Route 66 Tour Chapter 10 Leaving the new house, we took Laura to the Best Western and checked in so she could simply go to her room when we took her back this evening. To say Laura was shocked when we walked into the apartment would be an understatement. "How on earth do you manage not to run over each other?" I replied, "You have to consider the fact that until recently I lived here by myself and it seemed adequate, but I couldn't entertain more than two guests." "At least you won't have to worry about that anymore," she said. A.J. and I agreed. "So, what's your plan for moving?" she asked. "I think the first thing we have to do is to put the furniture we don't want in the garage for the sale, then line up someone to pull out the carpet and pad and clean the hardwood floors," I said. "You can't do anything before you have room to move around," she agreed. A.J. added, "Don't you think maybe we should consider leaving the carpet in the downstairs hall?" That was a valid point. That was a fairly high traffic area as guests were received there; it was the passage to the back of the house as well as to go upstairs. Laura agreed, but suggested we think about replacing it with a darker color that wasn't as likely to show soil. None of us liked the off-white carpet that was on the downstairs floors. "What about the downstairs bedroom and office?" I asked. "Leave the bedroom as it is, it will help keep the room light, although there are 3 windows in the room," she told us. "I'd like for one wall of the new office to have floor to ceiling bookshelves, that are adjustable for books and collectibles," A.J. said. Both Laura and I agreed wholeheartedly. We thought there would be plenty of room for two desks if they weren't too large and also space for a work area with two computers. We decided to pull the wall-to-wall carpet out of that room, too. Looking at the house plans I saw that it wasn't going to be any problem to add a half bath where we'd discussed putting it, as water and sewer lines were close to the area and it was above the unfinished room. I called the person Doug had recommended about the floors, telling him that we wanted to remove the carpet and pad from the first floor except for the bedroom and that the floors appeared to be in good shape, but needed to be cleaned, buffed and waxed. He agreed to look at the job the next morning, so we made an appointment for 10 a.m. By this time it was 4:30 and Doug called to say he had all the paperwork completed, everything was done and the house was ours. He would be at the apartment in about 20 minutes and we could all celebrate. Laura wanted to take all of us out for dinner this evening, Doug included, so A.J. called him back on his cell phone to see if he was available. Doug said that his lover, Tom, had just gotten home from where his parents lived. He had gone to talk to them about moving to an assisted living facility, but had gotten a negative response about the idea. "Would he come along with us?" A.J. questioned. "Probably, but I need to call him, so I'll have an answer for you when I get to your place with the papers." We discussed places to eat. Laura was in favor of going to Southern Hills Country Club, where we had eaten the other night. That was fine with A.J. and I, but we had to make sure that was okay with Doug and Tom, as we would all have to dress for dinner. When Doug arrived, A.J. fixed drinks for all of us. I had already put some of the miniature quiches in the oven to bake so we could have something to soak up the alcohol. We sat in the living room, such as it was. Two could sit on the loveseat and 2 on a pair of lyre-back chairs. Any more than that, was impossible in this place, although I did have two folding chairs in the closet A.J. was using. Thank goodness we wouldn't have to worry about entertaining even intimate groups in the future. Laura proposed a toast, then Doug did the same. A.J. and I stood with our arms around the other's waist and responded, thanking each of them for the big part they had played in making this possible. They graciously accepted our thank-you and all of us touched our classes together. "Doug, is that was the fastest anyone has ever made up their mind about buying a house?" A.J. asked. "Almost, but not quite. When they put some condos in a new complex on the market about a year ago, one man came in the first day, looked at the model home and offered to buy that unit on the spot. It really took the management by surprise, but they agreed. Several different decorators and stores had placed all of the furnishings in the unit, so they all had to be contacted so we could come up with a price. It took about 4 hours to get everything figured out to everyone's satisfaction as he did some haggling with a couple of the places, then reminded them that they wouldn't have to come pick the stuff up if he bought it. By five o'clock he had written all of the checks necessary to pay everyone and had possession of the place. He slept there that night." All of us were amazed and said so. "But you fellows run a close second," he said. "Although the place has been on the market for three weeks, you were only the third people to look at it, and quite frankly, I didn't have any other prospects, even at the bargain basement price." Doug told us the previous owners would be in Tulsa on Friday about noon and he had made arrangements for us to meet them at the house to make sure they had everything they wanted to keep. They would turn over all the extra keys, plus the garage door openers and walk through the house to point out any problems they knew of with lighting, appliances or the structure itself. He then gave us the names of two contractors he could recommend to do the work we wanted on the bedroom and bathroom relocating a door, add the half bath and possibly build shelves for the new office. We could also talk to him about building the screen and platform for the organ speakers. By this time the buzzer on the oven was sounding and I pulled the cookie sheet out and put the quiche snacks on a plate and took them to the living room. Not fancy hors d'oeuvres, but they would certainly do in a pinch. I didn't know anyone who didn't like them. We discussed getting things moved to the garage. Again Doug was helpful in recommending a man and his son for doing odd jobs, although they also had several yards they took care of. "I brought some "work clothes" with me so I can help go through drawers and the closets and clean them out. We can take the vacuum and cleaning supplies with us," Laura told us. A.J. spoke up. "Grandmother, you don't have to do that. We can either do it ourselves or get some service like Merry Maids to do that." "Now, I want to help. I promise that I won't try to lift or carry anything, so don't argue with me young man." Laura had spoken. Tom was going to be able to join us for dinner, so it was agreed we meet at the club about 7 p.m. for drinks in their lounge, then have dinner. Doug left to dress and pick up Tom. Laura decided that she wanted to wear a nice long dress to dinner, so A.J. and I quickly took showers and put suits on. "You fellows sure look sharp," Laura said when we presented ourselves in the living room. We took her to the motel and she changed clothes while we waited. She had even brought a fur wrap with her. For a lady who was 75, she could have easily passed for fifteen years younger and certainly wore her clothes with style. "Talk about people looking sharp," I then whistled, A.J. joining in. Laura was gracious in receiving our complements. We arrived at Southern Hills Country Club shortly before Doug and Tom and were shown to a large lounge that was divided into furniture groupings of various sizes. Since there were five of us, we were shown to a love seat with three comfortable wingback chairs across a coffee table. Laura decided that she would be more comfortable sitting in one of the chairs. A.J. and I took the loveseat. She was right; the loveseat was low and not easy to get out of when you wanted to stand up. The waiter had just brought some snacks, peanuts, crackers and cheese and was ready to take our drink orders when Doug and Tom arrived. They were a contrast in appearance. Both were probably early 40's. Doug was about 6'1" and weighed about 180, athletic in appearance and tanned, with light brown hair and hazel eyes. Tom Forney was about 5'7", wiry appearance; short black hair, brown eyes, and probably weighed around 160. His natural complexion was darker, maybe of Italian heritage. They made a good-looking couple. Doug made the introductions and we all shook hands, then as we were sitting down, the waiter returned to take drink orders for all of us. Laura, A.J. and I had our usual Beefeater on the rocks. Tom ordered a Dewar's and soda and Doug asked for a Rob Roy. We found Tom to be as personable as Doug and learned that he was a partner in a computer company that custom built hardware for businesses and individuals. His area of expertise was the design of network systems. We hadn't yet driven past their house, but promised to do so the next day. They were having a cocktail party on Saturday evening and asked the three of us to attend after making sure that Laura wouldn't be uncomfortable being the only lady there. "Oh my, no," she laughed. "I'll get to be the center of attention." I thought 'how true' and knew she would love it! We found out that the six other known gay couples in the neighborhood would be attending, so this would be our chance to meet them socially. I could see that the area could be termed the "gay ghetto" shortly. Doug, Tom and Laura all hit it off with each other. She was enjoying being the "queen bee" in the middle of a bunch of other "queens" and I had to smile to myself. A.J. was probably right, Laura would be spending a lot of time in Tulsa and I, for one, would certainly be proud to have her as part of our household. I knew A.J. would agree. After a second round of drinks we were shown to our table in the dining room. I couldn't believe it. We were seated at a table next to some people I'd met at church. They also knew Laura and Doug. We introduced A.J. and Tom. They and Laura had mutual friends in Oklahoma City, so their paths crossed from time to time at cocktail and dinner parties there. Doug had sold them a house about five years before, three blocks from our new house. We declined more drinks, but A.J. asked for a wine list when the menus were handed to us. Our friends at the next table finished their meal and were ready to leave shortly after we ordered. We bid each other a good night, telling them we would probably see them at church on Sunday. "They are good people to know," Laura told us after they were out of the dining room. "I've known them for at least 20 years. They had just gotten married when we became acquainted and now their oldest son is in college. I generally see them about four times a year at my friends house." Our waiter this evening was Thomas, who had served us on Monday night. In his reserved fashion, he seemed pleased to see us. He probably recognized the men as "family" with Laura being the center of our attention. Each of us ordered something different. I had a hard time choosing my entree, but finally decided on salmon served with a lemon-caper sauce, roasted potatoes and spinach souffle, starting with vegetable soup, then a garden salad with their excellent house dressing. Of course, as good as the meal was, we were all eagerly awaiting the arrival of the dessert cart. The specialty dessert tonight was Bananas Foster prepared at tableside. There was no question about it; all of us ordered that treat with coffee. What is it about chefs playing with fire at your table that's so appealing? Laura signed the check as her membership at the Oklahoma City Country Club allowed for guest privileges there. We bade Doug and Tom goodnight, telling them we would see them on Saturday evening and would probably be talking to Doug several times in the next couple of days. He told us that he would be bringing the former owners with him on Friday afternoon. We were on the way back to Laura's motel when she spoke. "As a present to celebrate your new house, I'll see to it that you become members of the Southern Hills Country Club. I'll pay your membership fees and first year dues." We thanked her profusely. I had no idea as to the value of that gift, but would guess it was probably close to a hundred thousand dollars. Southern Hills was one of the premier country clubs of the United States and had hosted major golf tournaments, including the PGA. We might even have to learn to play golf to justify our having a membership. I had an ornery thought and leaned up so my head was between them. "Do you think we could get A.J.'s father to teach us how to play golf?" Laura almost screamed at the idea and I thought A.J. was going to have to pull off the street so he could laugh, too. She was laughing so hard I thought she was going to have trouble breathing. "I'm sure he would be thrilled, but you'll both be better than him after one lesson with a golf pro." A.J. said, "Do you have any idea how much he's spent on lessons over the years?" "I don't know, but it has to be like pouring money down a bottomless hole for all the good it's done him." We were still laughing at the idea when we arrived at the motel. Telling Laura that we would be over to take her to breakfast at 8:30, A.J. took her to her room and made sure everything was okay before coming back to the car. In the meantime, I'd gotten in the front seat. As he was putting his seat belt on, he leaned across to give me a kiss. "That was a good one," he said. "I just remembered what Laura said about him being so proud of playing a round at 10 over par," I said. "I don't know that much about golf and have only tried to play a couple of times, but it's not that difficult to learn to play, but you have to play regularly or you don't keep your form," A.J. said. "By the way, we need a couple of things from the grocery, so get in the left lane," I told him. When we got out of the car at the apartment, I remembered that we hadn't gotten the mail that day, so walked to the boxes. There wasn't much, but two envelopes caught my eye. They were from the OU Student Health Center. One was addressed to A.J. and the other to me. They had promised results of our HIV tests immediately as they had a new test vehicle which was speedier. After we walked into the apartment, I handed him the two envelopes. He looked at them, then grinned. "Well, open them," I said. He tore his open first, read the results and said, "OK" as he gave me a high-five. He then tore mine open, read the results, then slammed his body against mine. "We're both okay!!!" he said with a lot of emotion in his voice. "Okay!!!" I hugged him back and we exchanged a passionate kiss. "How do we decide who experiences 'skin on skin' first and the 'fucker and fuckee' role?" I leered. Actually, it didn't make any difference to me. I just plain enjoyed A.J. any way I could get him. "I don't care," he said. "Tell you what. Usually we just go to bed and see what happens, but this time I'll volunteer to bottom because I want to feel that fire hose going off up inside me and coating my bowels with that special love juice that you make." "Sounds like a plan. I'll try not to make you cum and then you can fuck me, too," he said. "No, if you make me cum from being fucked, that's fine. Don't hold back anything, we've got the rest of our lives to do this," I said. We went into the bedroom and each hung up our suits, then proceeded to undress the other. I loved his body and ran my tongue or fingers over each part as it was revealed with the removal of a piece of clothing. I received the same treatment and we were both ready for some quality time in bed by the time we were naked. We turned the covers back and met in the middle of the bed, lips locked together and cocks sliding against each other, lubricated by the precum each of us was producing. We'd had had sex that morning, but it was hurried and, although it felt good, it wasn't great. This was our night to celebrate a lot of things, the primary one being our love for each other. Soon we were taking each other to the edge and back, having even 69'd for a short time, but knowing we didn't want to get off that way. Just a prelude to a more serious venue. Finally, we seemed to sense that the other was ready. I rolled to one side while A.J. stuffed a pillow under my lower back. The lube was on the bed, but he worked the copious amount of our precum into my ass prior to opening me up with one, two, and then three fingers. By the time he was ready to replace the fingers, I was wiggling around on the bed, almost purring. A.J. gathered more precum from my cock by squeezing it, then milked his own, pulling the foreskin back and adding some saliva to the mixture. The next thing I felt was the tip of his cock against my pucker, then the sphincter reopened and he carefully slid in. "Oh, god," he moaned. "It's a lot different without a condom." "It sure is," I replied. I didn't think one could tell the difference, but I could. It was a totally different feeling than having a "latex-covered prod" shoved up there. This was warm and after he started thrusting, I could feel the action of his cockhead and foreskin moving back and forth. The fact that his cock was expelling more precum as he started fucking added to the slickness in the love tunnel. A condom wouldn't allow that to happen. We were both making plenty of noise and I was enjoying the gentle, but long thrusts in and out that his cock was making. He was hitting my magic sport about every third thrust and I could tell that my cock was getting harder, if that was possible. Of course, we had been kissing and I was rubbing his pecs, arms, back and face, adding to the enjoyment for each of us. Then I could feel the tingle somewhere in my groin and A.J. was also starting to have some spasms in his cock, either involuntary or he was trying to hold it back. The feeling came like a flash of lightning out of nowhere. Suddenly I was shooting cum between us, some even hit my face. The spasms caused my sphincter muscle to clamp around A.J.'s cock each time and it triggered him to join me on that high plateau of sexual gratification. And yes, I could feel the spasms of his cum. I don't know if I could actually feel the cum itself, except that all of a sudden it was very slick in my asshole and then he seemed to penetrate deeper than ever before. Whatever he did made it feel like my orgasm was starting over as there was even more cum. I wished we could have measured our output. It had to be a greater volume than ever before. A.J.'s thrusts slowed in number and depth. We still had our mouths clamped together and he'd given up trying to keep his weight off me. Every movement he made caused us to slide up and down on each other, a sloppy but exquisite feeling. Finally his softening cock slipped out and I felt empty. We were both panting, sliding around on each other. "That was absolutely the best sex we've ever had," I panted into his ear. ".was awesome," he whispered, as if he didn't have the strength to talk. We lay like this for a few minutes, kissing and caressing each other. We were completely covered in cum on our chests, groins, arms and even our faces. "We are a total mess, A.J. finally said when he could talk again." I wondered if I had as much cum up my ass as I'd put between us. Regardless, I felt more satisfied than I'd ever felt. This stud of mine, A.J. was wonderful. If we could do this 10 times a day, I'd never get out of bed. "Let's go shower," he said, pulling me by my hand. As I got up I realized that we hadn't put towels under us. We'd have to do that before we could go to sleep then wash bedding tomorrow. As I was waiting for A.J. to rinse off, I realized that I was looking forward to using our new shower - in our new home. * * * * * We certainly slept well that night, barely getting the bath towels spread on the bed before crawling in to wrap ourselves in the other and going to sleep. A.J. woke up first in the morning and being the ornery big imp he was, decided to tease me awake. It didn't work, as I had to go pee badly. Soon he was joining me in the bathroom, brushing his teeth as I took care of using the toilet, then we traded. "We're only a few nights away from being in our own big bathroom with the asshole-washing machine and whatever other attachments we decide we need," he said, leering at me. "You've got that right. Any idea what night that might be?" I asked him. "Well, the house is furnished now." he said, thinking. "I don't want to stay over there until at least tomorrow night, after the owners are out of the way and have agreed to everything. It just isn't right to sleep there until they are gone. We need to get the things we don't want out of the house and move some of the things from here, so I'm thinking it will be Monday when we move in." "I agree. A few days isn't going to make any difference and we need to find someone to move the furniture from the apartment," he said. "Don't forget the things in storage, there is dining room furniture and some other chairs and furniture we need to look at. Some of it may end up in the sale as it may not fit," I said. "And the piano and organ," A.J. added. "Yes, those have to be moved professionally so we can call the Steinway dealer today to see if they are available next week," I said. While we were showering and dressing, the one who wasn't all wet made notes of things to be accomplished We made three phone calls before leaving and had appointments to see each of them during the day, today. We dressed in Levis, t-shirts with an untucked over-shirt and Reeboks. We were ready to leave the apartment with just enough time to pick up Laura and decide where to eat breakfast. There were two places in the neighborhood, both on the corner of 51st Street to choose from. We settled on a place called Perry's. While we were eating breakfast, we finished our notes as to what was going to happen the next few days. Our first appointment was with George and Paul McConnell, who Doug had recommended for doing odd jobs. They showed up at the house at 9:45. Both were slender, but muscular. It was easy to tell they were probably father and son. We walked them through the house, pointing out the things that needed to be moved to the garage. A.J. also talked to them about taking care of the lawn, which needed cutting, although it was in reasonable shape. They had the equipment needed to move most of the things, but would have to rent a larger 2-wheeler than they owned. They were scheduled to mow another lawn at 11 a.m., but thought they could be back at our house at 2:30 to start moving furniture out. They could finish in the morning and take care of the lawn, also. Laura started taking the few things out of the various cabinets, china hutch and drawers, sitting them on the dining room table, beds and kitchen counter, depending on the room where she was working. George and Paul hadn't been gone more than ten minutes when Charlie Poole arrived. He was our floor man and could remove the carpet and pad today. The three of us moved a few items of furniture so he could pull up the carpet around the walls. The floors were red oak and in good shape. It would be easy to pull up the tack strips; however, they left small nail holes about every 5_ inches that were about a half-inch deep. He had special mastic that he would use to fill them. It reminded me of a colored patching paste you would use on sheetrock. His plan was to remove the carpet today, make any repairs that were necessary and then tomorrow he would clean the floors and put two coats of non-skid wax on, buffing between applications. "They will look like new floors," he told us. Charlie had a person who helped him as needed, so he called him on his cell phone. He was available and Charlie left to go get him. We figured that we could move furniture around enough to allow him to remove the tack strip and fill nail holes while George and Paul cleaned out the dining room completely for him to remove that carpet. A.J. had opened up the garage and was sweeping it out so we could put furniture and other items in there. I suggested that he go to the hardware store and buy some heavy duty plastic drop clothes to put on the floor and then over things as we needed to cover them up. I was glad I'd remembered to bring the house plans back with me, because Ralph Greene was the next to arrive for an 11:15 appointment. I was impressed that he was on time, but also with his looks. He was probably around 45; a big man; about 6'4" and I would guess that he probably weighed close to 210. He had a ready smile and hearty handshake. We discussed the alteration to the bathroom and bedroom, moving the door from the living room wall to connect them directly. There didn't appear to be any problem, except for the possibility of having to rewire one outlet as the new doorway would be where some Romex cable should connect that outlet to another one. Minor problem. The door would have to open into the bedroom instead of the bathroom, but we agreed that shouldn't be a problem either. I decided to ask Laura's opinion since it was her bedroom and bath we were talking about. "I probably would never shut the door anyway," she told us. Ralph studied the plans a little more, and then suggested a "pocket door" which would slide into the wall. The installation would be a little more complicated, requiring more wall to be torn out and a longer header to be put in, but all of us agreed that it would be a better looking installation when completed. The other problem would be in closing up the present door into the living room. On the bathroom side the wall was tiled. If we couldn't find matching tile, it would look strange. I suggested that we simply put in a full-length door-size mirror and leave the present woodwork as a frame around the mirror. I think I scored some points with Ralph and Laura was pleased with the idea. We moved on to the proposed new office. This was more complicated as we wanted a half bath next to the outside wall. This meant making an entry from the "back hall" and the room would retain a window looking into the backyard. The room would be very compact, about 5' x 5' but it only needed to have a stool and washbasin. We went downstairs to check the water and sewer lines. They were open and in nearly the right place, so it would be a simple installation. The only problem was that there couldn't be a vent pipe to the roof. That wasn't a problem to Ralph. They now made a vent pipe that could be placed in the wall that would vent the stool. Again, some electrical wiring would have to be moved and Ralph recommended that the bathroom circuit be isolated and put on its own breaker. There was space in the switch box for additional circuits to be added. A.J. arrived back home about that time. I introduced him to Ralph and he joined us in the discussion. We showed him what we planned to do about the new bathroom and he agreed it was a good plan. We went back to the proposed new office. There would still be two windows in the room and the door could go next to the bathroom door. We decided to use another "pocket door" in this room, although it probably wouldn't be shut that often, just to make the room off limits if we were having a party. The house plans showed that an electric line connecting two outlets would have to be moved. We asked for two new outlets on the new walls. The present door opening into the living room, of course, would be closed up. We discussed floor to ceiling bookshelves along one wall. Ralph suggested building them out of oak, stained a light walnut to match the woodwork in the room. They would be easy to build and he suggested that the vertical dividers not be more than 30 inches apart to keep too much weight off the shelves and prevent warping or sagging. We did insist that the vertical dividers be drilled every two inches for shelf adjustment. After our agreement on that project, we walked back into the living room to talk about concealing the bedroom door and the wall and shelf to support the speakers for the Rodgers Organ. Since there would only one door to camouflage, and it was off center to the room, it changed the location of the wall and shelf, which would not need to be as large as we previously thought. Actually, since the symmetry changed, we liked it better than our original concept of it lining up with the vertical center of the room. We'd have to sketch that out, but that could be done easily. The only requirement would be an outlet above the shelf to plug four amplifiers into and that the console cable be able to drop inside the new front wall from the top to outlet height. The next item of discussion was in having a moveable platform built for the organ console. It needed to have large rubber casters underneath, at least at the four corners, be approximately 70" x 70" and had to hold about 600 pounds. The finish of the console was dark oak. All the while, Ralph had been making notes on a large legal pad. When we finished, he told us that it would take him several days to work up a bid and that it would be at least three weeks before he could start the project, which would last about three weeks, too. Charlie and his helper, Blaine, were back by this time. He and Ralph seemed to know each other and talked for a short time while A.J. and I were conferring with Laura about the proposed work. We asked Ralph to break his bid out into each project so we could better track the costs and he told us that he would do that anyway. A.J. and I realized that it was past lunchtime and Laura suggested deli-style sandwiches and make it a picnic. Petty's Fine Foods in Utica Square was a little over a mile away. A.J. left to get sandwiches, potato salad, dill pickles, and chips and even stopped at a liquor store to pick up a bottle of Cold Duck. We sat at the round table in the corner of the kitchen to eat our first meal in our new house. We used the previous owner's china and wine glasses. He had gotten three sandwiches for us to split; corned beef on rye, roast beef and turkey with swiss cheese and ham and cheddar. They were delicious. or maybe we were hungry. We had just finished eating when George and Paul arrived back at the house. It was 2 o'clock and they had finished sooner than estimated. Under Laura's direction they set about moving furniture to the garage. They started in the dining room as three heavy pieces were against two walls and they would have to be moved before Charlie and Blaine could work in there. A.J. gave them the drop cloths to spread on the floor of the garage and to use for covering furniture, too. He and I helped carry some of the smaller pieces and table lamps out of the living room. As soon as the dining room was empty, they separated the seam and rolled the carpet up in two sections. They were heavy to move, too, and had to be taken out the front door, around the house and then up the driveway to the garage. While they were working, our neighbors from next-door east came over to introduce themselves and see what was going on. They were "yuppies" and introduced themselves. "I'm Michael Langley and this is my wife, Michelle. We introduced Laura and ourselves. "The people who used to live here stayed pretty much to themselves," Michael said. "We moved in a few months before they bought this house and we only met them once to introduce ourselves and maybe saw them out in the yard twice after that." "We'll try not to be so reclusive," A.J. said, me agreeing. "They started a big remodeling project as soon as they bought the house and it was about four months before they actually moved in, then there were workmen here for another 6 months after that," Michelle said. I took that as a hint that they would like to see the house, so invited them in. "I would have never guessed the place looked like this on the inside," Michael said. He was impressed with the large living room and the fact that it was 2 stories tall. Of course they wanted to know why we were tearing out the carpet. A.J. and I decided later that they didn't have a clue about the beauty of hardwood floors. They didn't seem to be impressed that we had them and that they were in good condition. Other than the living room, the only excitement they expressed was when we entered the kitchen. "Oh, wow!" Michelle exclaimed. "This is a great kitchen." The wall of folding panels between the kitchen and dining room was open, so A.J. demonstrated how they could be closed to make the dining room more private. That generated very little reaction from the Langley's. I was starting to wonder if the previous owners had been right in ignoring these people. By this time, the dining room was empty except for the pad and they made quick work out of rolling it up. Charlie and Blaine moved in there to work while the furniture was removed from the living room. Our neighbors left and I wondered if they were as unimpressed with us as A.J., Laura and I seemed to be with them. It didn't take long for them to empty the living room and A.J. saw to it that the things we wanted to keep were kept separate from the sale items. Laura decided to clean out the freezer and refrigerator and wash the insides, which really didn't need it, but now was the time to do it while there was nothing in them. The ovens were so clean we wondered if they had ever been used. Trying to stay ahead of George and Paul, we quickly folded the bedspread and mattress pad in the two downstairs bedrooms and made sure drawers were empty in the dressers and tables. Then we went upstairs to do the same job there. By 5 p.m. the house was empty except for the furniture in the second bedroom upstairs, as we had decided to keep it, at least for the time being. There were only a couple of things to remove from the basement and they were small. Bless Laura's heart; she had even cleaned the bathrooms. When I bumped her about it she said, "I clean mine at home, there's no reason why I can't clean yours." She was having the time of her life, being part of our moving experience. I walked back into the living room and about that time A.J. came up from the basement. Laura stuck her head out the bathroom door to ask for some help with the shower door, as it wasn't closing right and needed some adjustment. I decided to test the acoustics and wasn't surprised to hear an echo when I clapped my hands. This was going to be a wonderful music room. "Do that again," A.J. asked. I clapped my hands together, with the same result. That room had at least 15,000 cubic feet of space in it and the walls and ceiling were either plaster or sheetrock with an oak floor. Sound should bounce around just fine. By this time, Charlie and Blaine were finished for the day and told us they would meet us at 9 o'clock the next morning. I now had all the keys (I thought) so gave him a key to the back hall door, making sure it worked. George and Paul would be back tomorrow afternoon about 1:30 to mow and trim the lawn, plus talk to us about a fall fertilizer application. After everyone left we sat down at the table in the kitchen, about the only furniture left on the ground floor. We looked at the list of things to be accomplished tomorrow. Charlie and Blaine would be cleaning, stripping and waxing floors in the living room, office-to-be, hall and dining room. They would be there at 9 a.m. and could let themselves in. We were to meet with the previous owners sometime after lunch and Doug had our cell phone number so he could reach us at any time. George and Paul would be there around 1:30 to work on the lawn. We didn't need to be there for that. We were to go to dinner with Laura's friends in the evening. Laura needed to call them to firm up the plans and where we were to meet them. I needed to make arrangements with a mover to move the furniture in the apartment, but first we had to pack everything in the curio cabinet and book shelves, as well as dishes, etc. We needed boxes and newspaper as well as bubble wrap. Liquor boxes were wonderful to pack fragile things because of the dividers, some of which were removable. We could start that project on Saturday. I needed to call to make arrangements to have the piano and organ moved and hopefully, they could do that on Monday or Tuesday. "Don't forget to give notice that we are moving out of the apartment," A.J. reminded me. "Yes, I should think we'd be totally out by the end of next week and have it cleaned. I hope we can get our cleaning deposit back," I said. "That apartment is probably cleaner than 95% of those vacated, I should certainly hope so," he said. We talked briefly about dinner and I volunteered to fix something after going to the grocery store for a few things. "Don't even think of that," Laura said. "You fellows have worked hard enough today, anyway." "We could order pizza and make salads," I said. "That would be good, but I'd like to go have a nice hot bath, dress and go to your place for a drink, then out for dinner." That sounded good to me and I had an idea. "There is a woman that A.J. and I know from church. Her name is Betty and she goes by the name "Miss Kitty" and sings on Thursday nights at a nice little place called 'The Snooty Fox' where they have excellent food." "My god," Laura replied. "Is she still singing? She's a Tulsa landmark." "She is, and always has a good group to back her, too," I replied. "She will be singing tonight from 7 to 9 p.m." "That's where we'll go," Laura said. "I'm looking forward to hearing her again." We closed up the house and set the alarm as we had given Charlie a temporary access code, then took Laura back to her motel. She said she would be ready at 6:30, so A.J. was going to go back to get her so we could have happy hour. He took Laura to her room and was soon back in the car and we were home in five more minutes. "I've never seen grandmother so excited about something as she is about our house. It's almost like she's whole different person, someone much younger," A.J. told me. "I know. I think it's great and she's really been a lot of help today, too. She was doing things, like cleaning bathrooms, that she didn't need to do." "She cleans her place by herself, although I think she has someone come in about every 3 or four months to do some heavy cleaning, dusting places she can't reach and things like that," he said. We decided that A.J. should go through the shower first, since he had to go back to pick Laura up in about an hour. I fixed each of us a drink while he was cleaning his magnificent body, thinking that soon we could shower together. As soon as he was dry, we "cheered" each other and sipped our drinks. I realized that I was hungry and suggested he put out some crackers and cheese before he dried his hair and dressed. I was just starting to dress when A.J. left to pick up Laura and was thinking about what a great day it had been and what a whirlwind the week had been so far. and we weren't through yet. * * * * * They were back within 10 minutes and we settled down for our drinks and snacks. The three of us planned our attack for the next few days. Laura spoke up. "I've decided that I want to stay and help, that is, if you will allow it." "Of course we'll allow it. You have a home with us anytime you want to use it," I said. Since I was sitting next to her on the loveseat, I leaned over to give her a hug and a kiss on the cheek." A.J. asked, "You're welcome to stay, but what about your friends and activities with them?" "This is a lot more fun than eating lunch and playing bridge all afternoon." "I'm all for it. We can take Laura furniture shopping because the first thing we need to buy is bedroom furniture for her room and she can decide on the mattress since she's going to be sleeping on it more often than anyone else," I said. "And, we're going to need sheets, a spread and towels for that room, too, bathmats. lots of stuff," A.J. added. "Then you'd better get out your pad and pencil and start writing stuff down as all of us think of it, because we're going to earn our 'black belts' in furnishing a house this next week, although I want to take some of this a little more slowly and not fill up the living room too quickly," I said. We had a good laugh over that line. Since we were going out and this was the second drink for A.J. and me, we decided that we should head for the Snooty Fox. It was only two miles away and the parking lot had a lot of cars in it. I was wondering if we should have made reservations. I held the door for A.J. and Laura. The place was full, but there were several tables. About that time Betty spotted A.J. and me and although she was in the middle of a song, she pointed to a table on the upper level to the left of where she was standing so we walked to it. The waitress was at the table by the time we were. As I looked around, I discovered that the people at the table next to us were those I knew from church. And, would you believe that Laura knew one couple? We greeted each other, then sat down, giving the waitress our drink orders. A.J. leaned over to speak to Laura and me. "I can't take you two anywhere. It's seems like when we walk into a place you know everybody in the room." We all laughed. About that time, "Miss Kitty" finished her set. While her keyboard man was playing a great jazz solo, Betty welcomed us. She already knew A.J., and Laura reminded her of some mutual friends. She was thrilled we had come to the club to hear her perform. The way she worked the room, greeting friends and admirers I wondered if the restaurant had any business on the nights she didn't sing. The bartender made good drinks and although the selections on the menu were not extensive, someone knowledgeable had certainly written the descriptions of the entrees. We later found out they were accurate. The club had excellent food at a mid-range price. We visited back and forth with the people at the next table a little bit. I was surprised how many people I knew in this town in less than seven months time. Laura told her friends that A.J. and I had found a really nice house earlier in the week and had already closed the deal and were preparing to move in next week. Of course, they wanted to know where the house was and seemed to be impressed with our brief description of the property. The food was excellent as was the entertainment and the company of our friends at the next table. After Betty was through singing at 9 o'clock, the restaurant began to clear out and soon the two tables where we were sitting had the only people in the club. Betty, of course, came to sit with us and visit some more. She was a remarkable woman and at her age, still had a wonderful voice that fit the old standards she sang. We took Laura back to the motel and A.J. accompanied her to her room. We had already agreed we would pick her up for breakfast at 8:30. * * * * * Sex was wonderful again that night. Our newly found freedom from wearing condoms showed in our lovemaking and I think each of us was stimulated to new highs. This time it was A.J. who got the experience of feeling me inside him. * * * * * We dressed the same as the previous day and picked Laura up at the motel, going to the same restaurant for breakfast. Their sign said "Breakfast 24 Hours a Day" and we would have to remember that because many times we wanted something to eat after a concert or show and breakfast always seemed to hit the spot. Laura had called her friends and we were to meet them at the Tulsa Country Club at 7 p.m. By the time we arrived at the house, Charlie and Blaine were hard at work, using two large Clark Floor Machines to strip the old wax off the floors. They had a third person helping them who was running a wet-vac, picking up the residue they created by the old wax coming off. There wasn't too much wax buildup, but the floors certainly looked better after having been stripped. The first coat of wax was a high-gloss finish in paste form, applied with a special type of mop. After that had dried for an hour, they buffed it with the big floor machines, using a soft wool pad. The floor fairly glistened when they were through. The second coat of wax was also a soft paste, but when they buffed it, there was more of a satin finish that appeared to have a deep glow about it. Charlie explained what they had done and that damp mopping should maintain the rich appearance he had created. The amazing thing was that the nail holes for the tack strips had virtually disappeared. When he left, he thanked us for the business, telling us that he'd had a cancellation; otherwise he was backed up about three weeks. Were we on a winning streak here? It was decided to go to a burger place called Johnnie's on South Harvard. They had good, favorable, juicy burgers without being messy. A large order of crisp onion rings was enough for the three of us. While we were eating, the cell phone rang and A.J. answered. We knew it was going to be Doug and it was. We were to meet him and the previous owners at the house in 30 minutes We decided that after we were through at the house, our next stop would be to shop for bedroom furniture for the downstairs bedroom that Laura would use. A.J. parked on the driveway, but where the car could be seen from the street so Doug would know we were there. They arrived about ten minutes after we did and we were introduced to Bryce and Melanie Martin when they entered the front hall. All of us could tell that Bryce was not a friendly person and his wife wasn't at ease. We started on a walk though of the house, A.J. and Laura staying in the kitchen. The intent was for them to retrieve anything they wanted, as we had moved nothing of ours into the house. They seemed to be shocked that we'd had the carpet removed, but agreed the floors were beautiful. Everything of theirs was in the kitchen, on the table and counters. All furniture and accessories were in the garage. Bryce was carrying a plastic bag with the garage door openers and two key rings. He seemed hostile when he handed it to me, just simply saying "Here!" When we went downstairs, A.J. joined us and Melanie stayed in the kitchen with Laura. Bryce opened a cabinet door in the den, pulling out a large plastic envelope that contained owner's manuals for all of the appliances, furnace and other things, like the security system. I guess we hadn't looked in those cabinets. He handed them to A.J. with a kind of "HhrrrYYrrr" which must have represented his version of "Here you are". This guy needed a course in anger management and a personality make over. However, all things considered, he had every reason to be the way he was acting. We had gotten the fruits of his labor and perhaps his dream. Bryce briefly looked in the other rooms, and then tromped back up the stairs. Melanie went with us to the garage. They just stood there and looked and I think A.J. and I both were afraid to say anything. Doug looked at us, raising his eyebrows in question. Melanie started crying and headed to Doug's car. Bryce stood there like he was confused, then hurried to catch up with her. Doug shook hands with A.J. and me, saying, "Thanks guys. I know this wasn't easy for them." "If they decide that there is anything here that they want, let us know," I said. I felt really badly about this, but what could we do? When we returned to the kitchen, Laura spoke. "Melanie told me that Bryce had been fired from the last two jobs he'd held and part of the problem was his temper and inability to deal with those who worked with him. Isn't that sad?" "It certainly is," I said. A.J. spoke up. "I think he's a volcano waiting to erupt. He's wound tighter than a spring and is either going to have a stroke or a nervous breakdown." He went on to say that when he was working on his MBA they had to do personality profiles and one of the cases fit Bryce perfectly. Charlie had given his key back so we each had a key that fit both the front and back doors. We would have to go through the other keys to see what they were, but since there were only four keys on each ring, it shouldn't be too hard. We got into the car and A.J. started to go to a furniture store on Sheridan Road. There were a lot of furniture stores in that area so we should be able to find what we wanted. My only request was that we stay away from the two stores that had offensive characters in their TV ads. It was fastest to go north to the Broken Arrow Expressway and take it eastbound, although it was a little out of the way. We were in a good area for being able to get to many places in Tulsa in a short time. The first store had a big selection of both Thomasville and Century sets and also carried Sealy mattresses. We had no trouble picking a nice queen headboard and frame, triple dresser, and two nightstands. Although each of us tried them out, we deferred to Laura's opinion on the mattress. When we inquired about delivery, we were told they could do it on Monday morning. Not knowing what our schedule was going to be on Monday morning, we made sure they had our cell phone number so the delivery people could call us when they were on the way. A.J. wrote a check while Laura and I looked around. This had a nice selection of furniture, top quality and at a reasonable price. I knew we would be back here several more times. We went back to the apartment and I made two more phone calls. The movers could take care of moving our things on Monday since they didn't have to pack anything, except to wrap moving pads around furniture. I told them that there were going to be a lot of boxes with fragile things in them and they would be marked accordingly. They would be at the apartment on Monday morning at 9 o'clock. I told them that we also had a storage unit to empty that had dining room furniture, some chairs and other boxes of books and records. My next call was to the Steinway dealer. They would have two men at the apartment at 1 p.m. on Monday afternoon. He told me they charged $100 an hour and estimated they would be through in less than two hours. We left Laura at the apartment and took two cars to the big liquor barn near us to see about boxes. They had two big bins of empty boxes in the alley and we were told to help ourselves as the trash service cleaned the bins out every morning. We made two trips, carefully picking out sturdy boxes that still had lids attached. It was probably more boxes than we needed, but we agreed it was better to take what was available rather than come up short over the weekend, especially on Sunday. I detoured to Staples to pick up a couple of rolls of bubble wrap. When I made inquiry about finding old newspapers, I was told about a recycling place not too far away. Stopping to make inquiry I found that we could buy both old newspapers intact as well as shredded paper for 5 cents a pound. My car was full, so I sent A.J. back after I arrived at the apartment. Laura was ready to go to work, so we started packing fragile pieces from the curio cabinet. Many of these boxes would be moved in our own cars for safety purposes. We made good progress, and all of a sudden it was 4:30. We needed to get Laura back to the motel so she could make herself ready for our dinner date with her friends. A.J. took care of that task, telling her he would pick her up at 6 o'clock to have a drink at the apartment, then drive to the country club. He was back in about 10 minutes time and we decided to have a scotch and soda while starting to clean up and dress. "I can't believe how much we got accomplished today," I said, as we were standing with our arms around each other. The apartment looked like a disaster area with empty liquor boxes piled everywhere. I had put the lid down on the piano, then put a blanket on it so we could put boxes that had been packed there. There was nothing heavy, but we needed to get them out of the way. "This is going to be easier than I thought it would be," A.J. said. "There's a lot more to get out of the way over the weekend. Tomorrow we might move clothes we know we won't be wearing and start on the other things in the closets. Also, we might as well take kitchen items, pots and pans and small appliances we won't be using. We'll need to get shelf paper for the kitchen cabinets," I said. "I wish we knew someone who had a small pickup we could borrow," A.J. said. "We could rent a pickup for one day, but other than making it easier to load and unload boxes, I think it's a waste of time. You'll be surprised how much we can haul in a couple of car loads by the time we fill the trunks, back seat, floor and passenger seat. Besides it's only about 4« miles from the apartment to the house and seven stop lights." "You're right, it doesn't justify the cost," he said. "I wasn't trying to justify cost, but I don't think we'd use it for more than maybe three or four loads and then there is the problem of picking it up and returning it, too," I added. * * * * * By this time we needed to start cleaning up. I shaved while A.J. was fixing another round of drinks, then started through the shower while he shaved. By the time he was through the shower I had put on boxers and socks and was tying my dress shoes. I laid out my charcoal suit and a light blue dress shirt with a red, blue and gray striped tie. My stud lover came into the bedroom as I was taking my dress shirt off the hanger. I couldn't resist, I just had to kiss him and tell him how much I loved him. He smelled good and I realized that I hadn't put on any deodorant or cologne. I gave him a big, deep kiss, then said, "Hold that thought." I ducked into the bathroom to make myself smell better, too, then back to the bedroom. A.J. was standing there with a funny look on his face. I laughed. "Sorry, when I kissed you I realized that I hadn't finished in the bathroom and needed deodorant and cologne." A.J. had put on "Paul Sebastian" and I had some "Herrera" that I liked, but didn't wear often because the bottle was about empty. We resumed our kiss. A.J. pulled away and I guess I looked at him with a question on my face. "I'm horny and if we do much more of that, I'm going to start leaking precum and then have a mess in my shorts for the rest of the evening." "Can't have that, but we'll each have something to look forward to later, won't we?" and I wiggled my eyebrows and gave him my best leer. I started dressing while A.J. went to the hall closet to get his light gray suit and a green dress shirt. He chose a green, red and gray tie to wear with it. I must admit that when we looked in the mirror, there were two different men looking back at us than we'd seen that morning wearing Levis and t-shirts. I liked what we saw. We needed to have our picture taken together. A.J. went to get Laura and was back in less than 10 minutes but it was right at 6 o'clock. We didn't have time for a second drink, but that was okay because he and I had already had two ahead of time. Laura didn't mind. We told Laura of our plans to start moving some of the boxes in the morning, probably taking a load over before we picked her up for breakfast, then packing more of the fragile items and boxing kitchen items for transport as well as moving clothes we weren't likely to wear. There were two large boxes of Waterford stemware and barware to be moved as well as good china that hadn't been unpacked from my move to Tulsa. Laura could wash that stuff and put them on the kitchen counter until the dining room furniture was delivered and set up. It was time for us to leave for dinner. The Tulsa Country Club was just northwest of downtown, but wasn't the easiest place to get to for a first time visitor. Luckily I'd looked at a city map and saw that there was access from two freeways, but still wasn't sure which was the best route. However, we were still a little early. Laura's friends, Roger and Lillian Gilbert, were in the front of the great lounge, waiting for us. Their son, Kendall, was with them and introductions were made. We were led to a grouping of chairs in the lounge for cocktails. The chairs had been arranged so that Laura and her friends could visit and Kendall, A.J. and myself could talk without bothering the others. Between the groupings, a coffee table had been set up with nuts, cheese, crackers and popcorn to snack on. The chairs were very comfortable, high enough and hard enough that one could easily get up and down to get to the food. Kendall was probably in his late 30's and we found out that he owned a furniture store that specialized in antique pieces, and had his own shop for restoring and refinishing any furniture that a customer might bring in. Obviously, he was "family" and was very pleasant to talk to. He was most interested in our new home and we agreed to go to his shop the next afternoon to look at his furniture inventory. The bartender came to take our drink orders. A.J. and I had our usual Beefeater martinis. Kendall ordered Absolut on the rocks with a twist. We had a nice, quiet visit. When he found out that Doug Reynolds was our realtor, he told us they were good friends. I wondered if he had been invited to their party the next evening. We ordered a second round of drinks and I decided that I'd better start on the snacks, not that I'd had too much to drink, but the hamburgers hadn't lasted all that long. The Maitre d' came in to tell Roger that our table was ready and we found place cards for seating, I guess to make sure we mixed up the group to better get acquainted with our hosts. So, it ended up that Laura was seated by Kendall, A.J. with Lillian and myself with Roger, although it was still easy to talk to everyone at the table. Roger was an attorney, specializing in the oil business. He was easy to talk to, as was Lillian and we thoroughly enjoyed our time together. The country club had a very good chef and the food was good and well presented. Roger invited A.J. and I to join him on the golf course the next day, but we declined and told him that we didn't play. He was apparently a good golfer and an avid promoter of the sport. When we left the club, we thanked our hosts and Laura told them she was planning to spend a lot of time in Tulsa and would keep in touch with them. Kendall extracted our promise that we would visit his shop the next day. It was in the vicinity of 15th and Peoria where there were a lot of antique shops within three blocks. As we were going to the motel, Laura spoke up. "Roger and Lillian are concerned because Kendall has been dating a woman for several years and they don't seem to be any closer to getting married than when they first started seeing each other." "Oh pleeze." A.J. laughed. "I know," Laura said. "I was just passing on what had been said." "I wonder what they think about A.J. and me buying a house together?" I said. Laura laughed. "I'm not going to be the one to tell them why." "Smart move," I told her. "He said he was a good friend of Doug Reynolds," A.J. said. "Maybe he'll be at the party tomorrow night," I suggested. "If he's really a good friend, I'm sure he'll be invited," Laura told us. "It'll be interesting to see," A.J. said. We talked about the evening and the plans for the next day. A.J. helped Laura to her room and I got in the front seat. I wondered if one of us should consider buying a 4-door sedan since Laura would be spending a lot of time with us. It certainly would be easier for transporting passengers and getting in and out of the backseat. Soon we were in the apartment. "Hon, do you think Kendall might be queer?" I laughed. "Yeah, and if he's been going with a woman for several years, where was she tonight?" he giggled. We both laughed. I gave A.J. and tongue-crushing kiss, hugging him to me. "Still horny?" I asked. "Strange you should ask," he said as I rubbed his cock through his shorts and suit pants, feeling it getting hard. Each of us took our suits off and hung them up, then helped each other undress, lavishing attention on each new part of the body that was exposed. This boy was horny and so was I. and we both knew what to do about it. A.J. probably had been horny a good part of the evening, if not all; because when I knelt in front of him to take him in my mouth, I inserted my tongue into his cock-sleeve and there was a lot of smegma to clean out from behind his cockhead. I knew he'd just showered a few hours earlier. I thoroughly cleaned him out and stood to share the reward with him. He eagerly accepted it and we mixed it with our tongues before swallowing it. That was just the beginning of another great sexual encounter. In just the short time we'd been together, we had discovered many of the "buttons" the other had and had figured out the best way to push them. Tonight A.J. tried to reach one of my favorite buttons by teasing my pucker with his tongue, then inserting his finger, adding another one, then using three. I was bouncing around on the bed, enjoying the stimulation as he masterfully used his fingers there while taking care of my cock with his mouth and tongue; his fingers on the other hand were tickling my perineum and ball sack. It didn't take long for me to insist that he "put it in me" and he gladly did so. We were coupled and moved as one well-oiled machine, each meeting the needs of the other. He seemed to be hitting my prostate about every third stroke and I honestly thought his tongue was going to shove my tonsils down to where he could stroke them with his cock, too. I had never felt so invaded and it really had this guy purring. Without me being aware that he was close to an orgasm, I suddenly felt his cock twitch, then harden and could tell he was firing a copious load in my bowels. This triggered me as he had stopped and his twitching cock was hitting my button, turning it on. I felt like a quart of cum was trying to force its way through a small tube. Suddenly our chests were sliding on the other from the hot liquid lubrication I expelled. Both of us were reduced to incoherent beings, trying to calm down from the avalanche that had overtaken us. Wow! If we could only put sex like this in a bottle and sell it. It's a wonder that I didn't leave heel marks on A.J.'s ass; I was holding him so tightly. I don't know how long we lay like that, but finally we were able to relax enough to release our hold on each other. A.J. was starting to soften and slipped out. I could feel cum dribbling down from my asshole to my tailbone, so he must have really topped off my tank, to say nothing of the mess that covered both of us from our groins to our chins. Certainly, we needed to rinse off in the shower. This was a case where it would have been interesting to have worn condoms so we could see how much cum we had actually produced. After we were dry and had put towels on the bed, we curled together. That was it for us for the night. I wonder if either one of us even dreamed. * * * * * Saturday morning dawned bright, clear and warm. That was great because we had a lot to do and moving boxes of household items was only one part of the list. We picked Laura up at 8:30 for breakfast and went to what had become our regular breakfast restaurant, Perry's. It was kind of like a "home town cafe" and we figured the crowd that was there when we had been the last few days was there everyday. In fact, several asked us how we were as they went past our booth. Laura suggested that we get a rubber mesh shelf liner that could be anchored so it didn't slip. We went past the house to measure to see how many rolls we would need, then found what we wanted at a hardware store in the neighborhood and bought thumb tacks, too. I left Laura and A.J. at the new house and went back to the apartment by myself to load clothing in the car. I had a clothes rod that hung in the back of the car. I loaded the things we had separated out to move right away, took them to the car and then loaded boxes from the curio cabinet into the trunk and front seat area. By the time I got back to the house, they had cut the rubber mesh and lined all the shelves in the kitchen, A.J. anchoring them. It took another trip to the hardware store because we didn't take into account that there would be waste when it was cut to length. The three of us went back to the apartment. Laura went back to packing things that needed protection while A.J. and I loaded kitchen items, pots and pans, the microwave, toaster oven, small appliances and laundry items into boxes for transport. We managed to fill both cars, so took those two loads over while Laura worked at the apartment. We emptied things out of the storage, leaving only furniture and heavy items for the movers to handle on Monday. By the time were had accomplished that we were back at the apartment and I announced that I was hungry. Immediately two people claimed that I was a slave driver and it was past time to eat. Some friends had recommended a really good oriental restaurant that was out of the way for us to go, but I'm glad we did. They had several combination plates and everything was prepared to order - or if it had been on a steam table, it had just been prepared. We decided to go to Kendall Gilbert's shop and by using the Broken Arrow Expressway; it didn't take long to get there. It was an upscale shop with little that we were interested in. I had expected furniture made by Duncan-Phyfe, Sheraton and other early American builders. Instead, it was mostly what I would call a "prairie home" collection. Things that would have been found in homes during the period of 1850 to 1925 or so. Laura whispered to me, "We couldn't even give this stuff away when we moved to Edmond. I should have kept all of it, it's worth a fortune now." His cabinets were full of old shop tools, kitchen utensils and linens. A.J., being the history buff he is, was having a great time visiting with Kendall about how homes were furnished during that era. I simply wasn't interested in furniture like my grandparents had in their home and he had plenty of it. I finally caught A.J.'s attention and nodded my head toward the door. We thanked Kendall for taking the time to show us his shop and I think he was disappointed that we didn't haul away at least one truckload. A.J. hadn't even started the engine yet, when he said, "He sure is proud of that stuff. Did you see the prices he was asking?" "I wasn't looking at the prices. I was wondering how on earth we managed to live with that stuff when we owned it. I guess that at the time it was all that was available, but it wasn't comfortable to sit on a horsehair settee then and it sure wouldn't be now," Laura said. I agreed. "I remember the overstuffed mohair sofas with the crocheted doilies and the starched dresser scarves. If we wanted to furnish the house as it probably was to begin with, that's the place to go." We went back to the new house and Laura and I started putting pots and pans away. None of them needed to be washed as they hadn't been packed in newspaper, but we used a damp dishcloth to wipe them out before storing them. A.J. went downstairs to the den and pretty soon yelled for me to help him. He wanted to move some furniture around and needed some help. "Do we want to buy a big-screen TV?" he asked. "I don't know. I guess it would be okay. We don't watch a lot of TV, but it would be nice to watch movies on a larger screen," I replied. "Well, there is a place to handle a large one, if we do," he said. We really hadn't examined the shelving where stereo equipment had been. There were a lot of cables running to the area, but speakers in the front and rear of the room had been removed. "Look," A.J. said. One whole section of shelving had been designed to hold such items as a tuner, VCR, DVD, CD, turntable and other electronic components. The section could be unlatched, pulled out and swiveled, making easy access to the back were cables plugged in. There were also adequate plugs for power and we discovered the circuits were isolated. We also found the connection for cable TV. That certainly was a nice feature because one usually had to either use mirrors or practically stand on their head to get to the connections. Shelves on either side of the "entertainment" section were adequate to handle storage of LP's, CD's and DVD disks. A.J. was all excited about his "find" and wanted to go to the apartment to disconnect and bring all the components back to the house. "That's fine, do you need help?" I questioned. "No, I don't think so," was the reply. "Leave the TV for the movers because it's heavy and takes two people to carry it. At least I needed help with it. And. there should be a box in the closet that is full of patch cables to hook things up as well as a couple of spools of speaker wire," I told him. I pinched him on the butt as we were going back up the stairs and was rewarded with a very passionate kiss. It was 2:30 and I reminded him that Doug and Tom's cocktail party was at 5:30 so we would all need time to clean up and dress. "Maybe I'd better wait until tomorrow afternoon," A.J. said. "We can take everything apart after we get home, but I really think we are pushing the time to transport everything and start setting it back up," I said. When we went back upstairs, Laura was just finishing with the kitchen items we had brought earlier. "I could really use a nap, so why don't you take me back to the motel, then call me about 4 o'clock and I'll bathe and dress for the party. I'd really like to take them a nice bottle of wine or a cordial as a thank-you for inviting me," she said. "We need to get something, also, so why don't we do that and have it with us when we pick you up shortly before 5:30?" A.J. asked. "That's fine with me. Whatever you want to get is fine," Laura said. After we dropped Laura off and A.J. made sure she got to her room, we stopped at a liquor store a mile west of our apartment. It was a huge place and had just about anything you could want. A.J. picked a bottle of Drambuie for Laura to take and we bought a bottle of Cointreau, thinking that almost everyone appreciated those two liqueurs. * * * * * It didn't take long to unplug all of the stereo and video components and wrap the power cords. The hookup cables were placed in the box with the extra ones and I added the plastic envelope of owner's manuals for each piece of equipment. We really had made a big dent in packing and moving some of the items already. There were pictures on the walls in all the rooms. A.J. and I stripped out of our work clothes and I put the Levis from the last three days in the washing machine. I hated to crowd the washer with the shirts and other colored items; they could wash a little later. It felt good to just sit down. Other than stopping for meals, we had been on the go all week and while we hadn't really been lifting anything heavy, we had walked a lot of steps carrying boxes and other things back and forth. We decided that a short nap would benefit us, also, and I got the timer out of the kitchen so we didn't oversleep. It was a good thing, too. A.J. called Laura at 4 o'clock as she had requested. That was good, as she had gone soundly asleep, too. I started the washing machine through a second cold-water rinse cycle just to make sure all the soap was out of them. That wouldn't have any effect on our hot water supply for showers because the 30-gallon tank in the apartment barely allowed two of us to shower. A.J. went first, so I knew my shower would have to be quick to get the benefit of whatever hot water was left. We debated about what to wear and finally decided on dress slacks and cloth sport shirts. I figured that some would probably be in shorts since it was a warm day, but we also didn't know if the party was an indoor/outdoor type of affair. Laura called at 5:15 to say that she was ready. A.J. put her on the speakerphone so we could discuss dinner plans, finally deciding on Abuelo's, an upscale Mexican restaurant. It was casual, yet festive. The food was good and the service was excellent. By the time we got to the motel to pick up Laura, it was just after 5:30. That would make it a good time to arrive for the cocktail party and we were able to park on the street in front of their house. Either everyone else was going to be fashionably late or they had walked. Tom greeted us at the door, then introduced A.J. and I, telling them we were new neighbors. Laura got a lot of attention, too, but I could tell that some of the men were a little uncomfortable at first with her presence. However, it was a well-behaved group of men and even outside her sphere, I didn't hear anything out of line like you hear at a lot of gay parties. I would check with Doug and Tom later, but assumed that most of these men were professional people. Laura did enjoy being "queen bee" and the men adored her, paying a lot of attention and talking with her. It was the first gay party she had been to and loved all the men. It also was interesting that Kendall Gilbert wasn't at the party. A.J. and I wondered exactly how close his friendship was with Doug and Tom. Their house was very nicely furnished. The ceilings in the first floor rooms were probably about 10-feet, and there were a lot of windows in each room, with a double set of French doors opening onto a brick terrace that was nicely shaded with trees and included a water garden and fountain. We met everyone during the course of the party, which lasted about an hour and a half. They were all friendly except for one couple. We later found out they were from Italy, visiting some other guests and didn't speak English very well. Thanking Doug and Tom, we left for the restaurant. "That was a really nice party and such nice men," Laura said. "I'm glad there weren't any men who were overtly gay," A.J. said. "Some of them can make me really uncomfortable." I agreed. "There were several men there whose parents were people I knew years ago," Laura told us. That told me that probably all of the guests were to-notch professional people from good families. We had a wonderful meal at Abuelo's. They were busy, but we were seated immediately and even in the "courtyard" which had a high ceiling, the noise level was low. We could easily visit without having to raise our voices. We discussed what we were going to try to accomplish the next day. I suggested that since it was Sunday, we might go to church and Laura agreed. "I've always thought Trinity was one of the prettiest churches in Tulsa," Laura said. "I haven't been there for years, so it will be nice to attend with you boys." We agreed to pick Laura up at our usual time of 8:30 to go to breakfast. Solemn High Mass was at 11 a.m. so we could go back to the apartment and either read the paper or pack some of the fragile things that needed to be transported. We were making good progress on getting the small items out of the way. The dinner was leisurely, recounting the week and planning for the next one. The service was always good at this restaurant and although it wasn't in our neighborhood, it was accessible with little problem. A.J. walked Laura to her room, making sure she was settled before coming back to the car to go on to our apartment. I had gotten in the front seat while they were going to the room. A.J. drove back to the house and parked in the lot. After we were inside the apartment, I remembered that I needed to dry the Levis I'd washed earlier, and start a load of the other colored clothes we'd worn the last few days. We stripped down to our boxers after pulling the living room drapes, then sat on the love seat to enjoy each other's company. The week had been so hectic with everything that was going on that we hadn't had a chance just to sit and relax with the other - sex not withstanding. "Would you like a liqueur?" A.J. asked. "Yeah, I would. I think some Disaronno would be great, and put an ice cube in it," I said. Since the barware had been packed and moved, he came back with two kitchen glasses. I had to laugh at the idea of using them, as they seemed so out of place for the little amount that was in them. "What's so funny?" he asked as he handed me the glass. "Just the big glasses for the small amount of liqueur that's in them," I said. "Oh, yeah. Well, this is all we have unless you want to drink out of the bottle," he giggled. "Not that desperate," I said. We sat so we could look at each other. I still had a hard time believing that this was all true and not some fantasy. We had certainly met under strange circumstances and our relationship had gotten started quickly. His grandmother, Laura, had A.J.'s best interest at heart and seemed to trust that he had found the person he wanted to be with, even though there was a 34 year difference in our ages. He was handsome beyond words, but didn't seem to be aware of the effect he had on people. And for someone having an MBA, seemed to be unaware of how much money his family had. He had told me the first night that he had always been attracted to older men and then in subsequent conversations I found out that he and his three sisters had been raised mostly by a woman hired to run their household while their parents traveled and played bridge and golf. A.J.'s grandmother had taken him under her wing, exposing him to the finer things of life and seeing to it that he was taught about history, the arts and life, itself. His sisters had dismissed Laura as an old "fuddy duddie" and didn't want anything to do with her. Their own children were being raised in loveless marriages and again, Laura had little access to them, so she lavished her love and money on A.J. and his new love, me. This far into our relationship, even though Laura had "adopted" me and provided me with money equal to what A.J. received, I still had not met A.J.'s parents even though I'd been told they knew he was gay. They were just too busy flitting around the world to pursue whatever seemed to strike their fancy at the moment. They had been in Europe when I first met A.J. and Laura and now were off on an African Safari, simply because some friends wanted to go. They probably had no idea as to what the trip really was about, what they were going to see and do and were blissfully unaware of anything outside their narrow little world. While his parents and sister's and their husbands had plenty of money of their own, it was Laura who controlled the family business and had two consultants who had invested money wisely so that she was very wealthy, although not flaunting it. She was into philanthropy in a big way, but it was done quietly and with great benefit to those groups on the receiving end. It had become obvious in the last few days she had spent with us that her contacts in the state went deep and a long way back as she knew a lot of people. Yet, except for always being dressed extremely well (even in her "work clothes") you were not aware she had money. She was in the process of rewriting her will and setting up a foundation, one that A.J. and I would control after her eventual death. She had given us money for a house and we had really lucked out in finding one that was perfect for us on the first day we looked. It was amazing how everything seemed to fall into place with the purchase and getting the place ready for occupancy by us. So, here we were, just a few short weeks after meeting. Our lives had taken a turn in a different direction and we were deeply in love and were ready to explore the world together, but it wasn't going to be a trip like his parents took. We both hoped that Laura would accompany us. I'm sure it will be our own version of "Auntie Mame" with two adult men instead of a nephew named Patrick. We had been sitting on the love seat, each lost in our thoughts, but touching each other. enjoying the silent presence of the other. Without a word, we looked at each other, stood and went to the bedroom. Our passions explored the other to the fullest extent this night. Sleep overtook us after we were through making love, because we woke up the next morning in our usual sleep position. and glued together. * * * * * (to be continued) * * * * * Author's Note: I would appreciate your comments, criticism, suggestions, and anything else that you would care to say.
