He is gone, believe me. I am a bit like you with your students right now. I am staying clear, in my case, until I work through this. I am confused about a lot of things but I am working on it. It may sound stupid but I am getting to know myself." "Sounds very intelligent. I think I get the message and understand your situation." "Stephen, I really enjoyed tonight ...." "But?" Michael chuckled, "But I think that I am going to thank you for the scotch and I should be going. It is getting late." "Michael, I have enjoyed this evening much more than I expected. If at any time you want to talk or just be with a sympathetic soul, get in touch" He handed him his card. Michael didn't look at it but he did put it in a safe spot in his wallet. "When you sort things out and if you want a chat, some scotch, call. I never thought that I would enjoy this evening so much." "Neither did I. I need time." As he left, he couldn't resist. He gave Stephen a hug and light kiss on his lips. Outside going to his car, Michael wanted to scream, to kick himself. Did he do the right thing? Stephen was fascinating and more. Did he just blow him off? Possibly but he was correct; it was not fair to anyone while he was distracted and didn't recognize the man he was himself. Stephen sat down with another scotch and reflected on his reaction to this man. He had been attracted to him more than any person he had met since he and Bradley had parted. Stephen understood Michael's situation more than Stephen would ever realize. It had taken him time to sort himself out after the fiasco with Bradley; he had hurt several guys emotionally. Michael probably never even realized how incredibly kind and sensitive he was being. Stephen would have gone to bed with him in a minute, definitely the wrong time. He downed his scotch and went to bed with his friend, his hand. So did Michael. Present Michael woke up on Sunday feeling bereft with the memory of his departure from Stephen's condo. He went for a bike ride with some friends and then to lunch. He had a good time but .... He decided yet again to fall back on a solo trip to the club tonight. If he were going to be a slut, then it would not be with his friends looking on. Word would get around but until then .... It didn't take long that night. He met a really attractive guy, Robert, early on and they danced and drank. They left for the guy's place. Michael had come totally prepared. Robert suggested bareback but Michael, with his growing sense of his own needs and confidence, let the him know that he would leave. He backed down with good grace, 'Can't blame a guy for trying'. Michael undressed him and almost gasped when he saw the size of Robert's erection. He never really bothered about size but this 8 or 9 inches was interesting and a challenge. His brain also registered the thickness. All he could think was that it must be possible. While he was sucking Robert's balls (average in size), he caused him to gasp when he rubbed and stroked his prostate. He jokingly told the guy that he wanted at least four lubricated fingers in him and a half bottle of lube. Robert knew the drill and had taken minutes to stretch him and lubricate him. Michael put the condom on him, his first time with an extra large condom as they had used Robert's supply, and he jokingly told Robert that he would need a new bottle of lube as he used the other half of the bottle on the condom. He chuckled. Robert took a lot of time going in and was gentle in his technique. It was quite a ride. Michael left in the early hours of the morning stretched, sated and very relaxed when he woke on Monday and went to work. He threw himself into his work. It was not only a way of forgetting but on reflection, after his discussion with Stephen, he realized that it was interesting work and he had kept up with the economic world through his discussions with his fellow workers. Tim and he had a meeting at the pub the next day. The last days had cleared his head. He still felt a bit low but he was now seeing Tim and their relationship in a more realistic way. He looked back and saw that there had been little actual emotional closeness, especially by Tim. It really had been a friendship with sex. It seemed so clear to him now with the insights that he had had since that awful Friday night. He knew that he wanted more than that but what? He actually had no nervousness as he waited for Tim at the Pub. This was a business meeting to settle the contents of the condo. He watched Tim walk in and look around to find him. There was no swagger tonight. How do you greet a guy you had been in bed with 2 weeks ago and countless times over the last half year? "Tim!" "Hi Michael." He paused and saw his glass of scotch, neat, no ice as Stephen had shown me. "What are you drinking?" "Scotch." "Didn't know you liked that." "Had an interesting introduction to it the other night." He was being a bastard but he just couldn't help himself, just this one last time. At least he was somewhat subtle; he hoped. He promised himself no more. "Have you eaten yet? Why don't we order? We could get some food and a drink." That was what they did. Conversation was a little strained but they managed between mouthfuls of drink and food. The meal was over. "Tim, I have made a little list of things. It is not definitive so speak up if I have forgotten or I am off base." He took a copy of what he had done. Basically all the furniture was Michael's. There were CDs and DVDs, some electronics like the big screen TV which they had bought together. "Michael, I have being thinking a lot over the last week and a bit, do we really want to do this? I really do feel like a shit for what I have done." He almost felt sorry for him and he had prepared in his mind for this reaction. He decided that he had had his chance to say the nasty things last week. He had decided to be decent in any response to a suggestion like the one he was making. He had even come up with an analogy. So he looked at Tim almost in sorrow, "Tim, sometimes you break something. You pick it up and glue it back together and say to yourself, good as new. But then there are times when you break something and it shatters. No glue will help. That happened to me that Friday a week back." He could see that what he said had sunk in. He even suspected that there were tears very close for Tim. He said as kindly as he could, "Tim, sit down with the list. Send me an email with any additions or changes. Then if we are agreed, come over on Saturday or Sunday morning and we shall finish this." They looked at each other. This was the official good bye. With a few mixed feelings, Michael held out his hand and Tim reached and shook it. Michael even managed a sincere, 'good luck'. They left the pub, each on their own separate path. It turned out that the list had been more than fair and there was no haggling. They settled up a few days later at lunch in a restaurant. After the meeting with Tim, the silence in the condo seemed oppressive. He just looked around, muttered 'fuck it', changed his clothes and went to another club. He was getting fairly good at picking out guys or maybe they were good at identifying guys like him. Tonight he realized he wanted what he couldn't have right at this point in time. He wished he could go back a couple of weeks and be with Tim, not knowing what he knew now of course. There was a closeness and sharing and without knowing what he now knew, it seemed real and comfortable then. Is that what life was really like, an illusion? That was a very depressing thought. He threw back a couple of drinks and found some dance partners and lost himself in motion and idle talk. Tonight he picked out a really athletic type but he was different. He had red hair and he could see the red chest hair with the two buttons the guy had undone. It was sexy to him tonight for some reason. He also came across as very masculine. Tom wasn't subtle. During the slow dance, his hand went lower and lower over Michael's ass. He pulled Michael into him so that they could both feel their increasing hardness. Michael decided to stop the game. He put one hand between them and rubbed Tom's erection. Michael looked at him, "You have a place?" Tom said yes. Michael wanted to choose his time of leaving. Michael decided to take a chance that this guy would accept someone who was also masculine and assertive. They entered his place and inside the door he moved against him forcing him against a wall and rubbed his entire body against his. Tom responded with deep kisses and had Michael's clothes off him very quickly. Naked, erect and dripping, he grabbed Tom's package through his pants and squeezed. Just as quickly he had him naked. Really nice body and the red hair was a turn on. He fucked Tom vigourously and they both climaxed with a lot of noise. As they lay together on the couch, Michael asked him if he could go again in a few minutes. "You want to go again?" "Big guy, I want that beautiful cock in me." Michael went to get rid of the condom and clean up. When he came back, Tom was growing again. Seven minutes later, Michael was sitting on Tom's cock and they were rutting like two animals. He had judged this man well. Michael left at about 1 am and was late for work the next day for the first time in his career. This became Michael's life for the next weeks. Work, time with friends, movies, reading, work outs, a club and a pick up. The nights he went to the club with friends he eased up a bit on the pick ups. It all filled in the time but something was missing for him. After several weeks into this routine, he received an invitation from Paul for Sunday dinner at his home. His words were that he was having family, plus others, for Sunday dinner and he would like him to come. That was simple, why not? He bought a really good bottle of wine and showed up. He really didn't know what to expect. The group was large. Paul, John, Paul's son, Robbie, daughter in law, Maria, grandson Jason and girlfriend, Pat, James, Matt and Kevin and his partner Dave. How does a gay man have children and grandchildren? How does Kevin fit in? How does James fit in? So he watched them. There was boisterous talk, jokes, put downs, doubles entendres and serious topics of conversation. It was a mad house. He relaxed and started to join in. Paul and John had cooked the supper from start to finish. Maria had brought some hors d'oeuvres and there were numerous bottles of liquor and wine. He was almost overcome by the camaraderie and the fun. At one point he looked around the living room. His eyes focused on three photos on the mantel. At one end, a picture of a man and woman obviously husband wife; at he other end, there was a loving candid shot of the same man and a younger Paul, obviously in love. In the middle was a shot of the man, Paul, Robbie and a young lady about Robbie's age, together with younger versions of Kevin, Dave, James and Matt; it was like a family portrait. Paul saw him looking. He took Michael over to the first picture. "It is complicated. Brian and Margie, husband and wife, parents of Robbie and Jennifer. They were married for over 20 years when she died. He took him to the other end. My husband Brian and I, married 20 years. He died earlier this year. He moved in front of the middle picture, my family; James is my nephew and Kevin has been taken into the family. You know their partners." Michael could almost see the tears forming in Paul's eyes. But he quickly caught himself, turned and looked at the crowd, "My crazy, complicated family." During the evening, Michael talked to everyone. He got in a few good digs, especially with Kevin, James and partners. He had a long talk with Jason who was just finishing high school and heading for University. He wanted to know all about Economics, Computer Science and Forensic Accounting. He asked good questions and was enthusiastic about the academics, sports and social life. Michael really liked him. Jason was intelligent and seemed to have his head screwed on right. Robbie and Maria were so genuine, funny and interesting. They were called to supper. Everyone was seated around a huge table. Paul stood up and looked at everyone squarely. "It is wonderful to have everyone here. I really want to welcome Michael who we were so lucky to meet. His patience and brains got us out of a big hole a couple of weeks ago. Just to let you know if you are queasy after the meal, that was caused by what John prepared. Bless you all." Of course, the place erupted with what dish did John prepare. I don't want it. Nevertheless they all tucked into a great meal. After the meal, they gave Michael a very good bottle of scotch as he had been talking with them about his discovery of scotch. He left both high but feeling flat. The evening was almost like his discovery of Tim's extracurricular activities; it focused his thoughts and made him see things differently. He knew that Paul's family didn't just pop up. It grew. He realized that his life style right now would never produce the results that he wanted. Shit. What to do? He went to work on Monday with thoughts flooding through his brain. Luckily, he had a fascinating case and it focused him on that part of his reality. When he was home that night, he had supper and realized just how horny he felt. OK that had to be part of the equation. He went back to the club where he had first met Jack, his first sex partner after Tim's departure. Sure enough Jack was there dancing with friends. He spotted Michael and came over. They talked, danced and eventually the question came up. Michael agreed to go back to Jack's place. They both had good memories of their night together. He jokingly had told Jack that he had told him that he was the top their first time. Now Jack had the choice. It was strange but as Jack entered him he felt as if he were apart, outside his body from what was going on. Eventually he let himself become totally immersed in the feelings and sensations. His climax came almost as a surprise. He left thanking Jack again for a great evening. He felt that this encounter might be the end of his slut stage. He was having glimmerings of what he wanted. They were in the coffee room talking on Tuesday. The conversation turned to the ongoing financial crisis. Out of interest, Michael had downloaded several articles and studies that he saw as references and had been reading up on the topic. They had an animated discussion over their coffee and tea. "You seem interested in this topic. Michael, you should go to the lecture at the University this Friday night. Can't remember time, location or speaker but the topic sounded interesting. I am pretty sure that it is being given by the Economics Department." "Thanks Greg. If I have nothing else on, I might be interested. I'II go on the web site and find out the info." Yeah, joke, as if he had anything else to do. Later that day he had a little down time and he searched the University site. Sure enough, a free lecture on the micro and macro aspects of the international financial crisis. It was to be a perspective for the general public. He smiled when he saw the lecturer's name, Stephen Bourgeois. He had the time. He had a good week slowly reading the articles he had found and a few more references that the articles had led him to. He knew that his chances of meeting Stephen were close to zero but somehow this might make up his mind about contacting him. He realized after his shower and a shave on Friday at supper time that he spent more time than usual selecting clothes from his new wardrobe. He chided himself not to get his hopes up at all. The lecturer would be surrounded by well wishers and whisked away. He would enjoy the lecture and leave. He found the lecture hall and arrived about 15 minutes before the start. He chose a seat on a side aisle about midway down, thinking that lecturers often speak to the middle aisle and if there was a small crowd they would fill in around the middle and side of the hall. By 5 minutes before the start, he was surrounded by people. He recognized many of the guys in the first rows from the club weeks ago. The door opened on the side and Stephen and 2 other men walked in talking and laughing with each other. Stephen looked as good as he remembered, especially in the casual pants and jacket. One of the men, who turned out to be the Chair of the Department, stepped forward to introduce the featured speaker. Michael relaxed in his seat, watching Stephen. His eyes were sparkling as he acknowledged his students and then started to casually scan his audience as the Chair continued. Stephen's gaze turned to the side aisles. Michael wanted to duck but he knew that movement would draw an eye. Stephen's gaze reached his aisle and stopped. Their eyes met. Michael saw just a flicker of a small smile and the faintest nod of recognition. Oh shit, spotted. Michael didn't hear one word of the introduction. Stephen took the podium. His presentation was excellent, erudite, funny, filled with down to earth analogies and a very clear theme with accompanying data from a power point presentation. The lecture was well received. There were some questions and then an invitation to some refreshments. Stephen was surrounded by people, all vying for his attention. Michael realized that he had been correct; the speaker would be swept away. He stood up preparing to leave but he had to wait until some people moved out of his way. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Stephen hold his hand up to the group around him, excuse himself and start to walk up the aisle towards where Michael was standing. "Not so fast Michael Burtchell. I expect you to come to the refreshments and then a group of us are going to the pub for a drink. You will come?" It was a question but he said it almost as a command but with a smile. "Are you sure? I don't want to intrude with your students and colleagues." "I see them all the time. Would it help if I told you that I was hoping that you would contact me? Christ, it has taken long enough." He looked at Michael with determination. "You are not getting away that easily, this time." "OK, I'll come." His welcome was more than he expected. The refreshments lasted 30 minutes and then the group made its way down to the pub. Once there, he was introduced by Stephen as a friend. They discussed the presentation and the crisis. Michael stayed quiet as he didn't know anyone and this was not his group. Suddenly, he heard his name. The speaker was William, the young man from the club. "I am sorry, it's Michael?" He nodded yes. "What did you think of the lecture?" There was tone and an edge to the voice. Why did he get the feeling that this was not a friendly question? He wanted to give himself a chance to feel his way. "It's William?" Tit for tat. "Do you mean the presentation style or the content?" There was a little, self satisfied, "Both." "The presentation itself was spot on. Clear themes, excellent analogies and Stephen was able to take his comments down to the level that made it understandable to the general public which was the purpose of the lecture. Excellent presentation." That was easy and had put him in gear. The little bugger was not going to let up. "And the Professor's content?" He made it sound as if calling him Stephen and not the Professor was somehow wrong. He sensed that Stephen was going to intervene or say something. So he immediately started to talk. He had read a lot in the week and realized that he could bullshit as well as anyone. He was going to pull out his best vocabulary. "All of you will be more conversant with the most recent literature but as a layman, I found that his central theme was extremely convincing and congruent with his examples." He went on to explain what he meant by that. He mentioned that there are some other lines of thought and he outlined the ideas in one of the articles that he had read earlier in the week. It took a slightly different tact than Stephen had taken. He noticed that Stephen's hand was covering his mouth. Was he hiding a smile or a grimace? "I'm sorry. I am monopolizing the conversation. What was your reaction William?" William was stunned and could only mouth some platitudes about the crisis and the talk. The Chair intervened and made some observations about Michael's comments and the table was off discussing the economics of the crisis. In his own mind, Michael was just able to hold his own. They were on their second or third round of drinks and Michael could sense that the night might begin to wind down. In a lull in the debate, Stephen turned to him and quietly asked what his plans were. "I think that things are winding down here. Stephen, I have some scotch at my place. Would you like to come over and try some?" "You have scotch?" "The nectar of the gods, I have discovered. Neat, no ice." Michael saw a small smile appearing on Stephen's face. "What will it cost me?" "It will be strictly a free will offering." "I like your memory and your style Mr. Burtchell." "Here is my card with my address. Just for form sake, I am going to leave and you can join me when and if you can." "There will be no if. As soon as I can." Then out loud, "Michael, I am so sorry you have to leave. Glad you could make it." "Gentlemen, I have an early day tomorrow. I have enjoyed this evening ." He received very warm goodbyes except for one person. William gave him a stare that was not pleasant. Did he see Michael as competition? Yet again he thought that Stephen would have to watch that one. Stephen arrived 20 minutes after he arrived home. Michael over the last month had been on the internet and at the LCBO* and bought several scotches from the various regions. He had tried all of them and acquainted himself with their characteristics. He and Stephen tried several. Stephen was impressed by the knowledge he had assimilated. They chatted about the wonderful scotches, the lecture and the evening. At one point, Stephen gave Michael a quizzical look. "Michael, you were remarkable tonight. You said that you were an accountant." "We didn't get to details last time. I am a forensic accountant now. However, my major at university ...." "Was Economics!" "And Computer Science." There was a look of confusion on Stephen's face. "I loved the Economics but I didn't want to teach it or to work in it. I decided on something that I did like and have a knack for which was marketable. As it turns out I have combined the computer knowledge and the accounting into a really interesting and profitable job." "You impressed the Chair." He paused. "Michael how has the month gone?" "Good actually. I am on my own." "How did that go?" "I got rid of most of my nastiness in the first few days after I found out about Tim and then I felt a bit sorry for him and I was mostly civilized." "Why doesn't that surprise me? I bet you shook hands and wished him luck or some such words." Michael just shrugged his shoulders indicating that Stephen was correct. "How has your month gone?" "OK but it improved a great deal tonight." Michael smiled. "More scotch?" "I have to drive. I really shouldn't." Michael had learned some things in the last month, amongst them, more confidence and being direct. "You don't actually have to drive tonight if this evening doesn't end the way it did a month ago." He paused looking him directly in the eye, "But you can sip and depart and it will still be a wonderful evening." A real choice given and he meant it but there was an answer that he hoped for. "I see yet another side to Michael tonight. I'll have an Islay scotch." "It is Laphroaig, bold and satisfying. Good choice in several ways." He poured each a small amount and sat beside Stephen on the couch. They sampled it with accompanying sighs of pleasure. "Stephen, I thought about this moment several times in the last weeks but I still did some pretty low things." "Michael, I had a partner, Bradley. He left me a few years ago. I don't even want to remember all the things that I did. I call it my slut phase." "I guess I joined a club." They both took anther sip of scotch, savouring it. Michael decided on a bolder approach. "Stephen let's take another sip and share it." Stephen had the most wonderful look as he took a sip as Michael did. Their mouths met and they shared the salty, peaty, honeyed liquid with just that distinctive touch of iodine of some Islay scotches. When the liquid was gone, they touched each others tongues, just the tips. For Michael that was very erotic and romantic. Michael stared into those beautiful brown eyes that sparkled now with desire, for him. Stephen was the first to react. "Never done that before." The voice was soft and surprised. Michael could swim in those eyes. "Combines two of life's finer things." He took another sip and they shared again. It was electrifying. "Can I close up for the night?" "Michael, you really are a delight. You do have wonderful way with words. Yes, bar the doors." "Just for information, I was tested right after I found out about Tim and last week again. All clear but I still want to play it safe for your sake." "I too am tested regularly and I have gone through a bit of a dry spell after my last test 3 weeks ago. We can work our way around your caution." After he locked up and turned off lights. Michael came back and they kissed again. Both started to caress the others body, neck and hair. Michael became hard in seconds. His body was saying that he had been waiting for this. He broke the kiss. He stood up and pulled Stephen up into him. They embraced feeling each other's heat and hardness. Michael held Stephen at arms length and scanned his entire body, stopping to look at the bulge and outline of a nice erection. The thought flashed through his mind that he must be wearing loose boxers. He would deal with that shortly. He took off Stephen's shirt. Beautiful. Nice pecs with light covering of short hair, the same shade as his head. He had to run his hands through it. Stephen shuddered. The tempo picked up as Stephen almost tore his shirt off. They kissed again and when they separated, Michael directed them to his bedroom. It became fast and sensuous. Before he knew it he was lying on his bed naked with a naked Stephen on top of him, kissing. He loved the weight, the heat and the sensuousness of having his mouth invaded. Stephen was moving, rubbing their erections against their bodies. Wonderful torture. He manoeuvred Stephen off him, onto his back. Michael sat up and knelt beside him and kissed and licked from his nipples, down to his navel, stopping there for a moment. Then he ended up licking his thighs and finally his balls. Stephen was beside himself with lust and forced Michael to lie beside him and Michael felt him repeat his actions until he felt the tip of Stephen's tongue on the tip of his cock. Michael stopped and just indulged himself in the wonderful sensations. He then turned and started on Stephen's cock in a 69. He realized later that both of them must have just become totally involved with the sensations that they were giving and receiving that he almost woke from a trance hearing Stephen saying, "Michael, I can't hold back; I'm going to finish." Michael realized he was just as close. They finished each other with their hands, leaving a lot of semen all over themselves. Very little was said. Michael turned around, searching Stephen's now soft eyes and he kissed him. He got up to get a cloth and they cleaned each other up. They let each other know how intimate they felt. Michael spooned behind Stephen and they fell asleep. Michael woke up the next morning with Stephen still asleep. It was early, only 6:30 so he carefully got up and used the bathroom. He managed to start the coffee brewing when he heard sound behind him. There, looking at him from the kitchen entrance, was a sleep creased face with tousled hair standing naked. My god he looked great. "My first thought was that you had wakened and left again. Then I realized I was at your place." He looked down at himself. "Didn't know where a robe was so I figured after what we did last night, I didn't have to stand on formality. Any chance you could come back to bed. I, for one, have some unfinished business." Stephen looked innocently at him but Michael could see that Stephen was beginning to fill out. He turned off the coffee maker. They finished their business, very lustily but not in a business like manner. They fell asleep again. When they woke up, he could feel Stephen's fingers touching him, arousing him. Michael jumped out of bed. He was already half erect. "Stephen, don't look at me like that. Coffee and breakfast in that order. Up." "Oh, I like an assertive man." "Stephen, uuuup and I mean out of bed, up!" They both laughed as Michael threw him a robe. "Good coffee. Did I hear a grinder?" "It's fair trade sumatra, dark roast, ground this morning before we ...." He shrugged and they both smiled. They chatted like old, intimate friends. There was no stiffness or discomfort. Michael could not remember a breakfast quite like it. He could still feel Stephen's mouth on him and he could smell his scent on him. "Did you plan on meeting me last night?" "I had myself convinced that you would be surrounded by colleagues and people from the audience and you were. I was just waiting for people ahead to leave so that I could as well. I had decided that I would contact you this week." "How has the getting to know yourself going?" "I have realized one thing that you never really get to know yourself. You just pick up bits and pieces but sometimes you do sort out what you might want to be aiming for." "Interesting." They both paused looking at each other. "I did see that my life style for the last month was not going to lead me to what I wanted. I found out that I need closeness and that sex is not even close to being enough." "Michael, believe me that is a good start." Stephen looked at the clock. "Wow look at the time. I don't want to out stay my welcome." He started to get up. "It is Saturday and we could discuss your departure time, today and tomorrow and make a decision then when you are going to leave. We could go downtown and just walk around, buy some food and make a meal tonight." Michael had become quite sensitive to people's faces and reactions over the last weeks. He saw the pause and just a bit of a look on Stephen's face. Shit, he was going too fast with that suggestion. Don't blow it. "On second thought, you have things planned and probably have lectures and term work back home. Give me a call when you are free. This has been a wonderful time." He said it lightly but his tone and look said that he really meant it. "Michael, the last time we left each other, it took a hell of a long time to see each other again. I shall phone, soon." He raised his eyebrows in a question. They smiled and nodded their agreement. They would go slowly but they would act. *LCBO is the Liquor Control Board of Ontario which is the retailer of wines and spirit in the province. Author's Note There are two more chapters written.
