sighed. "We're going to a strip club in town." "WE'RE DOING WHAT?" We were close enough now that Chris heard my outburst, and stormed to the back door. "HEY! Where have you been Alex?! We should have left 20 minutes ago! And what are you doing with HIM?" He pointed angrily at me. "We were walking, okay? I just lost track of time." Chris was plainly annoyed. "Look, you and Adam can just go out to the car. All your friends know the place and are meeting us there, I'll be ready in a second, I just need to grab my wallet." Alex went into the house and off to his room, and Chris and I went out the front to wait by his car. "A strip club? I can't believe this is what we're doing for your party," I said to him. "It's just for a night of fun," Chris said. "I know it's not your thing, so you don't have to come, but choose quick." I thought a moment, but I again remembered my promise to try and bridge the gap with Chris. "No, I'm coming," I said, just as Alex came through the door. "Alright, let's go," Alex said, and we piled into the car and sped off. The drive into town was a different kind of quiet. I was still angry, but keeping it to myself, Chris was excited, no doubt imagining all the boobs he'd get to see, and Alex was a mystery, clearly uncomfortable but also not speaking. He was speeding, but I couldn't tell if that was on account of us being late or wanting the awkward drive to be over. It wasn't long before we were at the strip club, and I was already wishing for it to be over. Once inside, Chris wasted no time heading to the private suite, meeting up with his friends. I walked through the door to see a stage with a small walkway. At the end of it was a woman, contorting herself on a pole. The walkway was ringed with seats, mostly full of Chris's friends, all staring up at the long haired woman. Chris had already taken his seat at the end of the walkway, and a topless woman with tassels on her nipples was serving him a large drink. The women held nothing for me, but there was an unmistakable feel of sex in the air, and the thought of all these men with their hard cocks was starting to turn me on. I remembered Alex this morning, with his revealing shorts this morning, and imagined what he could look like aroused. I looked, and he had already taken the seat closest to the door, and the only other open seat was on the other side of the walkway. Figures. I sighed, and made my way over to sit. I was spared having to make small talk with anyone, as everyone had already had a few drinks and they only had eyes for the topless woman on stage. Her moves were impressive, and I was willing to bet she didn't get enough credit for the work she put into the show. I tried to move to get Alex better in my view when the tasseled woman stepped in front of me. "Drink, honey?" she asked, and bounced her chest in front of me. "No, thanks," I said, and tried to crane around her. "Are you sure sweetie? I'm know I've got something you'll love," and this time she put a hand on her boob, squeezing and rubbing it. "I'm not interested," I replied, more firmly this time. She shrugged and moved on, finally taking the hint. My view clear, I turned to look at Alex, but his seat was empty. Wait, what? I looked around the room, but he wasn't here. I did notice, however, that Chris's seat was empty, too. Where could they have gone? I left the room to try to find them. The only person around was a woman walking past. "Excuse me!" I yelled, and she turned to me. "Sorry, I'm off right now," she responded nicely, but firmly. "No, not that. I wanted to ask if you saw two guys just now?" "Guys? Are you lost? You're in the wrong place if you're looking for men," she answered in an almost mocking tone. "Not strippers. Patrons. One of them shorter than me, thick build. The other taller with a beard." "Oh! Yeah, I did see a couple of guys like that. The shorter one was practically dragging the taller guy. They were going to the men's room." Confused now, I asked "...together?" "Yeah. Huh. Maybe it's not the wrong place to find a man tonight," and she laughed and walked away. What are they doing in the men's room together? I wondered. My instinct was to leave them alone, as I imagined for a split second the possibility that the leaving stripper was right. Then I scoffed. Yeah right. Chris, King of the Bros is as straight as they get. Having dispelled this thought, I resolved to find out what was up, and moved for the bathroom. I opened the door slowly, and heard muttering coming from the back stall. I could see the top of Alex's thick black hair poking over the top of the stall. I could only just make out what they were saying, so I quietly went to the urinal closest to them to listen in. "You can stop lecturing me on how to have fun, or did you forget I sell wine for a living?" Alex said, annoyed. "And yet you aren't drinking. What is up with you?" said Chris, accusation in his tone. Alex sighed, "I'm the one driving, and I don't feel like getting in a car crash tonight of all nights. Besides, I saw you with that server. She practically had to slap your hand away. I knew this was a bad idea." Chris was angry now. "Adam? Since when does what that queen think matter to you?" I winced at the word, as flashbacks of high school beatings came back to me. "Queen? Adam's gay?" Alex asked quietly. "Yeah. He's gay. You can't tell? He was practically drooling on you last night. And then today, the guy was raging hard when he left your gym. He ran right into me, I felt it." That brought me back, and now I was blushing. "What...?" Alex responded, this time so quietly I could barely hear him. "Then after that he practically kidnapped you for the whole day! He- ...no. NO. That SICK FUCK. I'M GONNA BEAT HIM." "What?! What's wrong!" Alex asked in a panic. "HE'S TRYING TO CONVERT YOU. He's here at MY wedding and he's trying to turn my brother gay. We're gonna go get him RIGHT NOW. I'll knock him down, you get on top of him and we'll kick his ass together!" The idea of Alex on top of me turned me on despite the situation, but fear took over and I jumped to get out before they left the stall. But I was too late, I heard the door open behind me and Chris yelled. "YOU! What the FUCK are you doing in here?!" He ran forward with a fist raised. I had nowhere to move, so I closed my eyes and braced myself for the hit, but it didn't come. I opened my eyes to see Chris, barely restrained, as Alex held him from behind. Chris was a sight of pure rage, his face red and screaming. "What are you doing?! Get out of here!" Alex yelled, anger in his eyes, too. This time I didn't hesitate, and I ran. I ran out of the bathroom, out of the club, and out onto the street. I need to get out of here. I never should have come in the first place. I kept running, looking for a taxi. It was two blocks before I found one and got it to stop. I got in, gave the driver the address, and added, "Here's a fifty to drive as fast as you can." "Running from the cops?" he asked, and took the cash from me. "No. Worse. Please, just drive!" "Hmph. Well, I've had worse requests," the driver responded, and sped off. The driver made better time than Alex did getting us into town. I thanked him, paid for the ride, and ran into the house. Terri's wasn't back from her party yet, so the house was empty. I made it to my room, locked the door behind me, and started packing up my things. What can I tell Terri? I thought. "Hey, sorry, I need to leave, your future husband wants to beat me to death? Also he's a massive homophobe so maybe don't marry him? I cringed. I knew how much she loved him, and I hated the thought of ruining her wedding. No. That can wait. I'll just tell her they need me at work. She'll understand that, won't she? Suddenly, I heard Alex's voice yelling "ADAM! Where are you!" Fuck! How did he get back so fast?! BANG BANG BANG "Adam! Open the door!" "Uhh..I can't, I'm not feeling well, I'm just gonna get to bed!" I lied. "OPEN. UP." I didn't respond, and after a second I heard his footsteps leave. Fuck fuck fuck. What am I gonna do? I didn't have any more time to think, because I heard the jangling of keys, and the door was open. "Adam. We need to talk." I was almost shaking as I looked at him. He was completely disheveled, his shirt half untucked and his hair a mess. "What were you doing in there? Is what he said true? Do you have a thing for me?" Suddenly, I was angry. "Yeah. I think you're hot. I thought you were different from your brother. I thought you were better. But I guess I was wrong." I was fuming now, all the pent up anger I held back from Chris spilling over onto Alex. "So what, you wanna beat up the sicko? Kick the fag? Is that what they teach good Catholic boys to do at church?" The last words hit him like a blow to the face. He winced, and fell backwards, sitting on the edge of the bed. Uh...What? I slowly took a step towards him, my fear and angry giving way to confusion. "Alex?" He looked up at me, his beautiful green eyes a mix of pain, his own confusion...and something else. He stood, inches from my face, and, before I knew what was happening, his mouth was on mine, bristly beard rubbing on my face. In my shock, I almost pulled away, but he put his hands on my back and pulled my closer. The feel of his powerful hands pressing against me made me moan, and, encouraged, his tongue parted my lips. Kissing him back now, I put my arms on him to feel his powerful arms and shoulders, flexing as he held me tight. I was already rock hard, and could feel him growing as well. I pulled away gently, and looked into his eyes again. He looked at me intensely, and gone was the pain and confusion, only lust. I pulled off his shirt, and kissed his furry chest. I made my way to his nipple, gently sucking and nibbling, and he gasped. I grabbed his other pec with my hand, rubbing and squeeing it, and reached down his pants to grab his cock. It was thick and warm in my hand, and pulsed as I started to stroke him. "Fuck," he whispered, and his hands slid down my back, reaching down into my pants to grab my ass. I flexed them for him, and he slid a finger between them, brushing against my hole. I moaned again, and I wanted his cock in me more than anything. Grabbing his thick forearms, I pulled his hands out of my jeans and stripped down. When my cock, finally free from the strain of my underwear, sprung up, Alex made a noise of longing and was on his knees sucking me before I knew it. His mouth was hungry, sucking in the length of me with surprising ease. When he had me in him to the base, he paused a moment and moved his mouth around me, swirling his tongue along the bottom and rubbing my head against the back of his throat. He held this for a second, then he gagged and spit me out. "Sorry," he said, looking up at me with eyes watering. "First time." "Dude, that felt amazing, no apology needed." He grinned, and brought his head back to the tip of my hardon. I put my hands on him and added, "But I want you to fuck me." I turned to my suitcase, and grabbed the lube I had packed. Thank God for that foresight. We moved to the bed, and I laid down on my back. He moved close to me, on his knees between my legs, and I lubed him up. He pulled away, saying "Jesus. That alone might make me cum," and I grinned. He aimed his cock for my ass and slid in. "Oh fuck, Alex. Fuck me, fuck me hard!" He pumped into me, his thickness spreading me wide. I used my lubed hand on my own cock, jacking furiously. He leaned forward and brought his face to mine, and I wrapped my legs around him as we kissed. I never wanted anyone as bad as I wanted him now, and found myself bucking my ass up to meet his thrusts into me. "Fuck, I can't take much more," he moaned. "I'm gonna cum!" "Do it, cum in me Alex. Give me your load!" I was jacking wildly, barely aware of anything other than the feel of his cock in me, and I shot a thick stream up all over us. My ass clenched as I spasmed, and this sent him over the edge. He yelled out as he came, blowing it all in me. We were both gasping, catching our breath, when he laughed suddenly. "What is it?" I asked. "Nothing, it's just...you took real good care of the merchandise." And then I was laughing too. He slid out of me, and I was sad to let him go. He laid next to me, resting his head on my chest and tickling me with his beard. Reality slowly came creeping back. I looked down at him, rubbed his shoulder, and asked, "Wait, Alex...Where's Chris?" "I left him at the club. It's where he wanted to be after all." His voice was hard. "I told him. I told him I'm gay and if he hates that so much he can drive himself home. Then I left." "Wow. Alex, I had no idea. Are you okay?" He was quiet a moment, and I felt a new, warm wetness on my chest. Tears. "I'll be fine. I don't wanna talk about this now though, can we just sleep tonight?" His voice quavered slightly. Tiredness hit me at the thought of rest. "Yeah," I answered. "We can sleep." The next morning I woke, and this time it wasn't a saw that brought me back to consciousness, but yelling. I could hear Terri, Adam, and Alex, all taking turns with shouts, and I sprung up. Throwing on a t-shirt and boxers, I got up and ran out of the room. I found them in the living room, arguing animatedly. As I entered the room, Chris pointed and yelled "YOU!" I decided right then I wasn't putting up with him any longer. "Yes. Me. Got something to say?" "Adam, don't make this worse," Terri asked, rubbing her forehead and looking distraught. "Me? Don't make this worse? Listen, Terri. I tried, I tried as best as I could. But I can't anymore. Do you know what he said about me?" "Yes, she knows you're turning my only brother!" Chris snarled, disgust in his voice. "Chris, he didn't TURN me. I've BEEN gay all this time. I just had to hide it from you because I knew you'd react this way!" Alex was distraught as well, but holding his ground. "Tell me, Chris. You knew my brother is gay. And you know I love him no matter what. Was this ever going to come up?" Terri asked. I could tell she wanted to cry but she was resisting it. "I just thought of him as any other in-law. I'd put up with him for family gatherings. I don't blame you for it, it's not your fault you have a gay brother." "FUCK YOU CHRIS. I always knew you were an ignorant, small minded ass hole, but-" "ENOUGH," Terri yelled. "Chris, it's not ANYONE'S fault Adam and Alex are gay. They just are, and there's nothing wrong with it." Chris made to interrupt her, but she cut him off. "NO. There is nothing wrong with it, period! If I had any idea you felt this way, I wouldn't have agreed to marry you." This time she choked back a sob. I turned back to Chris, full of venom at what his bigotry had done. His face was full on shock. He could see the best deal of his life slipping through his fingers, and he didn't know how to take it. "Terri..." he said. The shock was wearing off, and his face was set. "Terri, I love you. You mean more than anything to me. So if you're having second thoughts, let's wait let's cancel the wedding. Blame me for it, I don't care. I don't want you to regret marrying me." Terri was barely holding back her tears now, and Chris moved forward to hug her. "Let's go be alone and talk," he said, and they walked to their room. This was the single kindest thing I had ever seen Chris do. But I didn't care. I turned around, and went back to my room. I knew Terri would want to be left alone, but I texted her, "Thank you for that. I love you Ter." She didn't respond. I continued where I left off the night before, packing my bags. "Adam?" I looked up, and Alex was in my door way. "What are you doing?" "I shouldn't have come here, Alex. All I did was tear up two families. It's not my business if she marries a homophobe. I should leave, and let them sort this shit out without me as a distraction." Alex came closer, and put his hand on my shoulder. "Could you try to give him some slack? We were both raised to think that way. It took me years to get over it. I might not have if I weren't gay." "How can you defend him, after what he said? After what he almost DID. If you hadn't have stopped him who knows what he would have done?" "Because I understand where it's coming from." Alex's tone was serious. "He thinks he's protecting me. Look, I get that you two have a feud, and now I get why, but he's my brother. I can't just give up on him." It was my turn to tear up. Am I alone in having a problem with Chris? "Got it. I understand. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be out of here sooner." Alex slumped on the bed. I looked at him and his face was conflicted. "I wasn't saying I want you to go," he said quietly. "I think you're right, though. We should give them space, be less of a distraction. Both of us. He really does love Terri, and I know he'll come around. There's a trail nearby that goes up the mountains. We could make a day of it?" I remembered walking with him yesterday, and it already felt like forever ago. I felt so light, being away from everyone, and I longed for it today. "I'd like that." And so we walked. And as we did, I became more and more taken with Napa Valley. The trail was surrounded by thick woods, and brought us to the edge of the forest for a great view of the vineyards. There was a tranquility here, and I felt like the problems back at the house were miles away. We spoke more than last time, asking each other questions in turn. And as we did, I became more and more taken with Alex. He told me about how the burden of living up to everyone's expectations of him made him independent, but took its toll on him. "Another reason to move out here, away from my family. No expectations to meet," he told me. I looked at him, and I was impressed of how strong he was. "If I had that kind of pressure on me, I'd wilt. But look at you, you're here, on your own, and successful." He stopped. "I'm not so sure I'd call my solitude a success." I looked at him, and he was looking down. "You could almost say I ran away from everything, and gave myself no choice but to do well." "We all deal with things differently. But if turning profit on a vineyard with nothing but a finance degree behind you isn't a success, I don't know what is." He smiled ruefully and looked up. "Thanks. It sure is lonely sometimes, though. And I could use some help running the place." He paused. "I know you've only been here two days, but I'd really get a lot out of someone with your skills. If you wanted to, I mean." "You mean stay here? And work for you? Oh wow, Alex..." "No, I'm sorry, forget I said anything. I was just being stupid." He started walking ahead of me at a fast pace. "No, Alex, that's not what I meant, wait." I jogged to catch up, and grabbed his hand. "It's just sudden is all. And I have my job back home, I can't leave them high and dry. But I do love it here. I'll have to go back as planned, but maybe I can work out working long distance." Alex beamed. "You think so? Oh man, that'd be great!" He leaned down and kissed me. "You keep doing that, and I might just change my mind and email work that I quit," I said. "Don't tempt me," and he laughed. "C'mon, there's a stream just this way I like to visit." It was evening again before we made our way back. We were both dreading it, both worried about our siblings. We had put our phones on do not disturb, knowing everyone would want to ask us about what happened, and the possibility of the wedding being cancelled. The mood was worse than I had expected, though. We had left before anyone found out, but now everyone was there, talking and arguing. We snuck in together, going around the back. As we approached, I saw Chris, sitting in the chair I saw him in the first night I got to the house. I wanted to talk to Terri first, and I was about to stop Alex and turn around, but he noticed us before I could. His eyes were bloodshot, and he looked weary. "Finally back? Good." "You guys get this sorted out?" I asked. "Not exactly. We talked, we both got real upset. We've been apart since," he said, and I could tell he was struggling to tell me this. "I want to apologize. To both of you." He looked at Alex. "I'm sorry. This isn't easy for me, but I thought about it all day. I wondered why you'd move all the way out here, Alex. I knew it couldn't just be that you were sick of your job. Anyway. I know I'm a hard-ass, and I don't get this gay thing. But I'll try." "And you, Adam. I'm sorry to you too. We don't get along, but I do love your sister. I can't lose her. And I figure, if I can deal with one gay brother, I can deal with two." Alex ran in and hugged his brother, who stiffly accepted it. I folded my arms, and asked, "Have you told her yet?" "Not yet. I don't know how to." I could see it pained him greatly to admit that to me, and I softened. "Just tell her what you told us. Be honest. It's what she'll need." "Thanks, Genius. If this works, I'll owe ya." I rolled my eyes at the insult-turned-nickname, but swallowed my tongue yet again and said, "You're welcome. Don't fuck it up." The wedding was beautiful, of course. Terri worked double time to make up for the lost day of planning, but she was even more driven than before to defy expectations. Nothing like a near-relationship ending fight to push a woman to success. I spent the rest of my time at Alex's side, talking and dancing with him at the reception. When it came time to leave, he asked me if he could drive me to the airport. On the way, we were silent yet again. I was sad to be leaving, more than I would have ever thought. We made it all the way up to security with barely a word. "I'm gonna miss you, Adam. How long again until you think you can make it back?" "It depends...I left them at a bad time, really. There's a big project we're working on...it may be a few weeks, maybe more." I sighed. "Well, I guess this is good bye then," he said. He was barely looking at me. "For now, Alex. I'll be back, I promise," and I wrapped my arms around his thick, muscled body. "Besides, times like these are what FaceTime's for." He gave a short laugh. "Yeah, I guess so. Well...bye Adam." I pulled away, as hard as it was, and looked up at him. "Bye Alex. I'll text you as soon as I land." I walked through security and closed my eyes, imagining his vineyard as I walked. I'll be back soon.
